I'm surprised at all the bad reviews on here. I've been buying deals from livingsocial.com for a few months now, and I love love love it! I've gotten coupons for wine bars, restaurants, and found my son's Art teacher on livingsocial.com (she is a lovely lady and my son still goes to see her for lessons).
I even got a full refund on a Living Social Escape I had purchased and then had to cancel. They didn't give me a hard time or anything- promptly refunded everything.
The very first time I tried to contact them via phone earlier in 2011, it was hard to get them on the phone, but they have come a long way since. Maybe it depends on the market...? I'm in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami market. I give them two thumbs up.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE customer service. I have been trying for over a week to get a refund on a purchase. I have sent THREE e-mails with no response so today I found the phone number and called them. The recording said that basically they are too busy to talk, go to the website, said goodbye and hung up! Not even the option to hold for a representative... I will never purchase from them again.
FYI - Groupon responds to an e-mailed request within an hour or two...
I have been trying to contact LivingSocial for over a week now, as a voucher I have (though still not expired!) is for a restaurant that has already closed. I've sent an email, but have heard nothing back, and have tried to call over 25 times, but always receive a message saying they are "experiencing large call volume" and then disconnects me. So frustrating! Don't think I will be purchasing from them again!
I was reading all the reviews on this site after purchasing a car detailing voucher yesterday from livingsocial.com, I was a little worried that the site would be a scam -I wouldn't get my voucher or I would get extra charges on my credit card, but this morning I received my voucher ready to use, I saved 80$ and already made an appointment to bring the car in. Worked for me!
We purchased a B&B through them... they evidently do not check into these places but we did not stay... the place was not habitable and our reserv wasn't there. So, I tried to get a hold of livingsocial by phone about 5 times and via email. The phone lines go to a fast busy signal. Also, here is the kicker. The first purchase you make, goes into their system as a reoccurring monthly payment as a membership! If you don't read the fine print your screwed. My bank told me this and we had to close our debit card and do two chargbacks. They are getting a lot of complaints and probably won't be around long. Just don't do it and save yourself a headache.
Purchased a $50 credit for VistaPrint online. I designed and ordered business cards, letterhead, and envelopes, and placed them all in my cart for a total of around $50. Then, I submitted the living social deal code. Suddenly, the TOTAL in my cart DOUBLED to over $98! Livingsocial, it's no deal when the retailer jacks up the price for livingsocial patrons! What a ripoff.
I've been on hold with livingsocial waiting for customer service -- estimated wait time is 5 minutes, then 3, then 1, then 5, then... for a total of close to 20 minutes now. Forget it!
I have an ongoing complaint with this website who are trying to fob me off with a useless $5 credit. I have a confirmation email regarding 4 ski passes I have bought and they are refusing to honour it. I see on the web a lot of other people have found them to be rip off artists too and have similar stories. Beware - this is not a reliable website or company. Do not use them
This company is a ripoff! My husband bought a restaurant coupon from livingsocial.com for one of the restaurants here in town, Drunken Poet Cafe. He paid $15 for a $30 coupon to be used for one meal total bill. We drop by there for lunch and used this coupon. We showed the waitress the coupon when we sat down before we placed our order. She told us, they honor it, no problem. Our total bill came out to be $38.50. My husband handed her the cc for payment. So when she came back, we expected to pay the difference and tip on the full amount of the bill. However, when we returned with the bill for our signature, she told us the tip has been taken care off and that we did not have to worry about it. Our cc was charged $15.00, something we had never seen before. We were not told of how much our bill is after the discount (eventhough we figured it out with no problem) and never in our lifetime we have seen restaurant taking out the tip, without notifying us first that they would do so and the amount they would charge for it. Usually it is to our own discretion. But we normally tip 20% and up. It ticked me off really bad.
Aslo besides the rotten restaurant fisco, the point I am trying to make is, there is really no discount! You just pay some portion of your bill upfront and pay for the balance when you go to get your good/service PLUS strangers perhaps scammers get your personal and cc information.
I think this site offers some good bargains, BUT here's the catch... you may purchase a deal. You might get a confirmation screen. BUT when you go to get your deal, it won't be there because your credit card information never stored properly NOR your email address... even if you are getting daily subscription emails. I bought a deal and took a screenshot of the confirmation screen. A week went by and when I went into my account, no deal was there. I contacted customer service who said I would not receive the deal because my card was not valid (even though it IS valid and was accepted for other deals) and I should have contacted them through an email link within 5 days... only I never received any email (and yes, I checked my spam folder). So, too bad so sad for me, but make sure if you deal with this company, that you double triple check your account (unlike the ease offered by many other more trustworthy sites) that you did in fact get the deal because screen shots of confirmations get you no where. On a final note, I had a pending charge on my credit card, but it never finalized... don't know why...
Livingsocial customer service is atrocious. I recently bought a livingsocial deal and my experience at the restaurant was horrible and not nearly as pleasant as livingsocial described it would be on their blurb about the restaurant. Further when I wrote to them about a refund they never got back to me, and I wrote to them twice. Use sites like SOCIAL SHOPPER and GROUPON, their customer service is impeccable. They stand behind their guarantees. I would not waste my time/money with livingsocial.
I feel like I've been scammed! They sent the voucher to print out & it's impossible to download. I have been calling all day & the phone rings off the hook. I called the vendor with whom I purchased the deal for & told them about all the bad reviews I've been reading about online. He's cancelling. Tomorrow I'm going to my bank & dispute my purchase as a scam. Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem. God I hate scammers... & they have scammed me!
Four of my vouchers were marked used eventhough I had not used them yet. I tried to call but was left on hold for 10 minutes so I emailed them. I had emailed them about another issue weeks ago and they still have not responded. I really didn't have hopes that they would respond this time. I'm still waiting. They don't answer the email or phone. Instead of saving money, I'm throwing it away. Never again! Now I know why Groupon is so much better.
I just purchased a deal which says 40% off the all-inclusive resort in Cancun. Well after purchasing I checked the hotel and the price was in total $210 less than if I had gone to the hotel directly. Customer service is not helpful in resolving this issue and there is a disconnect between Living social help and those that book the hotel. I spent a lot of time between the two and the only resolution was cancellation. To me this was not a deal as advertised and the is wrong. Anyone rexperience this?
Bad Experience. They over sold a deal and when the user tried to redeem a voucher before the deadline, the business refused to honor the deal voucher.
Sucks.
On 5/27/11 I purchased a deal for an evening of Go-Karting at Victory Lanes, in Charlotte, NC. This was FALSE ADVERTISING! First of all, the deal is setup to look like this is for TWO people ("Grab the Goose to your Maverick -- or any other wing man with a need for speed -- and strap in for today's screamin' deal"), as their staff admitted to me when I got to Victory Lanes, when in actuality it's only for one person. Then, it says "head to Victory Lane Indoor Karting for 60 minutes of heart-pounding endurance racing on professional-grade go-karts", which we also were told was false, it's only 2 races, 10 min each for a total of 20 minutes. I left disappointed and feeling cheated. I wasted time, gas and money to come to this FALSE event you guys are advertising and I demand a refund. I won't be purchasing ANYTHING ELSE. In fact, I may just get a refund for the other deals I've purchased and I'll be warning my blog readers, family, friends and others in the city not to support LivingSocial. I am really upset right now, as I looked forward to this event for weeks only to be disappointed! Lesson learned: when something online looks too good to be true, it probably is.
The rep at the event just kept apologizing and basically came across to me like if we wanted to participate we'd have to pay more money. THAT is how you treat customers after you admit that the wording was false and the deal is NOT as printed? TRUE customer service would've been "Well sir, we can't extend the time of your races, but since our deal was misleading, we can accomodate you and your guest to the deal at no additional cost". I wouldn't have gotten the advertised hour race, but at least I would've thought twice about being a customer. She made NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER to rectify the situation. That's unacceptable.
I recently purchased 2 movie tickets for 9 dollars from livingsocial.com. It has been a week and my account has not been created, i have no movie tickets but of course they have already charged me. It is a shame. This is called stealing. I send an email to their support services and no answer yet. I tried to call their phone number but no one is answering.
Never, ever in my life i will buy anything from this company.
I'm a merchant that listed a deal with LivingSocial.com. The contract clearly stated that LivingSocial.com would pay the merchant (me) within 15 days of the close of the deal. It is officially day 15. No payment from LivingSocial.com. Finally got a call after I submitted a help ticket via the website, and the guy said that "technically" the deal ended at 5 a.m. on a Monday morning, so Monday didn't count as a business day. Really? My business has now issued 4 weeks of payroll upon providing 20% of the vouchers sold without any form of income to offset the payroll costs.
I tried to contact the customer service number that the sales rep provided. It rang into a dead queue that said "all representatives are busy helping other members" and then said "goodbye". What kind of customer service is this? No contact information on the website for merchants? Just a form email via the website?!
You would think that as a new merchant to their company, they would get over their technicality of "business days" and pay their merchants within 10-15 days. The payment should be received by the merchant within 15 days. No postmarked on the 15th day.
There's a reason why you hear about horror stories from merchants about working with companies like this. I thought they'd be different, but I guess not. Never listing a deal with them again. Ever.
I tried to purchase a deal that cost $199 from Living Social on Friday morning as a gift for my boyfriend. I accidentally added three to my cart but deleted the two extra within less than a minute of adding them.
I now have an extra $398 charge on my debit card. I called Living Social who said it should be removed within a business day but why on earth would they charge my card in the first place? I was told that the charge automatically goes to your bank so they can confirm the money in your account is there but there should really be a confirmation that you would like to purchase these deals before any charges are put through. No apologies either, she just said that is how "every online site works - I should know this". I beg to differ - I've purchased plenty online.
I purchased two Fandango movie tickets because they were running a special for 2 tickets for $9. I also got $5 deal buck credit for creating an account. Well I was not charged four dollars and I made sure to apply it to my order. I saw four dollars as my grand total. Well I just checked and they charged me the full damn amount completely forgetting about my deal bucks I guess. Whooops! And to top it all off, I still have not gotten the movie tickets when they told me that I would get them within 48 hours. Not happy. There are also a ton of people on their Facbook page that are saying that they referred over three friends which would have meant that they would get the deal for free and guess what happened? The counter conveniently stopped at 2 for quite a few people. I wonder if the same happened to me. I got two emails alerting me for sign-ups that used my link and that's all and I bet there was more.
Answer: I wouldn't recommend these people to anyone. A total nightmare. They take your money don't send the goods and they don't answer e mails
Answer: There do seem to have been some financial problems with many of the deals from Living Social. But when I had a problem they answered the phone and it was dealt with quickly and the goods resent.
Answer: Have you contacted the customer service at Livingsocial.com? I have found them to be pretty responsive in the past. This is a seperate review site.
LivingSocial is a leading "daily deal" site that sells discounted experiences and local services--restaurants, spa trips, home services, travel, etc.--via voucher. The consumer must pay for the voucher upfront, and the voucher generally must be used within a specified time period or it cannot be redeemed. To make these deals possible, LivingSocial sells merchants on its ability to help "find and keep more customers". LivingSocial is a private company based in Washington DC and its shareholders include Amazon.com.
