It takes them an inordinate amount of time do to anything. The website for specialty is terrible. It always times out. I'd give it a zero if I could.
This has got to be the poorest run company in the world. No one cares so don't expect anything. They should really just shut the doors. I hate them
My doctor writes a script, they fill it once, then cancel the script, even though there are refills left. Dangerous.
My meds don't arrive on time. They poach scripts my doc sends to local pharmacy! Everything's a mess
They need to teach these people to tell the truth I always get 5 different answers and watch bank account they charged me double twice
Ordered a refill on January 1st for a heart medication and informed them that I was going out of town on January 6th and needed expedited shipping. I was assured that would be done. On January 3rd, I received an email stating my order was shipped. On January 5th, since I did not receive the medication, I went to my local pharmacy and asked for an emergency override. Was told they could not do that. Called OptumRx and was transferred several times and subsequently was told they could not authorize and emergency override because I had no more refills available and needed a new prescription. All this because OptumRx did not follow through on their saying they would provide expedited shipment. The medication in question is Eliquis which technically is a blood thinner and prescribed to prevent possibly blood clots. Without it, I am at risk for deadly strokes.
On a previous refill request, OptumRx dropped the ball also. Ordered a refill and they said I needed a new prescription. I contacted my physician and they submitted the prescription. OptumRx said they never received it, but somehow knew I had a new Electrophysiologist. I had my physician resubmit the order and it was finally filled. When dealing with someone's health, OptumRx needs to be more proactive and insure patients receive their medication timely.
I finally was able to get the Eliquis o January 18th and luckily did not experience and adverse consequences.
Just send this letter to my benefits admin: Sent: 12/20/2020 10:42 AM From: Self
Received a letter from Optum stating I have to schedule a telehealth visit to be able to continue to have access my insulin otherwise I have to pay the full price 1200$/month. Letter is send 12/09/2020 and the deadline for telehealth visit is 12/15/2020. That means I missed the window and will end up in the ER with incredibly high sugars. Can someone explain to me why do I have a prescription drug coverage? Do we really have a prescription drug coverage? From the very beginning Optum was nothing but trouble for me, left me with no medications several times. So right now I refuse to receive andy meds from them and willing to pay a couple of dollars extra to Walmart Pharmacy to manage my prescriptions which they do a great job so far. I have been on the phone with optum almost every month with problem and I AM DONE WITH THESE PEOPLE. I respectfully asking someone as to what is going on with optum, why do I have do discuss my health issues someone other than my doctor. How do they have a right to not cover my meds in the middle of the year while I am still paying their premiums. Attachment is the letter I received from them. Can I just eliminate/drop them off completely and seek my own coverage for prescription drugs?
I have had extensive association with optumrx and an ethical and/ legal team needs to investigate their practices. They are bad!
It has been 6 months since I had to change to this disgraceful pharmacy. Still not sure exactly what drugs they cover and what they don't.

My wife and I decided to take a long winter vacation and try out snowbirding like tens of thousands of Americans! So we needed way to get our prescriptions delivered to us where ever we are. Unfortunately our main insurance company is tied to OptumRx we have no choice unless we drive or fly thousands of miles back to our regular pharmacy in our home state Each month. OptumRx presents us with challenges that make taking a vacation impossible to enjoy. They change how they bill, how they approve and just about anything else that will slow down getting medication we need. If they are not intentionally delaying some they are over prescribing others. Then they try to renew these over prescribed meds when we have a Years supply already from 1-2 months ago. This month they are asking $100 for a script thats only supposed to cost a few $!? Now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place again having to spend hour's on the phone with the off shore call center, contact with the company in the USA is impossible! No way to file a complaint that does anything against them! My wife's one medication keeps her alive it's for her permanent disability, they messed that up this month causing another delay that could send her to the hospital she could die without it. If you need life sustaining medicine this is the worst company to have your insurance company force on you! We only want to see the USA in our older years something all Americans should have the right to without a company like OptumRx putting your life at risk! With inflation today we don't have the money to throw away at this company just to get what we are supposed to with the insurance we are paying for. OptumRx operates like a monopoly they have completed control over your life if you depend on them. Because of the US laws we can't just use local pharmacies they know this. And our home pharmacy is not allowed to mail out medicine. Basically your playing Russian Roulette with your life if you want to travel while needing medicine. Make you wonder if we just have to give up and go to a retirement home and wait? While we still have some life left to travel.
It has come to my attention that as consumers we need to know that Good Rx will discount drugs that are denied by Optum Rx because they need prior authorization you have no idea that the Pharmacy will run it through your insurance get a denial and then it is automatically run through good rx So today I asked why it was denied run it through again thru my plan and tell me what they say about why they have deied the claim sir you need prior authorazation you need this auth to have it payed for so I sujest your provider needs a seack of formd to add
This is a distributor company for a drug plan. They are impossible to talk to and get the orders wrong all the time.
Still, no meds it is crazy that this company can not feel more for its people. My meds are my way of life, and this just is not right.
I never get my meds on time, I run out of my meds all the time bad company I will not send anyone to this company.
Terrible terrible delay after delay and no meds do not use unless you don't want your meds, it has been two weeks
Never deliver on time, packages lost, do not care of you get your medication on time, Notify you to refill but dont do it. Horrible
They have too many hoops to go through to get your medication. You get different answers from different people.
They can't solve my problem, they put me on hold for hours, they don't call me back. Terrible service
On multiple occasions the preauthorization representatives gave both myself (patient) and my doctor false, conflicting information. They refused to let my doctor do a telephone preauthorization request although the literature they sent clearly states that she can do this. They repeatedly transferred both myself and my doctor to the wrong departments. They also said that after a medication appeal is approved or denied they don't have to notify the patient and the doctor has to call Optum Rx to find out if it is approved or denied. However on one occasion prior to this incidence a customer service rep did call me to say that my appeal had been approved and I could go to the pharmacy to pick up the medication. The preauthorization process is unreliable, contradictory and does not comply with their written literature. The worst thing about my Medicare advantage plan is having to use Optum Rx. It could cost many patients their lives! Their needs to be a detailed medical review by CMS of COMPLAINTS ABOUT OPTUM RX and an Open forum for patient to register complaints and those complaints should be individually addressed AND RESPONDED TO.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
