If like me you are based in Ireland, don't be fooled by the 'International Expedited delivery' costs that appear on checkout of this site. You will pay those, but you will ALSO have a nasty surprise when the UPS package arrives at your door, as I did.

My dress was already a hefty Eur184, then I was shocked to find out I was supposed to pay an additional Eur102.80 in 'VAT and Duty' charges upon delivery of the package. This is extra and on top of the price above, payable directly to UPS.

This is a huge amount of money: in no way what you would expect the vague 'Freight and VAT' to be, as described in Promgirl's (very) small print.

Crucially, at no point was this extra delivery amount communicated to me, so that I could make an informed decision on whether to go ahead or not. At no point this was mentioned in the online shopping process.

So you already pay International Expedited Charges on top of the price of your dress- and the UPS delivery is yet another fee they sneak up on you on delivery. The worst part is that the dress is there in front of you- you either pay, or don't get it. These are just sneaky practices: it should be made absolutely clear that there is another charge to be paid on delivery, and most importantly that this will be considerable (in my case, over half the price of the dress).

I was in touch with the Promgirl customer service on May 11th explaining all of the above, but I just got an automated reply with a link to their terms and conditions. Completely useless, and unhelpful. They were just not willing to get into a discussion about their practices.

So this is my only option to at least help someone else not fall into the same trap. Please make an informed decision before literally being robbed at your door, as I did.

The international shipping option is $35 for the first item. As stated on our shipping page and in the Terms and Conditions, all International shipments are subject to duties and taxes. Custom and import charges are not included in our shipping charges. We do not have an estimate for the fees because they can depend on your location, the item, and the current rate. Unfortunately your country collects that fee for importing; it is not charged by our company. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Poor quality

I bought a dress for my daughter for her prom and it doesn't fit well. The dress was purchased in March for the prom in June. PROMGIRL WILL NOT ALLOW FOR AN EXCHANGE OF THE SIZE AND WE ARE STUCK WITH A DRESS THAT DOESN'T FIT. I am not asking for a refund, just to exchange it for a different size! This company is in the business of selling prom dresses online and will not allow for an EXCHANGE unless it is within the 7 day return period. When I contacted customer service, I was told that a "return" and an "exchange" is the same. The return policy on the website is misleading. I was told that there was a "no wear date" of June 1st, which is irrelevant, because the dress was never worn, and still cannot be exchanged. I do not recommend purchasing a dress from this site unless you are willing to risk forfeiting the entire purchase price, tax, and shipping fee. Ridiculous. I have been shopping online since the inception of the internet and have never given a negative review before. The customer service rep hung up on me and refused to take my calls. I will stick to ordering from reputable websites in the future. If I could give this ZERO stars, I would. This company is not interested in repeat sales. Why wouldn't a company care about repeat sales? Google the phone number and you will find that it is the same phone number for SimplyDresses.Com and BelleOftheBallGowns.com among others.

Note to potential buyers: You are taking a HUGE risk when you buy a dress from this website. I bought the Strapless Short Multi-Color Animal Print Dress for $34. I didn't buy it for any specific event; I stumbled upon it online and fell in love with the design. After reading all the negative reviews, I was very hesitant to make a purchase. However at that price, I figured I might as well take the risk. I bought it on a Tuesday and it shipped out ground on Wednesday. I didn't receive an email informing me it was shipped, so I would advise you to check the order status page periodically. Furthermore, their system only updates tracking information in the evening so if you don't see it right away then fear not. The item shipped from their warehouse in NJ to my house a three hour drive away and arrived the next day. I was pleased at how fast it arrived and that the dress was beautiful and in great shape (looked exactly like the photo). I would recommend ordering larger than you think you need, as I'm very petite (size 0) and the size 3 fit like a glove. From what other reviewers have been saying, I would not recommend ordering an expensive dress from this site as if they mess up, the loss is much higher. If you have to make a return, buyer beware, they charge a restocking fee and you pay for shipping. And there are no guarantees you will receive a credit (their customer service doesn't sound very bright). So you might as well resell the dress or find another use for it. This might sound a little silly considering the name of the website, but I would highly suggest not ordering a dress you will need for a time sensitive event such as prom. From personal experience, it is much better to go to your local dress boutique where your exact measurements will be taken and you get to see the quality of the dress ahead of time. Plus they truly value your business and want to make you happy. I gave them three stars because although the dress is fantastic, I stressed over whether they would actually ship it in the time they promised (or even altogether) and I don't agree with their business practices, notably their treatment of returns (have never heard of charging your customers for returning a product they may not have worked for various factors out of customer control). My daughter had an upcoming prom and I mean in like 7 days. Last dress we bought for a semi put a $485 hole in my pocket. That dress was ordered from a "boutique" in our area. When she said she was asked to prom I wasn't too excited as I knew what it would cost me.
She kept looking online and had her heart set on a dress from a certain website. Now, she doesn't realize internet safety and what scams look like and webpages can make their own reviews. She thought the reviews on the webpage were so great! So, I did my research and found nothing good about this certain dress website and a whole pile of complaints. Buying anything from there wasn't happening!
She brought up PromGirl and again I was hesitant. I looked at reviews from all different review sites and everything said was good. I looked at their dresses and the prices and figured something had to be "off". They were so beautiful and so cheap!
We had to act fast as again, prom was just a week away. (She likes to procrastinate. I kept thinking our seamstress is going to be mad that we were there last minute for alterations.) We ordered a $140.00 dress with the 3 day express shipping. Box came later the next day! Dress was EXACTLY as pictured and fit her PERFECT!
I couldn't believe it! From now on we are ordering from PromGirl! I couldn't be more satisfied with everything!
When your a mom to a teen girl you know what I mean when I say they think nothing wrong of ordering something off any website. They have no concept of how much something is what bills you have to pay that month. When they need something its always last minute! I'm just grateful that next prom season won't cost a fortune as we will be ordering from PromGirl!
