Rip Off

I got a call from a phone number that I didn't know. Having an issue with an annoying ex that rears his head from time to time, I wanted to see who the number belonged to. They claimed to have information on this number. I paid $9.95 for the information. What did it tell me? Absolutely nothing of use! No name, no address, nothing! How can you say you have information on a phone number when you don't? Like I really care if the carrier is Verizon! What good is that information? This is information on the neighborhood. So what? Don't waste your money!

I signed up for their e-mail search by accident ($14.85 for three months) when I wanted phone search and was told there was no way to switch the subscription and that I could purchase the phone search for an additional $14.85 for three months.

BUYER BE AWARE: every type of search you want to do is an extra cost with Spokeo; there is no all-in-one subscription; example: e-mail vs reverse phone vs name vs address; each search type has its own pricing plan. So I advise everyone out there to be very careful when you are signing up with Spokeo as they do not make this clear enough during the sign up process.

Internet Scam

Spokeo is a scam. In the big print, they advertise various search functions for a modest price, on a per use basis. In the fine print they enslave you to a big recurring charge for services not one in a thousand will use frequently enough to justify the charge. Basically, they are preying on people who don't review their credit card bills.

Unauthorized charges

If you accidently click on something, Spokeo will do a charge of $49.95 without even alerting you that there was going to be a charge because they already have your credit card #. After you pay to join Spokeo, all you get is names. If you want more info you have to pay for it. You can find the same info for free on peoplesmart, com whitepages.com or pipl.com etc

In order for a Spokeo subscription to be created, a user must navigate to our website at www.spokeo.com and either click on the "Sign Up" button or perform a search and click on the "Get Full Results" button. The user would then be required to enter in a full 16 digit credit or debit card number along with the card's matching security code, cardholder name, card expiration date, and card billing zip code. A valid email address is then entered that becomes the username associated with the account. Once this billing information has been entered, a Terms of Use agreement is checked by the user and then a "Purchase" button is hit. Once these actions are completed and the information is verified as valid and matching, the user must then fill out a brief survey and set an account password to begin using the subscription. Total ripoff

Cannot get in touch with anyone. I wrote an email and left a message the first night I ordered the trial. The site kept asking for more money and it charged me 14.95 and I just got billed. 17.95 this month.

Don't waste your money

I was supposed to be charged just $0.98 but ended up being charged £13.91 for what was supposed to be a weeks trial! What a rip off! Worst rip off company I have come across. Also a waste of time because they did not give me any info apart from the state (which I knew anyway).

They try to get you to join the auto debit plan and give you crap for results. I got more info from my own searches then they did. All they provided was city and state. What a ripoff!

You will be billed for $19.95 whatever opt outs you choose. Customer service refunded half of this but I'll contact my bank about this charge. Very polite to me but a sleazy operation. How much do they take in before you realize this charge?

I threw away about $35 trying to access an ex-girlfriends social media to see if she may have been chatting with someone other than me
Or cheating on me. What i got for about $35 was nothing more than a past and present address, i already looked that up for free on the internet. Total rip-off. What a scam, i wish i had been smart enough to recognize the difference between a B. S. ad/rip-off,
And a legitimate information service. Oh well, you learn from your mistakes.

Never, Ever use this company. If you sign up and cancel they will still charge you. Ever thing is wrong about this company. I read the agreement stating I could cancel anytime hassle-free online, which I did. I should have know something was wrong when I cancelled and didn't get a confirmation email. The information is of not much use either.

Spokeo is spot on, on their research but are very cheeky when it comes to canceling your 7 day limited trial. They either give you to a 500 Error when you try to unsubscribe, or if you use a backup link it sends you to a 404 Error. They make sure to make it as hard as possible for you to unsubscribe; my advice is if you can do everything else free, do it that way, and avoid this waste of time.

I payed $0.98 with a credit card to reverse look up a phone number.

A month later I review my credit card statement and see my $0.98 charge to Spokeo, and then another charge of $19.95 to Spokeo for "Subscription".

I called my credit card company to dispute the charge. My credit card company called Spokeo, we had a 3-way phone conversation and Spokeo agreed to cancel my subscription and refund my $19.95 payment.

Just another BS company trying to lure people into an automatic subscription, with automatic monthly charges to your credit card.

This is a dishonest company DO NOT USE THEM. I did not sign up for 19.95 a month AT ALL. Spokeo hit my credit card and is charging me that amount and from what I've read they will do it until I stop them. I've already called my bank and reported the fraud. I had to do this because Spokeo says to cancel what they have inflicted upon me requires I have a login -- I DO NOT HAVE A LOGIN with these ripoffs.

This company's disclosures regarding the use of its service are not clear at all. I used the service to obtain a quick reverse look up of a number. Then, you are automatically signed up for a 7 day trial. However, I never received any type of email regarding such. Apparently, it is buried in the long customer agreement.

Of course, when I called to question the $19.95 charge, the representative informed me that I was now a monthly subscriber, since I did not cancel within the 7 day trial period. Of course, they kept my $19.95.

This company needs to be much more transparent. At a minimum, it should send you an email that your 7 day trial period is about to expire.

I will never do business with this company again and will be certain to share this with everyone.

I should have checked the review first before I signed up at Spokeo. I closed my account an hour after I signed up because their search doesn't actually work. I got an email after that I will not be charged but they charged me two months. I called them and they said because I closed one feature of the account and not the other one. What the hell is the other one but the search engine? I ended up paying for the two months and the interest on my card because Spokeo won't reverse the charges. Waste of money. They are scammers!

I did a reverse number search for. 99 and now they are charging me 17.95 a month. I complained to the company and told them to unsubscribe me and reinburse me my money and they recharged me another 17.95.
