YOU pay more than you get
February 22, 2016

GREAT buying except the return part... when they give you a store credit!
Selling is the worst thing i did
They took $14 shipping and modeling cost
Then accepted only 4 items ont of 36
ALTHOUGH 12 of the item i sent were for my baby and never used
THEN they force you to pay an other $5 to get your items back... ugghhhhhh
And if you sell somthing they tock $1,5 dollar +30% as selling fees

The first trade I initiated was not accepted by the other party and as a result, my item was put on hold for several days while Swap.com "reviewed" it. I asked Swap.com why my item was on hold and received a vague, nonsensical reply. My next trade was initiated by Swap.com (a three-way trade) where I was to get a "like new" hardcover from one person in exchange for my mailing a "like new" hardcover to another person. I accepted. When I got this supposed "like new" book, I knew I had been scammed. The book was in terrible shape - loose binding, yellowed pages, had obviously been wet at some point. I fired off an email to Swap.com to let them know I was very unhappy and got a reply that suggested my expectations were too high! The person who sent me the book had pretty much the same attitude. In addition, if you reject too many trades (sorry, I am not going to trade my Nintendo DS game for a well-worn paperback), Swap.com will send you an email telling you to "play fair". Needless to say, I am now in search for a better trading site.

THIS SITE IS A COMPLETE RIP OFF! DO NOT SEND IN YOUR STUFF. ONCE YOU SELL SOMETHING THEY TAKE OUT "INBOUND" SERVICE FEES AND BASICALLY TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY FROM ITEMS YOU SELL. YOU NEVER GET A FULL PAYOUT. YOU LITERALLY MAKE CHANGE, FOR GREAT STUFF YOU HAVE SENT IN. I HAVE SENT IN BEAUTIFUL KIDS CLOTHES, WOMENS CLOTHES AND THE MINUTE YOU SELL SOMETHING THEY SAY YOU OWE THEM FEES. DONATE YOUR STUFF OR HAVE A YARD SALE, YOU WILL MAKE MORE MONEY. THEY ARE LIAIRS AND BASICALLY STEAL YOUR STUFF!

Terrible for sellers!
October 3, 2017

Not upholding their agreement on processing time for items plus a very poor change in policies, has led to an awful experience selling on Swap. After a big move and closet clean-out, I had lots of men's, kids', and women's items to sell. I carefully compared Swap with Thred Up and a local consignment store, and Swap seemed to be the best option, based on the fact you could set your own prices and the profit percentage for each sale. In the seller agreement I signed when sending in my box they warned me that their incoming volume was high so "it may take up to 60 days to process." Since I was sending in my box of warm weather clothes at the beginning of June, I was bummed it would take this long, but thought it would be ok since we'd still have the hot months of August and September. Well it didn't get processed for 75 days, so unsurprisingly, not much has sold. Also, when I sent it my items, there was still the option to price your own. That also changed, and resulted in Swap selling a pair of VGUC J. Crew jeans for about $10 with me making $4.50 off the sale. Ridiculous. And for my kids' items I've made an average of $2 an item... not worth it. Find somewhere else to consign!

I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH swap.com FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I BOUGHT ALOT OF TOYS FOR THE TODDLERS IN MY FAMILY. ALL LOOK BRAND NEW AND I CAN SAY THE SAME FOR KIDS CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES. I DON'T SHOP RETAIL FIRST ANYMORE AS KIDS GROW SO FAST IT DOES NOT PAY SO THIS CONSIGNMENT IS A GREAT ANSWER TO FAMILIES ON A BUDGET. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT. IS THE BEST I EVER DEALT WITH. NO AUTOMATED SYSTEM... A REAL PERSON ANSWERS THE PHONE! I LOVE THIS COMPANY! Carolann Aufiero

I always buy good condition or new items. I haven't been disappointed yet. I am always pleased and amazed at the quality of their clothes. I buy coats, tops, and hoodies quite often. Love them all.

Before the addition of Swap Market (where you can trade anything), this site was phenomenal. Items had to be in good condition, frequently came with a good description, and trades had to be approved by all parties. I made well over 500 trades and was only burned twice, both times prior to the advent of SafeSwap (if a book doesn't arrive the trader is charged the cost of sending you a new book from Amazon). Sending and item automatically removed it from your Have List and receiving an item automatically removed it from your Want List.

The addition of the Swap Market messed everything up for those of us only wishing to trade media (books, cds, dvds and video games). The new system does not have the same streamlined style of trade, it does not automatically manage your Have and Want Lists, it does not protect you from slimy traders (no more SafeSwap).

You CAN avoid the Swap Market and stay with Swap Media BUT unless you were an existing Swap.com member who was really paying attention you probably don't know this and if you are a new member you probably don't even know there is a separate site for media trades only. (Typing Swap.com in your url bar takes you straight to the Market; you have to know to type Swap.com/media to get to the original site). Thus, there are hardly any traders left to trade with on the media site. I've been a member for over 3 years and had a trade every couple of days, since the addition of the market I've had maybe 1 trade.

I'm looking for a better trade site, one that is as solid as Swap.com used to be. I would suggest you keep looking too.

I have bought many items from swap and have found their condition ratings to be accurate. They are a bit overpriced, but if you watch for sales, you can get great deals. Returns, however, are a bit sketchy. I returned several items because I didn't like the fit and received an email stating I had a credit on my account. I signed in and it never showed. I emailed and received a response from Patrick telling me that i had two accounts and they were having issues with people with multiple accounts and they are working to resolve the problem. He said that my refund had been added back to my OTHER account and I couldnt get access to it until the problem was fixed. Ummm... really? So I had to email again and ask Patrick if the accounts could be merged. (Really. He didnt think of that on his own). They merged the accounts and I did receive my refund after much hassle.

I have since returned another item and received another email stating that I have a refund. AGAIN, when I sign into my account, I cant see it. I emailed the company three days ago and have received no response.::: sigh::: I think Im going to switch to ThredUp and avoid the hassle with Swap.com...

A total disaster
October 20, 2021

I've spent thousands with this site over the past 3 years. I've had a few issues, but nothing that wasn't resolved quickly. The past few weeks however, I feel I may never buy from them again. I placed 3 orders on 09/20:

Order 1: Everything but 1 item shipped in 1 week. That item was cancelled because they were out of stock.

Order 2:1 item was not new with tags as described. Another came damaged. Shipped after 1 week.

Order 3: Took 3 weeks to ship 5/8 items only after I threatened a chargeback. Had to resort to that because multiple social media posts and emails went ignored. 1 item was not new as described. The other 3 items never shipped even a month later. Contacted customer service, they said I should just go on the site, and open a return for the 4 items. I can't because it was a guest checkout. No reply in a few days.

It took 2-3 weeks for a refund for 2 of the items. Filed a complaint with the BBB because I can't get them to send me the items, or a return slip for 1 item. Their excuse is Covid, and a big spike in sales. You've had 18 months to figure this out like every other company.
