The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

I purchased a new heating and air unit 14 MONTHS ago from McCrea. The unit was installed with a gadget type thermostat, the kind that comes with an app and is temperamental wonder. So, I was able to leave home a couple days last week and returned to a 90 degree house. The thermostat didn't register a person walking by for those days and decided a nap was in order. I am not 12 and do not play with apps or want to program dials and light switches. I want to set a temperature to cool and expect a unit I bought one year ago to run. Long story short, I called McCrea and they couldn't tell me when anyone could come out but I could opt for emergency service. Well, you cannot cook dinner or sleep in a 90 degree house so I voted for the emergency service with a charge of $179. The tech spent less than 2 MINUTES playing with the thermostat and charged me $58.00 on top of the $179. I told that tech and the general manager (when he returned my call three days later) that they had compounded insult with injury. A) I could have been given an answer as to when they could come during business hours b) the emergency tech could have called me, as I was told that he would, before showing up in which case I would have told him the unit was then running again and waited for a regular business time or at least c) They did not have to price gouge me with the petty $58 for 120 seconds. That was bad business, petty, and ONE WAY TO LOSE A CUSTOMER.
Was contacted by phone and told cost would be no more than $300
And that they would get back to me to go over the actual ad before service began the next month. They did not contact me and was unaware until a $570 charge appeared on my credit card statement. Upon contacting the CC learned another charge of $564.19 had also been posted. They are scammers!
I registered my business on yelp few weeks ago, I got numerous calls from their teams about advertising my business, I declined! At the end of the month I got a bill of $300? How? I called their support and he yelled and hung up on me? How on earth did I get an ad running without any for of confirmation nor emails stating my ads were running? Yelp are scammers!
I canceled everything other than my free page listing for my small lawn care business on yelp. 2 months later I have been charged $340.38 for only 4 clicks! I would not recommend Yelp to anyone!
Genz Ryan, sent us a text for service next day, on service day NO call NO show. I called the next day to reschedule and had to wait 4 weeks. Talked to a service person day before and was told we were on the schedule. Service day came. Again, NO CALL, NO SHOW. I will never use or refer anyone to this business. I DON'T LOVE THESE GUYS
For restarant PHOI just put thay charge extra 1 dollar per dish for covid -19 why? Yelp removed my rating based on that "because it wasn't clear that your review described your firsthand experience as a customer of the business." I have ate there have credit card receipt. Yelp is fraud am suing them, they make deal with restaurant if they buy advertisement from yelp
Then negative ratings removed. This is very unethical
I cancelled Yelp and received my cancellation letter from Yelp 09/28/2015. I called to cancel again in May of 2020. It is now, July 22,2020 and they continue to charge $375. Every month.
Do not sign up with these people. You can't get rid of them
I live in Fremont, California, I have been a member with Yelp for over 20 years. Every time, I made complaints I got responses right away. My gut feeling is that Yelp is a resourceful and reliable website.
Megan Marrs: "Many review sites have come and gone, but Yelp has continued to be a highly trusted source for local business reviews and ratings." ~~ https://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2013/07/22/yelp-reviews
OK i am a long running legit biz with a 4.7 star rating on yelp. However i till hates them cause they are about as sleazy as it gets. They try to shift responsibility to this algorithm but that is a total lie. For example, if you get a negative review by a no prior review person, it will stays on or if it in fact does gets buried, it stays on the top of the buried ( not recommend section) explain that! Ok how about someone with many reviews gave you a 5 star and within days it gets buried against their unreliable source BS. Strangely, every time i get a brain wash low life boiler room hustler who tried to get my ad money and i tell them nicely i will think about it, a buried review becomes visible or my few negative ones gets buried. Really, we are too dumb to get the hint? I have literally 70 5 star and 5 1 star and more than half the 5 star by legit customers gets buried and only 2 of the 5 one star gets buried. So this algorithm also defy the laws of statistics? Overall it is a very negative experience for anyone as they are focused on the negative, unless you advertise. It would be interesting for a class action suit and the FBI to look into how this algorithm is written, maybe then yelp will be taken off the internet or charged criminally for extortion and cyber bullying. Oh, curiously their much bigger brother GOOGLE have us at all 5 star review and zero review with anything less than 5 star, funny odds don't you think? The best thing we can all do to put them out of business is to ask all customer to only review on google search and not these guys.
I just had the most wonderful experience at Potomac Nail and Day Spa since this Covid crisis! From the wonderful and careful attention to the clients and staff safety, Manager, Kristine has taken protocols above and beyond for each customer. Masks are required. Entrances are separated IN/OUT and temperatures are taken upon arrival. Once cleared, you are instructed to hand washing station, where you will be then seated behind a plexiglass partition. ALL staff members are masked, gloved, and have full face shields, in addition to the shielding between client and staff. They have always been above and beyond concerning sterile equipment and contact but this was amazing and I would recommend this wonderful spa to everyone! Thank you so much ladies for a totally excellent experience! You are all the best! Judy Del Priore
Horrible Business Structure. I cannot believe that they are still in business today. It's rather upsetting.
I wrote what I thought was a well written and thoughtful review for a hospital. This was my first review on Yelp. Apparently, according to Yelp's software and algorithms, because it was my first and only review on Yelp, my review was put into the "not recommended reviews" pile. In other words, unless you write reviews all the time on Yelp, they will not consider your review "helpful" or "recommended." To me, that is a scam. I read some of the "not recommended" reviews and most appeared well written and helpful based on similar experiences I had at this hospital. As a result, I knew Yelp, and their software for determining which reviews were "helpful" and which weren't was a complete scam.
I WAS AT THE TACO BELL IN LISLE, ILLINOIS ON FRIDAY 7/20/2010 AROUND 11:45 AM. PLACED MY ORDER STEPPED OUT OF THE WAY TO WAIT FOR IT, ANOTHER MAN CAME IN AFTER ME PLACED HIS ORDER. WELL THEY KID PLACED A DRINK ON THE COUNTER NOT SAYING WHAT IT WAS, I THOUGHT IT WAS MINE SINCE I WAS THERE BEFORE THE GUY. THE GUY GRAB THE DRINK AND LIKE I SAID I THOUGHT IT WAS MINE AND I SAID I DIDN'T WANT THAT ONE SINCE HE GRABBED IT. SO THE SMART KID THAT WORKS THERE BROUGHT MY DRINK PUT IN ON THE COUNTER AND SAID THIS RUDE REMARK DO YOU WANT THIS ONE I TOUCHED IT. MANAGER DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR THE RUDE REMARK, I CALLED CORPORATE ON FRIDAY 7/10 AND THEY HAVE NOT REACHED OUT TO ME.
I agreed to a one year advertising program. I sent an email cancelling at end of the term, sent 47 days prior to end of the agreement. They continued to bill us. I 'm not in accounting so didn't become aware for a few months. Despite my showing him the cancellation email, and the date of the agreement this incompetent and dishonest rep continues to try and justify it. Unbelievable. And the advertising was useless. $8 per click! Waste of money.
They remove valid complaints of businesses that screw people over if the squeaky crooked company wheel whines enough. Specifically I complained about Wings financial taking advantage of struggling families and not allowing them to refinance vulturous HELOC loans. They took my complaint down because I did not do anything other than say they were a bad business. I would have had to write a novel to explain what this poor example of business ethics did to cause me to write a bad review. Yelp caters to corps. All you need to know is they unfairly remove reviews when the businesses hire internet swipers to remove all bad.
These people called to offer free ads. Went through the site with them and they told me what buttons to push to set things up. Next thing I know I'm getting charged large amounts of money. Customer service was horrible. I had to fill out a form and get rejected with no validation. Customer service hung up on me. And there's no responsibility taken. They are rude and just out for money. They have a LARGE amount of bad reviews for a reason. I was conned over the phone. Didn't know I needed to review them because I was signed up for something without even knowing!
Vanaria Landscaping is awful. Tony beats up women who I've personally had to pick up after altercations. Do not let him near your wife or family! DANGEROUS DINK
Yup in tens undestroyed small businesses as they have mine. They are a huge company and well aware and that 1 bad Review is small enough to destroy a business. Especially a new business. As a business owner you know you cannot please everyone and there are lots of liars and fakes out there as well vindictive which is what happened to me. Someone put a false review of about my business who was never my client and yob did nothing to remove it. It is the nature of my business that people for the sake of protecting their identity will not leave many reviews. So it is hard for me to acquire new reviews. One person left a false negative review for me and it has adversely affected my business and after pleading with the outcome move it they have done nothing meanwhile being aware that it has totally crush my business, and having my business lost it is like I spent all this time earning my education for nothing and working hard to raise a business for nothing which is not why my family came to the United States for long ago. The people working there and the representatives are heartless and don't understand the impact of their business on other businesses. They forcefully put your name in a listing and if you ask them to remove it they say no because it's protected by free speech and allow anyone to write any craft they you about you or your small business. It's time we stop being cowards and do something about business like this that intend on harming us! Enough is enough!
Never ever answer your phone if yelp call you, they are lier rip-off they eat your money like a cake you call customer service machine answer you, can't cancel your ads until you run out off money in the bank
I never ever do business on yelp again?
AT THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO COMMEND NEXGEN A/C ON THEIR EMPLOYEE RAMON GUITERREZ...
HE IS EFFICIENT, KNOWLEDGEABLE... EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM..
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
