HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Questions & Answers

My husband is thinking of signing up with Home Advisor. Do you have to pay home advisor for every lead you get from them even if you do not end up getting the job? Do you only pay HomeAdvisor if you make contact with the customer? How much do you pay per lead, and how is that number figured? Is it a percentage of the cost of the job? thx

We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.

Don't! They took me for over $300. Yes you pay for every lead. They lie. They needed me dry in leads that were supposed to cost $4 per lead with a cap of $50.00 per month. They inundated me with phoney leads and charged my credit card $512.00 for one week! When I disputed the charges, they threatened to send me to collections if I did not pay. I managed to get hold of a manager named Mark who issued me a credit of $169.00 and cancelled my membership. I requested to have my information removed from their data base so that my business number would show up in a Google search instead of theirs. The reviews are also phony. I called to thank one of my clients for the glowing review and although they were satisfied, they said they did not leave a review, which makes sense since my client's name was misspelled (I'm pretty sure my client knows how to spell their own name) Home Advisor is phoney baloney. They cost me over $300.00 and I find them to be an unethical company.

Buyer be ware! I belong to HomeAdvisor. They definitely get me a lot of leads, but sometime too many. You have to be very careful about the zip codes and tasks you pick. They will stir you into too many. Then you get a lot of leads for small work, far away. Also, getting credits, is almost impossible. I have my profile set for a maximum of $500 in lead fees in any 7 day window. The last time I turned my leads on I received over a $1000 in charges in 4 days and I am still fitting to get credits.

Total ripoff. Avoid them at all cost. In the beginning they tell you that your lead payment will be refunded if you don't get the job but then you find out that you pay for every lead you accept wether you get to contact customer or not, or wether you get the job or not. Problem is, you only get the customer information if you accept the lead. Bottom line is, you keep paying without getting a pay day. Beware.

Do not sign up with them! I have had the same experience that most others have. Leads that are outside my service area and unqualified leads. Over the year that my account has been opened less than 30% of the leads I paid for were actually viable.

STAY AWAY- they take your $287 membership fee then send bogus leads. They called us claiming to have 12 jobs in our area. Never received one legit lead, then the rep would not answer his phone nor return my texts. 3 ppl refused to refund our money - now they have sold our info to spammers/scammers. I am texting now with 19 others in a group text from spammer several who say they were all scammed.

We have been with HA for 4 years. Yes, you will pay even if the customer does not respond to you when you try to call, text or email them. The only way you get a credit is if they put in wrong contact information and it can be verified. We pay per lead, we do not do a membership. The cost is variable. It depends on the service you offer. We are electrical, so a plug outlet is cheaper than a panel. So if you decide to: research the different cost per lead in your area. Some are a different price in different zip codes for the same service. As already stated by other reviews, it can be frustrating to deal with them, but overall we have made the most off of the leads we have gotten from them. You definitely have to stay on top of it, or you could loss a lot of money.

Don't do it! As mentioned by others,
They only provide a name and phone number and bill your CREDIT card based on lead size. I am a contractor for 40 years and have been solicited by others who provide leads and this type of marketing is not recommended. I was given NON Quailified leads by HomeAdvisor, I won the battle because I was a step ahead of them. Previously a company SERVICE MAGIC, had burned other contractors I know, they warned me of the type of scam this company runs. You don't know if your paying for someone's cousins uncles brother for a lead, if you know what I mean.
Save yourself the grief
DON'T DO IT!

RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM HOME ADIVISOR! THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY I have ever used! They kept $150.00 from me because I didn't know that one of their contacts was coming so I couldn't use him at that time. He never called, emailed me about him coming. When I asked him why he didn't contact me he just said that he was bad at contacting his clients. So they said the $150.00 was to pay him and for the contract that I had with them. I am sure he maybe got $40.00 for his gas and the company kept the rest. I no longer have a contract with them or any other company like them.

YES you pay for every lead regardless if you close the deal or not. Most people are looking for prices. They give everyone the same job lead and get paid off every single lead they send out. YOU PAY regardless if you contact the customer or not. AS soon as they send you a lead, its an attached fee. HOPE YOUR CLOSING SKILLS ARE UP TO PAR. Otherwise you'll go broke. They are on time with deductions from your account.

Dont do it. Leads vary in price, but they will figure out how to bilk you for all they can get, bad leads, scammers, bad credit policy, window shoppers. Perhaps 1 in 5 leads you pay for is actually a real customer

They charge you BY the job, they give it to multiple contractors, and they have a RIDICULOUS refund policy that only works to their advantage. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! You'd have better luck handing out flyers or having neighborhoods canvassed. They decline you're refund requests at every opportunity! Even for a DISCONNECTED number I've had this happen!

Do not use HomeAdvisor! I had money taken from my account for leads I never responded to and my leads were paused during this time. This put me in a very bad position financially. And all HomeAdvisor wanted to do was offer me a credit. Bills that need to be paid don't want to hear about a credit! They want their money!
I immediately canceled my account with them and filed a complaint with the BBB.

Don't! You pay an annual fee, you pay per "lead" whether you do the work or not. They will harass the ever loving sanity out of you. We canceled after a week and "leads" over 100 miles away! My advice, run ads in local newspaper.

They charge you no matter what lead you get, wether you get the job or not. They set my account up wrong and charged me for leads that were for out of state work and refused to refund me any money. I DO NOT recommend them at all

You WILL pay for all trash leads what you received. All!
No matter of what. They will not give you back your money. Record all phone conversation and screenshot emails from them, this will Help You in court
