I had an overall good experience with their services, except when I visited Barcelona last year.
Their office manager wouldn't rent me the car I had already paid for and reserved because I didn't have my return ticket printed yet.
I was intending to rent a car on Expedia and chose Sixt Rental as a an option with originally good reviews and an indication that reservations were fully refundable if cancelled before 24 hours of the reservation date. After reserving and needing to cancel due to a family emergency I found that the company would not fully refund my rental fee and demanded a $100 fee for canceling. This fee was never explained. I found this extremely deceptive if not illegal. Expedia was complicit in this to my view because of the way in which they presented the option on their website. I cannot recommend this rental company and warn users of Expedia of this deceptive presentation on their website. In the future I will make my reservations directly with a specific company where I know they will be fully refundable despite the higher cost.
Like most people who reviewt sixt I wished i read the reviews before i rented from them.
I rented a car and returned withiout a scratch, i even made fotos when i parked the car.
I asked them if they can come and inspect the car they said they have not enough people,
Later they said there was a scratch and it is my fault, on my fotos there was nothing.
You guess the rest.
Looks like sixt makes its money doing stuff like this.

I rented a car from Sixt in Ireland in May / June 2023. Against my better judgement I took the extra insurance so it cost twice what I reserved. Brought the car back a day early, which they acknowledge, but they refuse to charge me only for the time I had the car, so I am out 52 Euro. And customer support essentially told me to F off!
The very very worst rental car company in the world… I flew into LAX last year … they would not pick us up at the airport … they said our reservation was for downtown LA, not the airport and told us to take a cab … we tried to cancel our rental … but Sixt customer service was rude and nasty … we got another car from Enterprise instead … much better … Sixt then stuck it to us and refuse to refund our money
Moral of story… don't get Stung by Sixt
My $123.85 total rental price ballooned to $278.28 (I did purchase $50 insurance). When I called the company to ask about the $60 fuel charge, I was told that was $8/gallon. The girl who rented me the car never explained any extra charges. Service rep informed me it was my responsibility to read the agreement. NEVER again. Another company sticking it to the customer with hidden charges.
I recently rented from SIXT. The initial duration was for 19 days.
My plans changed and I returned the car after only 4 days.
The agent told me that I would receive a refund (about $650) for the unused portion of the rental.
SIXT subsequently refused to refund ANYTHING. No explanation. Just a refusal. I tried to call their customer support line which was busy for days.
I WILL NEVER rent from them again and am spreading the word to ALL of my friends and acquaintances.
I view SIXT as thieves.
I would give a negative 0 no stars if I could! I rented a vehicle from Sixt, upon getting to a gas station saw that there was a huge bubble on the side of my tire. I called them because I didn't want yo have a blow out. I found a receipt in the glove box of previous damage and a tire repair. This tire didn't match any others on the vehicle and was an outdated, used tire. A tow truck had to bring me a new vehicle. 6 months later I receive a bill asking me to pay 2,000 for towing and damage done. I have AAA and would have never called them had I known I would be billed for this. I sent proof, video and pictures of the tire proving that it was this way at time of rental. They wrote off the towing but want me to pay for a $212 for a tire that I did NOT damage. After one month of going back and forth they sent me to collections for $212. I will NEVER rent from them again nor will I ever recommend any one else to rent from them.

Got a car from them August 2022, unfortunately took the gas plan and sadly didn't use the gas. My returning the car with a full tank was my fault, them not helping their customer out and making an exception to refund the fee for the gas they didn't have to replenish leave me with a bad feeling about them and not wanting to ever use them again.
I was charged a smoking fee $400 had the van for one day returned it the attendant went though the van and found no problems. I get an email saying there was a strong smell of smoke and pictures of what I believe is ashes on the seat and the floor of the middle row. Mind you it was just my wife and I. We got the van because it was cheaper and only needs it for a day until we could catch our next flight. This was after we just returned a car that we had for 4 days and returned with no issues. The charges my card for the first rental then refunded it then charged it again and refunded the $200 security deposit then instantly charged me for the smoking fee $400 plus an extra day. I finally got that back. But the $400 I'm still fighting for. Customer service says they have nothing to do with the locations and the manager's decision is final. The location doesn't have a direct number how convenient and customer service sucks. Next step is the BBB and a lawyer.
We had the best service by Elizabeth at DFW. She made sure we had a vehicle that would work best for our trip to Colorado. She went above and beyond for us. After cancelling a week in advance for a rental January 10 in person at CVG, I was still charged full price ($158.80). After contacting Sixt several times to request a refund, they have still not rectified their error nor acknowledged their mistake.
Bate and.switch on the booking, Additional undisclosed charges and fees, after the car return, they claim damage to the car after a few weeks after I returned the car. I would not do business with this company and its affiliates ever again, even if they pay me.
They offer teaser rates on "premium vehicles." The problem is they don't tell you about all the add on charges. $15/day for an extra driver (to photocopy their driver's license?) $4/day "customer facility charge." Totally bogus. $58.96 for "O5", whatever the hell that is. "AP Concession Recovery Fee" $61.91. WTAF is that? So, a $54.19/day rental rate turned into $102.93/day. Even after "prepaying" for the rental a month in advance, I got stuck with an additional bill at the end due to all the hidden charges. Avoid this company like the plague.
I had to cancel my trip to California because they were shutting down again for Covid 19. I got total refund from Air Line and hotels but not Sixt. I had a car rented for 7 days but they still made me pay for 3 days with a cost of $100. I sent in a request for total refund because of the epidemic but they kept sending generic responses to my emails. I will not use this company again. They are benefitting from this. Shame on you guys
We rented a vehicle for a week after we returned the vehicle our cc was charged with an extra $90+ dollars and a doble charge of $110. We called the customer service with no respond. Then we dispute the charges with our cc and they charged the cc again. At the end a rental that should be no more than $390 en up in almost $700
Keep an eye on this unprofessional company they are out there to still your money
The most bad experience I ever had with rental companies for over 25 years of renting cars. Simply never again. Faking on car delivery (car delivered at night with scratched alufelg) and search for artificial reason to charge the client (each 8 mm scratch charged for 95 euro). Such experience I had with Sixt in Portugal, when taking the car from Faro and returning in Porto. Service of manager in Porto was on not acceptable level. Refused to contact by phonet the Sixt workers in Faro, giving a statement that they work and don't have time to talk. This manager service was below any quality level. It had place in July 2016.
I am not surprised that after such treatment, people don't want to rent a car at all any more.
I recently needed to rent an auto while in Arizona. I was quoted a price online and once returning the car, the price was as quoted. Also, no hassle, no trying to add extra coverage etc., Spawntae was the best! The car that I was supposed to rent was not available, so Spawntae upgraded our car at no extra charge! I would highly recommend SIXT and I will definitely use SIXT again!
We hired a BMW from Sixt in Italy over 2 years ago with full damage insurance included.
Now after 2 years plus their dept collection angent in Germany are chasing me for 609 eu for: extra paint work damage they found: They say they contacted me within 2 mths of my hire, they did not, When i asked for more evidence of the said damage all they supplied was a damage " tick " sheet.
After many emails to and from their head office in the UK i have been told that i should only contact their collection agent in Germany. I don, t think so!
In my view they have got to be the most untrustworthy hire company on this planet.
My next ( non) action is to wait and see what action the collection agent takes i e. Legal proceedings etc.
