My friends and I went on vacation and rented from this company and we ended up cutting our vacation short and came home 3 days early. The guy at the return center told us to call the next day about getting refunded for the days we didn't use. So we called and spoke to this guy and he said we would be getting back 300$ and it should be in our account within 5 business days. A month passed and still no refund. So I call again and the lady who was helping us this time told us no refund could be issued. Like what!? The guy before totally just lied to us and this company is such a scam. Got charged for 3 whole days that we didn't use the car. I will be telling my friends and family and everyone I talk to, to never use this company ever. Such a scam
Rented from dollar at JFK recently. First, they had no cars in the stalls they specified on my paperwork. I had to yell for a guy in the lot to come help me because everyone pretended I didn't exit. I finally got him to come over and he offered me a minivan which I was not interested in. He went into the booth and made a phone call which took what seemed like forever, while I stood outside with my luggage in 30 degree weather. Finally, they drove up a car that was filthy. It must have just been turned in and they filled the tank and handed it off to me. Unfortunately, I did not have time to waste due to me needing to be somewhere at a specific time. I suppose because it was an $8.00 rental for the day I should have known what to expect, next time I'll pay a little more with a different company.
Called just now and got a great deal that was orchestrated by mr. Glen at customer service. Thank u Glen. Received excellent assistance by a person that wanted to help. Great job. This is what is expected when calling customer service.
Linda in Palm Springs stayed over her lunch break to help us with a car. Friendly, professional and went the extra mile to provide for us!
Took 3 hours to get a rental car at LAX in June.
Took 1 hour to get a rental car at John Wayne in August.
I've used a wide range of mainstream car rentals, and find that Dollar most of the time has the best pricing. In places like Las Vegas the wait line can take a long time; fortunately I have Dollar Express so I can go to the outside kiosk and get my rental there. Never had a problem with their cars. Cust svc has been satisfactory.
Rented a vehicle for 4 days in Salt Lake City. I was charged for insurance (39.99 a day) which I wasn't aware of, was never asked. Counter agents must receive incentives when they sell their insurance and pre-pay gas. This seems like the scam of choice of these agents. Yes, it is my responsibility to read every word of the contract before I sign. I thought they would have a little integrity, wrong.
Scheduled a mid size rental in Indianapolis then received a managers special promo and it was a rip off. Instead as the $279.00 weekly rental it was $100.00 per day. Will never use them or Hertz again.
I used Dollar at the palm springs airport for two different cars. I returned both vehicles full of gas. They charged me for a full tank. I did not accept their offer to fill the tank when I signed the contract originally.
Agent approved the condition of the car saying everything is fine but he didn't have time to print receipt. Do not listen to agent on returning the car but insist that you get your receipt. After I complained to headquarters they have done nothing to return my money. Got scammed by thrifty just a month earlier. When I trusted the agent at the counter. Both thrifty and dollar are owed by Hertz. Beware!
They do not honor existence reservations as well as overbooking at each location and let you sit in line for two and and a half hours before they tell you at the counter no cars are available. Three $#*! companies that have zero customer service or care.
Rented a car from Dollar at the Phoenix airport. Returned in the way I got it. Just received a $250 bill for unspecified "damages". They neglected to describe what the damages were--all they did was send a bill. I've rented dozens of cars and never received a bill for damages. I expect that if I ever did receive such a bill for damages it would include a detailed report of the damage and proof that the damage occurred during the period of my rental. Even if I successfully appeal the damage charges it will have been a waste of enough of my time to make it never worth renting with Dollar again.
Update: I was able to resolve the dispute but it took me about an hour. I switched my rating from 1 star to 2 stars.
This is the biggest lie! I will never rent from Dollar again. The $#*! they pulled on me when I used my debit card a few days ago to rent a car was the biggest headache and lie I've ever seen from a rental car company. And you can bet I'm telling everyone I know and will post this nonsense company on all social media review sites.
I paid in full and rented a car at dollar and picked up the car at New Hampshire airport where I was told about the xtra fee for gas and adding a second driver, but the representative never told us that by using their e-pass or sunpass, we will be charged an extra $15 administration fee for each told we used. I am completely disappointed and I considered this a rip off. Toll was only 19.50 and administration fee was 90. Can you imaging, I had some $1 toll and got charged an extra $15. I will never ever rent a car from them again. I tried to call but there was no answer. I rented from other rental businesses before and I never had such an outrageous fee. Insane! I hope this review help you decide to look somewhere else in turns of renting purposes.
If you are part of Dollar Express loyalty program, BEWARE.
I went to their website to book a car out of the Tampa Airport, and was surprised of the great rate of $15.20 per day! I noticed I didn't input my Dollar Express account, when I did, it dumped out my original information and required me to re-input my information, when I did, with my Express number, the rate changed to $71 a day, thinking this was a mistake, I tried it a second time, again the cheapest rental was $71. I signed out, cleared the cache on Safari, re-entered the information as an anonymous person and got the $15.20 rate again! This is how Dollar Rental Car treats their loyal customers, by charging them much higher rates, than just a random person visiting the website! It's sad they rip off their loyal customer base!
I booked an SUV ******* through Economy Car Rental with Dollar, Mia International and this was the worst vehicle they could ever give anyone to go on the road with. As soon as I reached outside to pick up the vehicle the gentleman said and pointed this one for you. It looked good on the outside but was a total mess!
I tried calling to return the vehicle and get an upgrade but it was fruitless and my time was limited.
I had to rent another vehicle from Alamo and park that junk because I drove to Ft. Lauderdale and only was on a short stay. I complained to the guy that took the keys from me and all he said is to complain inside. The line was long and my flight was close to departure but I hope they get to see this.
Rented a car at Logan air port Boston. Paid more than I was told. Then when checking out with my rental two problems. One the car wasn't clean. The windshield had a crack. The person who is supposed to check out the rental didn't even got out of his booth to look the car over. He only ask for mileage. I told him about the windshield having a little crack he never replied and didn't take the time to log it. Dollar car rental took money from my account for repair to windshield. I spoke to rep. Over the phone. He kept putting me on hold. I asked to speak to supervisor. He said the best he can do is have her call me back. She finally did but wasn't very helpful. I asked to speak to someone above her and she refused to give any phone numbers of her boss. I will never do business with dollar rental car again.
Dollar charges toll fees without explaining a $10.99/day fee is applied for Activating Toll Plates. I was told there are toll roads in Orlando and that she is activating the toll plates, never explained that there is a $10.99 fee per day. I never went through a toll and was charged $60. When I asked for it to be refunded they said the same thing over and over. Nothing can be done. LOL
I confirmed my rental day and time the day before we needed it. Dollar Rental in Dallas didn't have a rental car available until 10 pm at night. Six hours after the scheduled time it was needed. We had a show to get to 2 hours after our flight landed. As a result we had to spend over $170 on an Uber to get us to the hotel, and to the show and back to the hotel. Then we were charged an extra $100 by Dollar Rental for a fee and a $12 toll 2 weeks after the trip. Do not trust this business. Once they have your card number, they'll continue to make withdrawals from your bank account.
A family of four flying in from MN for a wedding of a dear friend in PA. Waited almost an hour for a pick up at the airport while watching every other rental car company's pick ups going past MULTIPLE times. Finally getting to the rental, waited over 40 mins in line before getting the car. Didn't have the car I booked. Was not presented options for tolls; the EZPass in the car was already opted-in without my knowing. I live in MN where no tolls in highways so obviously oblivious to the possibility that there will be a huge bill if you don't pay the toll yourself by buying your own EZPass. Not told this at the time of rental. A few days later, I got hit with a bill for around $50 for passing through tolls a few times in three days. Is this some dishonest scheme to pile charges? Rude and inefficient staff, hidden admin fees and charges amounting to around $100 dollars and toll charges to top it off. A very bad, unpleasant experience. AVOID DOLLAR/HERTZ
I planned a fly fishing trip to Yellowstone for over a year and I rented a station wagon in Salt Lake City tfor the trip. It was supposed to be under $600 but cost me over a thousand. I drive over 6 hours to Yellowstone, cook dinner, set up air mattress in the car and discover the driver's window wouldn't go up. It was 37° and raining, I froze. The next day I had to drive back to SLC to exchange the car and missing my fishing trip. The agent asked why I was exchanging the car I told him the window wouldn't go up and he asked if it was a Suburu and I said yes, he said they've had that problem before with that car. I missed my fishing trip and lost my deposit for it, then turned the car in early but they refused to give me any money back. ALSO, the front brake rotors were warped on the second car. STAY AWAY!
Answer: Not easy at all. No phone number available. They force you to go through Facebook Messenger to communicate. A joke of a company. Don't give them your business.
Answer: An absolute scam of a company. Look at the reviews on Yelp, Google, BBB, etc. This company is owned and filled by unethical people lying and misleading customers to steal their money.
