MyHeritage is generally well-regarded for its user-friendly platform and extensive database, which many customers find invaluable for tracing their ancestry and connecting with relatives. Users appreciate the regular updates and the powerful search capabilities that facilitate discoveries. However, concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly related to billing issues and the difficulty of reaching support. Overall, while the service is praised for its features, improvements in customer support and communication are necessary to enhance user satisfaction.

When I did my test back in March they were using the Beta 9.0 it gave me some unexpected results but seem to break everything up a little bit better. I just did my families and they are now using the new beta 9.5. And the results are extremely vague. I know for a fact that my daughter has some Irish Scottish and British ancestry, yet all it said was West and North Europe. I bought them when they were on sale for $69 each so I did get 3 with free shipping however, you do get what you pay for. I also switched my test results over to the new 9.5 beta View and it's doesn't really match with my family's results very well. Sadly I am disappointed with the ethnicity estimates new parameters.
The gentleman that spoke to me about any and all questions regarding my results was phenomenal. I had my doubts about some of the findings, but this gentleman was more than informative about the results. An obvious Irishman, he explained how he was very much into DNA results and how to read them, having done his homework on how people migrated hundreds of years ago. If anyone should luckily get this man at Tech Support, consider yourself in good hands. I am very pleased with my results.
I am writing a rating of 4 out of 5 just because there are a few flaws and bugs in the system that may only be important to me, only I noticed them. I'll be happy to change the rating to 5 as soon as they're fixed, as promised by MyHeritage.
The work of the support team is especially great. Requests are always answered quickly, helpfully and patiently (sometimes those questions are due to my lack of familiarity with the descriptions). Got in touch with Jonathan, Glenda, Shearley, Ron - thank you!
I warmly recommend My Heritage. During year 2022 I have had/and has big problems with my health. Thus, I have not been able to do much research. I still hope to recover after my surgery spring this year.
When telling Support (Sophie) I met big empathy and received very good financial conditions for the year to come. This is a company you can rely on when times are tuff.
I don´t need to tell you about the professionality of the staff. Nothing to complain about - at all.
Thank you for your help to my query re how to manage duplicates in my online tree, the advice given was most useful.
It would be great if the program gave a warning when you are about to add a duplicate record with the same / similar name and birth date.
After owning a software company for 20+ years, this site epitomizes the lack of importance placed on support. I was hung up on twice, then the rep continually spoke over and my ability to ask a question was hampered to the point I asked for supervisor. Then asked for support in America, has none. Having help to existing users is one of the best and worst things about any company. You can either make or break the future. I needed help. All I got was rudeness; so much so if I can find a substitute I will gladly do so!
I would be ashamed to say I created MyHeritage, I'm ashamed I was silly enough to sign up for the free trial without reading these reviews first.
My heritage is not user friendly, very hard to cancel your account without being charged.
I have disabilities but I navigate plenty of websites without a problem, such as this one! I've never felt so frustrated using a website as I did with MyHeritage... So I decided to cancel my account/free trial, which brought on an even bigger set of difficulties.
Dean, I have sent you a few emails now, off the account I used to register to MyHeritage. Please can you reply to me and confirm my request to cancel my account permanently, and also process a refund?
According to MyHeritage terms and conditions you offer a refund within 30 days, please can someone on your team treat this as a matter of urgency? I'd prefer not to go to the bank or trading standards.
Dear Nikki,
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
I will certainly look for your email and reply to you.
Kind Regards,
Dean,
MyHeritage Team.
Every time I call, I'm prompted to selected a number that best describe my needs but after making a selection the phone abruptly hangs up in my ear. Its nearly next to impossible to reach a sales agent on line phone and all the other numbers provided for this cite are disconnected. I think I'm better off with ancestry.com at least their agents answer and all their listed number are in working order.
Dear Tenisha,
We are sorry to read your low-star review.
It is unfortunate that you did not manage to get through on the telephone to a representative and we apologize for this. There are possibly a number of reasons that it was not successful for you however there is also an alternative.
You are invited to write to support@myheritage.com with any concerns you may have and a friendly representative will be on hand to assist you with any problem you may be facing.
Kind Regards,
Dean,
MyHeritage Team.
I read this reviews and I'm kicking myself in the butt for not reading the reviews first. I know my mothers side of the family and her heritage, so I'll recognize if it's a scam. I hope they don't go off my last name... because it's my married name. If you claim that results will be ready on line in 3-4 was, being back logged is not an excuse. Please don't disappoint MyHeritage. I'll change my review once I receive my results.
The worse is the customer support. Why not have a tech via email? When you have a question you must call the support number listed. Then you sit on the phone for over an hour, They do have a prompt that says " leave us your number and we'; ll call you back in the order received" but did this 3 times without a call back. If you really want any support it's best you sit on the phone an hour ++++.
The next issue is there is really no merging. So because it's delete someone you keep getting these "smart matches" that are repetitious.
Now the plus. I do the way they search records from all sites. Their competitor will try to upgrade you for every thing
HI Darren,
I sympathize with how frustrating it may be to have trouble contacting us and I will do all I can to help.
Firstly, I must clarify that we do offer support via E-mail by all means. For one to contact a representative via e-mail, simply visit our help center and type in " Contact us" (http://helpcenter.myheritage.com) This will open a contact form, where you can provide a detailed description of your question, select an appropriate topic to ensure it gets routed to the correct place and even add an attachment if you wish.
In any case, I'll be happy to assist you personally with merging information from matches, but, in order to do so, I'm going to need to locate your account with us and ask you for more details on what exactly you are trying to merge. Please e-mail me directly at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com from your registered e-mail address so I may assist you with this as soon as possible. You are already one of my first priorities here.
Sincerely
Rafael

Helpful, knowledgeable and polite customer service; family tree builder is a great program with a lot of fun features and amazing assortment of options of how to present the information in various trees. Great matching capabilities. Search engine could use some improvement.
Thought it would be fun to see the results-----which are about as accurate as a fortune cookie or fortune cookie. My sister and I have both done DNA reviews and they are so different it is funny. No, one of us was not adopted. My Grandparents on my Father's side both came from Italy and that was my next to lowest percentage ---4% my sister's percentage 45%. Save your money and just assume your own heritage based on how you feel that day and you will be as close as this service.
Hi James,
I regret to find that you are unhappy with your ethnicity estimate.
There is actually a scientific reason for why a DNA ethnicity estimate will differ in between siblings and I would be happy to explain.
Each person receives 50% of his DNA from his/her mother, and 50% from his/her father.
The percentages of DNA a person receives from his ancestors are at the level of grandparents and further back (Great grandparents, etc.) Is not necessarily divided evenly in each generation.
Because the percentages of DNA a person receives from his ancestors at the level of second generation (grandparents) and further back is not necessarily divided evenly in each generation, it is possible that one great-grandparent may have passed on 3% of his/her DNA to his great-grandchild, while another great-grandparent may have passed on 11%.
This demonstrates why the probability of a person having only one pure ethnicity is very unlikely and why some siblings may inherit certain ethnicities, while other siblings may inherit the same ethnicity in another percentage, or even may not inherit this ethnicity at all.
Determining one’s ethnicity based on DNA is a relatively new field in genetics. Great advancements have been made in the past years, but there is much more to discover.
I can assure you that MyHeritage is on top of this and we will continue to work on improve our Ethnicity Estimate along with developing better tools based on your feedback, new scientific research and discoveries.
If you have any questions please write to my inbox at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com from your registered e-mail address.
I am honestly on vacation at the moment but I have ensured that a collegue of mine will be waiting to help you.
Sincerely
Rafael

This is a review of the MyHeritage support line. I had decided to call about a difference between "Discoveries" and "Smart Matches" (in the one, we can see the original tree of the matched user, but in the other, we can only accept additions to our tree 100%, or "reject"; of course, we would want a third choice perhaps called "Wait & See", to examine the tree first, then decide!) and got an informed and friendly confirmation of what I had seen, and some reasons behind the odd-seeming policy. Really, everything that one could want in a Support department!
I called for technical support regarding a problem that appeared to be more complex than I had expected. Aaron found the core of the problem and wrote an elaborate self-explanatory review with instructions. After following these the problem was gone. Great help.
Dear MyHeritage user,
I'm sorry the email from our Support team is taking longer than you expected.
The email should have been sent to your registered email address but it could have gone to the Junk/Spam folder. Please have a look just in case.
If it's not there, email me your account details (account ID number or registered email address) via elena.vipsupport@myheritage.com and I will personally follow up on it.
Kind regards,
Elena, MyHeritage Team
I purchased the DNA kits for my wife and I. They were a fair value. However, searching their database was NOT productive at all and showed zero results for my father despite having specific, accurate search parameters. Using the same parameters on several free sites produced results I could verify as accurate. My little test focused mainly on census records. My father was a well known local business person and, briefly, elected to a public office. That should have resulted in public records as well as news articles.
My initial experience was that it took a very long time to receive an answer to a question if I received one at all. Lately, my questions have not only been answered promptly, but have been very helpful and thorough.
I am not happy with the manner in which subscriptions are renewed. There is no advance notice that it will be automatically renewed and no warning of what the cost will be. Customers should be given the option to cancel or change their subscription in advance.
Dear Dennis,
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
When you purchase a subscription you are sent from us a "Thank you for your purchase" email. Within this email you are notified of the current charge and also the future charge, cost and date. There is also a link that you may click on that will take you to your "My Purchases" section of your online family site. Here you will be able to control the status of your subscription.
You may also log into your online family site and move your mouse over your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen and from the drop down menu click on "My Purchases".
I trust this has proven useful to you.
I have been working with Myheritage for almost 2 years to create a family tree. This has led me to also use a DNA test to learn more about my ancestors and ancestry. The whole event has given me a lot of knowledge and was a wonderful pastime during the Corona pandemic. Several times I have enlisted the help of knowledgeable MyHeritage staff, which has helped me tremendously and I am very grateful to them. I can recommend everyone to embark on this adventure with MyHeritage it is an enrichment.

A little while back I had an issue that was to do with a third party used by MyHeritage, not specifically to them. I was a little grumpy when I made my views known, but it was handled brilliantly. So, many congrats and very well done to Johnny on the MyHeritage support team for handling it so well. He, and MyHeritage, demonstrated spectacularly good customer service in resolving the issue swiftly. They didn't get rattled, they dealt with it smartly. Their response was admirable, and I am very appreciative. Top marks, guys!
June 9 I ordered a premium subscription because I thought I could fix misinformation regarding my mothers family. They put her brother and sister as half siblings and it's just not so! Believe me I asked every member of the family! Also I did the DNA test and that was confusing. My mothers side came from Ireland and yet I have no Irish in me at all. My twin brother has 33 %! I want to cancel my subscription, delete my account and the tree. Denise M
Dear Denise,
I am sorry to read about your negative experience and I will do all I can to resolve all the issues you report.
The issue you report in regards to your mothers side of your family tree usually stems from when you added or connected your family members on your tree.
In the case of adding half siblings, there is a specific way to add this and I'm going to help you fix this.
Regarding your DNA ethnicity estimate results, I'd like to go over your DNA uploaded and Ethnicity Estimate with our DNA department to investigate why this is so.
In order to help you with all of this, I am in need of locating your account with us. Please contact me via e-mail at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com.
Your issues are my priority and I will be looking for your e-mail to assist you with everything as soon as possible.
Sincerely
Rafael

I had issues with my subscription and contacted the support line via email. The response time was fast and they were extremely nice and professional helping me resolve my issue. The site itself is worth every penny! Definitely an easy 5 stars!
Answer: My issue was the automatic renewal without any kind of courtesy reminder prior to the effective date, as other businesses do. Advising one year in advance is a poor business practice. When I contacted them immediately on the renewal effective date, they refused to cancel and offered me a 25% discount. They eventually gave me the full refund but it was due to me turning it over to AMEX to resolve. I do however agree with the advice to base your renewal on your own personal experience.
Answer: You can find your site subscriptions via MyHeritage homepage - pull-down menu on the right upper corner button "Settings". Then click on "My purchases", and button "Site subscriptions". Click "View details". The details contain section "Cancel subscription". Maybe you can get advice by mail from MyHeritage support team (support@myheritage.com).
Answer: If you are looking to get as many connections to your tree that you can, use My Heritage. If you want flexibility in who is added to your tree, use Ancestry.
Answer: Dear Jonathan, Yes I have the same problem, I wrote to My Heritage and they have still not responded to my request for assistance. They are highly Sloppy and unprofessional in responding to customer request for assistance. Even though they have and excellent Technical Team. Fortunately I have another Computer with Windows 8 as a result of which I am able to continue working with my Website. But recently a few problems have cropped up with the recent upgrade of the My Heritage Program and have sent in a request for assistance and till today 3-5 months later I have no response. Apparently the company believes that they can play games with the customers. I firmly believe that they have somehow gone into self destructive mode.

Answer: Hi After posting my complaint about MyHeritage on here I got a very quick response from some one called Dave at the company. He told me to send an email to support@myheritage.com and add the subject Dave: sitejabber. He responded a couple of days later - I emailed on a Saturday - and the auto repeat on my subscription was cancelled and my money refunded within days. Hope this helps.
