I am new to Optumrx. The first prescription was for 5 of my medications. It was late and I had to go to a local pharmacy to get emergency medications, which I had to pay full price for because I had just 'filled' them at Optumrx. When the prescriptions arrived 7 days later, I was missing one 90 day prescription, only received 60 days. They sent the rest later.
The second prescription I ordered was for a blood thinner which I need as I have had pulmonary embolism in my lungs twice. They received the prescription on the 5th and it is now the 19th and I have not received my medications.
They always say it is because of the shipping not them. I order a lot from Amazon, Wayfair, Walmart and many other companies. I have always received my items within 5 days of notification that they were sent. I have a hard time believing that 2 out of 2 times my meds were late 10 to 14 days because of the shipper.
I recommend nobody uses Optumrx and I will not any more. It will cost me $39.45 a month to go to the local pharmacy and get my prescriptions. May not sound like a lot but when you are retired, you try to save as much as possible. It is cheap for the price for the anxiety I have gone through getting meds after I have run out.
I order a couple at home Covid tests with over night shipping. After a week and not receiving my tests I called the company several times for my tests to be shipped. Each time they promised it would be shipped same day and I would receive next day. This never happened. I was on a tight deadline as I had upcoming travel and ordered it a week in advance and still didn't receive it. I emailed them and told them I'd like a refund since i never got the tests and had already left the country without them. 2 weeks later then sent me a tracking number for the test even though I had already asked for a refund. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
When I call to talk to a representative they are foreigners and you can't understand what they are saying. When I asked for on shore representative they give me a hard time and then have to wait for someone for approximately 5-10 minutes.
I was talked into trying them for an outstanding discount guarantying my meds would be received prior to running out. I received half my meds with the price triple what I was quoted, and I still do not have all the ones I need. I have called them multiple times for hours with no resolve even though the last person said it was their fault and she was sorry. Now I am cancelling the orders I did not get and trying to get my local pharmacy to fill them and struggling as it still shows OptumRX just filled them. I would stay completely clear of this company even if they do promise a cheaper price>
Pay for my scripts by check because of data breaches that has forced me to put a freeze on my credit cards. After they receive my check, cash it and it clears my checking acct., they do not post the bill being payed for 4-5 weeks later. When they call me to remind me to reorder, they tell me I have a outstanding balance that needs to be paid. To me, they need to do a major overhaul of their accounting dept.
Do not, I repeat! Do not ever give them your credit card number, they will charge your meds to your card without your permission. They call you that your med will be a lower price, you say O. K., charge it to my card, then they call you back with a MUCH higher price, you say no! They go ahead and put it on your card anyway. When you call them they lie and say they took it off, but they don't. I called my credit card co. And they took it back from them, now they are dunning me for $106.00! They'll NEVER get it!
Although I am satisfied with receiving prescriptions, the one major issue I have had with them is that it is not possible to change primary care physicians. For some, that will not be a problem but for others, it means that the process is for medications to go to the first physician you had when you signed up for Optum Rx. They will ALWAYS without fail, no matter what you tell them, contact that doctor even if you have not seen that doctor for years and have had a different doctor for years.
They will tell you over and over that their system does support changing doctors but it does not. When the old doctor rejects the prescription, you need to call Optum Rx and provide them with the "new" doctor information. If you have monthly prescriptions, this must be done monthly. It is incredibly inefficient and after speaking to more than a dozen reps, this is exactly how they operate. Truly bizarre and they really should be shut down for safety reasons.
My son needed an emergency medication (which IS covered under my plan) late at night on a weekend when ALL the nearby in-network pharmacies were closed. Optum denied my claim and I had to pay out of pocket (which was very expensive) or my son would have ended up in the hospital. When I explained after the holiday that it was an emergency situation and I needed to be reimbursed (I should have only paid $5!) the customer service person spoke down to me, refused to help and basically told me tough luck. HORRIBLE experience.
I went 3 weeks without my diabetes meds because they couldn't get info correct, I got 5 different answers from 5 different people that could hardly speak English. They kept telling me I have to "let my health insurance pay" and my health insurance said "we don't do anything with prescriptions because your company opted out and uses OptumRx". I have contacted my HR and nothing can be done to let me get my meds from my local pharmacy... which by the way only charges 25 dollars per month for one of my meds, OptumRx is 150.00 for 3 months. The other was 5 dollars a month and OptumRx 175.00 for 3 months. They force you to get 3 months at a time. Ohhhh then there's the "We didn't get the approval from your Doctor" act! It is a shame my local pharmacy tried to save me money by doing a little work to look into cheaper cost for me and OptumRx makes huge profit. Gotta wonder if my main company I work for owns them and is making profit off my health?!
This is the worst mail order service ever. Idk how to switch this but I need to find out. Each and every month it's something new. They sent my meds to an old address I haven't lived in for 2 years. The claimed that the local pharmacy can do an emergency fill for me which theh could not! After being lied to and transferred so many times I gave up. Luckily it was only birth control. I am no longer taking any type of birth control due to this run around. For all this stress dealing with them I'd rather suffer from horrible irregular periods. I hope theh aren't this bad when it come to medications people need to live! Unbelievable.
This company only cares about the insurance company's bottom line and probably receive bonuses every time they deny you a medication recommended by your doctor. This has happened to me 3 times! The last time, Optumrx recommended an immuno suppressant medication in the middle of a pandemic! Fortunately this time, my doctor was successful in appealing their decision. Then they robo call me at 6:00 pm and have me wait of the phone for over an hour! I need to speak with a "patient care coordinator " before they will ship my medication to my doctor so I am screwed until one of their "coordinators" can figure out how to do your job. Whom ever came up with this company is a greedy, lazy douche bag with no intention of helping anyone but their shareholders and insurance companies
I have chronic reflux. I have precancerous tissue of the esophagus due to reflux erosion. These clowns change the formulary and give you no advance warning. My doctor tried with a prior authorization and it was still denied. He wants me to take Dexilant - it works for me and these clowns send me a way to over-the-counter medication. They don't work. And I pay a lot of money for this company's poor service
Absolutely incompetent individuals. They messed up my moms medication home delivery schedule and would do nothing to correct it. He high blood pressure medication was never completed on time. They do not contact the doctors for authorization refills. The app is completely incorrect. You ask them to remove a medication they continue to charge you for it. I had to call United Healthcare to block optum from refilling medications in my moms name. I informed UHC of how optumrx handles patient medications. Do not use this company. They have no problem putting your loved ones lives in the care of incompetent individuals.
Since when is it up to a pharmacy to decide whether or not you need the medecine your physician prescribes? It's bad enought that you need prior authorizations for medical treatments now you can't get lawfully prescribed medication without a fight? Its absolutely shameful almost EVERY medication my doctor prescribes gets denied without a freaking prior authorization. The State of NJ seriously needs to find another plan, this is BS all in the name of saving a buck
Optum Rx denied coverage for gel shots for extreme pain in my knees; but paid $1300 for a fungus cream for my big toe! I went into the donut hole last year, now I see why -that $1300 puts me close now! Am changing insurance plans because of Optum Rx!
It took 3 calls for them to finally get my simple prescription for a statin correct. They supposedly ordered it and a week later I went on the site and there was no record of it being ordered.(that's after 3 calls) So, I ordered it again online and it was listed as NC, but still had to enter my credit card info. I went back to look after it was ordered and there was a charge for $1850 for my med that first was supposed to be NC and secondly that I have never paid more than $6.50 for. Stay as far away from this company as you can, and I can see saving money by offshoring the support, but they are absolutely terrible.
Optum RX is by far the worse pharmacy I have ever experienced in my life. I was placed on hold for 40 minutes and then hung up on me. I called back they still never resolved my issues on hold for pharmacist fir 38 minutes and then again hung up. I am changing pharmacies
It's been over a month I have yet to receive my medication. I chose optimum delivery because I thought it woudl be convenient and reliable. It was anything but. Climbing Mt. Everest would be an easier endeavor than trying to get something simple done by inept customer service agents. They say the call is recorded but I truly think it's not. Not only am I over a month late, I have spent countless hours regurgitating the same issue with multiple representatives saying they would get it resolved, but after each call, it's like they have amnesia, and we start the same converation over, repeat another hour of explaining the issue, and the outcome is the same. Nothing. I think they are waiting for another class action lawsuit untill they get their act together. Charging insurance companies for medications that was never sent, is not only unethical but illegal.
This company is the most archaic disfunctional company Ive ever worked with. They deny every medication the doctor prescribes then the meds they sat they cover you have to have them review the prescription by filling out a form then physically mail it in and wait for them to decide if they will pay for it. They do everything they can to make it a hassle
I have an immune disorder and have been on the same medication for all 23 years of my life. These past 2 months, I've been continously fighting with OptumRX, who insist on putting me on a generic that IS NOT THE SAME as the brand name medication I use. As such, I've had to use said generic, resulting in worse results in my tri-monthly blood work and a worse overall health. Do they care? No. Even when my general physician has repeatedly written letters, DAW prescriptions, and spoken to them on the phone, they outright deny my claim. They're now forcing me to pay for another doctor to simply get my prescription refilled.
Greedy, useless insurance company. I hope the higher-ups have children sometime and they end up with an immune disorder so they can understand how delicate it is and the complexity. Maybe then they'll stop being greedy, unknowledgeable pieces of garbage.
Stay far away from this service if you can. And if you can't, God help you.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
