HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I do not recommend Home Advisor to anybody or any contractors. They are total scammers. They are full of lies and steal your money. Watch out, do not give them your credit card number or else you will be ripped off of your account in less than a month. The leads they offer cost $87 per lead. When you contact with home owners and go to check out the job.The job was only to fix four bathroom tiles, which will not cost more than $50 to do the job. But they already charge you $87. I spent so far with them 1,100. I haven't made not even a single dollar for me.The leads they send you are not serious jobs. They just try to get your money When you ask them to get your credit back they proclaim that they cannot refond credit. If you get some calls from them just ignore their calls. If you don't like throwing money away for no reason I do not recommend this company to anybody.

Signing up with HomeAdvisor has literally been the worst business decision I've ever made! They lie, don't give you credit when they say they will, send bogus leads but charge charge charge your credit card! You get a lead that is also sent to several other contractors and then it's a race to call the potential customer! All the contractors get changed the lead fee whether youbtalk to the customer or not. I had one "lead" from a woman looking for a job and she only spoke Spanish. She wasn't even in America! And they still would not give me the money back because when they call the number provided, no one answers! Are you kidding me? They probably sent this bogus information to 5 ppl, chanred $40 to each person, and won't give anyone their money back. The worst business practice ever unless they are in the business to scam small business owners, which is exactly what they are doing! Small business owners, STAY AWAY! I'm going to the BBB and seeing how I can get in on this class action lawsuit against them! I advise you do the same if you have been robbed like me!

Worst Business Ever
December 16, 2018

I wasn't going to even bother with writing about my absolutely horrible experience with Home Advisor, but they won't leave me alone, so here it is. I signed my company up with them shortly after I went into business. I didn't care for their terrible standard operating procedures, so I canceled my membership within 4 months of paying for it. 2 months later, I receive a threatening letter about paying for charges incurred AFTER I canceled. I called them to straighten it out, but surprise-surprise, they suck at straightening things out. I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with them and at the end of the phone call, I was assured that my account had been canceled, "we're sorry, blah blah blah". I considered that the end of things and went on my way. To this day, I am STILL receiving unsolicited leads on an account that is supposed to be disabled/inactive/canceled/dead. To say I'm frustrated would be a gross understatement. At this point, I probably have high blood pressure due their incompetence. I can't fathom how they remain in business. If you are a small business owner in the construction or home improvement industry, do not - I repeat - DO NOT waste your time or your money with these fools. There's a reason why you can't leave a Google review about them.

Homeadvisor is a SCAM
December 16, 2018

I am an architect. I thought it would be a way to get more leads on jobs, but it turned out to be poor leads and charges for leads I didn't want. After a week, I was charged almost $500 in 3 days for leads I did not want and did not even realize I was being charged. They fail to tell you how their system works, over charge, and don't refund.

Beware of this scam! I've been a pro customer for two years, and had my leads off for the last year. They can only turn off your leads for three months IF you can even get someone on the phone to do that. Customer service hold times are a joke! But they WILL answer right away when they think you are a customer calling for services... this IS the only way you will reach someone. Customer service reps are rude most of the time and always tell you that they are number one when you have a complaint. You can just read through all other complaints about leads because they are true. This company steals your hard earned money anyway they can.
I know this from the other prospective as well. I had an email from Sears about windows, I clicked on it because at the time I needed windows. I thought I'd see what deals Sears was having for windows at the time. Next thing I know, I'm getting all these calls from window companies trying to schedule me for an estimate! I didn't go to the HomeAdvisor website and request this! I had to tell these companies that they better ask HomeAdvisor for their money back because I did not request the service! They will do anything to get a part of the money to include not answering their customer service line and sneaking your info to other companies to send leads out and collect money.

This company is a sham. Do not do business with them. They continue to try to charge my
Credit card after their service was canceled. Also, we did not receive any business from their service. Any calls we did get were from homeowners wanting free estimates. What a waste of time and money.

Home Advisor
December 13, 2018

Very flaky company. Don't trust their advise as they don't check out their contactors. Lie, Lie, Lie! That they are good at! Was a contractor that has used Home Adviser's leads. After being lied to by their sales person I told them I wasn't interested. They told me it was too late to quit and I couldn't get a refund. So since they lied. I called my credit card company and disputed the charges. They then told me I would be turned over to collection. I said go ahead I won't be blackmailed. After a few weeks of posting on Sitejabber they called apologizing and said they are issuing a credit. Thanks Sitejabber. Now... the S. O. B.'s are calling people with my cell # showing up. When I googled their ph.# Wow big surprise... Class action law suits etc, etc., etc. I should take them to court for FRAUD! They don't do anything they say, i. E. check references or insurance. Just a flaky company scamming people. STAY AWAY! If I could post negative numbers I would!

Terrible Referrals
December 10, 2018

I don't recommend using Home Advisor for servicing properties or any other services relating to home needs.

Pros: It is like a one stop shop where your information is shared to all contractors for services.

Cons: Most of the contractors in Home Adviosr are new in business. They are just marketing themselves. Some contractors aren't even licensed in that field but is just practicing business under a business name. After using two of the referrals sent from Home Adviosr listing I felt used.
When I called to make a complaint with Home Advisor customer support, I learned that Home Advisor does not do a thorough background check on there contractors nor do they require proof of licenses or certificates unless it is State required. Being that the contractors are being charge a handsome membership fee, some of those contractors turnsaround and charge the customer upon the day of appointment to recover there losses. Which is unethical because they should have informed the customer of any related fees upfront. In the future, I prefer speaking with an actual company for my home service needs.

I signed up for Home Advisor pro, paid my $288.00 annual fee and got approved. I started receiving calls and emails immediately but they did not tell me that when you get a call from home advisor that you get charged for that lead. Then I received 2 leads which I did try to make contact with the customer by calling and sending them a text. I never talked to the customer but I sure got charged for it. I called home advisor and tried to get a credit since I never got to talk to the customer, but they would not credit me for that. I would not have given even 1 star but I had to. This is a horrible decision I wish I never made.

Home adviser sucks
December 3, 2018

STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE, I truly wish I had read these reviews before I signed up like most here I was lied to from the start. Fake leads, i truly believe they use robocallers to generate these leads. How many people out there don't have voice mail? Of the 24 leads i had 22 that the phone just rang like 15 times then discontented cost me 575.00 got nothing. Canceled my account call the CC company and got a block on them.
Maybe we should all get together and file a class action lawsuit, for scamming good honest folk

Never again!
December 2, 2018

We signed up with Home Advisor to receive leads for our Green Cleaning Company. We were told that we will be charged for the leads that accepted our inquiry. The leads kept coming but they never answered when we called them to get their business.
Then came the credit card bill. 1543. 00 in 3 weeks for leads we did not get. I spoke to customer service and followed up with an email. That was 5 days ago and still no resolution. Place an ad in your local paper, canvass the neighborhood and talk to real people. That's my advice!

AVOID HOME ADISOR!
December 2, 2018

As a contractor we only used this service to generate leads for less then 2 months in which time they seemed to drain our pocketbook! The worst ROI we have ever experienced and we have been in business for over 25 years.
Leads turned out to be false, no refunds have ever been issued, complete run around when asking for management. Was basically told we don't need your business we tried to get answers to our questions. Now as of today they are threatening to send us to collections because I stopped payment for services not provided. I wish we had taken a more comprehensive research review approach before we had signed up with them. Total Scam Company and their reviews prove this, not to mention law suits pending. AVOID

Signed up and from that moment on it was nothing but lies after lies! They could even define the type of work I do as I did not have the proper license? So they randomly threw me in a different field! I would stay far away from these ppl or scam artists as I would call them, and did not give them your credit card number whatsoever!

We are a small business, we thought if we used a site like HomeAdvisor, it would help grow our company. Unfortunately, it only put us in the poor house. HomeAdvisor states they send the business leads to potential customers, however what they truly do is charge the card you have given them regardless if you have accepted the lead or not. They have sneaky ways of charging your card as well. They text or email you with a lead and if you don't respond within a very short-period of time the lead disappears, as does the money from your account.
When you call to place the leads on hold, they may or may not do so and they will continue to charge your card, even if you don't accept the leads. When you call to complain, they do nothing.
The sales tactics are more like SCARE tactics. They say things like, "I have a buddy that uses our business and he's doing really well", "we don't understand why you aren't getting business". We have been so specific about our location of business, and they continue to ignore. We explain that it doesn't make good business sense to do bids 100 miles away from our location, and they continue to ignore.
We canceled our service with Home Advisor and will encourage other small business to do the same. Word or Mouth, Placing ads in the local paper seems to work better than this rip off company!
