Not sure what happened to Swap
May 3, 2023

I have been ordering from Swap for years. I've spent thousands on the website. Years ago, orders were shipped fast (in less than 5 days), and quality control was mostly good. A few years ago something changed (this was pre-Covid). Orders taking weeks to ship out, missing items, half of entire orders being damaged. I still continued ordering, but took advantage of their return policy for items that were not as described. I also noticed that customer service would take days to get back to you.

Beginning of April 2023, Swap transitioned to a new website with no notice to customers. The old website was removed without any communication. Everyone's order history, favorites, site credits, everything - gone. They didn't bother to announce this to anyone. They simply released the new website and said 'make a new account, everything on the old site is gone though, sorry.' This website was a horrible rollout. Half the items don't have photos, I have to skim through pages of 'sold' items, etc. What was also annoying was the fact that I had placed an order on the old website, and when the new one was released, I saw the items I had purchased listed for sale again. Again, this was with no communication to me on what would happen to my old order (that I can no longer access because the old website was deleted).

Despite this horribly unprofessional rollout of a broken site, against my better judgement, I used a welcome code to place a new order. Since then, I've been waiting a month for my order. I've been waiting 3 weeks for an email response to a simple inquiry about my order. I randomly received my order from the old website (a month later!) with no communication. I have since reached out to Swap on social media about the slow ship times and slow customer service and they simply responded that it takes time to pack orders. If it takes 30 days to pack orders, say so on your website, and stop running sales since you cannot handle the order volume.

I still have not received any response to my customer service email inquiries. They are having widespread issues shipping and providing customer service, yet they won't even send a mass communication explaining the issues. They just keep stringing people along, keeping their money, and giving them silence in return.

I would recommend everyone stay away from Swap.com. They are unresponsive, uncommunicative, and unable to ship orders in an acceptable time frame. Your only hope will be an eventual chargeback.

ThredUp is much better! Swap.com just doesn't know what they're doing.
August 7, 2022

Swap.com seems to be trying to imitate ThredUp, but they aren't doing a very good job. Their website is just not very well-designed, nor is their return policy as great as they advertise. I've also noticed a lot of reviews from others stating that they never got their merchandise at all. I did receive some merchandise, and some of it was even what I ordered. Other items were several sizes off from what I ordered and had to be returned.

I had placed an order containing 14 pieces, and a significant number of them needed to be returned. Some items were a completely different size than was advertised, and many of the items that were labelled the correct size actually ran much larger than expected, despite what it said on the tags. When I returned the items that didn't fit, I included a note with each item explaining what was wrong with it. They gave me a partial refund, but strangely for most of the items they just gave me store credit. I am guessing I got cash for the items that weren't the size they were supposed to be and store credit for the items that just didn't run true to size.

Given that I had to return so many items, I didn't really want to do business with them again, but I couldn't just throw away nearly $60 worth of store credit, so I had to place another order just to get my money's worth. This second order was eventually delivered, but some of the garments were stained or they were pilling badly, despite the misleading descriptions on the item pages. I guess I'll use them to wear when I'm painting or something. This company is truly one of the worst I've ever done business with.

Also, their website is very poorly designed. They have filters to narrow your search down, but no page numbers, so for instance, say you only want to look at shorts in your size, so you filter accordingly. First of all, the category for shorts is combined with skirts for heaven knows what reason, so you'll have to scroll through a LOT of things you aren't interested in. You may get 10,000 skirts and pairs of shorts, all on one page. It's terribly time-consuming.

Worse, if you click on an item to get more information, and then you select "Back" to return to your search, that is not what you'll get. You will be taken to the page you were on BEFORE you selected all of the filters. In other words, you have to start from scratch, re-enter the filter information, and scroll past all of the items you already looked at just to find your place again. It is unbelievably frustrating. On ThredUp, there are page numbers, so you can just go back to the last page you were looking at. I just don't have time to keep looking at the same items over and over.

ThredUp also has a much more reasonable return policy than Swap. As a matter of fact, I had a ThredUp order with several items that were not in the condition advertised. Most of the items, I chose to keep anyway, as some items could be repaired, but I wanted to let them know about the issues, so I wrote to them. Despite the fact that I had decided to keep the items and fix them myself, ThredUp still gave me a partial refund just to make sure they didn't lose me as a customer. Not only that, but I also received friendly personal communication via email from an actual person at ThredUp. That is the way to run a business. I had to email Swap.com just to get a response about the status of my return.

Frankly, I'll be amazed if Swap is in business long if they don't address the many problems with their website and their customer service practices. I will probably stick with ThredUp from now on, and I would urge others to do the same. Trust me, you don't want the aggravation of dealing with Swap if their practices don't change.

Tip for consumers:

ThredUp.com is the same type of website, but is executed SO much better. I cannot recommend Swap.com when ThredUp does the same thing, but better.

Shadiest Site Online
July 20, 2021

Two terrible experiences within 2 months. The 1st time I ordered $150+ of merchandise on 06-01-21.It took 8 days to process the order after I read I'd receive the order in 4-6 days. I contacted CS several times to ask when my order would ship but never received an answer. Finally, I cancelled the entire order and asked for a refund yet, once I did swap.com informed me they shipped my order 2 days before & a simple cancellation & credit back to my CC wasn't possible. There were 3 items in that order that was needed for a specific date (which had passed) that should have been here in plenty of time according to their site shipping information. (Funny they got their money from my CC within 20 mins. Of me placing my order though!)
I DO NOT KNOW WHY I THOUGHT THEY DESERVED A SECOND CHANCE & ORDERED AGAIN, YET I DID. July11,2021 I placed a $79 order. Several NWT (New With Tags) items were among them. One was a pair of Nike Toddler Shoes. To my surprise I received and opened my package within 5 days of ordering. The Nike Shoes were NOT "New with Tags' although I paid a NWT Price. The bottom soles are also dirty proving they've been worn. I immediately sent a message through site help to them with photos of their advertisement of shoes, my receipt stating "NWT" and the item I received. That was Saturday morning and I have received no return message, email, call or credit to my CC or Bank Acct. Yet. I sent a 2nd message this morning and tried to call. Nothing. I will be contacting the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, my Credit Card Co. And any/all agencies who offer assistance in the misrepresentation and fraud department tomorrow along with Law Enforcement & my Attorney. Every Online Review Blog I can post on will be hit before midnight. This simply won't stand. Photos attached.

Tip for consumers:

DON’T!!!

I still love them
July 9, 2018

Sadly its true, Swap isnt and hasnt been accepting inbounds for what seems like months, well actually it has been months two or three at least. Im thinking these guys got too big too fast and maybe now are getting the business in a way that benefits everyone? I read somewhere (while frantically trying to find out if this not excepting inbounds was directed at only me) that 200 + people got fired and blah blah blah, but seems like it was all for the good of the company, Ive emailed them and I thought it was very nice that they got back to me so quickly and assured me it wasnt just me that couldnt send items in, I really was at the beginning for at least a month thinking that I wasnt allowed to send anything in because maybe one of my boxes or too many off my boxes had things in it they wouldnt take, but thank goodness they assured me that wasnt the case. They certainly didnt explain why or what was happening, but why would they its really none of my business. I was quite surprised when I looked at my account last week that I had a bunch of new items that they just took in which wouldve been from boxes I sent out in April, better late then never, and really I think everyone should just chillax and stop bashing these poor guys they obviously had a internal problem and are trying to best work it out with the least disruption as possible, Im hoping that soon theyll be accepting inbounds, but until then I guess the 6 packed boxes and the many more that are ready to be filled ( yes I have a shopping problem) will have to wait patiently in the garage until I get the oh so happy news that SWAP IS READY FOR INBOUNDS! Until then I wish them the best

THEY FINALLY LISTED IT - NOW I REGRET IT MORE!
January 26, 2018

Seriously - if you havent seen my rants before about my HUGE mistake of sending clothes to Swap.com to consign with them - then here is one more - sent items in SEPTEMBER - Yes - 4 months ago - they just were finally listed last week on their site for sale - THEY PRICE THEM - I just sold one item - a BRAND NEW Boys Long-Sleeve Shirt (name brand) with Tags attached (they priced it at $7.20!) - and guess how much I earned? $1.22 - Yep a lousy dollar - and it cost me $10 to send the box to them! I will NEVER again use this site - silly me for falling for it - but please don't fall for it too! #SwapSux #donteverusetheirservices

Going Downhill Pretty Quickly
December 2, 2017

Its actually almost unbelievable how bad they have gotten in such a short amount of time.

To start this review, I have to tell you a little bit about myself. I have been selling online as my main source of income for over 10 years. About 97 percent of my sales are and have been clothing, and of that 99 percent of my inventory is new with tag items. So I'm not new to this. About two years ago, I loved the idea of Swap when I first found out about it. It was basically passive income because I have a large inventory of clothing and packing up three boxes a month and shipping them was basically no extra work for me. I was okay with their cut as well. Alternatively, I loved shopping on Swap as well. Probably too much.

Almost immediately I did take not of some shady and unprofessional things that Swap did. Some of the clothing I sent in was definitely wrongly rejected. I know what I'm doing, probably more so than the employee going through my boxes. I always just donated the rejected clothes, because due to the process of keeping track of my inventory, it was much easier to just donate the items they rejected. I was never over 4 or 5 percent rejected, so it really wasn't much of a loss. I did however keep track of what happened to what items. I keep a pretty detailed spreadsheet of what was listed and what was rejected. Because, when Swap rejects your items, they literally take a photo of them crumpled up in a ball. Its very unprofessional and almost like they don't want you to be able to figure out what they are claiming is rejected. Very shady, and more on this later. Like I said, I know I accepted this when I continued to use the service. And like I said it wasn't that much of a loss, so I just added into the cost of doing easy business with them.

At the same time, my Swap buying and trading was also at an all time high. And very rarely did I get anything that I would consider unacceptable. There was the occasional mis-listed size, but that was always quickly and easily resolved by Swap in the past.

Then in about, August of this year, Swap basically went insane. The queue to process boxes sent in was over three months long. Then they dropped all these new absolutely ridiculous terms, with no advanced warning, and almost no grandfathering in. Considering they still had a lot of people's items, still waiting to be listed for months, that people sent in before the change in terms is in my opinion completely inexcusable.

The biggest blows to the sellers in the new terms were:

1. They completely changed how much you make, reducing it by a very, very large amount. Before the change, if you sold something for eight dollars, you would make $4.10 After the change that same eight dollar item would only make you $1.60. In all fairness to Swap, they did not apply this to items sent in before the change. Yes, if something sells for less than four dollars, you make zero. ZERO. Who there thought this was a good idea to make a pay a person ZERO dollars? Why would anyone send in anything? Sending items to Swap is sometimes quite literally just taking the most complicated path to give your stuff away.

2. Swap decided that it would be a good idea to price all items sent in. This was NOT grandfathered in and began immediately. This was probably their worst decision. Swap cannot keep up with boxes sent to them. So all the items, once processed sit in another queue for pricing. So they are basically failing at everything they are promising to do. For example I have things I sent them, that took 94 days to even get to the boxes. I did request most of this back, but left some there just for a test so I could see how things go. Most of them are still waiting to be priced. They are on day 81.So its been almost half a year that they have been working on my stuff. And yes, you can have it sent back, but I think I'm trying to get the high score. The stuff they did price is messed up. Some stuff is so underpriced that it sells before you get a chance to even see it. Some stuff is so overpriced. For example I have a pair of cheap flats from a Mart store. They are new and I think they even say 12.98 on the price tag. They listed them for $24.00.

3. They instated a lot of new fees. Fees for how heavy your box is. Fees for how many of your items are rejected, which is VERY inconsistent.

It feels like they are punishing us for their horrible business ideas.

Oh, and the thing that made me want to write this review, and what I said more about that later, earlier in this review. I know for a fact that they do sell their donated rejects. I've always been curious about this so a couple times I've searched for things that they rejected when I sent it in. I am almost sure I saw many of the things I looked for. I can't be a hundred percent sure, but I sell a lot of vintage new with tags, so I am pretty positive they were my rejects based on my spreadsheets of what I sent in and the items. They don't list them right away, because they can't keep up with anything. But check for stuff that you got rejected about 4-8 months ago. I bet you'll find some too. And they wanna CHARGE you for rejects. Can't you just steal it instead of people paying you to take their stuff.

While they were backed up and made the changes to the terms, they also offered to buy peoples boxes. The amount they offered, I can't even believe. They should be ashamed. Along with this you also have the option all the time to sell your stuff to Swap. They do offer you so little. Oh, new 3 piece Carter's outfit, best Swap can do is 84 cents. Better than giving it away, I suppose. They do not realize that the sellers are also buyers. They really blatantly go against everything they say they stand for. Saving the Earth and recycling clothing. What does that matter when you wrap up two million articles of clothing in individual plastic bags? They seem to have lost sight of what was the good part of using Swap.

Oh, and buying also has gone way downhill. It's almost hilariously bad. My last order took ten days to ship. It contained six items. Something was wrong with every item except one.
1. Ordered XL pants, pants were actually medium (labelled).
2. One adult hoodie was actually a completely different item
3. Missing a shirt
4. XL tunic type shirt was actually a size 4 (labelled as well).
5. Another hoodie that I take credit for. It looked plain but the picture didn't show the back. The back was completely covered in really cheap trashy rhinestones in the shape of a cross with a bunch of obnoxious writing on it.
6. The only item that was spot on - a really nice dress.

I think that's about all. Well for me. There are many, many more horror stories out there.
