Avoid Unless Circumstances Warrant It

I have flown well over a million miles with United and have had 1K status for many years. Before the pandemic I had 120 plus points canceled since there is a 1 year time limit on them. You can use these points to upgrade which rarely happens. I have another 80 points due to be canceled this month and reached out to see if I could extend the expiration to no avail!

I traveled over 100K miles last year with United and tried to upgrade using these points but was never able to for whatever reason which is solely in United's control. What is the point of having this so-called benefit, if United controls it and there is an expiration date on it?

I do get pre-boarding benefits which is last in a long list of other pre-boarding groups. I do get complimentary economy plus seating which is a smidgen better than economy but for international trips they are not very comfortable either.

The ground staff is not very pleasant and crew on the plane treat passengers like cattle compared to other international airlines where service is much better, and quality of the food and entertainment is better.

Unfortunately, I am vested and switching gears this late in the game doesn't make sense; if another airline offered to take my status and points and such over I would without hesitation switch and be loyal to them as I have been to United. If you do not have any status with United, does not make much sense to travel with them unless circumstances warrant it.

Newark to Phoenix. Customer service in the terminal told us to call to 800 # waited on hold 1 112 hrs got hung up on.

Paid $142 to ensure my GF who is claustrophobic has an aisle seat for a 9 hour flight. She got a window seat! When bought up to multiple flight attendants, their response was basically sit down and shut up. They then asked us to get off the plane. So, instead of fixing a problem, they made the t worse. 400 plus passengers had to then wait for them to get our bags off the plane. Had they just gave her an aisle seat, we would have been on our way!

They caused 13h+! Hours delay to my parent's arrival (who are in their 60s, travelled for the 1st time and donn't speak english).
It was very stressfull and frustrating. I did not sleep that night trying to help them through out all
These issues, talking to agents and translating.
I talked to the agent on the phone and he kept blaming the previous airline my parent used for the trip from Europe.
He refused to give me his badge number so I can't put any complaint against him. So disapponinted with them. I don't want
Anyboday to experience this, so If you 're flying your parents with united I recommend NOT to do that.

Worst airline ever
October 19, 2022

We booked a direct, round trip flight from West Palm Beach to Chicago in March 2022. It was only by reviewing our flight for Friday the 21st that we found our entire itinerary had changed (no notice at all from United). We now leave an hour earlier from both cities; have to change flights in Newark NJ and arrive four hours after our original times in each city. As stated, we were never notified of the change and when called, United customer service said that it was an "automated change" and could do nothing to assist us regarding the flights. In fairness, the supervisor offered to "request" a $100 travel credit for each of us which I refused because we will NEVER fly United again!

Worst airline travel experience of my life.

My grandmother and I flew on june from vancouver to houston, we experienced discrimination, aggression and the most terrible customer service.
The check out counters at YVR are a mess, when we arrived to the counter after many hours in line the agent didn´t assign us any seats so at the gate we made another 40 minute lineup
We were the last ones to abord and the flight attendants didn´t let us bring our carry on (not our fault, it is the airline fault for disorganized and over selling). We had valuable personal belonging with us that could not be checked in.
We try to explain that we cannot checked the carry on, and a very violent with clearly with anger issues flight attendant tell us, in a very rude way that we are not flying with them.
My grandmother, who doesn't speak english and is a senior was holding her carry on while the same aggressive flight attendant assault my grandmother by pushing her with the carry on all the way to the cabin
When I told an airport employee the incident, the flight attendant denied it.
We end up checking in the carry on and they gave us garbage bags for our valuables they even told us we had to pick them up in houston when the reality was that they went straight to Mexico so they tricked us.
The lady I spoke from customer service told me they could not give me compensation, thing we were not looking for
Weeks later I asked for an update on the disciplinary action toward the flight attendant but she told me she could not share that information.
My grandmother was traumatized after that violent action

As soon as i arived at the Airport. I saw customer is coming towered me asking can i help you. Said yes please. I am here to help. She helped me all the way.
The Pilot was very nice talking when he needed to talk. I didn't see any problem with customer serving in the Plain. They helped me in the Shutter with all my Bags.
All customers were really nice and quite. I will chose UNITER AIRLINE from now on.

Lack of united to assist in cs
September 30, 2022

No commuication on changes of boarding gates-assigned gate 84 n changed it gate 70b without txt'g, almost didn't make the flight-had to run to boarding gate to barely make our departure time, in flight movies were nill/tried for 4 hrs to connect with NO help from the stu's, their response was "keep trying" United entire cs sucked, I've flown with united before and that was bad, this event surpassed it. I will never fly on this airline ever again or recommend it to anyone. Hawaiian airlines had the best experience when flying to kauai and maui.

Do not book with this airline! After our flights had been purchased, the airline forced an additional stop into our itinerary. We had initially paid the higher cost for one-stop flights to avoid two or more stops. But the airline forced that change on us, which turned out to be a nightmare once we were on our trip. Due to other long flight delays and complete cancellations, we spent hours and hours at the airports waiting in lines and running from one desk in the airport to another (in huge airports, it can literally be miles) and dealing with unfriendly, incompetent airline staff. It ended up that we had to split from our group we had been travelling with, we had to rebook separate flights, and arrive at our destination two days later. This is all within the USA! Two days! Also beware of prepaying for your checked luggage. At two different airports, on two different days, we experienced problems with the airline not being able to pull up record of our prepayment. I had to show them my e-mail confirmation in order for them to not charge me twice for mine and my husbands checked bags. I witnessed other people having the same trouble.

I was on a United flight from Phoenix to DC
I payed $1400 for a round trip non refundable FIRST CLASS. I received ZERO cabin service NOT EVEN WATER. After 2 months of going around with United customer service they finally told me my flight was to ruff for any cabin service. So ruff that the pilot and copilot eat because when walking off the plane I could see all there dirty dishes and garbage in the cotpit
So it was so ruff they could control the plain and eat but first class passengers could not even get a bottle of water. I only received miles in there club that I never will use I closed out my miles account and told them to stick the miles were United airlines does not fly.
I even emailed the CFO of United airlines did not even get back that they got it. There service is so bad I will never fly on that cargo plane again
And I am telling everyone to stay away they will just rip you off.

We left Phoenix, AZ at 9:37am but while on the tarmac we had no a/c and the plane had to take off the old way and we were late arriving in Denver. We landed at B55 and our connecting flight was to be at B19. When we arrived at B19 at 12:28 I received a text that the gate had been changed to B94. I let them know we were on the way. I am disabled and cannot walk very well so we got a guy to give us a ride to the elevator that went downstairs to gage B94. We arrived at the gate at 1:11 and the flight was to leave at 1:10 and the plane was still there but they would not allow us to board. They sent us to customer service which really doesn't exist as they said they had another flight to Moab tomorrow but that wouldn't do us any good as we had a train to catch before their flight even left Denver. When I called the company that was to pick us up in Moab the girl said United had 2 flight that evening to Grand Junction and that they would come there to pick us up. That cost us an additional $265 which United refuses to refund instead we got a $150 travel voucher to use by end of 2023 which I hope to never have to use. I would pay more to travel with another airline than use the voucher. You get water to drink but have to buy a snack.

Dont fly with them

I booked a flight and their online system messed up the dates. I called to have it fixed and they tried to charge me over double the cost of the original tickets. They were completely unapologetic and unconcerned with how I felt as a customer so I booked a flight for less than what their original ticket was and almost 1/3 of what they wanted to charge to correct their flight. Their are cheaper and better options. Avoid United.

OMG AVOID THIS SHAMBOLIC AIRLINE

ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS airline! Avoid at all costs. First flight cancelled... no compensation... put onto connecting flight instead of direct flight as originally booked. Not enough time was allocated for layover resulting in missed connection and spending more money on overnight hotels. Rebooked for following day and sat on tarmac for 3 hours... final flight home and im currently sat in airport after boarding and unboarding after some system failures. We're now 3 hours delayed for getting home. Customer service is shocking and how a company can stuff up on so many occasions in one trip baffles me. Will never book with them ever again!

I was about to go to Africa the morning of August 17th, 2022. United was my local connection between MPLS to Chicago. My destination country was asking negative Covid test which we had but United employee who seemed to be enjoying denying boarding for at least three other Travelers both going to same destinations said your Covid test don't have QRC code. This Airline is enforcing a rule foreign country in which we already complied with. To add insult to injury, they reported that we were No Show. To re- book the flight now The online Agent is asking $4,300. I saved this money for three years.

I've got a massage from United said that my flight from Midland to Houston is delayed from 7:15 pm to 11:45pm
But when I arrived to the airport the flight was canceled without email or massage
It was a disaster at that time because I had to find a hotel and a ride to go back at next day

I am only 5'3" and the coach seat leg room is so tight that I could not move! The passenger next to me was 6' tall and had to put his leg at an angle towards me, making it even worse. The customer service staff treats coach passenger as lower than low humans. I was on a flight from Las Vegas to Newark but ended up at the airport 4 hours too early. Even though the earlier flight was paractically empty and my later flight was full, they would not allow me to change without a hefty fee. When I made the request, the staff treated me as if I was bothering them with such a low level request. I will NEVER fly on United again.
