Gestapo culture
February 23, 2017

Multiple shadowy neighbors of mine "reported" me for a message I sent that was completely innocuous. I get a message that I had been "reported", and am "in violation". Still can't figure out what the problem was. But totally ruined my day.

Neighbors who know me, my name, where I live "reported" on me, and I was chastised. Their identity I know not -- they may be friends & acquaintances, haven't a clue. For what reason, i don't really understand.

It has created a totally uneasy feeling for me in this neighborhood now. Feels like a gestapo ghetto now.

Obnoxious and misleading
February 23, 2017

They sent me an email stating someone in my neighborhood was inviting me to their network. This was completely false. It was misleading spam. Once I "signed up" I saw that there was no invite and the site proceeded to try to get me to set up the network for my neighborhood. I signed out halfway through the setup process and they still sent me a postcard with an activation code and continuously emailed me trying to get me to finish the network setup. I have now unsubscribed from their emails twice and deactivated my account. Let's see if they actually leave me alone.

Neighborhood Cult
February 21, 2017

Explain the difference between SCIENTOLOGY and NEXTDOOR.
Thats what I thought. Its a CULT APP!
You have a cult leader with rules and laws that are straight out of nazi gemany and that leader controls the group and if you do not wish to be part of that "group" or "click" you are shunned like a 15 yr old pregnant Mennonite. Nextdoor claims to do good for the neighborhood but does nothing but cause conflict just like scientology saying they help people and cause nothing but conflict. But hey as long as someone is making that almighty dollar who gives a $#*!.

Gossipy and damaging site
February 20, 2017

Hey Nextdoor looks like I am not the only person that finds your quality of social networking harmful. Not only do you have no respect for privacy, you have no respect for harmful, damaging comments made about others. I find there is racism, gossip and mistruths on this "community" site. Nextdoor will not remove damaging conversations posted by a lot of gossipy people.

What Americans might use and tolerate is not the same as the UK. Small areas and poor privacy!
Membership from Streetlife will fall and cancel very soon. You don't understand the English.

... inadvertently walking into one of those weird cults where everybody smiles all the time. I posted my concerns about privacy and the fact I was encouraged to nag my neighbours to hand over all their details so we could reach some magic number of participants in 10 days or... heaven knows what might happen. And the ONLY responses I got were 'that's fine isn't it?' 'Just a normal message'. No dissenters AT ALL. No opinions - just the warm embrace of the 'converted'. I got out double quick!

I wish there was a minus star rating.
Streetlife covered all of Sutton Coldfield and 3,135 people were members.
We had great debates, shared knowledge etc.
Nextdoor - Tiny adjacent areas - I have 410 contacts. Hopeless.
Repeated requests via email to please broaden areas have fallen on deaf ears.

Nextdoor? - awful
February 19, 2017

"To protect your privacy" as they say, they ask for your name and address and publish it in full on their website... to protect your privacy? - what?

Madness... don't go there. You can adjust the settings, i. E. not show your house number - ha! - big deal. Streetlife was wonderful. Nextdoor is frightful.

Disgraceful!
February 18, 2017

I've only just joined up and I find my identity flaunted loosely. I can't find how to unsubscribe; wish I'd never been sent an 'invite'. How do we get these people banned? Is there a regulator to complain to?

I liked Streetlife it it was migrated to Nextdoor. Deactivated my account after I realised that all addresses, house no as well are made public with out my permission. Intensely annoyed that my area was split in to East and West. It's not that big. You sign up to a site for a reason. It's like if Twitter sold out to Facebook. So all Facbook account become Twitter. It just doesn't work.

Can't leave nextdoor quick enough. Dictatorial. Big on control of your personal info. Also wants to control what you post. I dont mean abusiveness just real everyday stuff. Try posting somthing about crime or antisocial behaviour. No way. Let's all be positive and unrealstic. Streetlife was really useful, promoted neighbourliness was friendly and fun. Not nextdoor. Too big, too rigid, too boring but very big on wasting my time. Best advice I have. Leave now.

Before enrolling check the t&cs it's scarry what info they are collecting from you also sent wife a postcard with her email address with middle part of name replaced with stars but it was obvious to anyone her full name was adjaicient as the addressee. How secure is that. From a company highlighting itself as secure!

An illegal con
February 16, 2017

I loved Streetlife and only wish I had discovered it earlier - I have found it sooo useful. I started to move to Nextdoor and got asked so many questions about my location and immediate neighbours that I gave up... am now very grateful that i did and hope that the limited information that they DID get from me is limited enough that I am NOT a member - if so then will have to manage to extract myself. It all sounds a totally illegal setup. Beware!

I joined Nextdoor when Streetlife was bought by them in Feb 2017. I have just deactivated my account after repeated attempts via the support email to get them to remove my street name from my profile. Nextdoor simply have no respect for people's privacy wishes. For the short time I was on the site it was apparent that other people were equally horrified that they had no control over the information displayed about them. Many people changed to false names (on Streetlife the convention was first name and initial of surname) to avoid their full first name and surname being displayed. Simply not good enough. Avoid.

Unethical and draconian
February 15, 2017

I am still in shock how a company can completely takeover and then impose it's draconian rules and stipulations for nothing more than profit. Not only does this remove any form of individual control over data but flies in the face of neighbourliness and community.

Currently trying Kahuti.com, who are keen to hear what users actually want.

For anyone who hasn't seen it there is a petition against the https://www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-close-the-uk-door-on-nextdoor-and-remove-the-welcome-mat?recruiter=*******&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink

Neighbor hood attack!
February 13, 2017

The site post everybody;s address! is that even legal??
I joined and was immediately attacked for posting the truth and facts of a crime!
then the lead guy telling me to back off! really? why because people cant handle the truth? they want every thing to be on the positive side! but you cant have one without the other! my neighborhood is full of thugs, animal/child abusers/drunks/druggy's domestics, traffic violations, and zoning and bulding code violations!
so how are you going to clean up the neighbor hood if you cant post negative things about the neighbor's!
what a joke! I only lasted two days and closed my account! not going to deal with these clowns!
next I noticed that if you are signed in and you close out the browser, when you come back you wil still be signed in! huh? that aint right! and posting addresses, not good! just a matter of time before the thugs latch on to this program and use it to attack elderly people at their homes! or worse!
the idea is good, but you have to have the good with the bad and they dont want anything to do with negative so nothing will ever improve!
Beware!

Do not join this site
February 13, 2017

This site displays your full name, and address and also the exact location of your address on google map without your permission. It has no regard for anyone's personal security and has no intention of changing its security policy. It is an American company with its EU headquarters in Dublin so is not subject to the jurisdiction of the UK Information commissioner. Streetlife has sold all its members down the river by selling out to Nextdoor. There are a couple of possible alternatives you can join - neither of which give out your personal information. They are www.kahuti.com and www.streetabank.com
