Been using GoDaddy for 15 years, have 5 accounts in various ltd company names, with over 200 domains registered. Plus, rather embarrassingly I've even recommended GoDaddy to friends over the years.

Here is my story.

At GoDaddy, my Domains have always renewed at around £10-£15 per year. Always been the case since 2004. Suddenly, from April 2019 they've been charging me £45.70 to renew! No warning just took the money, GoDaddy absolutely cannot be trusted and am now in the process of moving 200 domains to their competitors.

It's disgusting business practice and I wasted a lot of my time (6 phone calls) trying to figure out how they are getting away with scamming people well over double the renewal cost. The "service" they added was "Ultimate Domain Protection and Security" (£26.38), i did NOT consent to useless service. They said down the phone they sent me an email to add this service. REALLY? There was no such email. If they did it doesn't matter as it obviously wasn't clear enough, i have 200 domains, don't think I would have missed it

So to make this clear, they opted me in to a service I didn't want. A service which would have added over £5000 per year in charges! It makes my blood boil, and I'm so angry writing this. Luckily, I noticed this scam fairly early when looking at my bank statements, so I lost out on around £200. I guess I got of lightly considering. Of course, they are refusing to refund me any charges more than 28 days old. It doesn't matter to them that I DIDN'T PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT IN THE FIRST PLACE! Would a legit business just charge the customer for the service they didn't order?

My case is NOT unique, like I said I have 5 GoDaddy accounts, same thing happened to all of them since April 2019.

This is a money-making scheme for GoDaddy, very likely created to cover their losses since their domain privacy service become void with GDPR.

GoDaddy are treading a very fine line, no in fact they've crossed the line. I have no doubt what they are doing here is completely illegal, and sooner or later it will catch up to them. I wish them every failure moving forward. My advice do not use GoDaddy for any reason.

Have never had a problem as bad as with GoDaddy. The customer service is not great and they are acting unethically. On 07-04-2023 an order was placed on my website for a doll with the payment method as being a credit card. I fulfilled the order, shipped it, and it was received by the buyer on July 10th 2023. On Saturday July 22, I was informed that the buyer disputed the purchase with their credit card company or bank. GoDaddy informed me to furnish proof of the transaction, which I did through email the same day. I was informed the money would be taken out of my account. Why? The dispute is being reviewed and now I am disputing it. So it makes no sense to take the money I earned. As of today, the money is in the process of being taken from my account in the amount of $157.99 AND I am without a doll. This person is either scamming me or used a stolen credit card, which has nothing to do with me. I was then informed that due to this chargeback, they were dropping me as a customer! I am a legitimate small business owner just trying to make a living. I called GoDaddy on July 22 and after explaining my situation, I was hung up on. Then I called back and was left on hold for 45 minutes purposely. I cannot reach anyone. I have tried emailing and I am getting ignored. So, I've been scammed by a consumer and GoDaddy! I can't use my website and I'm paid through February of 2024! A more than fair resolution is for me to keep my $157.99 since I fulfilled my end and I am out a doll. I also would like GoDaddy to pay out the remainder of my subscription since I can't use my website! They will not allow me to even delete my payment information in my account. I keep tuning off auto renewal and somehow it keeps getting turned back on. This is atrocious. GoDaddy is the worst company I have ever used for anything.

RUN RUN RUN, GODADDY IS A SCAM COMPANY, NEVER BUY A PREMIUM DOMAIN FROM THEM.
RUN, RUN, RUN as fast as you can!

This must be the biggest SCAM I every had. If you read this review and still get scammed, it would really be a shame that you fell for their big name.

Never ever make a mistake buying a domain from Godaddy, They are thieves and can digest your premium domain, I have a premium domain on my business website with massive SEO traffic on it, I had invested Thousands of $ in 3 years in regard to SEO of that domain, the domain is under my ownership since 2019 and out of the blue I got an email that my website is under some malware attack and we are suspending your domain.

I had a word with the support and they assured me that you can access to your domain within 72 hours. I got another email after 72 hours that we have permanently deleted your domain without any reason and justification.

They have pathetic customer support, they don't respond on chat and on call. One of the worst companies I have ever encountered.

I am a domain collector and moving all my 100s domains to a better company, I can't risk my domains with such an unworthy company.

Just like any small business can relate, paying accounts is virtually impossible if your clients havent paid there's. When I looked up what my options with GD I must say I was very surprised and almost relieved when I read Godaddy's pledge to small businesses which is "#OpenWeStand" However when I called it couldn't be further than the truth. My website is deleted and my account was blocked it was like pulling teeth to be given the kind of grace they speak of in there article https://au.godaddy.com/open-we-stand/what-godaddy-is-doing Basically I have been given 2 weeks to come up with $3,000 and they still wont tell me why my businesses website was deleted even though the expiry date they have on the account is the first i've seen. After being a customer for over 2 years and have even got a secondary account with another provider for this very reason, to say I was disgraced is an understatement. It's simply not consolable to be pledging #OpenWeStand, Ive been given more compassion from a new vendor than that of Go Daddy who by the way made a staggering $2.98 BILLION last year. It's it any wonder they are profiteering of the back of struggling hard working small business owners who they refuse to keep their word to. Im sure the ACCC will be very happy to take on my complaint tomorrow. How are we supposed to re open Melbourne when we are being robbed by offshore greed driven corporations like Go Daddy. Long story short - If your business is in Australia then shop local. Where did the human element go in business? So wrong on so many levels. And one more thing Go Daddy. You do need a dedicated inbox for complaints and by law you should be displaying one. With love from yet another underwhelmed customer that you do not deserve to profit from. GoDaddy, step up and respond to your customers!

We bought a service from Go Daddy to protect our site ( Firewall), and our site is suspended by Google every week; hackers are putting Malware on the site weekly, and Go Daddy and its FireWall can not do anything. Not only that, it is more shocking that Google informed us that the site has Malware, and they suspended us when we advised Go Daddy first, they said no, there is no malware on your site, and our firewall on our account showed GREEN means the website was clean and protected. When they look carefully, they say yes, it is Malware. This is for the 3rd time right now, and they cleaned the site and sent a notice to us, and when we contacted Google and informed them, Google said WRONG, your site still has Malware, and we went back to Go Daddy, and they cleaned again. Our life is on hold now, and no one in Godaddy is giving a clear answer.

Go Ddaddy firewall means website security is NOT PROTECTING ANY WEBSITE. Not only that, it is showing +A GREEN means the web is clean and protected, and there is no problem, and this is when the site is suspended by Google! Not only do they not protect your website, they even do not detect Malware. SHAME

They Are Not Website Builders
February 14, 2023

In December 2022, I signed up with Godaddy thinking that since they are one of the top domain providers, they would be able to provide me with a fun, new, modern exciting site for my company. Instead, past the deadline (January 27th-45 days from when I paid), I am on the phone arguing with one, Nicholas Dean (very rude, might I add), stating they are willing to give me 30% of a refund (the design Fee which is $1199, so I will be getting back $359.70 because it was over 30 days from the day I signed on) because of work that was done or I can choose to restart the website design process. I almost cried if you guys could only see the edits they sent me. Every time, I told them I was not satisfied and what I would like to see the site look like, and every time, they gave me not only the same work from before but also the work I used to do in my high school computer class. Now I am led to believe that they systematically set up these appointments (as you are not aware of this refund policy clause) so that you lose out on your money and they can give you any old design, and even if you are not satisfied, you are still out $700+. Honestly, I should have fired them after the first edit, like, you know what, never mind; I should have given the young kid on Fiver the $1500 that I had to spend on the website in the first place. I went on GoDaddy and found that instead of paying these "website designers" $2,600, you could pay a small portion of that and create a beautiful design yourself, at your own pace, and not bother with their (quote unquote) "Website Design Team." or you could hire a creating freelancer from Fiver who is all of your money back if satisfaction is not guaranteed. These people mean to tell me they are paying them hourly to hand in lackluster, high school-grade websites. Who is their editor, and why do they have no creativity and website design swag? I spoke to people between the appointments; one guy said he was the overseer of the team, and we were on a zoom meeting sharing the screen and all. Next week I got back the same edit, and I was floored. I gave them one last chance, and of course, they came back with the same crap that was made for me with the team, and it seemed like no one ever listened to my concerns. Godaddy needs to stick to just providing domains and use their website design services at your own risk; it will be like donating to a high school computer class because you will not get quality work. Then back to Nicholas Dean. There is a script they are reading to tell you they are not going to give you the refund you deserve and that they are taking your money because several edits have been made. After each offer, I told him why I did not think that was a fair turnaround for the matter, but he gets upset when you disrupt his script and is all like you won't even let me get through the options, like the last option was to give me all of my money back.

Buyer beware - There are many, good alternatives
January 17, 2023

Beware of Godaddy - They are bottom rung

Nine years ago, when I started using Godaddy, I thought their pricing and support were exceptional. However, as they have grown, they have completely lost their way.

I was hosting my company site with Godaddy, and not being a pro, I thought everything was the same as any other service. Then I noticed prices going up on all the offerings and these "auto renewals" on so called "services" I never knew I had or for "free" services that were auto-renewing with charges.
Then the email changed.

When I began with Godaddy, each domain would come with an email address. In November, that changed with my notification that all emails were switching to 365 and I would have to now pay for them. So my domain renewals were going up significantly, while they were also changing the terms of what came with them. Even the emails I paid for (for my business) were changing, including a significant price increase. Along with this, was the extensive work of backing up all of my emails, changing them over, and repopulating/reformatting each email (over 30). This was a change from a little over $100 per year to over $200 per month.

This had me closely examine my entire Godaddy account. With hosting and over 150 domain names, I was not a small customer for Godaddy. I found crazy "services" and charges that I had no idea of what they were. Two in particular stuck out: Godaddy had auto-renewed my hosting for three years (there is NO way I would have done that purposely) and they were charging $256 per year for SSL certificates - a $57 increase. I then read that SSL certificates were FREE with my hosting plan. But when I called, I was told that that was only for "NEW" customers. The NEXT DAY! The SSL auto-renewed even though the account stated that auto-renew would not come up for another 61 days! I had to call three times (one disconnect) to get refunded (the first time said no problem then I get an email saying they couldn't do it). The third time I threatened legal action.

I moved my hosting and requested a refund for the two years left on a hosting plan that I did not agree to, but that was a waste of 35 minutes.

There are many good and reasonable opinions on reddit for web services. If you choose to do business with Godaddy, you have been warned.

Where do I start? If you're suckered in by the "low" cost of their domains, think again. The renewal is far more than what the initial price is. It's normal for the price to go up a little, but not this much. My advice would be to turn renewals off and transfer your domains out ASAP. As an example of the price gauging is my.net domain, with privacy GoDaddy auto-renewed the domain for $110, the price with CloudFlare was around $33 as a comparison.
As I attempted to transfer domains, some would work, some wouldn't. The error? A vague "There was an error processing your request. Please try again. If the error continues contact support at (02) xxxx xxxx.". I verified that everything on my side was fine. After trying to work around calling the number, which is always a massive delay, I figured it was time to make the call. Investigating into the actual error from the server (not just the front-end), it confirmed the issue was on their end. A 500 "Internal Server Error" performing a standard task on their site. It's probably a great (for them) business strategy, as not answering the phone and not allowing transfers of domains out, the user is forced to pay the higher price. I'll be advising the ACCC for their input on this practice to ensure it's given adequate attention.
After 70 minutes on hold, listening to the same basic 4 chord tune every minute or so, I was beginning to wonder why I would have ever paid a premium price for domains has I known the support was so below zero.
First of all, I'm only calling them because the website is so poor that it is unable to provide an error message of any substance that I can use to solve the problem myself.
Eventually getting through, the level one support rep had to keep putting me on hold - my request was far beyond the "my password doesn't work" requests typically assigned to 1st level. GoDaddy tech support told the rep to ask me to email them at an internal only email address. I didn't know this until the email bounced stating as such. By now, my frustrations are at 100/10.
After 4 hours in total, I'm still at the mercy of GoDaddy support. Will they call back as promised? My expectations are low.
What would I do differently next time? I would find another provider - their domains are easy to buy, but good luck trying to transfer them out. There are many other providers for domains, my choice was CloudFlare and Google domains in the end. This company will waste your money and worst of all your time.

I ended up getting my domains transferred out after spending hours on the task. It took weeks to do a simple task. After a few weeks, I received an email telling me one of my domains will be auto-renewed. This was a problem as the domain had auto-renewal turned off and I had it with another provider. Subsequent queries to GoDaddy around clarification have been ignored and met with silence.

I've lost so much business because of their ridiculous 'upgrade' that I had absolutely no choice in or was even aware of until I began losing business. It took about 3 - 4 weeks before I noticed I was not receiving any emails from my site (I used to get anywhere from 3-8 / week depending). So, now that I don't have any business keeping me busy, I now have the time to research the problem and to write this review. Here's what I've found: GoDaddy changed my website's functionality by redirecting the link from the 'Request a Quote/Contact Us' link that used to send the forms to my email address to now sending them to some stupid Conversations App that, get this - in ONLY AVAILABLE on iPHONE/iOS devices. I have a Samsung, so guess what my options are - NONE. They've changed the functionality without asking or telling me. They did it before being completely capable of using their app on both android and iOS devices and they seem completely incapable of fixing it so now I'm continuing to lose business. The support desk kept me on the phone for 2 hours! And in the end said - well it's going to take 90 min - 24 hours before you see the change on your end but it looks good on our end - 3rd time I was told it was fixed and it's the 3rd time they were wrong. ABSOLUTELY NO HELP and have COST ME BUSINESS and is the direct result for LOST REVENUE.
Save yourself time, money and frustration and invest in a better website builder that will allow you to control your own site without them messing with it WITHOUT your permission or even communication regarding same.
I have two businesses. I've already removed one from GoDaddy, looks like I'll be doing the same for this 2nd one.

I am not familiar with computers, websites or WordPress. I purchased a domain through GoDaddy, hired a tech and had a website developed by a tech I found online. Long story short, I know nothing about website development. My error was that after the website was complete l, and $1200 spent on the website, the tech hijacked the website to namecheap and wanted an additional $500 to transfer it back. HE WAS TRYING TO GET ADDITIONAL MONEY AFTER I PAID HIM $1200. I found out the company that it was transferred to was namecheap. I got in touch with them they investigated the situation after I sent them proof of not only my ownership information, but asked them to call the phone number, my number which was still on the website. They called and I answered. The representative from namecheap was so helpful and told me that she would send me an email with instructions on how to get the domain and website back. Basically they asked GODADDY to send them a request and they would transfer it back. GODADDY REFUSED. They said they weren't going to get involved in a "civil matter" and told me to hire an attorney and sue the person in question. I found out that THEY ARE LOCATED IN BANGLADESH! I followed up with GODADDY and they JUST RE FORWARDED the initial email telling me to hire a lawyer. THIS IS AFTER NAMECHEAP VERIFIED MY INFORMATION AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD TRANSFER IT BACK. GODADDY REFUSED to help me! I am older and not familiar with the process of putting websites together. I trusted GoDaddy, but when it came time to TRULY help one of their customers, I WAS SHOCKED... BECAUSE THEY SAID NO. But I believe in Karma both in life and in business. I will not stop until my message reaches as many people as possible. STAY AWAY FROM GODADDY!
