Did not appreciate the quality of the customer service when I called Hoveround. Would look for another electronic wheelchair provider.

I started in beginning of August w these people trying to get a power wheelchair thru my ins (Medicaid United Health Care). I originally had a telehealth appt w my primary dr but figured I best go in person, even though I had torn a meniscus and come to find out part of my cartilage in my knee. We listed everything I had/ have which is a loose right knee replacement which is 3 years ago today I had done, a right thumb bone removed which got infected and now my phone is deformed and hard to hold on to a cane or Walker, my left wrist has sharp pain making it all so hard to hold on to a cane or a walker, emphysema stage 3, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and a myriad of other issues. I just called today, October 3rd, after my appointment one month ago and not hearing a thing. I was told things were incomplete and I still needed to go to the doctor for another visit! I said what more do you people want? Someone with no legs? I said why can't you just submit the paperwork to my insurance company and see what happens? I certainly have enough issues for it to be approved! Nope the agent would not hear of it! So I told them to take their wheelchair and shove it! Good luck is all I can say!
From the first phone call. To receiving my power chair was fast and easy. It took less then 3 weeks. And I had my chair Thank you.

My issue was taken care of completely and a very timely manner with orderly and polite customer service.
Had discussion with representative of Hoveround last week and have heard nothing as of today. What is next?
First, on Medicare I received a NEW Jazzy from Scooter Store and went through a lengthy eval by PT and Dr. before getting it. Loved it! Five years later and time for a new chair, Scooter Store was gone. I got in touch with Hoveround and they were so friendly that they actually hounded my Dr. to get the paperwork, etc. The 1st chair arrived with tears in the seat. The delivery guy wanted me to sign for acceptance but I didn't and he had to take it away. A couple weeks later the replacement came dirty on the bottom. I expected a new chair but it was USED! He told me in a rude way that I couldn't afford a new chair and this was all I could get. He said it had been new a couple weeks ago but the guy that had it only used it once before dying! Multiple calls to them resulted in being hung up on, rude or uncaring responses, OR multiple transfers to retell the problem that ultimately resulted in a 'dropped' call. Now 18 mo. Later and bottom breakdown, Dr. orders a Roho cushion. He did his part to for prior auth. Cushion wasn't approved because Medicare paid Hoveround for a 'Captain's Chair'. I have a short backed standard seat. Their website only shows Captain's chairs on scooters! Now I have to contact Medicare to deal with potential fraud all while needing to get a hold of the company for a repair! Also, the chair is slower than the Jazzy and is NOT as maneuverable.
The staff has been great they went alll out to get me my chair. I hope to deal with them in the future.

Sales person was thorough and explained everything very clearly. He went step by step and made sure I knew how to operate the equipment safely.
Representative very courteous and helpful. Helped set up the physician prior authorization appointment.

The chair is good a bit pricey but works good when running, I called customer service because my wheels locked up I was told a repair person would contact me when insurance approves, I waited a month and no replyI called and they told me that still waiting for insurance company to approve new tires! Wait a minute I told them that's not the problem! He transferred me to tech support I explained again my problem. The tech said it needed new motors, I asked why they don't come out and look or take chair to find out the problem? They ststed they don't do that they send repair person to your home and fix it there, Anyways had to get another approval for motorsanother month and a half I called again this time I called my insurance company and was told they received approval I talked to customer service who stated that insurance only gave partial approval I asked what that meant and of course transfer to tech support they told me there was no approval yet I told him my insurance company and customer service said it was approved I asked to speak to supervisor and was told they might email me back now what still no chair repair!

I have the HR mp5.---It is horrible to maneuve, they have the turning wheels in the bsck. How would you like to drive your car with the steering wheels in the rear?
The customer service representative was very informative n her knowlege was very understanding well i could comorehend her answeres when i asked her questions.

Answer: So sorry to hear that. I am no longer living with my father-in-law, but I can add to my earlier review and comments. The company did exactly the same thing to him, again. A year later. They got in touch to say that Medicare had accepted their appeal and that the chair was now finally his, and they sent a guy round with the paperwork for signature and everything looked great. It subsequently turned out that Medicare hadn't approved anything and didn't know anything at all about the appeal, and that they were not going to pay. The story that Hoveround gave me was smoke and mirrors and back came the bill for the chair again. As far as I know, a year and a half on, the chair is still not officially his. I probably won't hear anything more about it now, but I'm quite glad I don't have to deal with these people yet again.

Answer: Yes, if doctor can prove medically necessary. Doctor must make file notes to support and you must have an office visit that only addresses the need for your chair.
