We were planning a getaway for us and our children. My husband just got home after being gone for many months with the military. We used trivago to find our hotel and they booked through Expedia. However, when getting to the hotel we were told we couldn't use our military discount, nor earn our points for staying at the Holiday Inn. We use this hotel often and travel a lot. The hotel stay was the same price as if we were to book it ourselves. Except for the fact we could have gotten our military discount and gained our points had we not used Trivago/ Expedia. So, in essence we spent more then we would have if we just done it all ourselves. We will never use this again nor recommend our friends too. We are large community of military wives and families too. So, thank you for reading this and if you're military book it yourself.
Tried Trivago for the first time. Got a very distasteful room for a horrendous price. Will stick to booking.com. Unlike booking.com, there is a third party (another booking agency) involved in the whole process. And this third party takes the money at the time of the booking. And there was hideous cancellation fee too.
Booking.com is so much better. No third party agencies. Can cancel anytime till the last hour of the arrival at the hotel and that too for free. Money is collected only at the end of the stay by the hotel.
Hugely disappointed!
My husband and I travel quite a bit and use this app to help find reasonable hotels that take pets. It seems that half the time we find a hotel on the app that says they are pet friendly but get to the hotel and they say they are not. I had one today tell me that they haven't accepted pets for over three years. I woulda really like to see some updates done to this app. It really is helpful just wish it was more accurate. We have also had a few issues with the hotel not wanting to match the price seen on the app but that has only happened a few times. Most generally they will honor it.
From my experience, there is no advantage to using Trivago. The prices shown on Trivago are mostly all the same across all the hotel booking sites. In many cases if you call the hotels directly, the price is the same and you won't have to pre-pay. Standard 24 hour cancellation policies apply. Way to go! Only a fool makes and prepays a non-refundable reservation for the same price the hotel offers.
I used Trivago for the first and last time. I didn't understand they are only a referral service and don't make the reservation themselves. Add to that they don't stand behind the company they send you to. I selected a hotel from the Trivago map and completed the reservation process only to find that the reservation was made in a motel in a different State. To add insult to injury, I was billed for the room. I found out when I looked for a resolution on the Trivago FAQ that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Since both Trivago and the booking companies are in Europe we have little recourse.
I was looking for accommodations NOT in a city and the site doesn't even have the hotels listed. I looked for hotels in a particular town north of Dallas, TX and the site said there either is no such town or they have no hotels. Mind you, Kayak found several with prices, pictures and costs. This site may work for immediate metro areas but if you want to stay anyplace else, use someone else!
It was a horrible experience. The booking site that trivago transferred me to was a scam, charged me twice, my reservation was not even made. Big thanks to trivago and hoteling.com for ruining my holiday :)
Dear Kate,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
As a hotel search and not a booking site, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties.
Nevertheless, before displaying rates from a booking site on trivago, a background check on the company is always conducted to ensure that their customers have the opportunity find the deals offered on their website. This background check has been completed for Hoteling.com. Trivago does not display deals from any site that does not pass our initial integration check, or where there are any reports that the site is not reliable. No site listed on trivago is a 'scam', all of the booking sites are professional and reputable companies.
As a hotel search, trivago keeps no records of the transactions made through the booking sites and cannot alter or access your booking in any way I am afraid.
If you have not already done so then please get in contact with Hoteling.com directly. You will find the appropriate contact details here - http://www.hoteling.com/ContactUs
If you do need any further help with your booking issue then please get in touch with our user support team at info@trivago.com with all relevant details. They will do their utmost to assist you.

We found a fantastic deal on Trivago for a hotel in Barcelona. Couldn't believe the deal for a nice hotel - so much so that we logged out & back in again & double checked our dates - but deal was still there. 3 nights in a nice hotel in July.
Site took us through to book on Expedia website where the prices all married up. We upgraded to a superior room. Believe we checked information & booked.
Materialised that the links between Trivago & Expedia did not work. We ended up with a $190 booking for 1 night the following day, rather than a 3 night booking for July. Hotel will not refund. Failing to get resolution from Expedia. No-one taking ownership & we are out of pocket & can no longer afford our longed for trip. Horrible, heart-breaking experience.
On website it says Travelodge is 29. I tried to book at this price to find it was booking for November when looked to book now it's over £100. This is very misleading
Receptionist was rude police are always traveling through this hotel because of the drugs A man was on ice and the police arrested him just terrible For my family to witness wouldn't booked this hotel again thanks for reading
Booked 2 night hotel stay through Trivago, actual company doing the reservatio is called otel.com. When I arrived the hotel took the otel voucher, but also my credit card.
My credit card was billed. Called otel.com, to get reimbursement, got run around. Result: I paid $ 315 to hotel and $ 315 to otel.com. I am out $315, plus endless hours trying to get my money back. Wont use Trivago again.
I was trying to get a family reunion together. The website said that the rooms were for up to 5 people, which was not true. So I made the resevation for 4 rooms. When I contacted the hotel to make sure I could get extra roll away beds for our extra person, I was told that they don't put extra beds in their room. I see that Trivago website that they are still saying you can get 5 people in the rooms at that hotel. My reservation was through Reserve Counter.com and they would not work with me at all.
Don't believe what the booking agent tells you, call the hotel and check first...
So much for having a pleasant reunion with my family.
Dear Pat,
Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that you had this issue with your booking.
I am afraid we are not affiliated with 'Reserve Counter.com' or 'Reservation Counter.com' so there is no way that you could have been directed to their site from trivago.
However, if you would like to get in touch with us at info@trivago.com with all your booking info, we would be more than happy to assist you to get to the bottom of your issue.
We look forward to hearing form you.
Kind regards,
Trivago.
The last two times that I have used Trivago to look for hotels in two different cities I have been directed to a different hotel than the one that I want to look at. I cannot make it send me to the correct hotel. When I check the hotel site on a different location the price is not the same as listed on the Trivago site but since I can't get to the hotel listed it has to be showing the wrong price. I will no longer use this site.
OTEL.COM is a full fledged SCAM. They are able to get onto such sites as Trivago and Expedia as though they are another travel brokerage service. When you authorize a credit card payment, they will immediately try to put another (smaller) charge hoping to drain your account and then get an approval pronto which will require you to cancel your card and wait a few months to get it back into your account.
Listen Trivago people, Please keep trivago man the way he was the first time.
You keep trying to reinvent him thinking that sexy is a suit... WRONG! Sexy
Trivago man is the first commercial look he had going on, he was preeminent of
A 70s porn/bad guy stare and THAT was his allure. He didn't know he was cute and
That also helped the allure. Making into a normal guy has you missing your mark
On the reason he was so popular to begin with. Please put him back the way he was,
Mean, sexy and ignorant of it all.
Was nice to have the pool, but would have loved a hot tub to relax muscles after walking in the city. Jonathan at the hotel bar had great personality and was very welcoming. Hotel was clean and concierge service was phenomenal! Hotel was clean and upscale. Valet was on spot. Free breakfast was below standard, but it was free... so can't complain.
Trivago will make a reservation and give you a confirmation number for a hotel and when you arrive there will be no room for you and your reservation number in the hotel's computer it happened to the gentleman in front of us who used Trivago and it happened to us you're sitting on a sofa at midnight waiting to get into our room when payment has been taken off of our credit card Trivago is an absolutely horrid way to abuse your time do yourself a favor and don't use Trivago ever unless you like being extremely inconvenienced
Yes they find the cheaper hotel but they do it because they don't post all the extra fees associated with where you want to stay. They aren't the only website to practice business this way... I will never use them again. I will only get hotels directly from the hotel from now on.
Dear Victor,
Thank you for your message and we appreciate your feedback.
It is important to bear in mind that trivago's American (. Com) and Canadian (. Ca) platforms show prices per room per night before taxes and fees are included.
We have run several tests and this proves to be the most recognized and common way for both retail and online products to be displayed within North America. Therefore, we try to remain as localized as possible for our different users.
The majority of our European and other platforms display prices already including taxes and fees, as this is the norm in these countries.
What you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency.
We hope that this clarifies things from our side.
Kind regards,
James Morrison

Booked with trivago and the website showed pictures of not what I walked into at all! The place stank, had roaches, no remote, was not clean at all. I had to go and purchase bug spray, cleaner and disinfectant, to clean the room. I had no other place to go as I had prepaid and would lose money. My companion has asthma and we asked for a non smoking room and it was obvious somebody smoked alot in that room. Neither of us slept for fear of more huge bugs appearing as did the others. Maybe your corporate big wigs should stay the night in every room you put on your site and go through the sleepless two might we had. Clean a room and try to debug it so that you could at least relax because they got you and yeah my bad I should of thought twice about something being too good to be true. Shame on you Trivago! Lesson learned for me... never trust your site again! Overall rating if I could it would be a negative 10 for sure!
Loveeee the Crowne Plaza in White Plains NY! The manager Stevie-John was extremely nice and helpful. My boyfriend and I stayed for a night and Stevie upgraded our room for free and gave us free access to the 12th floor lounge. He answered every question we asked and helped us with everything we needed. My boyfriend and I stay here a lot and it's always a great experience when Stevie helps us! Highly recommend and the rooms are classy, clean, and definitely worth the money! Thank you Stevie!
Answer: The bottom line is good luck with that. Nobody cares and they may email you back but nothing will happen and i guarantee if you gave someone money for a service it is gone forever. There are so many rip off sites related to Trivago it is unreal.
Answer: Dear Michelle, Thank you for your message and I would be happy to help. Depending on the booking site you choose to make your reservation with (ex. Expedia, booking.com, Agoda etc.) you may be required to prepay for the booking in full, an authorization (hold) on your credit card may be placed, or you may have to simply pay upon check out at the hotel. I would suggest reading the policy of the particular booking site you use, to see how their payment process works. As trivago is a hotel meta-search, meaning users can search and compare different hotels and prices on our site, we pull information from multiple OTAs (online travel agencies such as Expedia or Booking.com) and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to book a room, they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Kind regards, James Morrison Trivago user support.
Trivago has a rating of 1.6 stars from 325 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Trivago most frequently mention credit card, customer service and next day. Trivago ranks 201st among Travel Search Engine sites.
Dear Bindu M.
Thank you for your message, However, you seem to slightly misunderstand what trivago is and how it works. I will try to clarify a few things for you.
Trivago is a hotel search and not a 3rd party booking site. This means users can search and compare different hotels and prices on our site. We pull information from over 260 OTAs (online travel agencies such as Expedia & your personal favorite Booking.com) and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to 'view deal', they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking.
Hotels distribute discounted rates to the OTAs which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel. What trivago does is simply displays them all together, in one place, for users to compare and choose from. Our main purpose is to help users find their ideal hotel, which is why we have several different filters to choose from in order to narrow down your search results to meet your specific travel needs.
We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.
Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose.
I hope that the above clears up a few things for you. If you do have any inquiries or further feedback please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at info@trivago.com
Kind regards,
