Well, I had to switch from Chrome to Firefox, that was kind of awkward. I hate that I have to pay for stuff, but I guess as long as I'm looking for somewhere to live, I'm willing to fork over a little cash. It will probably be mostly useless, but I want to make sure my messages go through.
I run a martial arts studio and above our dojo we have a bedroom that I’ve been renting out on Roomster. I gotta say that this site is so easy to use. I literally just put the pictures up and set a price and the people come to me I don’t even have to lift a finger. The messaging suite is so easy to use so I don’t have a problem communicating with people on the site.
I've been using several sites and platforms to look for roommates and this was the first one that paywalls at every turn. I understand the one for ID verification, but also your price for that was noticeably higher than your competitors.
But really, charging to message people? I understand the interactions are happening within your platform, and you would then need to support the web servers to upkeep the service. But this kind of is a level of financial gatekeeping that roommate searching (and reality in general) has a problem with.
I payed for 5 day trial and later that month learn that they charge automaticaly $29.80 for the following month cause I didn't cancel the subscription and It was in their terms. What a waste! And the messages from the people you don't get right alway. Very in useful site and didn't work properly. The idea is good but so SNEAKY! I hate this site!
Charging money to see my own messages is total nonsense, and if I have even the slightest bit of trouble cancelling my subscription when I don't need it anymore, I'll be furious and be sure to never, ever reccomend your website.
I just got a job for a concert promotion company in Austin and I was living in a suburb about three hours away at the time. I commuted for the first week until I realized I need a place, and fast! I went online to see what my options were and I came across Roomster. The site was simple and the layout was intuitive. I made a profile and looked through a few listings for a few days and started messaging different users. Soon enough I found a really good deal on a very affordable room in a place. Couldn’t be happier to be living in the big city now! Excited for this next chapter in my life.
Needed to find a roommate desperately after my rent got hiked up. After searching for candidates on craigslist and getting nowhere I found Roomster on Google and it was a breeze to use. I set up my account and listing within a few short minutes and within two weeks I found a great roommate to rent my spare room. It worked out perfectly because I wouldnt have been able to afford the rent going forward on my own.
Despite searching the entire Chicagoland area with the only search criteria being the price, I got a whopping 18 hits (in fact, with no filters whatsoever, there was STILL only 87 hits, for a region that spans 27 kilometers).
While there are search criteria such as "doorman", "electronic security", or "garage", there's no basics like pet-friendly, washer/dryer, or dishwasher. Despite being based out of New York, it seems more tailored for the UK.
It's a pretty useless site, and whoever they hired to respond to the negative reviews really needs a class in Public Relations.
I lived with this guy who was a little weird and very controlling — the kind of person who desperately wanted you to think he was chill but was the literal opposite. He and his girlfriend would have extremely loud sex to Pandora's techno station, but because he did not have a subscription, in the middle of them going at it you'd hear "Nchnchnchnch — advertisement: Are you a vampire? — Nchnchnch." Anyway, between having sex to techno and vampire ads, he would break up with her and then call his dad to cry/yell about how she was a horrible, immature person. I finally decided I didn't have to live with this crap anymore so I started doing research on good places to find roommates. I ended up finding Roomster through a different site but I went with them because it seemed like they had a lot of rooms available and the prices weren't bad.
I had a roommate who was a "DJ" (or thought he was). He would do LSD a few times a week to come up with that "dope new track." Sometimes I would come home and he would have a blond wig on, no shirt, and toilet paper hanging out of his ears. Eventually I had to kick him out because he tried to solicit a prostitute on craigslist and the deal went bad. Real bad. I put the room up on Roomster and a few people answered the listing rather quickly. I ended up choosing a sweet girl who had just moved to town. Couldn't be happier.
This is an update to my first review where I gave 1 star because they charged me when I had already canceled and wouldn't refund me. I am updating to 3 stars since they did eventually refund my full purchase. I would just say to think about it. I had to pay to read messages people sent me. Come to find out they didn't really send ME messages... you just get "messages" when new people join matching a listing you may have. None of the people you get messages from respond back... likely because they would have to pay too... The messages I got were not about my listings so I paid to see global messages. If you do the trial, be sure you cancel right away so you don't get charges the membership full price.
A friend suggested I try Roomster when I was looking for a place to live in NYC. I had tried going through a broker but what they were asking for a fee was outrageous. I went on Roomster and figured it couldn’t hurt to buy a trial subscription to test it out. I was so happy I did. Their site is so easy to use and before I knew it I was looking at all these great places to rent.
Had a really great experience with Roomster, put a deposit down on a new place but had to find roommates to make it affordable, I made an account on Roomster saying what I was offering and what I was looking for and it helped me find two great roommates! Very happy this site exists
Subscription renewal is unclear. Shall I be charged $24.95 if I do not cancel the 7.95 subscription? That is obviously a scam design to charge when people forget to cancel. If I cancel, can i buy another $7.95 subscription?
I got emailes thru Craigslist but obviously designed to subscribe to Roomster.
Navigation in Roomster is not user friendly.
I pay the 7 day subscription to check out the app, and after 7 days the charge me with 30 USD for another 7 days... and gues what? Is a total waste of money, you can't find anything!
Lots of scamers get subscribed to find victims, so this page facilitates fraud and take your money without your approval.
STAY AWAY FROM IT!
If you sign up for the 3 day period they will automatically upgrade you to the 30 day period without warning. They could atleast say hey your subscription is about to expire & we will renew it but no the just take it
This is just not an accurate representation of the subscription process. When you sign up you can cancel your subscription at anytime, even immediately to avoid any future payments. You have to agree to this twice just to get your payment to process, we do in fact send you an email reminding you to cancel if you do not want any future payments, this goes to your onsite logged in helpdesk, as well as the email address you signed up with. If you had contacted customer service, i am sure that this would have been explained to you as well as a refund offered. Roomster has live 24/7 customer service reps, so i am surprised to hear that you are not 100% satisfied.
It is a bad scam! Do not use it!
I got a message from a stranger saying "she" found my list in Craiglist. It told me to use roomster because "she" rented out her property from there in few days. I thought to give it a try. After I sent my message to all potential tenants, I got no response for a while. Finally I got a mail saying a new message was waiting for me but I had to PAY to view. I chose the 15 day service and paid $14.95 just wanted to see. The message seemed no sense and after I replied I never got response back! To be worse, when I logged in again, there is NO message in my mail box! - the fake message is gone. I then found I was automatically charged $29.95 after 15 days and there is no notice, no receipt for that! I sent email twice to the "7/24" customer support complaining the situation and I got no response at all! I hope someone can stop this business so no more people would be trapped like me!
You cannot read your emails (and therefore get in real contact with anyone) unless you subscribe for their paid services. Once you do, they write in small letters that actually they will continue to bill you until you unsubscribe (even when you pick what appears to be an installment for a set number of days). And deactivating your ad doesn't mean you have cancelled your subscription, you have to follow a bunch of "additional" steps to reeeaaally cancel. Just stay away! There is enough services that are user friendly and are not out to get you for your money.
I used to have a rabbit called Hope, I came home one day and my housemate looked me dead in the eyes and told me, ‘Your Hope is dead.’ I had no idea what she had meant until I went into my room to find the rabbit dead on my bed. My housemate had randomly snapped and killed it. I left that place the next day. I stayed with friends for a few weeks while I looked for another place. I ended up finding a really great deal on Roomster for a room to rent super close to my job. I met up with the person who created the listing for coffee beforehand to make sure that they weren’t crazy, lord knows I didn’t need to deal with any more traumatic housemate experiences. They were great and we get along extremely well. This site is great.
I signed up on Roomster to find a Room near South Florida. Within 09 days I found a nice looking Room that I aspect. Roomster charged my credit card $14.95 but, I'm so happy with their service and I found a beautiful Room near New York that I want. Thanks Roomster...

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

Without know the specifics i can not comment further, but wonder if you were looking for a roommate, room or apartment. Did you contact our 24/7 support help desk?
