While porting one of my websites to my existing account with hostgator, my ported website somehow ended up in a separate business plan (meaning additional hundreds of dollars). Unfortunately I didn't notice that until many months later (I was on multi-year billing plan). When I asked hostgator about this they said there was not anything they could do about it because of "policy." I finally got it escalated to the "admins" who would not communicate with me directly. They just reviewed the front-end communicate and sent me an email saying they couldn't do anything. In the meantime, my other business plan was renewed for three years without a notification. They say they sent the notification, and maybe they did, but it was not in my inbox or spam (and this has happened multiple times where there hypothetical notifications do not show up on my end). Even just after a few weeks they again said they could not cancel or refund the plan because it was already charged. Can't or won't? I think that's obvious. The admins again made no effort to talk to me directly. They just send out their front end people who have no power to do anything except say what they are supposed to say, and the admins hide behind their electronic screens. I've never experienced such poor customer service in this type of situation. I'll be moving to another host that communicates with customers and gives them the benefit of the doubt.
For the last decade or more, I had 8 companies hosted through hostgator. Over the years I sold or closed the companies, am down to one now.
I kept trying to downgrade to a lesser plan, it was tough. I canceled the auto renew and waited a year.
When I got the email about a year later letting me know the renewal was due, I contacted support, they happily downgraded my plan, I paid for three years hosting upfront.
Then hell broke loose.
I could not access my company's email addresses, and the website went down. Contacted support, to migrate the data, or turn it back on (I'm not a techy) Hostgaor asked $150 for each email address and $100 for the website - or vise versa. After downgrading my plan, Hostgator asked for around $600 in ransom fees, ethically I could not stomach that. I did not want to be associated with a company who treated their long term customers this poorly.
After several "chats" I finally asked the smart question, "if I go back to the higher plan, can I get my data back without paying the ransom." They said yes! So went back to the old plan... three weeks and many chats later, I got my email addresses/data/emails back and the website working again.
It is short-sighted to treat a decades long customer this poorly. After 6 weeks of hassel, Hostgator fueled my drive to switch hosting companies.
After I type in my domain name, it usually takes about, on average, 8 to 20 seconds for my website to load up on my computer screen. It is much slower than I had expected. Right now, it is just me building the site, so it not a big problem. But later when I go public and get more visitors from the internet, I do not know what will happen. This has always been a concern (worry) to me.

Site was down, so contacted hostgator who resolved my issue
The Dashboard of my WP website kept saying that PHP number must be above 7.3. After three or four calls to HostGator, each time a tech crew making changes to the PHP number, WP still showed the same warning. Finally, I tried myself to change the number by following the instructions on Cpanel. However, the choice didn't include the number 7.4 which I needed. So, I chose 8.1, the smallest in the list. That ended up messing up my site, and I panicked. WP support told me I needed contact Hostgator.
So, I did. Someone on the tec crew worked on the problem, and a few minutes later, my website came alive again! Thank you so much.
No comments. All went well. Need to go in and figure out how to make the images mobile friendly but I think that is theme related. Many thanks.
Customer service rep was helpful in resolving my issue. I had called a few times and had gotten no results. Then in the last call, the agent was able to fully resolve my issue.
All good so far. No issue. Happy to use it since years. Will continue using it
This is a very good platform to hosting and managing your site. Easy to use and very able and willing support team to handle issues whenever your reach out. Super pleased with your services.
I didn't get a refund but I understood what the customer care agent said.
I have never had any issues with Hostgator. Their dashboard and features are user-friendly and require minimal technical knowledge to make changes. I am very satisfied with being their customer for such a long time.
Easy to use, no hassle and very convenient, this is why i choose hostgator
Support has helped us with any issues that show up. We are happy.
Overall experience is nice. Whenever I reached out to the technical team for any help, they took quick initiative to resolve them.
Would be nice if you guys helped with web site design but you don't
Over the past two weeks, I have contacted Hostgator, and both times, I was pleasantly served. I explained my lack of knowledge in this matter, and they took care of me quickly.
The assistant was very good helping me with my issue. She was patient working through an issue that ended up to be on my internet provider side.
Good experience, great tech. I wish you would notify when services are going to be terminated and had a better login experience.
Everything was so easy setting up and building the website with Wordpress was easy also. Unfortunately I did the site for an organization that doesn't use it much and will not be renewing the domain name or the hosting space.
Everything is fine, our web is live. We haven't had any issue this 2024 with our Web. I remember last year, we have a problem with a ban, and through the Help Center chat and a pacient tecnician we were able to sort out what the problem was and in a couple of hours solve it.
Answer: Do not know something similar. Actually Hostgator is one of its kind! Partners of mine use Hostgator, too!
Answer: If you go straight to smartchat, it is very easy - you only need to find the smartchat button. I have worked with the Internet since web browsers were invented, so I know most of the answers already. That means that when I have a problem that I can't solve, it is going to be a real stinker for HostGator support to solve - I only bring them the difficult ones. Recently, I had an ISP who gave me terrible service, and the internet kept dropping out every few minutes. The Hostgator smartchat expert kept contact with me on and of for about an hour and three quarters until he had worked out the answer for me. That is what I call RELIABLE service.
