I have nothing but bad things to say about this Manchester based scam company. They sold me full insurance on a new rental in January 2020, I was told to settle the damage fees with Avis/Budget in case of any accident & the rentalcars.com would refund me in 2 weeks. I was rear ended in a non-fault accident. We are now in July and they are refusing to settle by saying that the accident paper work is not fully completed. Every time I call them they come up with so much excuses. They are not to be trusted. They are dishonest and very dishonourable and the reviews speak for themselves. Stay miles away and save yourselves money and trouble.

I booked first time with rentalcars.com and learned my lesson well not to give them my business again. The rate they quoted and charged me in advance for was deceiving. It seems like the total charge and it was attractive, but in actuality, it was only a partial payment. The rest was taken by the car rental company (Thrifty.com in my case). The total came close to what I would have otherwise paid for renting directly from Thrifty.com. In this transaction, rentalcars.com got their commission from Thrifty.com, whereas I could have bargained with Thrifty.com, if I would have known it beforehand.

I booked a car rental through rentalcars.com, stating that I would be picking the car up after 11 PM. They booked me with NU Car rentals based outside of the SFO airport. Details they failed to get right were that NU Car rentals are not on-site and more importantly closes at 10 PM. I was left stranded at the airport that night. I was not able to reach anyone from rentalcars.com to try to rectify the situation but did contact someone at NU Car rentals corporate office who immediately canceled my reservation. I am currently in dispute with Rentalcars.com on the charges, which they have so far refused to issue a refund. Renters beware. This company is difficult to get in touch with once the reservation is placed and will give you the run-around should there be an issue with your rental.

DO NOT USE RENTALCARS.COM! I REPEAT DO NOT USE RENTALCARS.COM! Their customer service center is in the UK and they will keep your money and not refund your money if they do not provide the services of providing you with the rental car you booked. 2 years ago I booked a car on Rentalcars.com. The place I was supposed to pick up the rental car at I could not get in contact with them. Their instructions stated when you get to the airport call them and their shuttle will come pick you up at the airport. I called them many times and I was getting busy signals or a voicemail. I even waited at their shuttle bus terminal and their shuttle never showed. I had a friend that booked a car from rentalcars.com last year. He said their rental car facilities are sleazy looking and old cars. He said the rental car he had broke down on the side of the road and he couldn't get a hold of anyone. The old saying goes you get what you pay for that is why rentalcars.com rental fees are so cheap. I have even tried to get the charges disputed 3 times from my credit card company and rentalcars.com rejects it.

Only got a 40% refund

I booked a car for 4 days for Darwin from March 25 and paid $140. The Northern Territory closed their borders and only got a 40% refund. Will never book with them again

Last summer I rented two cars through rentalcars.com with no problems. This week I rented a car for my husband and the rental car company, Hertz, never received the reservation. It was late at night and none of the other rental car places at this airport were manned and Hertz had no cars available. All other rental car locations in the city were already closed. My husband had to spend $96 on a lyft to the town he was supposed to be going to. The rentalcars.com website is completely useless and the 'contact us' page provided no way to actually contact the company. I found a phone number to call but it was disconnected. Definitely going back to renting directly through the rental car companies in the future.

I rented the car in dusseldorf through rentalcars.com.
I paid a deposit through credit card and i photographed the car that had scratches prior to rental.
When I returned the car, the emloyee told me that I had made the scratch. I showed him the picture I had prior to rental snd he said ok.
When I csme back to my country, i found out they kept 609 euros from the deposit for the scratch!
I complaint and sent the photo I had and they never answered.
I believe RENTALCARS.COM has the same responsibility as the car rental company because RENTALCARS.COM hosts SCAMS like this, DESPITE OFall complaints that they steal your money.
NEVER RENT A CAR FROM RENTSLCARS.COM
NEVER. BEWARE!

Yes, this company is a scam. We arrived a few hours late from FLL to San Jose Costa Rica, and they sold our car out to someone else and charged us the full price. After 2 weeks of bantering about with Booking.com - who we used to secure the car -- we were asked to read some VERY fine print about four clicks through a series of web pages that says that that they will cancel any booking if you are over 1 hour late. Stay far away from rentalcars.com.

Rentalcars.com is a scam. They are crooks. I returned a car 10 days before the end of the rental period, and they have ignored all of my attempts to get a refund. When you try to contact them on their website, they say that they have sent a 4 digit PIN to your email, but they do NOT send it, and you can not go any farther. A bona fide scam. They are actually booking.com, so avoid booking.com also.

It is cheaper to book a car without rentalcars.com

Instead of booking 2 cars, you will be able to upgrade a différent model without intermediary.

If you rent a car without rentalcars.com, you will pay less.

They took the money and didn't confirm the car till I contact with them after 24 hours. No offer of an alternative, they asked me to call the local number, in Thailand doesn't exist. I should have called at my expenses in UK. They never contact me after many complains. Meanwhile the prices of rental were going up as the time of pick up was close. After 5 working days no refund after I canceled the booking.
The first guy at the customer service was supponent, the second one at least helped me to cancel the booking. Stay away is not worth it.

They are offering "free cancellation", but if you cancel (even one day after like I did), they charge you for "deposit" and it can be as much as $100. I highly recommend not using them, contact the car lease companies directly and don't bother messing around with these thieves.

I paid the extra £100+ for total insurance cover just to be put at ease. When we went to collect the car we were told that as that insurance was from a third party we'd either have to pay £1050 on our credit card and if we had an accident try to claim from rental cars our selves which could take a while or pay the hire car people £100+ no refundable. We obviously went for the £100+ as the £1050 would have taken us overdrawn... book the car... take out the insurance when you pick up the car.

Avoid at all costs

Booked a family SUV for a UK holiday through Rentalcars.com, received confirmation for the booking and thought nothing else of it. Arrived at Heathrow to find a car half the size waiting for us. We then had to pay 500 GBP to upgrade to a suitable car as was a couple of days prior to Christmas so nothing really available. Rentalcars.com advised me to put in a claim after had finished rental which I did. They have finally admitted an error on their end however will not be paying any refund as is not company policy. Go direct and avoid Rentalcars.com at all costs.

Beware - Total Scam

Total Scam, they cancelled my reservation in Italy even though I called and told them I would be delayed and then kept my money for the whole month. Fortunately Bank of America back charged their bank and refunded my money after I disputed the charge. Very unethical business. Do yourself a favor and book direct with the rental car company when you arrive at your destination, you will pay less and have the security of dealing direct with the rental car company. I never write reviews but I couldn't in good conscience let other people fall victim to this scam without warning. You're welcome - Anthony Cicerchia
