The Motley Fool has a rating of 2 stars from 334 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with The Motley Fool most frequently mention customer service, stock recommendations and credit card. The Motley Fool ranks 7th among Stock Research sites.
I would advise anyone not trade with them, look around you, you would see the signs are enough for you to stay back, choose the right platform for yourself, let your money count. GAARD.IO helped me out with everything, I'm very wise than ever before, I know the right choice now…
The basic service is not what it was a few years ago. It would seem to me all you get is a basic outline of the stock you could get anywhere, nothing I searched had any recommendations. It would seem that the basic membership has become just a tool to up sell you to a much more expensive service! I had set up a stock portfolio for long term and had not invested of a few years, but kept up the Fool membership as I planned to invest again later and now is that time, the only thing left on the Fool profile was my credit card number!
Not impressed
Four years ago I thought I would do some investing but due to my lack of experience I decided to look into Motley Fools. It has not worked out well. They are great marketers, but oversell and exaggerate their results. I followed their formula - at least 20 of their picks, held for at least three years and now I'm down 22% overall. Not a single pick of theirs is worth more than when I bought it. On the other hand the stocks I picked on my own are up over 30%. Granted they are boring picks (Apple, Amazon,Netflix, Uber, etc) but much better performers than Teledoc, Zoom, Fiver, W, BL, CPNG, and many others that were touted by
Motley Fools and promptly tanked. I learned my lesson and are going to sell their poor performers. Think twice about signing up with them
Their platform promises attractive returns, but it's all smoke and mirrors.
I strongly advise against getting involved with The Motley Fool, as my experience suggests they are operating as a scam. Be cautious, as engaging with them could lead to financial loss and other negative outcomes. I was able to recover my money, but it was only possible through external assistance. (I used their website URL as my display name and profile picture on this review in case anyone needs help or wants to reach out for support).
Note: Due to the strict policy here, I'm sharing this purely to help others recover their funds.
Their "stock advisor" has the worst stock picks. The overall market has been up, but all of the stocks I bought through their advisor are all down close to 90%... all of them. I can't even get out because I'd lose too much. So I'm stuck on the sidelines in these dog stock picks, while everyone else is making money. Don't do it.
Thank you for your feedback. There isn't a financial publisher, The Motley Fool included, that can promise that a recommended stock will not encounter market fluctuations. Investments are inherently a risk, and the market will fluctuate. When we recommend a stock in any subscription or strategy, we are doing so with the intention of holding that stock for 5 years, minimum. As long-term investors, we recognize that stock prices will fluctuate. That being said, we won’t always recommend a sell just because the stock price drops. We prefer to hold stocks in companies that we are confident in for the long term.

The owners of Motley Fool just sell subscriptions and they know that 85% of Americans can't even get a hold of a grand right now so they've shifted to going after folks that have a ton of money invested elsewhere and they're trying to convince them to shift over to Motley Fool! All of their tax burden advice etc. you can find anywhere online! All they do is sell stock pick advice which well trained chimps can do! Once you buy a subscription for $99, after 30 days, they will continue pounding you with sales calls and e-mails to get you to make an even bigger mistake and pay $2500 just for stock advice! If you invest with them the only one who is the fool is you! Besides we're about ready to go through a massive correction cycle! If you're smart you'll run to cash….not these clowns!

I used their services for over 5 years and lost over three hundred thousands from their recommendations. This is a company made of two brothers: one is purely momentum trader and suggests stocks that are going up and the other one suggests stocks that trade far away from highs. They do not understand what makes a good stock or bad one. Except for those well know stocks like Apple, NVDA, 90% of their recommended stocks are junk and now become penny stocks.

Once signed up for premium services, you will begin getting requests to upgrade your service for the good stuff. You will not readily find any cancel subscription links. I had to google directions on how to cancel this worthless service. Do not give them your money!

I have subscribed to 3 MF services over the last 6 to 7 years. They tout their huge wins time and time again, while neglecting to mention any of their losses. I have also determined that their "buy" recommendations come regardless of the stocks current price wrt value. This causes you to jump in at some of the worst times. As it stands the biggest losers in my portfolio are MF recommendations, while I wait the obligatory 5 years for the uptick.

Some of our services, such as Stock Advisor, issue recommendations on a set schedule, and we will continue to do so. You may disagree with a particular recommendation, or feel it isn't the right time to buy, and that's ok!
We do not expect all our members to purchase every recommendation we release, as every investor's journey is different. One of the principal tenets here at The Motley Fool is that the best person to handle your finances is you. Although we provide research behind our recommendations, we encourage our members to do their own research as well. It is our firm belief that it serves every investor's best interest to encounter and consider opposing viewpoints.

I lost half of my account because of my trust in motley fool. I should've know better than to blindly listen to these yahoos. Every week they give buys and they are really the worst timed, worst suggestions that I've encountered. I listened to their pod casts and read all their articles. Thet just want your membership. The catch is, the subscriber is the fool! Do not waste your money. Afterwards, I did much better just putting all my money in the SPY.

After 2.5 years of use, I don't think the value is there for the users. As well as don't think the process to shut off the auto renew is very good. After working though the process I was not happy with it and would recommend other avoid. Thank you. I have used other similar services and really was not impressed.

I joined motley motley fool thinking it would help me with my investments. I was doing pretty good but though I might be able to do better. I invested thousands into 5 of their top rated stocks. As of 1-2 years they were all duds. I think this company is horrible. Don't sign up.

As a remember I did exactly what they said but 15 of their recommendations and I watch my savings go down the tubes. Nearly all the recommendations our growth stocks with no value. They are hoping a couple of those happen to be the next apple or Amazon which will make your returns, The rest will likely fizzle out to low valuations equal to their book value or go out of business. When the market dip 10% spring 2022 my entire savings was cut by 55%. Some of the stocks are down 85%, none are up. Probably more than half of the stocks they recommended were pandemic favorites that had crazy unsustainable profits during the only pandemic of my lifetime, I guarantee they'll never go back to the price I bought them at.

I had three subscriptions (began March 2019)with The Motley Fool and purchased over 30 recommended stocks with the plan to keep for a minimum of 5 years based on their recommendation. As of now the portfolio is down 40%. I had not received any sell advice so I called them and was told I would have to keep paying for the subscription in order to get sell advice. They do not tell you this up front. Bait and Hook is what I consider this. Their services are expensive which would steeply cut into your net profits by having to maintain a subscription. Very disappointed with these brothers. I will go ahead and keep these stocks and wait out the 5 years and report back with what I sincerely hope will be a positive report.

You know, easier to just copy and paste someone else's review. As I feel 100% the same way.
After you sign up for their basic plan you will literally get bombarded with a constant stream of emails desperately trying to sell you more and more. You think you're buying a stock buying advisory service, however it won't be long before you're feeling like if you don't sign up to their additional offers you're actually only getting their third rate service, at best. Their methods are low-class and nasty.

I signed up for Motley Fool and paid for some of the premier services (SA and Rule Breakers) - I'm pretty disappointed with the content. I'm fine if they recommend over-hyped companies / momentum names, but the analysis is very weak. I'm looking for some fundamental and technical analysis - numbers, exhibits, trends, margins, financials. What I get is a few paragraphs on high level trends. Perhaps the in-depth analysis is part of higher tier subscription which is the next complaint.
The constant up-selling, click bait to sign up for the next level service is super annoying. I already spent $300 / year on this...
Strong Pass.

After taking my non refund subscription they sent me a list of stocks I should buy for the long-haul. Within three months every last one of them is down 50 to 60%. - four times as bad as the S&P performance over the same period. Bottom line they sent old outdated news that put me closer to the poorhouse.

So buy this stock and pay us $100 is what is in the "news letter". Who do you think buys the stock first? Every look up a stock on Yahoo and see a bunch of stories by these guys? Why are the stories either very negative or overly positive? Read the disclaimers, it depends on if they own the stock... not very fair if they are giving you what looks like a "news" article. I been burnt by taking their advice and would like everybody to understand who is making money here.

I have made money with some of the Fool's recommendations and wish I had followed some of their other recommendations. Bought DIS in low 30's but became impatient and sold way too early. I like that the Fools is about investing for the long term and not just speculative. My only gripe is the constant barrage of emails for the other investment types available. It is non-stop. Most are way out of my price range. Other than that I have benefitted from the Fool's advice for years.
Thank you for the positive feedback!
We're glad to hear you like our long-term approach to investing - when we recommend a stock, we plan on holding it for 3-5 years, minimum. We believe that a long-term strategy, paired with a diverse portfolio of at least 10-15 stocks, is the best way to counteract the whims of the market.
I’m sorry your experience with our marketing has been a frustrating one. Their job is to entice members to join our subscription services as they launch and promote their respective approach to investing. These offerings are not an upgrade to the subscriptions you are already utilizing and enjoying - they are simply different options that may, or may not, fit in with your investment journey. If you’re satisfied with the subscriptions that you own, that's wonderful! You don't need to change a thing.

Answer: If you'd like to know the reason behind our name, visit this site or read below: https://www.fool.com/about/ The Motley Fool's name comes from William Shakespeare's play "As You Like It". The court jester, known as the Fool, could speak the truth to the king and queen without having his head lopped off. The Fools of yore entertained the court with humor that instructed as it amused. More importantly, the Fool was never afraid to question conventional wisdom. In the same way, we aim to speak the truth about money and investing...and to make financial guidance accessible to people of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Answer: They cater to different requirements. The motley Fool One combines them all but I am not sure is open to new members. I just renewed my three year membership that has yielded many times over its cost.
