We rented at Southampton, UK for July 12-14.2022. Within a couple of hours, we were broken down on the side of a country road because the car simply died. The engine apparently failed and this was a known issue for a Kia model we rented. (I had rented a Peugeot or similar). After 3 hours, Sixt sent a taxi to take me back to the airport to pick up another rental. Another Kia. This time, the left rear tire blew out on M27 on our way to LHR to catch a flight back to the USA. Not only did they not reimburse me for the taxi, they tried to charge me for the full rental, prepaid gas that I couldn't use because of the breakdown, an "upgrade" charge THEN sent me a bill for the blown out tire. Luckily, my credit card company reversed the billing because after many phone calls and emails, Sixt still wanted to charge me for the full rental plus the cost of the tire. I would never recommend Sixt to anyone.

OVERCHARGED
August 30, 2022

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT! They over charge then keep you in circles while trying to fix the issues. Still not fixed. I was charged from Priceline and then from SIXT. They charged me for multiple insurances? WTF. I signed up for only 1.
Save yourself time, money, and headache and rent somewhere else.

I had rented my rental cars via Orbitz (Enterprise Rental, Hertz, Alamo) for many years now and have had great experience! I recently gave Sixt Rental a try via Orbitz but didn't realize I would be penalized for weeks in advanced cancellations! Orbitz Customer Service tried to contact Sixt and so did I but no one would return any email response. I tried calling Sixt to ask for a refund directly as I'm new with them but no phone service available from them at all! Sixt Rental is a ripoff, terrible rental policy and no customer service at all! I'm disappointed to see Orbitz is conducting business with Sixt. I would not recommend renting from Sixt!

I rented a car that was canceled due to covid after months I finally got a voucher for the rental unfortunately the wedding was not rescheduled within the timeframe the voucher was good for. We finally traveled to another city Sixt has cars (there are few in the US). Our flight was delayed and we arrived at the rental counter at 7:05 they closed at 7:00. We called their customer service number thinking there would be someone at the return area and we would be able to get a car. We were told we would have to come back the next day to get a car. We were unable to spend the night at the airport so I canceled the reservation. I thought they would deduct a day of the rental since we didn't get a car. WRONG! They canceled the entire voucher! -$800+ and no car - TOO BAD! No refunds no new voucher! They must have made a lot of money due to COVID! I will never rent from this company and will tell all my personal and business associates about this experience

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT
January 18, 2022

I rented a car for a long weekend in Tampa for a business conference. I barely drove the car and returned it in perfect condition. I later recieved an email stating I returned the car damaged. I filled out the questionaire stating there was no damage and this was a mistake. 3 months later I recieved an email with multiple attachments. One was a quote from an appraising company, one was pictures of the damage and one was my contract with an invoice looking for a payment of over $700. After reviewing I saw no damage at all to the car in the pictures and I called. They basically said there was damage and someone will call me back. Now it is a game of phone tag to get someone on the phone. I am fighting this. I wish I had read the reviews before I rented from these theives.

We rented the car at Faro airport and returned to the Sixt office in Lisbon. Thanks to the reviews I read here, we took lots of pictures and videos of car condition. The first car we refused as it had more knicks on front and side glass than I could possibly count. The second one had 24! Described damages, but we had to take it, as time was pressing us.
Upon return, the clerk assured us that everything was fine and showed something on the screen to confirm that. It had the wrong e-mail address for me, so I had to correct it. 1 week later, my credit card was charged 50 Euros for...fuel refill! We refilled the car 10km from the office, so the charge was a pure extortion. I initiated the chargeback with my credit card company and expect the 50 Euros refund in the near future.
I'll share my experience on every review site I can find and will make a formal complaint with EU Rental Company regulators at ECRCS (Google the url)
Good luck, fellow travelers!

I will never use again - I had in the past and wasn't impressed but not ripped off - then I was, ripped off that is. They were unresponsive and rude - hard to believe a Dutchman would be rude to a Canadian. But there it is - The manager did nothing for me and then got upset and personal when I involved American Express to resolve the issue - and they were not able to. It might have been a coincidence that my travel AMEX card was then compromised but I cannot doubt the conspiracy theory when that card is so seldom used. Buyer/Renter beware - use someone else.

Making lemonade
May 3, 2023

My terrible experience with DoYouSpain.com opened the door to the opposite experience with Sixt Rental Cars. After being refused a rental by DoYouSpain's partner, Goldcar, I went to the adjacent window at the Tenerife airport. The staff at Sixt Rental Cars was friendly and warm and rented me a car with no problem. There's a Sixt Rental Cars near my Porto, Portugal home. I have rented cars from them three times, with the same friendly, thorough, polite, professional interaction and clean cars in impeccable condition. I highly recommend Sixt Rental Cars.

No Customer Service
January 28, 2021

I rented a car and was offered an upgrade and passed on the offer. I was billed for the upgrade even though I did not take the SUV. I was told no additional charges to my full paid on the Sixt website booking and all other charges would be removed. The deposit was removed but not the upgrade error. I immediately emailed customer service of the error and recieved no response. 30 days later I disputed the charge on my credit card. Guess what I got notified I can no longer rent from Sixt. Wow you think I care. To improve things now 60 days after the rental they are emailing me harrasing me.
Have fun with your next rental.
The site ask for proof of the situation but I do not wish to publish my receipt.

AVOID THIS FIRM
July 25, 2022

This firm is great if you want to pay outrageous prices for every part of your rental. Extortionate prices for gas, etc. Not a good rental company, find someone else!

Very dishonest company
November 22, 2022

I rent a car in airport in Los Angeles. They charge additional fees, which were not included in their initial offer. This company is dishonest and I recommend to avoid them, everywhere in the world. They don't answer for complaints. I made reservation in September, paid 1004$ and when I picked up a car in October, they gave me to sign agreement and invoice for 1274$. During pickuping car I didn't know about it but next day I was very suprised seeing on ma credit card account additional 270$ less. They charge credit card very high commissions for highways and similar payments. It was my mistake to believe them and signing agreement late evening and after many hours of flight. I had another „good" option not to rent car from Sixt and look for another honest rental in the middle of the night or spend night at the airport. I feel robbed and cheated. At first sight they make a good impression and in next step catch you and get out of money. This is their true business model and don't be deluded by „At Sixt customer satisfaction is our ultimate goal. This is why we are always available at your convenience for any questions or concerns you may have."
I warn everybody not to rent anything from them.

Sixt in Maui scams customers
October 26, 2022

I booked a Sixt Rental Car via Expedia on our trip to Maui. I thought it was a pretty good deal at just over $400 for 5 days. Boy was I wrong! When we arrived at Sixt, we were on 2 hours of sleep after a 6 hour plane ride (I can't sleep on airplanes). We were so tired that when the guy handed us the key and pointed out the car we didn't even question when the keys he gave us opened the car 2 cars away from the one he told me was mine. They also didn't inspect the outgoing car. We didn't buy their insurance as we have our own. When we got the car, it was all dented up. That should have given me a clue, but again I was nearly incoherent from lack of sleep. We had a wonderful trip on Maui and did not get into any accidents, so when we returned the car we were shocked to see the Sixt employee point out a "new" dent. I was gobsmacked! I told them that we did not hit anything. But we had to catch our flight and left. I received an email about the "incident." Of course, I had no recourse because it was my word against theirs. Later I got an email saying that we owe $425.75 for repairs but in the small print it said that they could not guarantee the car would be repaired and that this might not be the "final payment." I know that the car was not damaged while we had it. And it is a costly lesson. ALWAYS take detailed photos of the car when you rent it so you have proof later. And NEVER use Sixt Rent a Car.

I do not recommend renting a car from this agency. While rates, vehicle inventory, and other factors may seem attractive, the problems will occur upon vehicle turn-in/checkout. Don't be surprised if they try to hit you up for additional bogus charges. That's what happened during my most recent rental where I picked up the vehicle at the Tampa location and returned it at the Orlando location. The vehicle I rented already had several small dents and scratches that were noted and observed. I returned the vehicle exactly in the same condition that it was received and have several traveling partners that will attest to this. However, upon vehicle return, the Sixt agent had me sign a small handheld device with only the signature portion exposed. I didn't scroll through the entire document and she apparently slipped in a comment that it was returned with an additional 5-10 cm (1.9-3.9 inch) scratch. Note that she never told me about any additional scratches at that time or that the comment was added to the return document. I only learned of this a few weeks later when they tried to get me to pay an additional $500 for "new damage". I am fighting this because it is completely bogus. I have also asked them to find a more reputable method for improving their bottom line. Obviously, I will stay away from any future car rentals from Sixt. If I had to use this company again, I will take a video tape of the vehicle they assign me to precisely record every square inch of the vehicle condition before leaving the lot.

My husband & I rented from this company for the 1st time & will be our last. While on vacation in Washington DC, as we return home we received a email saying there was damage to the rental and we owe over $500 in damages, here is my issue the person that handed us the keys never did a off on the rental, advised us there hours of operation, & that we could drop the rental off & leave the keys in a drop box. As we did once we return the rental, we didn't see any damages. Upon arriving home we received a letter for damages, here is my issue I went on BBB & this company has over 1065 complaints on this same matter & issue, so this leave me to believe I'm not the only one that has a issue with this company I wouldn't advise anyone to rent from this company. Also I suggest you file a complaint on the Better Business Bureau the more complaints, the better chance we have in this place being investigated.

I rented a car from Sixt for a 26 day trip through the southwest US. I opted for the pre-paid price for its obvious lower cost. Unfortunately, I had a medical issue half-way through the trip and had to return home. I was assuming that I'd receive a credit for the unused portion of the rental. The Sixt agent at the Phoenix airport informed me that there are no refunds on pre-paid rentals. He did say that i could try to get some amount back by calling the customer service group and pleading my case. I opened a request through Sixt customer service but to no avail. And then I noticed a $3.37 unknown charge from SIxt on my Visa statement! Salt in the wound. Sixt finally removed this charge after 30 minutes on hold. There is a section in the 'fine print' contract that states this 'no refund on pre-paid rentals' policy. My fault for not reading the multiple pages of fine print. So this is a warning to any Sixt car or truck renters: If you opt for the lower cost pre-paid option, you will not see any refund if you return the vehicle early. My 'loss' was in excess of $600. Caveat emptor.

I have rented from Sixt a few times and after this last one, that will be my last forever. In concept they are great and have never and nicer cars to choose from. In practicality, I've been charged for damage I didn't commit by them, I've been billed for a rental "reservation" which I cancelled less than 24 hours after making due to a positive COVID exposure, they've duplicate charged me, they charged me for fuel when I have a receipt which proves I filled the tank, and then to top it all off, then I turned unauthorized charges by them into my AMEX as fraud, they turned around and hounded me and even turned me into collections for these bogus charges. Run, run far far away. Rent with Turo, Budget, National, Enterprise, Avis, Hertz, hell anyone else, just don't rent from Sixt.
