This is the only roommate website I've encountered where I regularly get scammer emails. In fact, the vast majority of my emails have been from scammers in one case from the same one twice after it changed its user name after having been detected. On two occasions after my premium membership expired and I paid the fee again so I could read my email, I checked my email and guess what? Scammers. I really think that in a case such as this some consideration should be given to those who've paid the fee just so they can read their email only to find that it was suppressed by the Fraud Department. This strikes me as highly suspicious. I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone.
The tools roomates.com provides are easy to use and very effective. The only con is the people advertising rooms for rent most don't even reply but only the serious ones do. But my experience with Roomates.com was first rate. Thank you for offering such a great service and tool.

I had 4 weeks to find a roommate. I paid for 1 month. I found 3 different people interested and ended up finding a roommate whom I really like in just 3 weeks. After a month or so of inactivity, they automatically deactivated my account. I know not everyone will have the same experience, but I have 0 complaints and I'm very satisfied with this service.
I've used the site in the past and it worked well. This time, they took my money, sent me one email with matches and will not even let me sign in. I've been trying to cancel and I can't. I finally sent an email to email that sent the matches, and I haven't heard back. I'm going to have to report them as fraudulent. This is too bad because they were a decent site in the past.
5 years ago I used this site and it was great. This time this was my experience. One roommate changed his address told me he was on his way and never moved in, the other moved to Chicago, I had another try to play the let my boss send you a check cash it and you send me the balance scam and another person contact me trying to scam me for steam giftcards where the fbi got involved. I contacted roommates.com and they refused to provide me a phone number and said have the police email them. If you want to be targeted, stressed out and involve the authorities then by all means use this site. I deleted my account and will never use this site again, it's a nightmare.

This was a good site a few years back so I tried it again. Went through the motions of paying for a month since that is how I found my last roommate. Within 5 min. Of signing up I got a scammer "couldn't meet me, wanted to send a contract in email, totally bogus address etc. etc" Everything the negative comments say in here are absolutely true. It gives me recommendations Miles outside of my radius, Most guys who want a room want a single female "18-45" with a room, Most guys who have a room for rent want a single female "18-45" to move in, Most females who have a room for rent want a single female to move in (at least this is understandable). So, yeah, if your a single female "18-45" I guess this is the site for you. I've messaged dozens of people and have had ONE respond, "Thank you HIllary" even though it didn't work out. I have my matches wide open, and there is ONE guy, good ol' Jim, who doesn't care who moves in but as of now hasn't responded to my message. You would have better luck on Craigs list, don't waste you money... Unless of course, your a single female "18-45"

This site throws fees at you every step of the way. They charge to verify your account. They charge to read profile information. They charge to view full size pictures of the roommates and the apartments. They charge to read roommates profile bio's. They charge to send and read messages between roommates. All that for a measly number of matches to begin with.

The % of people who use this site to find housing is tough to gauge. I have an active listing for a room to rent, but less than %30 even bother to write a story. Of those that do, the story is so lame like "i have my own transportation", it makes me want to cry and orlaugh and write poetry. Make it a pay to use platform for everybody and your ratings will take off. As for allegations of false listings, clearly there are some, but my feeling is that the source of these is outside predators. My experience has been so poorthough that i do not plan to renew my subscription.

I signed up to find a room and did not receive a single response from anyone having a room to rent. Instead all of responses were from people like myself that were looking for a room. I contacted customer support several times and got just lame excuses. I do not recommend using this Poor Service.

That is happening because you clicked the option 'Find a Place Together'. If you decide that you just don't want to mess around with this feature anymore you can easily opt out of this by editing your profile and turning off the 'Find a Place Together?' option under the "Who" section of your profile.

Roommates is an exceptional website to find a room to rent. I had less than 30 days to find my room. It was great to have the capability to use their search criteria, to put in a city, and the radius of miles from that location. It's easy to set up your profile, and put in the information that is applicable to what you are looking for. My Roommate contacted me, his criteria matched what I was looking for, so it was a win/win situation for us both. I have been using roommates.com for 4 consecutive years and each time I have found the perfect roommate. I like how it gives you so many options to find exactly what you are looking for in a roommate. I only reach out to potential roommates who have a photo and fill out their description/ bio. I also like that it it matches you up with people who are in the same price range you are looking for. That way you can eliminate those who don't meet your requirements. Time saver!
I, actually, used the site for just one month (During The Month of March 2019), and was helping other individuals find decent, affordable places to both reside and share (together).
The site was very user friendly, and the Roommates.com customer service is just absolutely incredible (A+++). I definitely recommend the site to anyone needing to find good roommates for a shared residential situation.
There are other sites that do really connect and are FREE. Here, you pay $16/mo or $30/60 days, to see the messages, but there' another catch: the other part has to pay too! No real matching, you just get any city in the area, although you specify what city you're interested in.

Your matches will be within the radius that you chose around your main city, so depending on how big of a radius you chose there may be additional cities within your radius. Paying for a membership does allow you to read incoming messages from other members, but you can send messages to other members for free and include your contact information if you would like, so at least one of you would need to pay for a membership in order to communicate outside of the website.

I paid and what ever they show was not true. This a scam... do not pay for this site. At the beginning before paying the membership, it shows what you are looking for, but when you pay those offers you can never find them.

Members activate and deactivate their profiles daily depending on whether they still need a roommate, so the selection of what is available will change on a regular basis.
Posting your profile and sending messages to other members with your contact information is completely free. Paying for a membership makes it so you can read your incoming messages from other members, so one of the two people trying to communicate would have to pay for a membership.

He found my ad and for the last couple of months, we kept in touch. He's as nice and friendly as I expected. Thank You to Roommate.com. I've now posted my larger bedroom on here.
I too was highly disappointed by this site. I was paid member and only response I got was from a scammer. I tried lot to find a room mate on this for a month and ultimately gave up. Nobody can wait whole life to get an accommodation. Totally useless site. Don't waste your money, time and effort on this site.
