“Their great!”

I'm confused about the negative reviews, I've used them 5 times. Always paid off at the 90 days (same as cash) if you make the regular payments you will be 3 payments shy at 90 day. So I make an extra payment each month. No taxes. No fees. Yes they outsource their customer service to India but who doesn't these days. My only complaint is this isn't offered at enough businesses. Sears KMart and ABC Warehouse seem to be the only ones I know that use it..

I got the Attorney General involved on my account. Misleading contract to say the least. I paid the 1800 plus amount stated on contract. Tempo said I still owed 900 plus to pay off... or refinance thru Sears.

The Arkansas Attorney Gens office got involved. Got an email today saying account paid in full. I threatened to sign the pending civil suit already in the works... over 1560 signers as of August.
But they settled mine before hell broke loose

I would not recommend this company AT ALL. You make payments on time over and over yet your purchase price never goes down. They claim I owe them over $300 for a $500 purchase that I have been paying on for over 6 months. Stay away. You do not want wrapped up in this mess! I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as other avenues to help me.

I purchased a fridge when Sears was going out of business in Oct of 2019. The total price was $800. I put down $300 and "leased" the remaining amount. $900 later and I'm still making payments. When I called they told me the "payments" were essentially just renting it and in order to "buy" it I would need to pay the total amount due of $400. That was not explained at the time of buying the fridge or anytime thereafter. Stay away from this option

They charged my card $800 last month when my purchase was paid for. The monthly amount when I owed was $197. So ridiculous and you can't access the website. Calling there gets you nowhere.

The basic idea of Why Not Lease is great, but there is a serious breakdown between the point of sale and the leasing company. First let's start with there are several states, New Jersey, where I live being one of them that by law Why Not Lease cannot directly sell you the merchandise unless your are willing to by it within 90 days or less. After you have made payments for a minimum of five months, you know have 3 options 1) you can return the merchandise 2) you can continue with your lease but at the end of which you will not own the merchandise and will still be obligated to return it or 3) you can enter into a new contact with a different company through Why Not Lease for an agreed upon buy price. It was never explained to me like this until I attempted to find out about a buy out price after the initial 90 days had passed and I contacted Why Not Lease directly. The breakdown of all the information needed to really make a decision between the point of sale and why not lease is miles apart. The salesperson made it appear to be a rent to own agreement, the same as you would find at Rent-A-Center, Arron's, etc. which was far from the truth.
Like I said if it's an emergency situation, a major appliance goes out, this may be your only immediate option based on credit eligibility of finances. Do what you have to do. But if you are just upgrading to something better, I would try either layaway or just saving. In my case I went to SEARS and got a new snow blower and it didn't even snow this year.
I am not knocking Why Not Lease because it could be an excellent program based on someone's economic situation but if Why Not Lease really cares about anything about future customers, they need to find a way to ensure all of the correct and pertinent information is being given out at the point of sale. Until then I personally could not recommend them to anyone in good faith, especially a fellow New Jersey resident.

I have used this twice to lease items from Sears. I've paid both items off within 90 days and I found it to be a good deal. If you lease it more than 90 days, you are a fool because you will be playing probably five times the amount your item is worth. Just know that if you plan to pay it off within 90 days, you must pay it all at once. They don't let you make partial payments for the 90-day payments.

I reached the 5 month buyout at $687.50 but chose to continue renting and paying weekly. Called back 2 months later to find out what I owed which should have been less than $687.50 now. To my surprise the rep said I owed more totalling $706.95. He could not explain why. He got a supervisor who asked me how I was doing. I said, "Not good". Just like that he switched me over to the survey. No one tried to call me back but I called and got another rep on the phone who had no record of my buyout being $706.95. She told me it was last $687.50 as my records indicated. She apologized and said I could buyout for $412.50... which I did on the spot. In 7 to 10 days I should be receiving a confirmation letter and she gave me a transaction number. I'm still leery waiting to see if they will continue to take the weekly payment though I owe them nothing now. I would not recommend this company. I think they are stealing money from customers. Awful experience.

Tip for consumers:
Don't do it.

This is a total rip off, they tell you, you have to make 5 monthly payments. None of these are credited to the purchase price, and you can only cancel; after they have taken 5 months worth of payments from you. Than you have a option to buy it for MORE than the price it was sold for. Its no wonder Sears is going bankrupt, all the Sears stores in my hometown have failed. It used to be a store and a brand you could trust. NO MORE. I will never set foot in a Sears store again.

They will keep charging your account over and over again even when you've paid off the amount and made the number of payments you agree to on the contract. Sears should be held accountable just as much as this crappy company for using them. Total scam. Do not use this company!

Paid off lease after one payment. Item purchased was not delivered as promised so we cancelled our order. Was told it would take 5 business days for the refund to be credited to our account, no money yet. Now it is going to be an additional 5 days. Each time I have called I have been lied to, will not ever use Sears/Tempoe again. Worst customer service ever!

These people don't run business properly. The people in the stores don't know they hidden agenda. They keep charging your account until they feel like stoping. The stores say lease to own but in reality the customers are jus leasing the merchandise and regardless of how much money u have paid out there is no way of ownership I myself have paid them 1300+ for a stove that costed me 400

They state when you lease something that you make 5 monthly payments or 10 bi weekly. After that you call to set up the rest of the payoff which is usually 3 payments of $85. I have gotten 3 TV's a washer and other things from why not lease it I have a TV now with 3 more payments then like always I will call and set up my 3 payments. Great company. I will use them again.

I cancelled a Sears refrigerator lease within 24 hours. I provided Tempoe with the cancellation numbers. Tempoe was supposed to refund my $120 deposit but I never received any refund. I've called over and over and they keep telling me that they paid me the $120 refund, which they have not! Now I'm getting emails saying that a monthly payment of $302 will be deducted from my checking account. I don't even have a lease with them! There is no option to remove my banking information online and when I call they say they cannot do it over the phone either. I will write a letter to Tempoe and formally request my banking information to be removed being that I do not even have a lease. I don't trust them not to charge my checking account especially since I never received my refund. This has got to be illegal, they stole $120 from me and now I'm in jeopardy of having more money deducted from my account because they refuse to delete my banking info from their system.

I leased an air purifier and it was not what I thought it would be. I still completed my entire contract but at the end of the lease because I wasn't happy with the machine, I did not want to purchase it. So I called to see where I send it back. Per my agreement, I was not obligated to purchase the unit. When I tried to lease something else they said I was denied! Why? I completed my obligation until my contract ended so what's the problem?. It's not fair at all.

They make it incredibly easy for scammers to take out loans in your name. I am now struggling to save my credit score because they allowed an identity thief to take out a loan in my name easily then they passed the debt to another company. Verify who you're loaning huge amounts of money to! Shut them down!

We purchased a washer and dryer in January... we made our payments, then the Covid thing hit one payment shy of our 90 day buy out.
They stopped taking payments... I tried to pay online but couldn't.
My wife called and was told they'd stopped taking payments during the pandemic, as a courtesy... we asked about the 90 day pay off option since it had passed, but was never offered.
"Donna" said she would see if they could still honor it.
She eventually said YES, and gave us a total of $548... we paid it, on the phone with her. She said we would receive an email and receipt of paid in full within 5-7 days.
After almost 2 weeks and our account showing the amount and date we paid, but continued to show "scheduled payments", we called back.
Explained the situation, got credit union print out showing "Tempoe" and the amount paid. This guy said he could see where it was paid, but not "finalized" yet, and assured us, another 5-7 days it would be resolved.
Again, 2 weeks later, still nothing. Another call, another person... explain the situation, they "see the payment" but its not finalized yet... Same story, 5-7 days... that was 10 days ago... STILL no receipt showing we paid the merchandise off!
I'm about over the lack of communication and getting this done!

Aside from this, we had a good experience...

The store will compel you to pay lil bit and finance the rest. They'll charge your credit card monthly till you're able to pay the balance. In my case, bought refrigerator from Sears@$900. Put down $600 finance $300. Charge my CC $100 for 5mths till I paid them $300. They using all this big stores to scam people of their hard earn money stealing by trick. When you hear whynotleaseit pls run.

This service was sold to us as a 'payment plan option.' After paying nearly $600 in payments on a dryer that was sold to us for $$629, the buyout price is over $300. Ridiculous! Please don't get into a plan with these people. It's a complete racket! They sell it as something very different. Apparently there is an option to pay off the balance in 90 days and avoid this, but that option was never shared with us.

This is the worst just dont do it... You will regret it... There lease has hidden agenda they will make you pay for merchandise that you no longer have they will turn your account over to collection and it cheaper to just pay them off instead of going to court if it's less than 1,000 stay away
