Done with Petfinder
February 2, 2022

In September I lost my Shih Tzu and desperately want another one. Put in applications for at least 7 dogs. Got glowing reviews from my vet and references too. Always the same response, dog was adopted. Starting to think this site is a scam. Even thought of age discrimination, as my mom would be home during the week with the dog, but after reading reviews, I think its Petfinder. Guess I'll try to save my money and BUY the dog I want, I'm done with these shelters.

Total scam
May 24, 2022

Like others have said, I filled out an application and got my hopes up when they contacted all of my references immediately. They all gave me really good reviews. Then nothing. I have sent emails, messages on Facebook, and not a single response. I have always felt it is better to save a dog than buy from a breeder, but dealing with these people has been a nightmare!

What a dog!
July 21, 2023

No one answers inquiries. Pets misrepresented.they don't exist. Photos a sham. You get your hopes raised only to see it's a fraud. How dare Petfinder be so bold as to advertise and ignore? The best is when they stamp adopted on dozens of dogs yet none are available to adopt.you get sent only adopted dogs. Any way you cut it…it's a dog.

Something's wrong
October 13, 2020

I understand not everyone getting a reply or approved, however there's something wrong when within an hour or two of a new dog posting the ad is changed to "not accepting anymore applications"
How are people getting an application in so fast. I feel like there's a secret I don't know about.
Already the requirements to work full time from a home that you own is tough enough to accommodate and now there's not even enough time to throw your application in!

Too many missed homes that are deserving by these pup pals.

As an animal rescuer who has personally save over 50 cats and 70 dogs, I was turned down today as unsuitable by PetFinder... even though my vets advocated on my behalf. I have a 19 year old pup and a 17 year old sweetie on who I have spent thousands... and who I would give my life for. The reason? Because my dog does not do well with vaccines--and my vet opted out of giving them. Crazy! Put your money elsewhere... go to your local pounds/shelters and support them. I know I will!

Want to adopt a dog
June 11, 2017

Very bad service. I set up an appointment on Wednesday to see the dog Leon. The contact person told me to meet her there on Sunday between 11-3. I came but she was not there. The pet store I was to meet her at said that she comes on Saturdays. Her text to me definitely stated Sunday. I can't believe what she did and that she doesn't even know who LEON is or if he had been adopted by someone else. I looked for a dog for 2 months on there site before I picked Leon.
Also, this contact person takes too long to respond. Don't use them if you happen to fall in love with one of their pets. You may never get to see them, let alone adopt them.

Waste of time
January 14, 2018

Twice I have inquired about 2 dogs we were interested in adopting. No one ever returned a email or phone call. Applications were filled out. Never heard a word. I feel worse for these dogs. If people are interested and no one responds then these animals sit alone where they. Oils be in a loving home.
Our search continues 3 months later

The way this works (or doesn't) is sad. Very sad. No one gets back to you except the bot email asking "did you adopt fluffy?"
Hell no I didn't. He didn't exist. Then next month he popped up again. No wait. He was adopted. What? You never heard of him? Oh wait. There he is again. What in God's name goes on with this? Run forest... run... buy a dog. It's easier and more humane. Go to a shelter. Do anything except waste time with what appears to be "puppy pumps".

Absolute the worse business on the internet. Trying to adopt a dog and give him a great forever home but absolutely no response. Every link just circles me back to an adoption application and another rescue with a link to the same adoption application. I can't even see where the dog is actually at to call and ask questions since no one responds...for weeks!. Do yourself a favor and search local rescues and find your pet there. These people are a waste of time and seems more and more like nothing but a scam. Just my opinion and experience..

Waste of time
April 20, 2019

They are the reason more people don't adopt, clearly they don't want people to. After spending a long time searching, filling out applications, and emailing foster owners, I finally got a chance to meet some of the litters of puppies. I would drive for up to 3 hours to see them hoping to take one home, just to be told I have to fill out more applications. Never got a call or email like they promised me. I made sure I met every one of their ridiculous criteria and still nothing. I know they want the dogs to go to good homes, I grew up with dogs all my life. They use terrible "rescues" that make it impossible. No wonder so many people go to breeders.

I have been trying to get information on dogs listed with Petfinder. Having done the application and answered all their questions, I still have had NO response to my inquiries. Makes me think there is NO management. Do these people actually get paid?

I don't blame the website but then again I do. They need to work better at the credibility of their users. No one gets back to you and it's extremely difficult to adopt from this website. Also some shelter locations are wrong or missing. They claim to want adoptions but in reality probably have foster parents ignoring inquiries because they want to keep the pets for themselves. They don't respond to you when you show interest or even let you know they received it. Unprofessional people.

My cat died of heart failure and I'm desperate for a companion. But over half the cats listed are bonded pairs but they make no mention of them in the initial description. It also have to repeatable send "introductions" to contact the fosters. There is also no easy way to remove individual cats from your saved lists.

You can spend a lot of time looking at possible pets, reaching out to adopt and having super stupid exchanges with people who really don't want to have their foster dog adopted. I gave up after investing a stupid amount of time trying to adopt through them. I am back to the shelter - where you can actually take a dog home. If it was truly tinder - it might be more fun!

Just for show
December 28, 2019

Don't waste your time and go to a shelter. Choose one of your options. No reply. Only want a donation.
The one that actually replied refused to let it adopt because it drawers money at events. Seriously? They would rather have the dog spend its life in a cage over money. It's websites liable these that make me prefer breeders.

Twice my mother has submitted an application to pet finder to shelters trying to find a dog she could give a good home to and love as a companion. Both recommended shelters went through a lengthy process and then just arbitrarily said no. My mother has a stellar history with past dogs, pet insurance, documented vet visits, a 15 year history. You have broken an old women's heart. You people are not interested in placing neglected animals. You really stink.

Like so many other reviews that I just read... Pet finder is the worst site to adopt on. There are so many animals that are in need of loving homes... but they make it so hard, with no response to any emails. I mean what does one have to do to adopt a pet... no wonder people buy pets, instead of adopting... Nice job pet finder for having readily available adopters giving up...

Dog adoptions
September 8, 2022

Well now I know why there are so many dogs without homes. You cannot adopt if you are in an apartment, sometimes you have to have another dog, fenced yard of a certain kind etc. There are so many restrictions it is ridiculous. On some dogs they charge a large adoption fee so you could actually buy a dog cheaper from a breeder. I have literally spent almost two whole days looking to rescue a poor dog and I am ready to just buy one! I have loved my animals and they were with me 11 & 18 years but i don't qualify with these people!

So if your told a certain animal is available and to fill out an application in good faith not taking into consideration that there maybe as many as 20-50 other people interested in the same animal spending the same $15.00 non-refundable application fee makes for a pretty good profit on there side just to advertise the animal and keep the applications coming. This is just my opinion but the chances of getting the animal you want are slim at best. I believe if you don't get the animal you applied for or one you agree on you should get your money back since I believe they are using this cost to fund there operation so why not keep the application flowing.

We have filled out 3 applications and tried to find out about 3 different dogs. The only response we have gotten is petfinder asking if we adopted that specific animal yet. Apparently they do nothing with your application. No wait, I do get email from Purina now. Other then that, I recommend you go to the shelter site themselves. But honestly they are not much better. We have been trying to see dogs for weeks. But we will not give up, we love dogs.
