Ever since I made a Sittercity account my references and I have been harrased by scammers. I get three out of state calls a day and so many scam messages. When I had a Care.com account years ago I lived in NYC so it was a lot easier to find well off families to watch their children. Now I live elsewhere and the only time I finally thought I found a family the mother wanted to meet me at a strange address, wouldn't speak to me on the phone, or text me. Obviously that is very sketchy. Now my references are very annoyed that they are being harrased. When I spoke to care.com about it they said there was nothing they could do to help. Also, the site wants money from you so you can have a more in detail background check. That is a way to get someone to pay unnescary money, most felonies are available on the internet for the world to see, unless the sitter hired a million dollar lawyer to hide it from the mad majority to see. Yet, what you are convicted of will not leave. I'm very dissapointed in the entire website, as well as care.com. I understand that they're are good families and sitters on both, but the amount of texts and phone calls I get from scammers is driving me bonkers. I would never have a in detail background check ever on that site, even having a photo of myself on there makes me nervous.

On 7/15/2019 SitterCity closed my account for absolutely NO reason! I paid for a 6 month membership. I was a member in good standing for 2 months.

I, Steve, and my wife Skirma opened the account under her name. The picture on the account was a picture of she and I. We do not have any children. I was seeking a local person to pet sit 2 black labs for me on weekends. I contacted a few people who were listed as "baby sitters", in the hopes that they would also be open to pet sitting as well. I pay top dollar, and am honest and fair. "Pet sitting" is a valid, listed job category on SitterCity. Additionally, MANY people seeking employment on SitterCity list themselves as seeking one job, but are open to doing other jobs as well!

My account was closed with NO reason, NO justification, and NO explanation.

When people spend their time to open an account, PAY them for their service, and seek to employ someone in good faith, there is NO justification for them to arbitrarily close the account.

Do all that you can to avoid this service. They are HORRIBLE. And when you call to try to get an explanation as to why they closed your account, the representatives become unprofessional, defensive, dismissive, and openly hostile.

AVOID SITTERCITY AT ALL COSTS.

- Activity appears similar to common scams
- Suspected of unacceptable behavior

Fraud & scam
October 26, 2018

I usually never like to write reviews but due to my experience i think its important to do so to alert those who are baby sitters and use this site. There are bad people in this world trying to do harm by making us feel bad for their situations making us think they are desperate to find baby sitter whiling to pay any number of money you give them to create any schedule you want. DO NOT & i repeat DO NOT give your home address do not accept any pays in advance. These people try send u checks in advance and sometimes may send you a lot more money tgan they promissed as soon as you deposit your check they have access to your accounts and you have to pay the bank because they are fake checks. I spoke to a police officer made a report about my situation that involved them wanting me to work regardless that i had a 2 month lld son they said bring him along that they wanted to meet, i needed to do errands for them are also signs of not just fraud but possible sex and human traffiking. Please be careful to those who are females young nanys mostly be alert to whom you speak through these job sites and pay attention to the signs. I caught my situation on time thanks to my husband getting a bad feeling and stopping me from depositing the check but for other people it might be too late, make sure you dont put your family or yourself at risk.

Stay far away
May 1, 2019

I signed up for services from sittercity.com. After spending almost $150 on membership fees alone without having any success using their site, I downgraded my membership. I reached out to them when I was billed another $70 just for membership services to notify them of the error since I had already downgraded. They neglected the entire issue but instead stated that their policy mentions that there are no refunds. Not only that, but I am unable to remove my card information. Also, at the end of the response, Stephanie B. Proceeds to tell me that she will be closing my support ticket. So basically they are free to continue to charge my card and contacting them through support is useless.

I have been going back and forth with them constantly repeating my issue through the complaint system with the Better Business Bureau. They have actually acknowledged the entire conversation with their support team, but then proceeds to tell me that this is the first time I have contacted them... come on now pick a side. It can't be both. They continue to insist that they have no record of any prior downgrade... which I have now done TWICE, and also now that they have billed me for another 3 months, they can delete my account but the 3 months that they have billed me for will still not be refunded. What in the world is really going on here. Not to mention whomever I am speaking to from their department seems to not care about the issue at hand and be snobby with their responses. Very unprofessional. Still at this point, I'm out every penny I have been charged and their bright idea for a solution is to delete my account and keep ALL my money even though they have charged me for another 3 months. Someone over there isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. That's the BEST solution they have come up with. No my dear, that won't cut it.

Beware! Stay away.
March 4, 2019

Dishonest, rude and incompetent customer service. I believe they are scamming families. I signed up and within the first couple hours I found an awesome family and we exchanging messages via their site. Unfortunately, we didn't get to exchange normal contact info before the site kicked me off with no warning and no explanation. When I contacted them they told me I was permanently kicked off the site. When I asked for an explanation they wouldn't give me one. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the lady told me no, and that she was deleting our conversations and that was that. I was offered nothing. Just a complete joke and waste of time. Now I feel like they have left me in the dark and the family I was communicating with no answers either and it just looks like I'm totally unreliable. Unbelievable. The longer they keep families on there the more money they make. I recommend using a different site. Don't waste your time and reputation on a lowsey, unprofessional and ethically horrible site.

Misleading
May 5, 2022

This is my experience. I hope yours is different. When I researched online I happened upon SitterCity. I was excited to sign up and looking forward to having someone reliable babysit my 5-year-old son. There were a number of sitters with 4 or 5 out of 5 stars. I signed up and commenced to reaching out to them. Every single one replied to my message letting me know they were already working with other families. Those that reached out to me after this had no stars and no reviews. I contacted SitterCity to request a refund as the site, I feel, entices parents with pictures of sitters with high reviews but, when contacted, no availability. I do not feel comfortable allowing someone into my home to watch my child without others sharing their experience with them. One way to help parents is to add a tab so that if the sitter is already committed to another family this will be known before even reaching out to them. When I reached out to SitterCity she said since I had contacted the sitters I could not receive a refund. How would I know they were unavailable unless I contacted them? The representative also said background checks are available for all since I was concerned about those with no reviews entering my home and caring for my child. There are 600 people where I work. All of us had to pass a background check, but over the years a number of them have been terminated for stealing, fighting, etc. Since I was told a refund is not possible, I will consider this a $156 donation to SitterCity. Take good care and always be cautious.
P.S. The site is asking for a proof of purchase, but my receipt is being rejected because it is not JPEG, etc.

Hi Shana!

We're sorry to hear that you didn't successfully find the right caregiver for your family. Because Sittercity is simply an online meeting venue for families to connect with independent sitters in their area, we cannot provide any guarantees. The sitters on the site are not our employees and they independently network on our site. We leave it up to them to consistently update their profiles. Depending on the location and timing, sitters can be more or less active and it's ultimately up to each individual sitter to decide whether or not they would like to respond. However, we absolutely do stress the importance of (timely) responsiveness and professionalism to all of the sitters on the site.

When a caregiver creates an account with us, we verify their identity before they are allowed to use the site. Sitters and parents have the opportunity to purchase background checks. We do suggest interviewing applicants you are interested in before requesting a background check. It is up to the parent's discretion for hiring a sitter as they work independently on our site.

If you ever need any assistance, we are here to help! Please reach out to our Customer Success Team at support@sittercity.com or 888.SIT.CITY (888.748.2489). Please note our phone lines are open Monday thru Friday, 8am-4pm CST.

I made an account and paid for a simple background check. I entered all of my information and it wouldn't go through. I emailed the only email that they have and got a response a few days later asking me to send in a picture of my SSC and my Drivers license. I went ahead and did that and waited a few days. I got an email back saying that the pictures weren't clear enough so I resubmitted them. A few days later they said that they would give me another free background check because of all of the trouble. I then tried to log into my account and it wouldn't work. I kept on getting sent to a webpage that said error 404. I even tried using different web browsers to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't. Since then I've been getting bombarded with telemarketers and other scam phone calls. I wouldn't be surprised if my identiy got stolen. I don't recommend this website and I also wasn't able to get a refund. Luckily I haven't been charged extra over the past few months. My condolences go out to those who are still getting charged.

I signed up for a 1 free month trial and got tricked into deceptive and dishonest billing practices.
I feel like this company violated my trust and naïvety.
I agreed in August 2017 to pay $0 for ONE month of their service and was asked to give my visa info.
I usually avoid any site asking for my Visa info stipulating that I can cancel any time" because I know some companies continue to charge after canceling, but I was desperate to find a sitter for my old little cat.
Not to mention that after spending hours making a profile, writing your add, uploading photos etc., when ou finally get answers they wont let you read/answer them unless you give your bank info!

9 months later, I noticed that they have been auto-debiting $35 from my account every month
A total of $315.
Of course, Im kicking myself that it's taken me so long to notice, I am an auto-entrepreneur, I work hard on construction sites and yes, I can be unorganized with my paperwork
I never received an invoice.
I never agreed to go Premium or to pay anything.
It has been done in my back, without my consent.
What is not acceptable is the lack of communication when it comes to payments.
When we pay our phone, our internet, our electric (etc.), providers send us invoices.
Sittercity, on the other hand, is charging us right at the source without letting us know and that is not acceptable.
So many people get tricked the same way and realize too late Sittercity have been charging them.
Charging candid customers who trusted them and gave them their card # WITHOUT sending them monthly bills is abusing their confidence.
I contacted customer services, my issue was mostly ignored.
They kept telling me like a broken record that the best they can do is to refund 3 months.

They argue that they automatically renew your subscription in order to avoid disruptions, what a marvelous lie!
They tell you that your opinion matter and that they will change their company policy. Of course, they do not!
They just make most of their money by deceiving the poor people who agreed to give their bank info.

Be very careful if you go ahead and use their services!

I Am The Owner of a nanny agency. The type of agency where the nanny comes in my office and interviews with me after completing a 13 page application, submitted references, have been FBI fingerprinted, CPR and First Aid certified, give me permission to contact all personal and childcare references and run her local background check and social security trace. Once that is complete it lets us knows everywhere she has lived over the years. So we can check each state for criminal history. We check her driving record, meth offender and sex offender records and do many other checks. This is all before we ever meet with the nanny. If the nanny is cleared after all of that we set up her face-to-face interview in our office. If she is a minute late we do not meet with her. We know that seems harsh but if you are do not show up on time to make an excellent first impression that is a terrible first start and not the look our agency is going for. We look for things like is her cell phone rings during the interview and if it does what does she do? Does she check it? Or ignore it and apologize? Are her nails clean? Are her clothes clean? Does she come prepared? These are only a few things.
SITTERCITY AND CARE.COM ARE JUST A WEBSITE.

THATS IT!
The owner or her husband probably was a web designer and had this brilliant idea. To ask lots of girls to enter their profiles on the site then started marketing and now they are millionaires.
Of course they can't be responsible. They have never ever met any of these people. So be very, very careful.
There is a big, big difference in a site like care.com and sitter city and mine.

Just do your check, backgrounds, references, pop in frequently, have neighbors stop by, get cameras. If they do not like it too bad and it probably means they are hiding something.

I've been in business placing nannies for over ten years and have never had an incident and have wonderful nanny's.

Just be very careful. It sounds too good to be true it probably is or there is a reason.
