I was online looking at an Embassy Suites website looking to reserve a room a weekend in May. I was unknowingly redirected to a third party website www.getaroom.com. The scary thing is the page didn't change other than to go to the page to select the dates of my stay. I looked at room rates and selected a room. I was then given a tentative reservation. The website never disclosed fees and taxes and certainly never had a place to check to accept terms and conditions. I then realize they had FRAUDULENTLY charged my debit card twice for the same reservation. The taxes and fees were ridiculous. I called immediately when I saw the pending FRAUDULENT charges and asked for a full refund of BOTH CHARGES. I explained to the very rude customer service agent that I never booked two rooms for the same weekend. He explained to me that I would not receive a refund. I then said to him you STOLE my debit card information and charged me twice. The only response from him was that I was being recorded. I said good! I have since filed an official complaint with the Texas Attorney General, and the local Dallas, TX BBB and my local bank is also investigating these FRAUDULENT activities. The enormous number of negative reviews along with the amount of money they stole from others under the same circumstances is criminal. This company should not be allowed to operate online or locally. Here is the breakdown of what they owe me. Two rooms totaling 1,291.26. I will not stop until I get a FULL REFUND. Not only was money stolen from me I did not have a reservation matching any of the reservation numbers they sent me. This company MUST BE STOPPED!

Getaroom resolved the following issue quickly and I received a refund
I went on the Choice hotel website and it transferred me to a third party reservation agentGetaroom. I am a senior and was so confused by the agent. I really did not understand that I had been redirected to a third party. I was incredibly confused and if the recorded conversation was replayed, I'm sure that my confusion would be audible. Nevertheless, we were driving to SC and made a reservation to stay at a hotel midway but ended up evacuating due to hurricane Dorian and had to cancel and rebook my reservation. I tried to get a live agent on the phone to cancel through Getaroom but it took me about 30-45 minutes which was just after the cancellation time of 12:00. The 2nd agent I spoke to was polite but still a little confusing and I had to stop her several times because I didn't understand. She felt confident that they would review my case and refund my money. They charged my card on 9/3 and it is 9/12 and they have not reviewed my case. I rebooked my room through the actual hotel and it cost at least $20 less. The agent at the hotel was so understanding that she personally called Getaroom and disclosed that I had indeed rebooked at the same hotel. No one can afford to pay twice, especially a senior on a fixed income. I will have to contact a senior advocate or group that understands that using harsh tactics and fast talking to confuse and intimidate older citizens is not acceptable. Lesson learned, call the hotel directly! Do not go to third party agents.
Bottom line: I was 45 mins past the cut off for cancellation. Cancellation was due to a weather event which was out of my control and agent tactics were confusing, not friendly and pressure driven. If there is any question about this I would urge the company to listen to the audio.
Advice to othersgo directly to the hotel for booking
NOT saavey AT ALL on my phone but site was painless and simple to use. Will certainly use again for my next room booking for future Trips

They added a $700 booking service charge, that is not refundable or covered by Credit Card Insurance - Beware

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
