Except for the two years at Umass, Amherst, I've lived my life in Maryland. My career was spent in higher ed teaching figurative sculpture and ceramics. Two grown sons and two cute dogs (the one pictured is named Popcorn), plus some exes. I'm very generous with panhandlers and I pick up stray dogs. I am extremely worried about the disparity of wealth and the danger it poses to Democracy and freedom in the US.i.e. our current President. I'm extremely curious.
I know a great deal about art and ceramics. I'm a trained mediator. I know a fair amount about plumbing, carpentry, electrical work and cooking.
, reading and making things, I'm a sculptor. I really like to travel
I'm a pretty good cook; I can make croissants, beef wellington and a great bolognese sauce and I think the HEXCLAD company produces amazing pots and pans. So what makes them so great you ask. Some background: Teflon and similarly coated PP's once scratched, not only begin to loose their non-stick quality but for health reasons should be discarded and not used. And what's worse YOU CAN'T MAKE "FOND" with them. Fond is those little brown bits and other browned areas that stick to the bottom of the pan after frying and are like gold when making gravies or sauces and in any recipe in which you deglaze the pan, (adding liquid to a hot pan) to use the resulting liquid as an ingredient.
HEXCLAD solved the problem. They did it by placing the Teflon or Teflon-like material in hexagonal grooves all over the surface of the pan, including the bottom. As a result, the pot's surface metal is higher than the coating and thus protects it from being scratched by metal tools while still maintaining its non-stick ability. It's also makes the pot very easy to clean. Now for the best part. Drumroll please... ONE CAN STILL MAKE FOND! So buy a pan, crack open that dusty cookbook and start cooking like a pro. Good luck!
Tip for consumers:
The pots are a good weight with nice heat distribution. Don't buy sets of p&ps. It's cheaper to buy only the pans you really use. The same is true for knife sets, except with knives, a brand may make only one style better than the other brands. You must have an excellent 8inch chef's knife and a way to keep it razor sharp
Micromark is primarily a distributer of tools, materials and equipment for making models. The items they offer range from simple screw drivers to 3-D printers
And milling machines. I have found their offerings to be of good quality and reasonably priced. Keep in mind that reasonably priced doesn't mean inexpensive but for one stop shopping for the hard-to-find they do a good job. I've used them numerous times and have never had a problem.
Tip for consumers:
Seeing all of the great items available in the catalog can be a very seductive process. So, when ordering tools or equipment be sure you will use them enough to be worth the price. Caveat Emptor: I have a few dust collectors on my studio shelves!

Like many of you, for good reason, I am skeptical and thus anxious about on-line pictures of advertised products. Well, you can relax. What they show you is what you get. The bag I ordered arrived quickly and I was pleased to see the quality of the bag is excellent. The thickness of the goat leather is substantial and the stitching
on the bag is straight and precise. My initial thought was that this bag will last a very long time and will look better and better as the scuffs and stains acquired in travel add to the original "patina". So, if Covid ever permits us to travel, for either business or pleasure or simply on a daily basis, one of these bags will be great to carry. NOTE: For shipping purposes, the bag arrives tightly folded and will require some use for the wrinkles to disappear. IDEA: I haven't done this but I think it might work. First, stuff the bag fully with old clothes, towels or plastic bags stuffed with newspaper. Then hang the bag in a steamy bathroom as close to the steam source
( shower curtain rod?) as possible for 20-30 minutes. Allow the bag to dry for 2-4 hours; remove the stuffing and check the results. You may need to repeat this process. If you try this before I do, please post the results and let us know how well it worked

The real test of a company's integrity happens when there is a problem. I recently had some antique wind-up toys repaired at Randy's. When they were returned one was not working as it should. Long story short: I returned the toy; they made the repair and shipped it to me at no cost. Easy peasy!
I read a number of their reviews before I wrote this one and it appears PayPal may operate in alternate universes. WOW, who knew! To a certain extent, it appears depending on how you use PayPal, you may or may not have a good experience. As a purchaser, mine could not have been better. Using PayPal, I recently made two purchases, from separate companies, one for $450 and one for $30. In each instance, I didn't receive the merchandise. I contacted PayPal and approximately 3-4 weeks later the full amount was credited to my checking account. No proof required; easy-peasy! That said, not being able to speak with someone when there's a problem can be extremely annoying.
Correction:
The company informed me that their free gift is a holiday tradition, not unsold merchandise
I sent this to Nuts.com:
Congratulations! I always thought nothing is free but it seems I was wrong, I recently purchased some, hard to find, chocolate covered orange peel. They are very, very good. As I was emptying the shipping box,"When what to my wondering eyes did appear..." but a free holiday tin of four different treats, including surprisingly yummy, chocolate-covered gummy bears and tiny white chocolate pretzels! This, I assume was unsold holiday merchandise, which you could have been sold at reduced cost. Instead you added them, free-of-charge, including shipping, to my order. What a company! FYI, I'm going to repost this on Sitejabber.com; you may want to take a look. Have a prosperous New Year!
Having used this site a number of times, I can say with confidence that you can be sure of its integrity. That said, the buyer still must always exercise good judgement. In the auction process there is an opportunity for purchasing items at good price.
Suggestion: This site permits live on-line bidding. If you have never attended an auction, it would behoove you to simply watch several auctions and do some pretend practice bidding. For beginners, it's very easy to get caught up in the very fast moving process: only to find you paid more for something than you had intended. Good luck!
I've been a subscriber, that they call a member, for about 50 years and I have found them to be a reliable source of information and advice on a wide variety of products and services. The information and advice on negotiating the price of a car worked like a charm. The last time I used it and was leaving, two of the salesmen actually applauded! To assure impartiality, they accept no advertising and as a member you have the opportunity to vote for their board of directors. While one might not agree with their rating you are confident they've done their best.
While my comments relate to an in-store experience, the attention I received tells me that the company values their customers. I had dropped off a watch to have it repaired and it was returned to me repaired but the band was not completely reassembled. When I returned to the store, the service manager came out to speak with me. This is the service manager in the largest jewelry company on the East Coast. He apologized for the mistake and then thanked me when I let him know about another problem I had. He said,"Good service is our number one priority because without it people loose confidence in the products you sell. In this business a good reputation is absolutely necessary". If all companies respected their customers as much as Albert Smyth Jewelers. There might not be any need for Sitejabber, but don't get your hopes up.
This was a first for me. I recently received an inquiry from Rockler asking if I would be willing to help a customer who was considering purchasing an item that I had previously purchased. While I was unable to answer their question I was able to make a suggestion. Recognizing that to a certain extant I was doing Rockler's job I thought that by putting one person in contact with another it gave us the opportunity to feel better about our fellow man/woman. I would feel better for helping someone and they would feel better knowing that someone cared enough to try and help. Win win.
I like the spirit of the company.
The owner, Michael Route, is an extremely talented metal worker who produces very high quality work at very reasonable prices. The things he produces do not go out of fashion and will likely be passed down through successive generations. Because most of his work is custom made he is very willing to work with the customer to produce something that pleases them. I have purchased a number of pieces from him and have found him to be a pleasure to work with. Enjoy the process.
They say they have 25k rugs to choose from; needless to say, I didn't count. I can say that the selection was terrific, I was looking for a Persian style and found more than I was looking for. The carpet I found was marked Shiraz-Lori but was actually a very, very unusual design, similar to the Morrocan style abstract patterned type. For the price I paid, I thought it was a bargain. They show lots of pictures of each carpet advertised and the shipping was very efficient and free. The carpet that arrived looked exactly like the one pictured on their site. One caution: I have great doubt about the validity of the 60% price reduction advertised.
I use this system. Having used other home security systems, I can say with confidence that a little research on your part will show you that Simplisafe is by far the least expensive to purchase and operate and it's a very easy DIY project if you READ THE DIRECTIONS. The no contract monthly charge greatly reduces future agravation when trying to cancel such as the company requiring a written, snail mail deliverd request. FYI, I refused and just stopped payment. There are however two features that are not readily apparent. First, because Simplisafe uses a dedicated cell phone as compared to the typical use of a land-line connection, would be burglars can't disable the system by simply cutting the phone line. In contrast, even unplugging Simplisafe, without the pass code, alerts the company. Second, by carrying the activation fob on your person when at home, you have, at no extra cost, the benefit of the expensive Lifealert, "i've fallen and I can't get up!" system. Simply hit the panic button and they send help. What's not to like?
I believe in buying good shoes, particularly those made in Italy. No more breaking-in shoes and they look great. This company carries a wide range of well-made shoes and some also come in wide. No need to jump around from site to site comparing manufacturers and syles. Shipping is included in price. These shoes aren't cheap but if you wear shoes as long as I do (I'm a man) the quality is well worth the price (cost per year). FYI: If you are like me and have feet of two different sizes or your feet are between sizes, a shoe stetcher is inexpensive and will solve the problem.
While I haven't tried many vaping products, actually only two, the eSTICK is great! It's very well-made, easy and rather inexpensive to use while providing a very satisfying vapor volume. The refill liquid comes in a variety of strengths and flavors but I was advised by customer service to use the medium strength and it has proven to be perfect. There may be better products out there but this one needs no improvements.
When I first started shaving I used a double-edged disposable razor blade. By that I mean one on each side. With the advent of the of the the double edged razors with the two blades on the same side I though, "what took 'em so long" I continued using them until the model I was using had four blades. It was a great shave, with only an occasional nick. The only down-side was their cost, at almost $4 each! Then I tried Dorco with six blades... WOW. Now, I know you're thinking how much better can six be than four Trust me when I tell you it is the closest shave I've ever had; and my wife agrees when she uses them. It may be an illusion, but when using this blade I find that my close-shave feeling lasts about 4-6 hours longer. And if that wasn't good enough I recently purchased them on sale for $1.20 each. If it were possible I'd give this razor 6... no ten stars.
A battery listed at $2.95 each cost $1.25 when ordering six! Unlike some online retailers the hipping cost of $2.95 seemed very reasonable. Site was easy to navigate and payment coordinated with Paypal was simple and quick
Their customer service is truly remarkable! I purchased a teak bench that had some problems that could not be corrected. I called customer service and explained my problem. Did they ask me to take a picture of it? NO. Did they ask me to pay for return shipping? NO. Did they ask me to package it back up and ship it to them. NO What did they do? They said "no problem, our products have a lifetime warranty; so we'll just send you a new one". That made my day! Integrity is alive and well at Signature Hardware. And Jacob who assisted me could not have been more helpful and polite.
I've dealt with this company several times and each time their customer service people; I actually think it's one person; are patient and willing to assist me in any way they can. This time, I ordered a few projector bulbs offered at a great discount with a 120 day warranty and shipping included. A couple of hours later I received a phone call informing me that they could not be shipped for 3-5 business days. This phone call was in contrast to other sites that never let you know when a product is out-of-stock; until you call trying to find out what's going on. I don't know how you feel about customer service but I value it very highly. It's not until you have a problem that you find out what type of company you are dealing with.
The beauty of on-line buying: Ordered the product at a competitive price and it was delivered to my door. I. e. What we expect but don't always get.
