The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and operational effectiveness. Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. While some users acknowledged the platform's role in facilitating pet adoption, the overarching sentiment reflects disappointment in the service's reliability and engagement. This feedback suggests a pressing need for improvements in communication, website usability, and support for both adopters and responsible breeders.

We have 4 adopted cats and 3 others over the last 20 years. My husband & I are both retired and want to give a dog a good home. There apoption fees are insane. They are not the best way to adopt. Go to your local shelter, these people are a step above a puppy mill!
I would not recommend Petfinder for anyone looking to adopt an animal. Dominica, the one you can deal with in the Chicago area is very condescending. If you do use Petfinder, ask for someone else but based on the reviews online you should look elsewhere.
We are 70 years of age and have bee rejected 4 times in 13 months. Dispute owning and caring for 12 dogs between us 7 being pure bred bird dogs.
This site is very disapointing. Now I see celebrity ads here! Done! Joke! Petfinders.com offers no updates even when you sign up to their site. Still looking for a 10-15lb female dog friendly younger. 5 years or under fur bro or sister to adopt & add to our family. Petfinder is definitely not a consistent reliable or link of truly finding a fur baby. Go to local petsmart/petco on a Saturday or Sunday when local shelters loving bring these babies to the stores & have some sort of history of the baby that needs a fur ever home! Shame on Petfinder seriously fall shirt of what they once stood for.
Im so frustrated with this website
I spend hours looking for a dog /6 to be exact
Fill out the forms
I have NEVER heard back
Not on one of them
Not anymore Done!
They don't want to place pets, as all they want is for you to post your credit card information into their database.
Twice my mother has submitted an application to pet finder to shelters trying to find a dog she could give a good home to and love as a companion. Both recommended shelters went through a lengthy process and then just arbitrarily said no. My mother has a stellar history with past dogs, pet insurance, documented vet visits, a 15 year history. You have broken an old women's heart. You people are not interested in placing neglected animals. You really stink.
I have put in two inquiries about adopting a pet. First I filled out inquiries then I was sent the application.
I have emailed since then but I have not received one response. I even emailed one of the shelters asking about a special needs, senior pomeranian. I have yet to hear from shelter. After reading these reviews, I feel this is either a scam or this business is just shotty.
I hope and pray the pets listed are being taken care of.
It's very upsetting to get your hopes up and spend time filling out applications then to hear nothing.
I had an experience with a place that claimed to be a rescue. It turned out that they were neglecting their pets and allowing people to adopt without paperwork or any questions. I made pet finder aware and they did nothing. They allowed the organization which is 4 The Love of Dogs to continue posting and by doing so endangering animals and allowing neglect and abuse.
Daily emails with the same thing over and over. Any dog you have interest in will not be available. A phone call checking on availability of the animal described may produce a yes; but what they drag out bears no resemblance.
No one answers inquiries. Pets misrepresented.they don't exist. Photos a sham. You get your hopes raised only to see it's a fraud. How dare Petfinder be so bold as to advertise and ignore? The best is when they stamp adopted on dozens of dogs yet none are available to adopt.you get sent only adopted dogs. Any way you cut it…it's a dog.
There are puppy mills posing as 'shelters' and 'rescues' on this site. I have actual proof of a puppy mill/backyard breeder that sells on Petfinder (claimed to be registered, changed name multiple times, has only designer poodle puppies, no phone number, didn't answer any of my questions about the organization, fake address, no adoption screening actually done, no phone number, etc. etc etc...). Local people and local vets have not heard of "Four Feet & a Heartbeat" that is supposedly located in Lacombe, Alberta and fosters out their dogs. They are scamming people into buying and fostering expensive dogs. I reported to PetFinder and they did not do anything!
This site can be helpful for finding pets from shelters but they are not a trustworthy site as anyone can post a pet here and claim to be a shelter/rescue. Do your research on which organization you are adopting from! Petfinder needs to do better if they claim to only show legitimate shelter/rescues on their site
Most of the issues people have complained about are the fault of the shelter, not Petfinder. Petfinder is not a shelter. It does not house the animals. If you don't get a phone call or email, it is the fault of the shelter. Petfinder only posts the info the shelters give it. Once you inquire about a pet or apply to adopt one, it's out of their hands. Years ago, I adopted a dog I found on Petfinder. Now I'm looking for another dog.
After filling out the applications, submitted so many inquiries on pets and sent so many emails, I still receive no response. I have found matches on the website, send inquiries to try to adopt the dog(s) and never hear back from ANYONE! Petfinder is nothing but Scam. It's just a waste of time thinking anyone will reply to your inquiries. It is extremely frustrating. It's probably best to just go to a local shelter.
After filling out the application, having a home visit and several matches, I still receive no response. I have found matches on the website, send inquiries to try to adopt the dog(s) and never hear back from ANYONE! Of course, I still receive daily emails showing "possible matches" to my filtered preferences but it's just a waste of time thinking anyone will reply to your inquiries. It's probably best to just go to a local shelter.
I submitted an application to adopt a Basenji called Maeve and I never heard back from them sounds like a scam I really am never going to do this again I got everything ready and blew all my money on dog supplies and puppy supplies it's just a waste of time and I really don't like what they did to me its a waste of time and money and not good
We got a yorkie on a Sunday he started getting sick on Monday then I took him to the vet and they said nothing was wrong with him and now they want me to return him and get another dog because I can't get a refund.Tbey need to close down because this ain't it I will never send anyone else to this so called place!
I wanted to adopt Jay Jay from Texas through petfinders. I was so excited and ready. Never did this online. Won't ever again some drill Sargeant lady decided I wasn't a "good fit" al on her own. Apparently I. Didn't get the email or txt she said. She sent. I don't know why, but I was told to give them 4 days to verify my info. OK, well she called my landlady. All was good. 5 today I called, she kept complaining about my not responding to what I didn't get. A quick chat on the phone and I was quick blown off with a short msg and completely ghosted. I'm literally heart broken. I wanted this dog cause he was in foster and not in a shelter. The woman is a witch without a soul. Havethe perfect environment. We just lost a longtime period this was my chance to have my own. I've been crying ever since. I can't believe petfinders soul coordinator is such a heartless. Witch. At my. Age iknow the kind of pet I want for. Me. And this miss God person Didn't even give me a chance. I don't know how petfinders still exists. Not one good review. What's. Wrong. With that. Bbb is my next stop.
I'm pleased with the finding of my cat on this website. I searched so long. It was easy enough and my new cat is my everything
I found a dog on petfinder site in Azle, TX, that I was very interested in. Their webside is difficult to navigate and I could not tell if my email was going anywhere, I called and left voicemail but no confirmation that any of them was received. I sent another email 6 hours later to a different address and short time later received a very rude email from a person named Sandy to stop sending multiple emails and calls as she was busy and if I was in such a hurry them perhaps I should find another site to get a dog from. I hope they are kinder to the animals than to customers. I wish negative stars were available to check.
Answer: Not sure if Petfinders does this but AdoptaPet.com does.
Answer: They may be a legitimate site but they make it extremely difficult to use and arbitrarily refuse to allow you to use their platform. We started the process to list our foster rescues and it was so horrible that we looked up their reviews. We read many reviews of rescues that were taken down without warning or any reason. They use their staple response of: "We have determined that your group is not eligible for Petfinder membership at this time. Our Terms of Service state that eligibility for membership is determined at the sole discretion of Petfinder."
Answer: The only answer you will ever get is "contact the place/person you got the animal from or who has the animal". NOTHING ELSE.
