Motley Fool's customer service did not cancel my service or issue a full refund after I cancelled my subscription within the 30 day period. Then they continued to renew my membership two subsequent years until I noticed, quite accidentally, by opening one of their spam emails and learning that I have an active premimum membership. I am preparing to submit a formal complaint to the FTC for wire fraud. The service itself is mostly spam emails advertising higher priced subscription services and the investment advice is no better than flipping a coin. Tom and David Gardner are taking your money and providing nothing of value in return. Do not use this service unless you enjoy receiving spam emails.

I sihned up for a year. Checked it out for a few days, but never used info, as I went with a different sevice. 13 months later I happen to notice a charge on my credit card. THen I relize even though not using the service, they atoumatically enroll you into auto renwal on your yearly subscriton. On their website its one click upgrades for adding featers, but to unsiscribe you cant on the site, you have to manually contact them and have them remove you membership. This stinks to high heaven to me. Making sure it takes several steps to remove autorenewl that you automatiically get enrolled in.

Also the mass amount of money they throw at marketing. Use a junk email, as they send several a day!
I am suspicious when a company spends so much tooting their own horn on how good their product is. If it is so good why do you have to push it so much. Trying to brainwash or keep hopium up?

I lost a LOT of money on their recommendations
August 3, 2022

Yes, the stock market has been dreadful the past year, but I made major investments in some of Fool's "hottest" stocks and the steepest losses in my portfolio are almost uniquely tied to Motley Fool. I won't take any of their suggestions in the future.

2 for 2 loss

Bought roku and airbnb because of them and now I'm sitting at $3000 loss and still dropping. Their hot picks miss the mark and they're still telling people to buy roku. Biggest joke of advice I've followed since starting investing.

Stay Away!
July 24, 2022

Stay away! I joined about 6 months ago and it has been a horrible experience.
Right after joining, you are bombarded by emails trying to get you to upgrade to a more expensive service. I mean bombarded! It is unrelenting. You don't even have time to try out the existing service before this happens. Makes you feel, other than totally annoyed, that the service you already signed up for is second rate.
Next you will get stock buy recommendations. The returns on these recommendations have been pathetic. The recommendations, many times, were at the height of the stock price, with the price dropping significantly shortly after. Dropping 50-90%. And their reaction? You need to hold for a long time. No taking responsibility or acknowledging errors.
So basically you pay to be bombarded by marketing emails and horrendous stock buy recommendations. Stay away!

Stock Selections
July 18, 2022

I just joined the Motley Fool this evening. When looking at the results over time I was appalled. Stock selections over the past five or less years have dramatically lagged the market. If I look at those from 5 to twenty years back they seem to have done better. Does the Motley Fool not take into account stock prices at the time they recommend a stock. Sorry guys but I'm not impressed. It seems that the numbers associated with the success rate are calculated using the past twenty years of selections. I would have a heart attack if I thought my portfolio would resemble the selections over the past five years. If this seems a bit harsh perhaps I missed something?
I haven't calculated their 5 year return yet but will do so. It won't be pretty. When I look at each individual stock from the past five or so years I cannot believe what I am seeing. Yep, and I paid for this? It's called "gotcha"!

I have been a member for the last 3 years, and I have followed the strategy to a tee. Up until the collapse of the Market in December I was behind the DJIA and S&P. OK, fine, they say buy and hold 10 years, but some of my 15 picks were getting their butts kicked since I started. Then with the correction, I lost more than 30%. I was gaining less in the up turn, and losing more in the downturn.
I won't tell you about the spamming and constant upselling. I have been deleting emails those things since the first year.
Anyway, today I decided I'd had enough. I bought into the premium contract for one year in March. I wrote MF and told them I would like exit and I would be happy with a prorata return. Immediate answer "NO! You can go on line and opt out of auto renewal for next year but we will not return any money.

My recommendation, go to seeking alpha and pay the equivalent for upgraded recommendations from some of their best rated authors, I've done much better there.

Awful advice
June 30, 2022

I subscribed to the fool about 2 years ago and they highly recommended Canopy Growth when it was $53 a share. They said this was going to grow tremendously over the next 2 years. I bought a stake in the stock and it is currently selling for $2.87 a share. Other recommendations they have made are also garbage. Don't waste your money on the subscription. I got Barrrons instead and I get more out of that than fool could ever get you.

They ruined me!
June 29, 2022

As a remember I did exactly what they said but 15 of their recommendations and I watch my savings go down the tubes. Nearly all the recommendations our growth stocks with no value. They are hoping a couple of those happen to be the next apple or Amazon which will make your returns, The rest will likely fizzle out to low valuations equal to their book value or go out of business. When the market dip 10% spring 2022 my entire savings was cut by 55%. Some of the stocks are down 85%, none are up. Probably more than half of the stocks they recommended were pandemic favorites that had crazy unsustainable profits during the only pandemic of my lifetime, I guarantee they'll never go back to the price I bought them at.

I had three subscriptions (began March 2019)with The Motley Fool and purchased over 30 recommended stocks with the plan to keep for a minimum of 5 years based on their recommendation. As of now the portfolio is down 40%. I had not received any sell advice so I called them and was told I would have to keep paying for the subscription in order to get sell advice. They do not tell you this up front. Bait and Hook is what I consider this. Their services are expensive which would steeply cut into your net profits by having to maintain a subscription. Very disappointed with these brothers. I will go ahead and keep these stocks and wait out the 5 years and report back with what I sincerely hope will be a positive report.

Subscribed to multiple services due to very misleading advertising only to find all there recommendations are not based on any hard facts just fancy projections. When the stocks go down deep red, they later cover it up by asking you to hold it then for 5 years and keep subscribing to their services.

I have been a subscriber of MotleyFool's Ultimate growth service for close to 2.5 years. This premium service charges $1499 in annual fees. That portfolio since its inception (well over 2 years) has returned -42%. During the same period ASX has returned a whopping +28.65%. Out of the 28 recommended stocks only 2 stocks is is positive territory while the rest are outright losers.

Beware!
May 12, 2022

Huge unacceptable losses (-70%) based on the stock advisor" timely picks over 8/21 to present! Hyping high growth stocks with extreme valuations with no attention to economic headwinds. (Such as rate hikes, war, inflation, gas prices, whole country shutdowns, etc.) Example: timely recommendation "upstart" at a price over $150 (was originally over $300), is now sitting at $30. No matter the time horizon strategy for stock advisory business, there is no excuse for the horrendously precarious recommendations provided over the past year. The risks involved with rate hikes alone should have been a sign to advise your followers to start reducing exposure to high growth companies, not for them to double down! Unforgivable! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! There are many other advisory companies with better risk assessment out there!

Poor results
May 10, 2022

Wait for a bull market. They recommend extremely overvalued companies that get crushed in this environment. My fool portfolio will need to 2x from here just to break even and many of the companies are still overvalued even after the huge drop in stock price.
Avoid the "real money portfolios". They recycle the same stock picks and essentially ignore the customers.
Their last two highest conviction stocks to 3x in 5 years were Upstart and Peloton if that gives you any indication.
Still waiting for them to publish their 2021 returns.

You know, easier to just copy and paste someone else's review. As I feel 100% the same way.

After you sign up for their basic plan you will literally get bombarded with a constant stream of emails desperately trying to sell you more and more. You think you're buying a stock buying advisory service, however it won't be long before you're feeling like if you don't sign up to their additional offers you're actually only getting their third rate service, at best. Their methods are low-class and nasty.

A single disastrous stock pick has made me regret my membership: Shopify.
The fact that Shopify stock was recommended by Motley Fool's stock advisor service and no revisions to this recommendation have been made despite the fact that it is now down 70% says it all. There are numerous articles by the Fool's own analysts expressing negative sentiments about the stock's prospects for the near future, but no admission of a mistake from the stock advisor service.
Almost every other stock that I purchased based on a recommendation by the service has been a loser, but the losses from Shopify far outweigh any losses that I've seen to date -- again, we're talking 70%. It could take years to recuperate (apparently the recommended hold time is 5 years now), let alone see any gains from Motley Fool's "highly recommended" stock pick.
And after their stock picks tank, they send a marketing email touting a new service for pivoting away from those investments. Here's an excerpt from one of these emails: "Patterns which explain the drubbing growth stocks like Zoom, Peloton, and Docusign have taken…all while other stocks have soared to new highs…"
