Swappa generally enjoys a positive reputation for offering a reliable platform for buying and selling used electronics, with many users appreciating the thorough vetting of devices and the ease of transactions. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly in response times and support during disputes, with numerous customers expressing frustration over unhelpful interactions and unresolved issues. Additionally, complaints about payment processing and discrepancies in product conditions highlight a need for improved communication and accountability. For both buying and selling I consistently have a better experience using Swappa.
Just completed my fifth experience on Swappa: two sales, 3 purchases. So far continues to be smooth and hassle free with solid listings as well as good info on historical pricing. Recommended.
The HTC M8 I bought was just as described with fast shipping. Seller had great communication and even added signature confirmation for me. Couldn't ask for a better transaction. The next time I buy a phone it will be from Swappa again.
Site is very well structured and easy to use. I like how Swappa requires their sellers to upload a verification photo showing their listing code, which makes it easy for the buyer to verify.
I have used Swappa 5-6 times now to buy/sell gently used tablets/phones, and I have been incredibly happy with the result everytime.
Swappa is now my "go to" website for buying/selling gently use electronics
My phone died, and I needed a new one asap! My carrier offered me a super plan but had high prices on phones. I found Swappa, all their listings are vetted for phones that are legitimate. It's hard to trust buying a phone online from a private party, but between Swappa's due diligence and Paypal's buyer guarantees I felt protected. I was able to ask questions of the sellers myself to pick somebody who seemed honest, and ended up with a new in the box phone at a very fair price from a great seller.
After the unfortunate destruction of my beloved Lumia Icon, I required a new device for a practical sum as soon as possible. Swappa provides next day customer service on comments and has a large selection of phones that have been approved by them. My rush for a phone with similar physical specs to the Icon sent me from the rather slim Verizon approved section to the Unlocked section. However, within They do not separate unlocked devices that are cdma(verizon) and gsm compatible from those that are only gsm unlocked. I bought a nexus 5 for its specs and pricetag. After it's arrival I discovered it was "not approved by verizon". After requesting help, I was told"your fault!" by a rude employee who seemingly mocked my trust in their site.
My point: Swappa does not provide enough extremely valuable information on unlocked phones. Leaving it entirely up to the customer to have to use whatever else he/she can to determine if it will... well... even work. Which you should be told.
This is a fantastic site to buy and sell. I have made multiple transactions and all have been great!
I was happy that it's only a ONE time $10 fee to pay to sell your phone it's definitely safer then Craigslist. And cheaper then eBay
Needed 2 new phones to bring to new service - preferred they were identical model for ease of set up and maintenance. Seller was VERY prompt with replies and shipping. All around great experience.
Swappa is way better experience then ebay with minimal fees. I highly recommend using Swappa if you are selling or buying a used phone or tablet.
Wanted a Iphone for my 11yr old without paying full price. I was able to find an iPhone 5 in mint condition for less than $200 no scratches cracks or anything... needless to say swappa made this a safe and secure transaction
Seller shipped quickly and was open to my suggestion when he wanted to ship ground.
Bought a used phone from a seller. Felt safe with transaction, human interaction from swappa members was helpfull.
I was nervous using Swappa for the first time but I read about it on a "techie" site while researching how to buy a used iphone and not get ripped off. Many people had bad experiences buying through Craigslist but some people mentioned that they ONLY buy through Swappa. After watching the listings for about a week and missing out on a few phones that got purchased quickly, I finally purchased an iphone 5s for my daughter (her first iphone). The seller was awesome! Great communication, quick shipping and a phone that was better than described! I'll definitely be using Swappa again!
I've bought three iPhones on Swappa over the past two years. My advice: be patient, don't quibble over a few dollars and expect sellers to modestly exaggerate the condition of the phones they are selling. A phone described as in "great" condition is more likely to be in good condition.
I have now purchased and sold one phone using Swappa. I highly recommend this service.
Even though I had insurance, they didn't have my device in stock. Was able to get less expensive replacement here and fast!
I have bought and sold a few phones with some issues but nothing too bad so far. However I had a situation today that just totally ticked me off. Mainly the response from the staff. A new seller who just created their account listed a G2 for 145.00. I asked if he would sell it to me for 125 which is what the last several G2's sold for and late last night he agreed to do so. So, I login this morning and attempt to buy the phone (an Xmas gift for my Mom) only to find some jerk cut in front and snatched it up. It was obvious from comments that the seller and I had agreed to a sale. When I complained some totally unaware moron replied that if I did not want such as this to occur I should pay full price and never attempt to negotiate a lower price. He also told me there was another G2 I could buy (at a price even more than the original price on the one I missed, and that was of obvious lower quality) In other words I should buy an overpriced device because swappa can't be bothered to create a fair playing field for their business. I did not ask seller to lower the price for someone else but swappa just can't understand why I would be so annoyed. Of course they closed my account when I complained. A meaningless gesture since I wouldn't buy a device through them if they were the one and only place left on the net. Which they aren't.
I ordered a Samsung Galaxy S5 through Swappa and I would recommend it to others as a trustworthy site where they can find their next device. When I received the phone, the website provided me guidelines on checking the functionality and condition of the phone, as well as other important details. This was extremely helpful, as I wouldn't know what to do on my own. I recommend Swappa!

Answer: Very safe, I've bought and sold over 40 phones using Swappa and have only had one problem... When that happened both Swappa and PayPal had my back.
Answer: Yes, you should remove and keep your SIM card when you sell your used phone. SIM cards are tied to your account, so are not transferable. More information and why in our FAQ: https://swappa.com/faq/sell/sim_card_included
Answer: Because they are scammers and a holes. They can't be bothered with you. Awful site. Use eBay instead.
Answer: Swappa guarantees it which goes above and beyond paypal. They are running IMEI checks and they do a great job. It's on you when you receive your phone to go through the phone check list to make sure it's good, checking cameras, microphones wfi, bluetooth, water damage check, things like that. Its really worry free buying.
Answer: Contact Swappa support. If an item is not as described by seller, the buyer is entitle to a refund.
Answer: Most sellers don't ship to African countries. This is because they include a reasonable fee on their prices to cover for shipping in the US, I guess shipping to Africa would come at a higher cost and they seem to be avoiding that for whatever reason. However, you can research and register for a freight forwarding company and have your orders shipped to them. In turn, these companies will forward your order to you when they receive it. As I pointed out before, this is something you have to read about and carefully consider. Hope that helps.
The place to buy and sell newish tech. Safety, simplicity and staff-approved listing make Swappa the better way to buy and sell used phones, tablets, laptops, video games, home tech and more.
