I booked and reserved a 7-seater minivan on Oct. 14,2023, to pick it up on Nov. 10,2023. I got there two hours and 17 minutes before my reservation time. Let me back up a bit. In between the time frame of October to November, I called Dollar Rent A Car to twice, one to confirm that the type vehicle would be available on the day of my pickup, and just 8 days before my scheduled pickup I called again to confirm that the van will be at the pickup location which was 2300 Rental Car Center Parkway, College Park, Georgia, USA, ATL -Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. On both occasions I got a YES confirmation. So, move forward now, during me standing in line, I keep witnessing frustrated people and folks started cussing about making a reservation and not getting a car. So, I called Dollar Rent A to confirm once again that my scheduled minivan was there at the pickup location, and they told me YES, all I must do is just wait in the line until I get to the counter. When I reached up to the counter, I stretched out the reservation paper to the agent who did not even look at it let alone took it from my hand. She just looked me in the eye and told me that there were no cars available and that I would have to wait 4-5 hours or come back in the morning. I told her I understood that, but I am not here for a car, I'm here for a minivan. She repeated herself again, so I repeated myself again also and asked to just at least check the reservation to see if there was a 7-seater minivan out there because I just called, and you guys confirmed that the van was out there. She left from behind the counter and called everyone's attention and stated that there was no vehicle on the lot, that there was a 4-5 hrs. Wait, and that time started at the time she checks in or to come back in the morning and neither one of these option is guaranteed and she cannot do any cancelling, we all have to cancel with who we purchased through.
For a company that professes "We never forget whose dollar it is." I would have to say, Dollar is either delusional or dastardly dishonest.
I rented a vehicle for 7 days, opting for "managers special" and pre-paid for the entire week. When I arrived to pick up the car I inquired about returning it early if I found I no longer needed it. I was told that because I had pre-paid I HAD to keep the vehicle for the entire 7 days. - I find this odd but whatever, I'll put the miles on your car instead of mine.
The leasing agent was also very pushy about "pre-paying" for the gas upon return of the vehicle. I assured him that I knew how to pump gas and was even pretty good at keeping the tank filled since the last time I was left stranded without gas was in 1989. The agent continued to push, I continued to decline. - Rude, I thought, but this is Florida and perhaps he was having an off day.
I returned the vehicle a week later, but only after stopping at the gas station to put nearly $27 in the tank, not bad since it's $60+ to fill my Expedition. I then drove the 15 miles to the rental agency where they proceeded to charge me $41.37 to top off the gas tank! So here's my question for you Dollar, how does a Kia Soul with a 14.3 gallon tank hold $68 in gas ($27 that I put in, and $41 that your representatives supposedly put in) on top of the already 3.5 gallons that were present when I stopped to fill it up. In fact, it's completely impossible unless the cost of gas were over $4.50 a gallon, which by the way, it is not.
I think your representatives know EXACTLY whose dollar it is but through their own greed or your dishonest policies, decided it should no longer be my dollar.
You have sent me no less than 4 emails in the last week asking me to rate my experience and I have gladly obliged you with a brutally honest response every time. I even spoke to Grace in your customer relations department who "gladly" refunded me...$18(?). So I would presume by your rationale then that Dollar is "entitled" to an extra $23 of my dollars?
Very well then, let's see how much bad publicity I can drum up for you to go with that $23 dollars because I wouldn't want you to forget whose dollar it is.
Fraudulent business practices are in full swing at a Dollar Car Rental counter near you. It is my hope that my recent experience at a Chicago O'Hare Dollar Car Rental counter will give pause to those asking to produce a credit card for "a deposit if car damage occurs." That's the jargon the counter agent spewed even though my reservation had been paid in full prior to my arrival through a travel agency. When asked to sign the signature pad, you see nothing of what you are agreeing to sign for, other than for what the "word" of the counter agent had you believe you are signing for.
Do not sign any screen unless the agent produces a "print screen " version of what you actually are signing-period. What my experience taught me was that verbally declining additional insurances went deaf to the agents' ears as I was billed hundreds of dollars of unwanted coverages on my final bill. It was only after the incident that I found that these types of add-ons to rental contracts are commissionable incentives for counter agents... voila!
If you are needing to use Dollar Car Rental, assume the counter agent will ignore your verbal request to not add unwanted charges-pull out your phone and inform that counter person that you are recording the conversation. If you are asked to present an additional credit card, ask for a print screen of all charges you are agreeing to sign for. I'm now having to fight with the credit card company to retrieve my lost $$$'s. You shouldn't have to go through what countless others like myself have had to experience with Dollar Car Rental. Read the countless reviews as they are rampant!

Giving them 1 star is being nice. I reserved a car over a week in advance. They had a new girl do my transaction for her first time(her name was Candy), without assistance. Her face looked puzzled, and I knew something went wrong. They swiped my card 4 times and claimed it came up declined. Me being confused because I was just paid that morning so there would never be a way for it to have declined. Sure enough, the transaction was taking out of my account 4 times. The 5th time my account was fraud-ed and it was declined. This happened Friday at 12pm, its now Monday and I have yet to receive any of my money. No car rental! Trip was cancelled! Money lost on hotels i reserved the list goes on. Now they tell me I have to wait 5-7 business days for this to process before my claim from my bank to proceed. Even though MY BANK CONTACTED THEM WITH AN AUTH NUMBER SHOWING THEY PROCESSED THIS BOGUS MONEY SCAM-still wouldnt refund me. Now I have to wait 7-10 business days to see my money. 401.00 charged 4 times, ridiculous. Worst company ever. DIDNT NOT CARE this happened, offer me deals, nothing to make up for THEIR MISTAKE. Do not, do not use this company! I reported them to the BBB, this is completed fraud! How van they hold my money on a rental I never got! THIS HAPPENED AT THE CHICAGO MIDWAY LOCATION-
IM HIGHLY UPSET ABOUT THIS RENTAL! I RENTED FROM THEM A MONTH AGO AND WHEN I MADE MY RESEVSTION IT SAID THE PRICE OF THE RENTAL WAS $239... WHEN I GOT TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE I GOT A DIFFERENT PRICE... I ENDED UP PAYING ALMOST $800 WITH THE PRICE OF THE RENTAL, INSURANCE AND THE DEPOSIT... I WAS LIVID! I ASKED ABOUT THE INSURANCE SHE TOLD ME WE HAD TO GET IT OR WE COULDNT RENT THE VEHICLE, THEN SHE SAID I COULDNT GO SOMEWHERE ELSE OR THEY WOULD CHARGE MY CARD BECAUSE I CANCELLED THE RENTAL AND IT WASNT 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE SO IT WAS LIKE I WAS BEING FORCED TO RENT FROM THEM... I TOLD HER THAT THEY SHOULD EXPLAIN THESE FEES OVER THE PHONE OR EVEN IN SMALL PRINT HELL! TO TOP IT OFF I JUST RECIEVED A CHARGE ON MY CARD FOR ANOTHER $50 FOR TOLL FEES LIKE REALLY WTF YALL JUST RIPPING PEOPLE OFF... I KNOW I DIDNT GO THRU ANY TOLLS CAUSE I WAS A RESIDENT IN THE CITY FOR 17 YEARS UNTIL JULY OF 2020... SMH NEVER WILL I EVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO THEM! THIS IS BEYOND ME
