This app/site creates fake users who will message you. They will create profiles of attractive people to send you a message. Then, you are not able to view their message unless you pay a fee. Once you pay the fee and try to read the message, the user is inactive due to violating policy. Every guy will get a message from Amanda, sometimes Amanda K, sometimes another letter. Do not use it! It is all fake users to trap you for a paid subscription!
All the emails I got was fake, I tried Dream-mate.com and found a great room. You get to speak to a live person and they give you landlord information the same day. I moved in the next day. Roommates.com is a SCAM

I had moved to Denver from Las Vegas and because of an abrupt change in my living situation when I arrived in Denver forced me to find a place to live in a city I knew no one in immediately I was desperate. If you are looking to rent a room, stay away from the address above. The Owners mother lives in the house and is a control freak. There were 5 women that lived in the house and the mother tried to control our lives, from what we did to what we are allowed to eat in the house. She constantly asked where we were going, what time we were going to be back and if you refuse to do anything she asks of you, you will be evicted. This happen to me and two of the other girls that lived there. BE WARE! Don't let this happen to you.

I heard about roommates.com and it was the best 20 bucks I've ever spent. I found the perfect roommate and the perfect house in a week, and it was so easy to use! Thank you so much roommates.com. I would use you in a heartbeat if I ever need a roommate again.
From first hand knowledge, I want to warn others (who are thinking about becoming a paying member of Roommates.com) on how this website does business so that they won't waste their time and money on it as I did. As a paying member you would expect that nonpaying members could read your emails sent to them. The only way a nonpaying member can read emails of a paying member is when they too become a paying member. Since the website does not tell you who the paying and nonpaying members are, a paying member may (as I did) spend hours sending emails to nonpaying members not knowing that they are unable to read them. Since very few people become paying members, it would be wise to go to other roommate websites that does allow all members (paying and nonpaying) to read paying member's emails.
This is the second time I have used the service and I recommend it to everybody. I have used it to search in my neighborhood and across the country. I gave myself enough time to get to know my roommate and research the area and have yet to be disappointed.
I paid for premium subscription, $20, and after it ended I was wondering why I hadn't got a single message. I sent out at least a dozen messages to people.
I clicked my sent box, and it was empty. Apparently none of the messages that were CONFIRMED to have been sent were in my sent box, telling me none of them actually went through. I sent a message to customer service about this, explaining I felt cheated since I paid $20 and none of my messages went through (Even though it said they did.)
Their response was to say "You probably didn't send your messages right."
I sent another reply, explaining in detail how I sent the messages, keeping the support ticket open, and they never responded back.

Same as every other review on here. Went through the whole process of setting up an account, got an email the next day which I wasn't allowed to read. I thought about sending this person an email explaining that I'm not a paid member but I assumed they were not either so just didn't bother. And why is it so expensive? Six bucks for a three day trial? I'd rather be spammed with ads than pay for something I'll only use once. Such a waste of time.
Protip: If you're going to set up an online business that charges a subscription fee, you really ought to mention that before making people create pointless accounts, otherwise you're just gonna piss off a lot of people and ruin your business.

Thank you for assisting me to find an excellent roommate. This site is very user friendly, and I was able to navigate through it perfectly. When I have questions about my account, I can send an email, and I got personal responses withing 48 hours. My current roommate is my 5th using roommates.com. I had to pay to find my roommate, but I would rather pay for a quality roommate, than use a site like Craigslist. My thinking is if you are too cheap to pay the small amount of money to talk to me, then you are definitely not the roommate for me.

This is a great site to find good quality roommates. I have been using it for 16 years! Its much better than trying to use sites such as Craigslist that seem to have much riff raff. Its worth the 20 bucks you pay to be able to read your emails. If you are too cheap to pay 20 bucks to find a room then you arent the roommate for me!
