I bought a powerhouse generator The generator failed to run at a working load of 220 watts for longer than 1 hour. The generator would then start and stop after 5-10 mins and then finally failed to start.
I returned the generator to Northern Tool and the policy is that they will need to test the product, they cannot provide refunds nor a replacement product! The technician tested the generator at a load of 1100 watts and the generator failed (cut out). Even when presented with this malfunction, Northern Tool (manager Myra Galland) advises that their policy is to fix the product, they cannot provide a replacement nor refund. They are also unable to identify what the actual issue is and how long it will take to fix it. I am left with no product nor the refund to use to buy a replacement product. Very unhappy with this service.
I ordered tires mounted on wheels for my John Deere lawn tractor. One was advertised@$27.55 and then two tires advertised@ $69.99 both with free shipping. Well I ordered two at $27.55 it took forever. Three weeks ito the order I called, they said they would notify me when they shipped. I said disregard I'm cancelling the order. Then they sent me an email 5 minutes later telling me I can't cancel the order because the tires and wheels have been shipped. I'm happy with the wheels and tires but not the customer service. BTW they changed the cost of the tires and wheels.
Ordered a truck rack with exact make and model of my truck on their website. They sent me the wrong rack and it does not fit. I'm being charged to ship the item back so then they can issue me a credit. The problem is: I need to pay the shipping back to there warehouse along with being charged a 15% restocking fee!... WTF! Called customer service and politely complained. They said there is nothing they can do for me even though they sent me the wrong truck rack! That's bull$#*!! Shipping the item back to them just cost me $139.00! I'm seriously going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Will never do business with them again! -Ron Kramer

To make it short, I purchased a compressor from Northern Tools mid May, received compressor May 28 damaged. Today is June 12 and I still have not received all of my repair parts. Northern Tool tells I should expect the final repair parts by June 14. My new unusable compressor is sitting in my shop still attached to shipping crate.
Recently bought a 29 gallon portable gas walker online (it was not available in the store and was sent from manufacturer-not able to see it). Upon delivery we found it to be too large to get into our vehicle.
After calling Northern Tool customer service we were NOT ALLOWED to return it to a store in exchange for a smaller one. We had to pay shipping charges 3 times! Original purchase-return of product-exchange purchase. Northern Tool Customer service would NOT BUDGE!
No effort at all to help the customer. They said "it was OUR ERROR--so why should they have to pay for it."
I am an avid online shopper... this is unacceptable especially when an exchange is involved. Similar product on Amazon would have been exchanged without multiple shipping charges. BUYER BEWARE of your online purchases with Northern Tool!
So I went on line to northern tool equipment and was looking for a transmission jack and finally found what I wanted it was a Redline transmission jack (brand name) so it read 499.50 for the jack plus I did the $ 100.00 upgrade with the double tilt plate and added it and went straight check out. And at check out the total showed $ 529.99 and then a $ 100.00 product discount plus $ 25.80 in tax order total $455.79 and free shipping so I order it and my computer screen reads (thank you for your Order) and I took photos of were it shows me ordering Redline transmission jack and the thank you for your order and when I received my order northern tool equipment says I didn't order a redline transmission jack it was some oddball brand without the upgrade,, these guys are rip-offs
Recently shopped at a local Northern Tool Store (2) to buy a replacement log splitter motor. Both Northern Tool Stores recommended a specific Briggs and Stratton motor but neither had one in stock so I had to order one from Northern Tool. The one I ordered is the one I received but it is a lawn mower motor, not a splitter motor, as it has the emergency shut off to be hooked to the handle of a mower. I need the Briggs on/off switch instead of the mower shut off switch that came on the mower. Should be a simple enough fix!? Customer Service is totally non existent! No one answers the phone, no one responds to e-mails, nothing! My advice, shop somewhere else!
Northern Tool is a great way to search for items for your shop without going into the store. Tools, supplies, gardening items. Northern tool has a lot to chose from. The Advantage membership is a good deal, too.
We spent over 3k for a large outdoor tent. We received shipment and were missing roughly 10ft with of tent infrastructure. We told the company and they asked for the part numbers and we explained that the pieces sent created a tent 10ft shorter than what we ordered and the actual tent cover material is 10ft too long due to this so there was no way to build it. They delayed and allowed us to get past the 90 day credit card charge back date then told us that we would have to call the manufacturer which we did. They asked for the order number so we logged into our Northern Tool account and when we tried to view the order we got a "web page does not exist error". This company robbed our non profit for over $3,000...
Order never arrived, called the 800 number, put on hold for a total of 20 minutes. Asked to speak to a supervisor when they did come back and was put on hold again. Then I was told I could not speak to a sales supervisor and was told I was being transferred to a "Customer Service" person. Waited another 10 minutes. The person answering argued with me not wanting to hear my concern and refused to let me speak to a supervisor. I finally got to a supervisor who told me that the small amount of information I had been given by Northern employees was wrong. I canceled the late order and asked for a credit to my credit card.
I will never order from this confused, closed minded, rude organization again.
After chatting with a sales rep regarding a replacement engine for a log splitter, I purchased a new engine. I installed the new engine and almost lost fingers due to the recoil. I took the log splitter to have the engine serviced, and was told that the engine Northern sent me was for a lawn mower not a log splitter.
Upon a discussion with their customer service I was told that I needed to do research, and they only gave suggestions for replacements with no guarantees. The specs I gave the sales rep were right off the previous engine. Not sure what research I was supposed to do. They sent the wrong engine and per customer service it's my fault.
Next Day Air and Second Day Air orders placed in the morning need to ship the same day, not 6:30 in the evening the following day. I confirmed with the person answering the online chat, that the order would ship that day, so I placed order. It did not ship until late in the evening the following day, not getting out of town until the next day. They need to get their Ship together.
Bought a drag, used it once... it is their product line. It has a one year warranty and they said because I used it they would not cover it... it was user error. What? I used it for several hours and was turning the same corner I had turned for the previous 2 hours and it broke... the metal where it attaches to the drag.
I recently ordered a hydraulic cylinder from them, it was not the correct size as listed, which whatever it happens, but trying to get ahold of these people is ridiculous horrible customer service, then they want me to pay for shipping it back absolutely ridiculous. Costs more to ship it then it did to buy it!
I ordered a part from Northern Tool on line according to their description and it matched with my brand and model. Received the kit and the parts did not fit. Called customer service for a replacement, didn't seem to know what to do. Took over a week and multiple calls to finally get them to send me an RMA.
Whe I received the RMA yesterday I have to PAY for the return shipping PLUS get hit with a 15% restocking charge. None of this was my fault, however customer service did not seem to care. Finally got the RMA and I will pay to return just to close this out.

Well, they respond super fast for me. I email them, and the next day, if not the same day, I get a reply.
The problem I have right now, is that I ordered two things. A $99 pipe bender and a $129 pneumatic planishing hammer.
The first, was supposed to ship in the middle of this month. The other says 28 days at longest.
Well, the first still has not shipped. I emailed them. They did respond, but they said they have yet to get them in. That is an answer and I am cool with that. But, I wish they had given me an idea of why and how long it should take to get them in.
I do this stuff as a hobby. I have no clue hot to use the second thing I ordered. Haha So, it really does not matter when I get it. I just like having an idea.
Northern tool at crown point... Don't try to explain anything to repairmen or the assistant manager. They will totally disregard any suggestions and do what they want. If you insist they get things wright the assistant manager will ask you to leave and take your business elsewhere.
Ironton Hose reel cart arrived with box totally mutilated, with parts missing and some damaged. I explained to them that the box is totally mutilated and could not repack it in the box. They ignored my statement and sent me a return label where I had to pay for shipping and re-packaging. I tried calling them and after 20 minutes on hold they put me on hold again for 45 minutes. Still no resolution, Their customer service is deplorable.

Ordered an item online using a visa gift card to pay on 11 May.
I went to the store for pickup after email notification. I was told that the visa gift card was rejected by NT. And the money was refunded after being rejected. And if I wanted the item I would need to pay using my CC. So I paid, taking their word for the problem. After I left the store I called the Visa gift card customer service phone #. They said the money was never returned to the account. So I went back to the store to confront the manager about this issue. They gave me the royal run around. Here we are a month later and they still won't refund the original amount of money they stole from me. NOTHING BUT SCAM ARTISTS!
Bought an Earthquake Tiller from this untruthful company and it was damaged. The rep incorrectly told me to file the claim with FedEx who denied it because NT had to file the claim.
Answer: Absolutely horrible, you get the rub around with emails containing same useless info from multiple people, shop elsewhere and save yourself the stress and anxiety
