Misleading
July 31, 2018

I booked a hotel with hotwire and chose a 4 star rating for 3 families (3 per room). When we were given our hotel I called the hotel to check out accommodations... I was told that we have a single room and would be charged an extra $25 per family if the room needed a roll away bed. What? We were 3 people in a room Hotwire makes you choose your star rating... I chose 4 star! How does a roll away bed equate to a 4 star hotel? After me hearing this information I called Hotwire and YES I was confused/upset - We were going to New York with our son who is 17 and too big for a roll away bed or to sleep with mom and dad. Hotwire said that they will call to rebook elsewhere... I was on the phone for 3 hours... they could not find any other hotel... sounds fishy! Now they are going to call the hotel they booked me with and they said that they are going to confirm a double room (2 beds) in each room for my booking, now, I'm happy its 1:20 am and they are going to send me a confirmation. When I woke up I checked my email and there was no confirmation... I called hot wire again! I was on the phone for again approx. 3hrs. This is crazy! In the end they were crediting me $100 hotwire dollars to use on mt next booking and I'm getting a double bed room (2 beds) and the other 2 families might get roll away beds. I arrive in New York, I check in, I did not get a double room; the hotel does not have any left... I did get a room that equate to 2 stars and a roll away bed that I almost had to fight for in front of a crowd of people. In the end Hotwire said whatever they could to get me off the phone and for my persistence they credited me $100 Hotwire credit. This was all to their favour because they had me pay 4 star fees for a 2 star service. I'm one unhappy Hotwire customer

Hotwire is an operating company of Expedia Inc. I was attempting to book a room in Palm Beach Gardens for 3 nights. When I received the email showing the address of the hotel it was in WEST PALM BEACH! I called hotwire back (in Bangalore, India!) only to be transferred to another rep. It turns out this one was an expedia rep given me by a hotwire rep, WHAT? Anyway he corrected the problem (I thought) booking us into a hotel in Palm Beach Gardens and ensuring us that the errant hotel in West Palm Beach had been removed. When our Master Card bill came, you guessed it, there were charges for both hotels. I called a Hotwire rep "Ranjit Singh" or something, in Bangalore for help. I might as well have talked to a cabbage. Absolutely no interest in helping me. I called M/C and contested the second hotel fee on my M/C bill. Now M/C is telling me I have to come up with all of the documentation from last year to prove that what I am saying is true. I guess birds of a (corporate) feather stick together! By the way, I HAVE all the documentation so I'll fight this till I die! The M/C rep also told me that I was Guilty until I proved my innocence!
M/C, I am positive knows full well the bad practices that Hotwire is meting out to their customers. The problem is, we the people can never get to the parties that are really responsible for the rip offs that we endure, of course I am talking about the greedy executives that will do just about anything to rip us off for another few hundred dollars as in my case here. Those CEO's should be totally ashamed of themselves. Is it that tough to run an upfront honest business? God please help protect us from these monsters that belong to that exclusive group "The Circle of Greed".
They just can Never have enough. How pitiful!

We had planned a surprise bday trip for my father in law in July. He has never been outside of Texas and has always wanted to go to Seattle. We booked the trip January 28. Once the nation was put under locked down due to COVID19, my father in law got very worried about traveling to Seattle since he isn't in the best health. I started to cancel everything the middle of March because I knew it was going to take a while. American Airlines refunded, no questions asked. Air BNB refunded, no questions asked. My rental car through hot wire is a different story unfortunately. I waited about a month with no response. So I chatted with a Hot wire representative who said my cancel request was DENIED! I asked why and they said because my trip was still so many months out and to send in another cancellation form closer to my trip date. Today (5/26/2020) I called to get a status check and they said THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME! COULD DO NOTHING! What kind of customer service is this?! We are in the middle of a global pandemic and all this company can think about is THEIR MONEY! It is absolutely absurd! I will continue to email them EVERYDAY until someone gives me another answer! THE CANCELLATION IS NOT OUR FAULT! We would of LOVED to get away from Texas for a little bit but I understand my father in law's concerns. SHAME ON YOU HOTWIRE! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN TO BOOK ANYTHING! RUNNN! DON'T BOOK WITH THEM! BOOK WITH KAYAK! THEY ARE MORE CUSTOMER FRIENDLY AND DO CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS! I seriously wish I could leave NO STARS!

False room discription
August 12, 2016

This was my first and last experience with Hotwire. Hotwire advertised a Hot Rate Hotel. I needed 2 rooms so I needed to call customer service to book the room. In the description of the hotel and room it stated the room had a kitchenette.
Upon booking the room I specifically asked the booking agent about the kitchenette. We discussed it was more than a small frig and a microwave. He assured me it had a stove, frig, microwave and was a full kitchenette.
We discussed this further, as I enquired if the hotel had breakfast. It did not. Therefore a kitchenette was important, as we where traveling with children. I booked the hotel and immediately received confirmation. I looked up the hotel and the rooms only have a frig and a very very small microwave. I dialed Hotwire immediately. I was put on hold for 35 minutes. I hung up and dialed again. The girl, Abby rudely explained I had lost my place in the que because I hung up and would have to wait again for customer service. I waited again 25 minutes longer.
I called another number and was offered to receive a call back. When Mary from the Philippians returned my call she called the hotel and confirmed that the room had a frig and microwave. However, they would supply a hot plate if needed. I do not consider a hot plate a kitchenette at all. There are not plates, utensils or any other items related to a kitchen in this room.
The remedy Mary offered was that upon check-in if we didn't get a room with a kitchenette, we should call Hotwire and they would find us a room with a kitchen. This is not a good solution. We don't in until 9:00 at night with 2 small children. I don't feel it is an adequate solution. We are scheduling this room a month in advance-therefore, we should know if we are getting a kitchenette or not. I was CLEAR with the booking agent as to what I qualified as a kitchenette.
I want a refund and will book with Priceline, as I always get what I want with them

Long story short, I bought a Hotrate hotel night, which is supposed to be at least 30 percent off right. WRONG. When I found out what hotel it was, (out of curiosity) I went to book the same exact thing I did on Hotwire and it was a dollar less on the company website. That's bogusness because since I didn't know what hotel I was getting the discount should've been higher and NOT THE SAME PRICE AS THE ACTUAL HOTEL WEBSITE. Then I contacted customer service and their attitude was pretty much- well sucks to be you. Excuse you? How is it even possible that a secret hotel was more expensive on Hotwire than the real website?
Now, let's have a little follow up to my story. When I got to the hotel they told me that since I was under 21 (I'm 20), I couldn't get a room, that was already fully paid for. I called Hotwire and they got me another hotel room and a refund (I still had to pay for the new room). Since it was Hotwires mistake (It said 18 and up on the website) it should've been their common courtesy of getting me the other hotel complementary, seeing it was 11 pm and we were stuck trying to decipher our situation in the lobby for a good 45 minutes..

I attempted to book a weekend away using Hotwire. When I went to "click" which hotel I wanted my computer screen jumped and I hit the wrong property. I immediately called Hotwire to correct the property. I was informed that they would have to refund me and I would have to pay for the new reservation. I agreed and specifically told the Representative that I wanted to stay in the in Plainview/ Melville property, I described the property, price, area exactly how it appeared on Hotwire's website. When I received my confirmation, I was booked in a COMPLETELY different hotel, which is now a motel, in a completely different unsafe area. I called Hotwire to have this issue corrected but I was informed that I would have to pay AGAIN (3rd time) in order to have a refund. I do not have any more money. I also do not have the reservation that I requested or, a safe place to stay. I just want a refund OR the correct accommodations without having to pay more money which I do not have. I called every telephone number I could obtain for Hotwire but nobody would give me the corporate office or even the number to customer service to obtain a refund. All I wanted was to switch the motel to the hotel in my desired area without being charged for the 3rd time. I finally, after calling 6 times, spoke with a supervisor, Eric. He told me that the town I wanted (Melville) did not exist and could not do nothing for me. I cannot cancel nor will they let me get the hotel i wanted. Eric was very unprofessional and hung up the phone on me. I called again and asked for the the Corporate office spoke with another supervisor, Amanda, and again, was given the run around. I tried to explain what was going on and she said she could not do anything for me. I am not getting a refund, and I do not feel safe with the motel that was booked without my consent. I need my money back. I believe I am a victim of bait and switch and Hotwire is stealing my money by forcing me to stay somewhere I do not want to stay.

This was my first time booking a flight and it was for my college spring break. I decided to go to Chicago to visit my family. I decided to save up so that I could afford a cheap flight and have a little money for some things. I was able to book a flight round trip for about $150 which isn't great but it was good. I love to online shop and booking plane tickets can be very similar, one thing about online shopping is that it is tedious and if you went the right information wrong it can really screw you over. So I am a very thorough online shopper and I am very proud of that. I will ask a hundred times my friends and parents opinions before I purchase anything. So I was very through in making sure that I had everything about this flight correct because I know that there are a lot of things that can go wrong. When it said from Atlanta to Chicago and THEN from Chicago to Atlanta it was right. It wasn't until 2 days later that I received an email saying the opposite of that. I called Hotwire in a panic worried that all of my spring break money would be waisted on a flight I couldn't even take. They kept me on hold for 15 minutes which isn't that bad for a customer service line. (I waited for a spirit rep. For 54 minutes) but after speaking to someone they told me A.) that they could not control my flight for spirit- so I had to call spirit directly and not get a refund as well as paying $45 on top of that. And B.) that the second flight which was American airlines, would cost me another $200 on top of the already paid ticket to change. All of this extra money for a mist I didn't make... I don't know if the website does this to get more money or it really was just a glitch but wither way it is bullsh*t that I am using all of the money saved for this trip just to get there. I was not happy with how this was handled and I've tried reaching out multiple ways but have yet to hear a reply. So f u Hotwire

5 July 2022: I have used Hotwire for some years and in the past couple of months they have just gotten horrible. Mid 2021 I bought tickets to fly overseas December 2021. Between June and Dec 2021 they changed and canceled my flights and stated that I was the one that changed the flights then they lied and said it was the airlines. I spent many hours on the phone going back and forth with these A-holes to resolve issues that they created. They will put you on hold on purposed to piss you off and act like they are doing something. Customer representatives from INDIA are the WORST! Customer service HORRENDOUS they F%^5s will put you on hold for for long periods of time, you will call to resolve a small issue and it will take over an hour talking to incompetent representative that can barely speak in English. Their refund policy should be illegal and reported to the government, we should be able to get our money back or apply the same funds to the reservations.

Today (5 July 22) they took my money just because I was changing my flight to fly two days earlier. Prior to getting assistance to complete the modifications, I was passed through SEVEN representatives who kept saying "I can't help, I will transfer you to another department"..."sorry the system is slow, another department will help you"... then I was placed on hold for an extend period of time. Basically they are not trained well and they are there to steal money from the consumers with their stupid policies.

Bottom Line: Stay away from Hotwire if you want a peace of mind, to keep your money, and not deal with incompetent idiots in a country they don't care about you.

HotWire: Don't expect "Deep discounts" as their website claims OR Any Customer Service!

I reserved a hotel thru HotWire for 3 persons and paid a total of 74.64.

I have spent the last 2 hours trying to get some sort of service out of their "customer service" people, first of all, the total savings I got was a fantastic total of 2.40 usd which is NOT a "Deep Discount" as their website claims (that is IF I got what I reserved). Once you get ripped off, like I did, and call customer service, they tell you that they guarantee the "Lowest rate on the Internet" which can be as low as 1 cent cheaper and they still claim it's a discounted rate.

Second, I called the Hotel HotWire choose for my reservation just to confirm that they had received my itinerary and the lady told me that I had a HotWire reservation for 1 king bed, then I called HotWire again, and they told me they had a "problem" with the Hotel reservations (or something) and that if I wanted to "upgrade" to a double bed room (which is not an upgrade, it's what I originally paid for) I had to pay an extra 10 usd to the hotel and then mail the receipt to HotWire and eventually HotWire would reimburse me the 10 usd back.

Why do I have to do this? I paid for a double bed room, Hot Wire selects a roachy hotel for me at a fantastic savings of 2.40 usd, and then I STILL have to go to the trouble of paying this Hotel, sending my receipt to HotWire and then I have to wait for the refund? Why? Why the bad service? Why do I have to do all this running around to save 2.40 and get an inferior hotel that I would have never chosen on my own?

I prepaid the hotel for my mom who is old and does not speak English so she would not have to mess with anything and now she'll have to do all this? My goodness! This is just bad all around!

I've used HotWire before with very good results and have highly recommended it to all my friends and family, but after this I will never use HotWire again and will tell this bad experience to everyone who'll listen! This is just wrong!

Will NEVER use HotWire again!

I was a customer for about 5 years and I never had a problem with them until the other day. I booked a hotel through them and they offered two different options there was one rate just for the hotel then there was another rate for the hotel with the breakfast for 2 and that is the one I went with. However arriving to the Hotel the lady mentioned and also confirmed over the phone with myself and Hotwire that the reservation didn't show it came with breakfast in their system. So long story short I didn't get the breakfast at the hotel because I had to pay and additional 12.00 per person and the property confirmed this. I told Hotwire I need to get some credit or my money back for the breakfast that they falsely advertised and I paid for it already and they fully refused. I spoke to about 5 different mangers at Hotwire and they simply told me they will not refund me anything or give me any credit at all. They all treated me like i was crazy. So I paid hotwire 301.50 total shows on my bank statement and the receipt they sent me the total was 289.50 and the hotel would've only charged me 268.00! STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE BOOK DIRECTLY WITHT THE PROPERTY OR EXPEDIA!

Beyond disgusted
September 9, 2018

I booked a room months in advance, when I got to the hotel, there is no sign on the hotel, I walk in there is no front desk, a guy just sitting at a folding table, and there is no lobby. The hotel looked so horrible my uber driver said she did not feel right leaving me there. It is now 1:30am and I am just tired, and I have already paid for a room for 4days. I ask the guy sitting at the table if he was working and proceeded to check in, after he checks my name he says they did not have my reservation made me call hotwire after 3hours on the phone They finally found my reservation I was able to check in. Get into the room the bathroom has mold on the walls, tub is filthy, bed is broken, walls in the room are molded. I leave the room it was not safe at all to inhale the mold. I call hotwire and tell them on their website I booked the Country Inn and Suites, and front desk says the name is the Montgomery Inn. I say I cant stay here im 3000 miles from home and I need another hotel, on their site the hotel I got was not the hotel I was at, the pictures of the room on hotwire were not the rooms at the hotel, and the room has mold. Hotwire tells me they might be able to give me a refund, but I will have to pay for another room. I explained I did not have the funds to pay for another hotel, that they could just apply the money I already paid and give me another hotel. They told me my only option was to pay for another room after speaking with several supervisors the last supervisor said he was hanging up and to stop calling. Since I was 3000 miles from home, I slept in my rental because I did not have the money for another hotel. I advise everyone to never book with hotwire. They lie about the hotels on their website, and customer service is awful!

I must strongly recommend against the use of this application for the following reason.

I purchased a HotRate hotel in Quebec City from Hotwire for check in August 9,2017 and check out August 11,2017. I received a hotel confirmation #*******665 and an itinerary #*******479 for a two nights stay at Le Saint-Pierre.
I did not receive any notifications whatsoever of a problem. When I arrived at Le Saint-Pierre for check in, around 5:45pm, they told me that the hotel was sold out and that they did not have a room for me. We immediately called Hotwire and the recording notified me that my booking status was confirmed. Upon speaking with a Hotwire agent they regretfully informed me that there was a problem but that I would be refunded for both my booking and that once we find a new place to stay I would be fully refunded for my expenses wherever I end up staying as a compensation for this trouble. THIS IS NOT TRUE. They only refunded my original booking and the difference that it cost me to book a new hotel. The biggest problem however is that I was forced to spend 4 hours of my limited time in Quebec City in Le Saint-Pierre's lobby trying to find alternate accommodations and everywhere we called was fully booked. After 4 dreadful hours, a cancellation miraculously appeared at Hotel 71 (Same lobby). This room was of a lower class than I had originally reserved but cost us 311$ more, according to the front desk agent at Le Saint-Pierre. I accepted it in order to put an end to the nightmare of not knowing where I would stay; feeling comfortable with the promise of being fully refunded by Hotwire for anywhere that I might be able to book.

Do yourself a favour and stay far from Hotwire for your future bookings.

I normally only had good experiences, booking through Hotwire. This time was the exact opposite. I got to the hotel a little bit late, but it was if not close to midnight, maybe 5 or ten minutes after. When I got there, the front desk staff was on the phone with hotwire already, and they were actually cancelling my reservation already. I used a prepaid card to book my room for 5 nights, coming to about 444.00 cnd, and so when they had told me that the transaction did not go through, I checked, and there was a pending transaction for hotwire for the amount of my room for 5 days just as there should have been. We ended up just paying the hotel for the night, which was 80$, and just waited till morning to call and ask about the other 444.00 that was pending on the card. When I called in the morning, the agent told me that my booking had been cancelled, due to the transaction not going through, and that I was being issued a refund (is that an oxymoron, or an idiom?... Seriously?) I of course responded by saying that doesn't make any sense and may I please speak to your supervisor. When the supervisor came to the phone, I let them know that if this wasn't figured out by noon, that I would either have to checkout, and because of COVID-19 I wouldn't even be able to go sit in a restaurant. The supervisor told me that they would put a note that the request was urgent, but that the transaction team would be contacting me by either/or by email or my phone number. Well, it's 9:35 pm, and I have not heard anything from the transaction team, and not only that but I have phoned twice already this evening after 8pm, and both phone calls lead me nowhere. The first time the call just started beeping and dropped, the second I was transferred to a menu that asked if I needed my booking reconfirmed and otherwise led me absolutely nowhere but to a electronic message.
I am so horrified at the customer service representatives of hotwire, and how they have treated us during a time that's already stressful for us all, but they couldn't even have been bothered to even deal with the situation at all. I will definitely never be booking with them again and I would be even more inclined to highly NOT recommend booking with them yourselves.

I booked a 2 day car rental out of Phoenix AZ through Hotwire for September 22 starting and returning it September 24. I guess the total charge was supposed to be $175.11, which is hardly your claim to fame at $40.00 per day! You advertise lower prices, but when you're DONE you are still paying $87.00 a day!
Bait and Switch and ADD ONS!
When we came in to pick up the car it took forever to get out of there! Plus that Phoenix location looks very sketchy. If I would have been alone in the evening I would have left immediately! Another family was there picking up their car and we were talking about the location, they said they were there about 2 years prior and the place looks the exact same way! NU Car it's time to invest in making your pick up locations, not look like you're walking into a closed up business, in a poor area of town!

Now why am I writing this... I returned that car 1 day, plus a few hours early! You have the audacity to charge me for BOTH DAYS! SO WHAT YOU (HOTWIRE) CHARGED ME FOR (ONE) DAY CAR RENTAL WAS $175.11! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I EXPECT A REFUND FOR 1 DAY!

THEN NU CAR... I RETURNED THAT CAR BACK SPOTLESS, YOU WOULD NOT EVEN HAD TO CLEAN IT! I TRIED TO FILL UP IN GAS AT A STATION ONE BLOCK FROM YOU, THEIR PUMPS WERE DOWN. I REALLY WAS UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING AROUND THE HOOD, LOOKING FOR GAS. I TOLD THE GIRL CHECKING MY CAR BACK IN THAT THE PUMPS WERE DOWN... SHE DID NOT GIVE A CRAP! SHE SAID THE CHARGE WAS $9.99 PER GALLON! ARE YOU KIDDING ME... TALK ABOUT STICKING IT TO PEOPLE! I ONLY NEEDED ONE HALF A TANK, ON A SMALL CAR AND NU CAR HAD THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE ME $63.61 (MORE) DOLLARS!

SO MY (ONE) DAY CAR RENTAL USING HOTWIRE AND NU CAR RENTAL COST ME $238.72... FOR ONE DAY!
