Nextdoor has a rating of 1.7 stars from 3,044 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 22nd among Social Network sites.
Nextdoor has no training procedures in place for moderators. Moderators need to identify who they are, the post they have an issue with, and what they need with the very first message. When someone says you're making me nervous, you're scaring me, perhaps that's the clue to act like a bit professional. When someone says, let's talk with the police, I feel scared then they should but not keep demanding explanations. They have your address too. Poor website with no training or procedures in place to have someone review a moderator. Do not use, do not put yourself and family at risk.
Some ppl on here reported burglaries after being forced to list all personal info on the site. It's insane to think they force you to put yourself at risk and ban you if you have a safety issue.
I was recently kicked off of Nextdoor for not agreeing with their political views! I did not break any rules and the LEAD for the Lomita Neighborhood "Catrina Gruver" had me banned for disagreeing with her.
I was kicked by a woman and the lead for not supporting their political views. All i posted was a helpful idea about carpooling to a nearby rally for the children to avoid traffic and parking in 100 degree weather. I was previously using my mothers name because there was a man bothering me and i felt threatened by him. There is zero safety on this site and the leads are friends of the troublemakers so there is no resolutions.
I was suggested to try out this website but I can't even do that. I tried looking for my neighborhood but it asked me to sign up and when I put in my address it said the neighborhood didn't exist and that I needed to select it on the map. So it takes me to the map and the neighborhood I live in is already a selected neighborhood. Whoever designed how to use this website does not know what they are doing and they should hire someone to redo the entire website and app.
Nextdoor is a place for bored community members to start arguments over things. I recently posted about a creep that was approaching my daughter at the beach and it started a huge uproar.
The only reason I gave it a 2 is because it's a good place to sell things.
So I joined a little over a month ago and I was forced to put my address and name on the website and within 48 hrs my cars and home were vandalized and broken into. This company is like the Titanic and after making a complaint to their online website for they don't have a telephone customer service representatives. I received no response. This company is going to be a penny stock and compromises people's safety and families privacy. I am going to the Media about this for I have not heard back from their help department to solve the issue. They could be seeking a class action lawsuit for they sell your information to third party companies. Do not join this website the people seem nice yet they said that about Ted Bundy.
If the Salem Witch Hunts took place now... it would take place on NextDoor. People I didn't even know would insult & publicly shame me if I gave my opinion & they didn't agree with it. And when I defended myself, they would attack me further. Then trolls would post total nonsense directed at me. I felt like a target of a lynch mob. I had plenty of support from people reading my posts & replies, but still got suspended with no warning or explanation or option to defend myself. What's truly eye-opening is NextDoor suspended me & not the bullies who trolled me! Management & neighborhood monitors are obviously biased and/or clueless, definitely unfair. Glad to be off of it though... it could've been potentially dangerous if any of those miserable neighbors dared to go from cyberbullying to vandalism or worse.
Not to rehash all the drama but we had a 17 year old chronically posting she needed a job. Numerous neighbors gave her leads and advise. The ingrate never even thanked anyone. She continued to bombard the site and it all started when I ( a pediatrician & mother of 2) told her that she had been given extensive leads and advise but did not seem very motivated. A few others had similar comments to her. Next thing I know I am blocked. We tried to get the app on my husbands email then my daughters and found out that basically our household was banned. This was many months ago. We have moved 30-40 miles away and were inv to join because our HOA uses it. I found out I am temporarily blocked due to a 17 year old and a few women saying I was a cyber bully. My husband and I are both doctors and Im a pediatrician for goodness sake but Im still banned. Didnt realize the people running Nextdoor were dictators. I think eventually they will be sued and I understand why.
Hands down THE nastiest place for neighbors to gossip, create diversity, threaten each other, and bully people. This entire concept needs to be shut down. Maybe a class action lawsuit against Nextdoor.com needs to take place and the leads sued. Any thoughts on this idea? Has it been done?
I had work done by Brian. He was best Plummer I have ever had work for me and 55 and don't do pluming work, He was very professional did a great job. And was very very reasonable, I will be using this co, rest of my life!
I live in no. West las vegas,@ mountain shadows. I was having trouble with a pool pump motor I had rebuilt and couldn't get it to start. Another neighbor told me about this website and looked up kenny baker, an electrician in my neighbor came over a couple hours later and tested all electrical power to the new pump. Everthing checked out. Now back to rebuilder. Thanks, REVEREND KENNETH BAKER!
The persistent belittling and bullying between neighbors is unacceptable and counter-productive. What's the point?
If the leads claim to uphold guidelines to promote decency and respect, they should uphold those guidelines.
People, please don't post anything on this site unless you are willing to be attacked by your fellow community members in a very public forum.
This site forces members of the LGBTQ community to use their deadnames, while allowing abusive and predatory users of the site to continue their harassment. It's completely lost on their employees why someone would not be comfortable sharing their full legal name connected to their addresses with neighbors who have many times invaded others personal privacy. Nextdoor will never care about your safety. I will gladly join any lawsuit against this site.
Helga Renfro: For days I have not received any Next door postings? I have been reported many times for no reason at all. So have many of other people on Next Door
See their reasoning below to constitute an INDEFINITE BAN... These people have personal issues with users now! This site is way out of control with the god complex of it's employees. How sad.

Ignorant lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
All four of those comments are clearly in violation of the Community Guidelines.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

The following is the response I received as to why I was banned:
Hi Ryan,

Gonna go out on a limb here and predict that this is the next important convo that gets everyone all riled up.
Its hilarious to me that the neighborhood lead closed the thread and than reopened it. Very curious?
Good ol Nextdoor.com #MAAA Making America Argue Again
Maybe you could do the community a civic duty and pick them up? Asking for a friend.
The 30 days is due to several violations combined with previous reports of conflict and trolling.
Please contact us again after May 4th to confirm you agree to follow Guidelines going forward.
Best,

THIS SITE IS ABSOLUTE BS
UPDATE: I had to email them 5 TIMES to get access reinstated and basically kiss their a$$ so they could make sure I was "serious" about following their subjective rules.
SITE IS STILL BS
The site is ridiculous, and a few of the leads go on a power trip, seeking approval from their friends, and censoring anyone they may harbor ill feelings against. For example, I made the mistake of opposing a specific individual's position on a topic who felt very strongly about their stance. In turn, the individual began calling me out on any thread I expressed any thought on, making outlandish claims that I am biased against anyone having a differing view than myself and somehow stretching this to equate to be some type of a personal attack on those that may have a different opinion. Weird, I know. However, it gets worse. I would post announcements regarding local activity social events, etc., and the person began filling my private messages with nasty, rude, hateful messages. I reported her. Apparently, a lead had put a stop to it... for a few weeks. Suddenly, it began again only this time she also started texting my phone as well. I reported her to the leads again, detailing what is going on. In response, I received a message from one of the leads, the person's neighbor, who informed me the harasser was claiming I was the one doing the harassing. I have screenshots of the messages sent to me, proving I never initiated or engaged in the communication. The lead responded that it is my fault for failing to get along with the person harassing me. Seriously? Is this the type of website Nextdoor has allowed itself to be? There should be a much better quality website that has safeguards in place to protect its subscribers against this type of behavior.
Interesting to see how a simple comment can turn a crowd into a lynch mob.
Had an issue with some post that personally I was glad to see booted off. Problem is, I pointed out the guidelines as to maybe why the post got deleted and I think the "Lead" was offended I took it upon myself to post the "guideline" so I got banned. The post should have been taken down within the 1st 10 comments and the Lead was nowhere around to control this. There is a lot of anger expressed on ND and I was only helping to keep things sane.
Don't tell them not to call the police on folks for petty issues or tell them that they're showing their privilege. You'll get banned.
All while they profile their neighbors as criminals for "looking scruffy", call the cops on kids walking too close to their lawns, and asking for snake removal for snake skin.
Racism runs rampant and anyone who says anything about it is reported en masse by a bunch of uncomfortable angry old white folks. The volunteer admin system is a joke. It's an excuse not to run the app like any other site with admin support.
Time consuming, absolutely rubbish. Was recommended by a friend have never spent so much time trying to join a website. Won't accept my number & fed up wasting my precious time. Stick with Gumtree etc, much more straight forward. Never again! If there was a 0 I would have marked it at that.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
When neighbors start talking, good things happen.
