I have been using the site for 2 years or more to buy and sell. However recently there has been a load of problems. The biggest one being with my latest inbound shipment of my items to sell. I sent in 2 boxes in January, they were added in the last week of March. However once I really got to looking at my things I realized some were missing, I contacted customer service by email, some guy named Patrick responded, asked for a list of them. I sent it to him, then nothing, not a single response from this guy. So I looked on the site to see if my items were listed, and they were. I found 21 of my things listed under a profile named Dominique. There were also 4 of my items that I sent that I could not find, so either they sold or stolen by employees during processing. Finally after 14 days of no replies to my emails I found the phone number on this site and called them, they said they were checking with the other seller to see if the items were really mine, and that I should stop emailing them because every time I sent an email to them it would take them longer to sort out. So I guess I see what happens.
Secondly there sure sell feature has gone to crap. They only pay about 10c per item. It cost $11.90 to send a box in and ypu can only fit about 25 to 50 items in box depending on what you are sending, so if you use this feature you will not make anything and will actually be left owing Swap money.
Another problem with the site is the refund or credit offer is complete bull. It reads that they will refund if the reason for return is their fault, like wrongly listed, damaged etc., however I recently bought a tee for my daughter, it was supposed to be a 4t, got it and it was a 7/8. Returned it, and I should of been given a refund instead I got store credit.
Overview... Don't sell on this site EVER. And be careful shoppers.
Update. Remembered a couple more of my things I had sent in, searched the site and found them listed for sell.

Hello Jessica,

We apologize for any issues you had with a recent inbound shipment. If there are items you still need us to look into, please let us know right away. Our SureSell process provides you a nominal payment for items you may no longer want to leave on our site. If you do not accept this SureSell offer, you can keep your items on our site to sell, or request your items home. If you request your items home, the cost will be determined by the weight of the items.

Regarding our return policy, we will provide store credit or credit back to the original form of payment, based on the reason for the return. However, our policy notes, "Also note that if you originally paid with store credits, your refund will be in the form of store credits no matter the reason for the return."

I've also included the returns policy here for reference:

https://support.swap.com/hc/en-us/articles/203331335-Returns-and-Refunds-

If we may be of any further assistance at this time, please reach out to customer service at assistance@swap.com or 630-296-0146.

Selling is a joke!
July 21, 2015

To echo what others have said, the buying is good, but selling experience is absolutely AWFUL! The first 2 boxes I sent I was fairly satisfied with the results. I wasn't concerned with making money as much as I just needed to get rid of items my children have outgrown. (The wear uniforms for school so everything is very gently used). First of all, take a picture of all your items that you send because some of the more expensive items sent " magically disappear" and they claim they were never received. However, I found the very same items, in the same size, and at the same time, my items were posted. The customer service reps, Matt and Ebone are of no help in the matter either. Ebone is the typical Kiss-the-customers-fanny type, so she appears concerned but is incapable of resolving any issue. Moving forward, I was told my clothes would be up for posting within 5-10 days. When I inquired as to why it was taking so long, I got the reply "We are overwhelmed with our new women's category and it may now take up to 15 days" After 15 days, still none of my (children's) items were posted. Sent yet another inquiry only to be told they have been swamped and the processing/posting time would now be 30 days! After SIX WEEKS my items are now finally posted. And yes, items are missing from this box as well. Half were rejected and I am certain they were in good condition and all were professionally ironed, They literally throw all rejected items into a pile and take a picture of it and post it for you choose to donate or have it sent back to you (In the wadded-up pile) with a added-on fee for shipping. It is a great concept, but SWAP.com is typical company that has flourished and become a money-hungry mongrel. I hope people will soon see their dishonesty to their sellers and move elsewhere - There are many other online consignments that are very honest and up-front.

Bad experiences, both selling and buying. When buying, beware - sizes are not accurate, descriptions are not accurate, brands are not accurate. Bought a pair of slacks - well, for all their "high standards" for acceptance of used clothing, these slacks REEKED of patchouli oil. There is no way this could have been missed, the stench is enough to knock you down. Four washings have not shifted the stink and they're going into the trash. I've had similar experiences with other garments - wrinkled, dirty, worn, not the brand or fabric described. Lots of items listed on the website are crumpled, as if they were pulled out of the bottom of the massive pile of clothing they show on their site as their "sorting process". They don't bother to steam or press them to make them look decent.

Selling: when you send clothes to be consigned, they say lots of things aren't up to their standards (guess they want them drenched with patchouli oil), even when they do meet the standards. Now you can't even set prices for the things they do accept - they do that, and they absolutely lowball. The longer the garments are listed, the lower the prices go, until you only get pennies for something that doesn't sell fast. Then they charge you for shipping. You won't end up with much. I shifted from direct deposit to credit on site, thinking I would do better that way, but for the last year, the clothing on their site is simply ghastly, far from in style and often wrinkled and gross looking. I haven't spent a cent of credit.

Swap.com hasn't been accepting consignments from individuals for over a year now. Lots of retailers are dumping the clothingthey can't sell there as well - you find multiple listings in different sizes of the same garments. That is some factory outlet store dumping the trash even they can't sell to make a couple of dollars. So if you're just a lowly person wanting to do something other than sending used clothes to a landfill or to a charity to be torn up for rags - you're out of luck. Gotta make room for all that out of style Lane Bryant rubbish.

Then there's always that wonderful patchouli oil reek. These people put on the dog, but they don't deliver, for either buying or selling. Stay away.

I had been on the swap.com site since it was originally called swaptree. It only swapped media, (DVD's, Music, books, games) it WAS perfect. Every person I swapped with was good. I, myself had 100% saticfaction as well as most of the people on there. There was a few(not many though) that had very low scores but like ebay you can see them before you accepted the trade. There was also a place for you to explain why your item was listed as it was such as... new, like new, good, acceptable... So you new what you were getting if you took a chance on swapping something "new" with something "acceptable" it was your choice, I did often and when I received the "acceptable" item it was as stated and I was pleased.

The set up they had was what it is meant for a real barter system, then they brought the market in, which was like a door to fraud and misuse lots of scammers. I personal only swapped through the market once and it turned out great. But I joined for the media and that is where I stayed.

They shut it down and let the Swap valet take everything over.
BUT before they shut it down, about 8 months before, any and all information that you had on the site, you had to update. Not a problem, right? Wrong! They would not allow you to update anything, they continuously requested it but wouldn't accept it. But then if you were offered a swap you could not accept it nor could you initiate one.
Then their customer service FORGET IT, there is none. If the people who were the customer service agents on the media forum that still run the Valet forum, I wouldn't trust them with my dogs fleas let alone anything else in my house I would be willing to swap.

Like most things they took a working model of something that was WORKING and decided to break it.
I would never refer anyone to Swap Valet, I did already refer many people to swap media when it was running and I also know they all left as well.

I sent no less then 30 email to the customer service not once did I receive a response other than the automatic computer response saying that they received my email.

I wish I would have looked at this site earlier for reviews abut swap.com if I had I would have NEVER used them to sale my clothes. I sent in 98 items to swap.com in two separate bag most of the clothes were sets. Out of those 98 items 13 were rejected in the first box and 11 in the other (and all items sent were very nice some even had tags on them, none of the items with tags were uploaded to my page) 22 items total were loaded. Now its November and I they received theses items in September. I understood that it would take some time so i'm not too upset about that. But what i'm pissed about is the fact that they can only account for 46 of my items! So I called and spoke to someone about it and I was told that they are more than likely not done with my box but the last time I called this same girl told me that everything was uploaded. So i decided to just search through all items that were posted in the size that i sent in, and low and behold I found 6 of my items on another sellers site! So i called back and spoke with the same person and told her what I had found so then she tells me well we will have to contact the other seller and ask them if theses items belong to them. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The seller knows they don't belong to them but priced them anyways so there is no way they will be honest about it! And that only accounts for 6 of the missing items WHERE THE ARE THE OTHER 46 ITEMS? So i'm "supposed" to be receiving a call back today to let me know of their findings. But after reading all of the other negative comments I'm not holding my breath and now i'm also worried that they will ruin the items that they rejected before they send them back to me. I took pictures of most of the items before i sent them in so hopefully this will help me, i plan on fighting this company in anyway that i can. The concept of the site if wonderful but if you cant do it right don't do it at all! I really think a lot of us should get together and do something about this company! I would have been better off going to Once Upon a Child and selling my items as I normally do.

I've gotten some great stuff at great prices from Swap.com. However, I'll never shop them again after a recent 2 orders, around $360 total, where there were about 5 items total (out of 40 some) for which I should have received an original payment refund. Swap is not "accurately describing" 80% of their items due to not enough pics and info, then when you get something you weren't expecting ("Oh look, this sweater that appeared to have standard sleeves in photo actually has batwing sleeves with french cuffs" - and - "Oh look, this suit described as Black is actually black with bright red pinstripes that don't show up in the photo"), Swap considers your return of that item as "you didn't like it" so Store Credit is issued. The real problem is that they aren't describing their items in enough detail, so every purchase is a gamble. Also, I've noticed after ordering more than 30 pairs of pants from them (I gained weight and changed jobs, needed pants) that their inseam filters are NOT correct, and often I will receive pants that are shorter than the minimum 30" inseam I set filters for. Again, this is seen by Swap as "it didn't fit," therefore store credit is issued. IT DIDN'T FIT BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT ACCURATELY DESCRIBING ITEMS.

Never again, it's not worth it. ThredUp.com has nice used clothing for sale with much better customer service. I recommend shopping with them instead.

Swap hasn't accepted inbound shipments for over nine months. They lowered the pay for sellers at a paltry average of 10c per garment if the sellers elect to cash out. Sellers receive less money for their traditionally sold goods. Swap no longer ships items in a logo-emblazoned box/bag but in a standard brown cardboard box/plain gray bag. They no longer send refunds, but instead, issue a store credit for returned items. Investors have reneged most likely because there is little if any moneymaking potential. Swap has laid off almost 200 employees, who have filed a class action lawsuit, alleging that Swap has violated the WARN Act. Swap's lowest sale prices on ladies' tops have fallen to $2-$3. They have increased special/clearance sales to multiple sales per week, with many of their listings recognized by frequent buyers as never-sellers. (Don't they ever get rid of stale inventory?) Some items appear to me to be randomly repeated to boost inventory numbers. Swap is posting information such as supposedly having almost caught up on inbounds by September, 2018, yet they are still refusing inbounds. They've posted denials that they are closing, but have given a single-word reason for layoffs as 'financial.' Overall, Swap appears to be liquidating. They are obviously focusing more on income rather than outgo. In my opinion, all the aforementioned signs point to eventual business failure. If you have a store credit with them, use it ASAP. Tomorrow they may be gone. Don't expect a warning. I do not revel in Swap's woes because I've enjoyed buying and selling with this company, and want to continue doing so; however, I perceive unreliability and it is very unsettling. I wish that Swap would either return to business as usual or hang it up.

SwapValet
August 14, 2013

SwapValet - just not what I came to swap.com for at all.

Swap had an awesome system of "i want this book/dvd/game. Oh hey, do you not want it anymore?! How about I trade you this?" - I came to the site exactly for that reason. I was tired of finding sites where I had to accumulate points to get one book that I wanted.

As many others have explained, SwapValet is just a mini version of Ebay. I also had trouble getting customer service with my SwapMedia account (out of the blue, my credit card was no good) - they wouldn't get back to me on trying to update my account so I could resume trading. Then it made sense - they didn't care. It says on their site they removed SwapMedia because it was making no money...

"The reason for terminating the service is that the Media service is not sustainable as a business. It simply costs more to keep running than it brings in revenue. The fairly long history of the Media service has proven that users are not willing to pay enough for the service to make it sustainable. And because the Media service is a commercial service, not a public service or a volunteer operated service, it just cannot go on like that."

I never got an email where there were options being discussed of how to work the system to make it more profitable for them. This was something I DEFINITELY would have given some input on, what I am willing or not willing to do to stay with the site. Also, they deleted all of my information from my original Swap account when they closed Swap Media (really dumb. No "valet" convenience there!). I miss swap media :( it was perfect. I'm just sad so many people are missing out on the awesomeness that it was.

If you are looking for a mini-ebay - go try it out. But if you were looking for somewhere to swap your books, etc. I do not recommend.
