After I graduated college I got a new job in Los Angeles and needed to find a place to live asap! Went online and found Roomster. They had a ton of rooms available in pretty much any area. Found a place no problem and I move in next week!

I tried to access the Roomster site to see listings that were shown on sublet.com and I am immediately asked to pay for mailbox access before I can do anything on the site with no explanation why this is needed?

Potential tenants are not required to complete their profiles, and most profiles seem more suited for a dating site - not for finding a quality rental or roommate. As a landlord, most contacts from roomster are a waste of my time.

Roomster is a glitchy, overpriced app
October 29, 2020

Roomster is a glitchy, overpriced app. It sometimes fails to save my changes, it posted my listing before I was ready, and is extremely tricky to cancel. It's obvious that the site is interested in making profit regardless of the quality of product.

Drop the automatic renewal and let the subscriber decide
September 29, 2021
Updated review

I don't like the automatic renewal for thirty days after signup. I think that should be up to the discretion of the subscriber without it being done automatically, regardless of the ability to option out before the next billing date. That's my opinion.

Looking for an apartment to move in July wasnt easy. Most places had leases for June and August and the July pot was slim pickens. But I sure as hell made the most of it, and nearly met with every available place I could. And of course like any story, theres a good ending. Met my now roommate, Jacob, and weve been kickin it every day. Hes been showing me around Brooklyn and told me all the hotspots around the city.

To find a beautiful living room I signed up in Roomster. I found a very nice room which charges only $470.00 per month that is reasonable to me. I spent only $14.95 for 14 days subscription in roomster but, I am not concern about that because, I got a very nice room as I need.

Deceptive website
April 24, 2021

Deceptive website. I thoroughly checked the website before signing up and I was never told that any fees were involved until I was asked to pay in order to read messages I already received. I will NOT recommend this website to friends.

I have to pay to see messages and I dont like that. The purpose of this is to find a suitable listing and its hindered by having to pay to contact them. Only doing this because Im desperate in finding a place.

The site is all over the place
September 10, 2020

The site is all over the place. I start to enter stuff and it is deleted or switches to previous page. Renters tell me that they had a REALLY difficult time switching their age etc. The slide bar is very difficult to control. Can rarely get the $ amount on the the exact amount I want.

I paid $ 14 as evaluation trying to find a roommate.

It never work, no one would ever return your messages. I learnt that later on craigslist where I met one of those roomate.com recipients. They told me they have to pay for reading the messages.

It is just a crap to me or everyone else if we pay $14 or less for a evaluation.
However, it is more like a scam to me that they charge me for $29 for the following months. I usually checked my credit card statement, but not the PAYPAL one, which is just an item on my credit card statement. So I didn't know I have been charged $90 because I didn't cancel the subscription.

The customer service already has an official canned message telling you how they can legally steal your money. And I wouldn't be surprised if I found this review here.

Roomster.com is a site for stealing your money. You sign up for a free membership then they send you fake emails to make you spend money to read them. Those fake emails tell you to email them directly then they try a variation of the Nigerian scam on you. Amazing this site is allowed to stay up. Glad I have a brain to check things out and use a spam email address to sign up for.

This is just an untrue and very reactive review. Yes, we charge a fee for our services. That does not mean we are stealing anything from anybody. There are no fake emails or accounts on Roomster. To think that we have any connection to a Nigerian scam is ridiculous. Sorry, that you don't like our site!

I never write reviews, but I found that not so many people I spoke to knew about this website and it has helped me so much I felt like it was my duty to write about it. I recently had to rent out two rooms in my apartment and it was so easy to find good people here. I strongly recommend that people try looking on here! I feel like everyone I talk to is so genuine and these are people you would want to have in your home. They are also looking for the same thing so it just worked out perfectly. Also there is loads of info on here and its so easy to get customer service when you need it. Try it out!

Absolute trash
April 3, 2018

Tried it and it was horrible. Literally only spam messages that were irrelevant to my search, and expensive. Did the 5 day trial. After 4 days (?!) the charged for the next month. What is the point of a 5 day trial if you are charging for another month after 4 days? Complete rip off, stay away.

This review, is not accurate. Olof Dallner purchased a subscription on 3/27/2018 2:05:55 PM that renewed on 4/1/2018 12:28:02 PM. THAT'S MORE THAN FIVE DAYS!

All Roomster subscription charges were authorized by you at the time of purchase via PayPal and a receipt was sent to you with instructions how and when to cancel to avoid any additional charges.

If you "Cancel Subscription" (https://bnc.lt/diNm/whBnNyqkSI?path=settings) you will have full access to your mailbox for the duration of your paid period, but it will not be renewed.

After paying for a few months (canceling my subscription after every payment fortunately) my account was suddenly deleted. No email saying I did something wrong (I had only sent inquiries out to people to see if they had interest in my room or answered inquiries), and no way to contact them as everything is automated AND requires having an account to access (thanks for deleting mine). Now I am out the rest of my subscription period and people I hope were real leads, but given the amount of bogus inquiries I cannot be sure, I cannot follow up to set up house tours. Please avoid and if you do use the site for some reason be SURE to cancel your subscription after paying because I have seen a lot of other people with similar issues. Definitely would recommend to avoid once again.

Roomster was a great alternative to craigslist for me. I had been trying to find a great affordable room to rent but it was a very strenuous task. Roomster easily sorted listings based on my budget and helped me find the right room fast.

Good easy access... watch out for the scammers
November 4, 2020
Updated review

My initial signup was a little bumpy, but online support quickly fixed that. Trouble is that as soon as I was registered I was hit by a number of offers that turned out to be scammers. Still haven't found a room in my price range, but overall it's a fairly decent site that's easy to navigate.

My initial room find on Craigslist told me to click on a link that led me to Roomster. It verified my Facebook account but then wanted to charge me $14.99 for an ID verification. When I searched for this feature after login out and in I couldn't find it. I'm not sure if that room was a scammer or not.

Useless
May 31, 2015

I haven't used Roomster much simply because I haven't found much that suits my needs there. I did however pay for 3 day subscription in order to message some potential roommates. I have never received responses. But the reason I am giving only one star is because I was charged $30 as auto-renew for a whole month of service, after my 3 day subscription was over. They say that apparently it was written somewhere that they would charge you until you cancel subscription. I am pretty sure it wasn't written anywhere obvious! I wouldn't have signed up for 3 days only if I wanted a monthly service! I wrote to them and they said they will issue pro-rated refund after I cancel subscription. Fine, but I still think what they did in the first place is bad business.

Hi Ivana, We would never charge you for a subscription unless you were fully aware that you created one. We do make you sign off on the terms of use twice, and do send you several email confirmations and reminders. Did you contact our 24/7 customer service help desk? If you had I am positive that you would be issued a pro-rated refund, which is our policy and keeping within our guidelines to provide excellent customer service.
