Not sure what the bad complaints are about... i have found the loveliest of people and recommendations for services... i also received responses when i found a homeless dog... maybe these folks are not living is a nice neighborhood... very happy with this app
Most people who are on nextdoor.com are just talk and no walk. They praise and appreciate your work all day long and when it comes to action they sulk and back off.
My account has been disabled because I picked up trash in the neighborhood and posted pictures of the trash I found. My neighbors on nextdoor got bothered by this and mostly by the fact that I asked them to come help me, at least bring a big bag. Nobody came to help. I called them lazy and indifferent and someone flagged my posting.
On this site, everybody has to sound the same. If you tell the truth or do more than just talk, your account will be disabled. They don't even warn you. They disable your account then they tell you.
On nextdoor.com, there are people who collect your information. Please do not give out any personal info, if you decide to be on this site. You will never know the intents of people asking for personal info. One lady asked for my phone number saying she will come help me that day with the garbage. I thought she will come help so I gave her my number. She never came and never called me. I am wondering why she wanted my phone number and what her intentions are now that she has it.
Nextdoor.com is a site good for classifieds and lost and found pets but there was no need to make a site for that. There are so many sites for classifieds and lost animals. Nextdoor is not as it claims to be about neighbors and helping each other and together etc.
There is no neighborhood feeling on this site but there is censorship! You are not free to say what you think. It doesn't matter that you did not use bad words or you did not insult anybody, if your opinion is different or you take action (cleaning the neighborhood in this case), or both, your account will be disabled.
Nextdoor.com doesn't care about environment and wildlife hurt by trash. There was a deer with a plastic dome lid stuck in her mouth. I removed the plastic lid from her mouth and some people on Nextdoor sent "thank you" words but none came out in the street when I invited them to pick up trash to prevent this tragedy from happening again. They did not even bring me a big bag to collect the garbage I found.
As a thank you note for helping that deer and cleaning the neighborhood, my account has been disabled yesterday, September 25.
For more details, I will upload pictures with all the garbage I picked up in my neighborhood (Burbank, CA) and with the deer with the plastic lid stuck in her mouth. The story about the deer has been on NBC. The media channel came to interview me on August 9 and it has been aired at midnight that night. Anyway I will paste the link with all the pictures and videos here soon.
God forbid you have a neighbor who behaves abusively, even reporting to Nextdoor itself does nothing! They send a canned response, stating that they'll look into it, and tell you they aren't able to give you any details, yet those verbally abusive people remain. Is Nextdoor THAT desperate to keep members, or are they concerned about the rules they have posted on their own web site? I believe it's the former, based on my experiences with a truly vicious neighbor who has ruined Nextdoor for all. Droves of people have left, yet he remains. Don't bother registering, it isn't worth it. Talk to your neighbors the old fashioned ways-face to face or pick up the phone. I'm sorry I have to leave any stars, if I had a choice, I'd leave zero.
Nextdoor participation is a waste of your time and a threat to your safety. The requirement you provide Nextdoor with your real name, address and email address for them to share with your neighbors opens you up to unstable Haters. With my name and address, I've received death threats in my mailbox!
The reviews here all reflect a consistent theme. Unequal treatment, biased, inconsistent Guideline enforcement, profiling based on race, age, politics, and interpretation of policies. My posts were deleted because they led to discussions. When a handful od dissenters complained, and I mean less than 6 (who organized their complaints), my posts or replies disappeared. When pit bull lovers defended the dangerous animals and others disagreed, the anti-pit bull folks were suspended for being "hateful". Liberal moderators in San Francisco?
One Nextdoor moderator in S. F. wrote me that I need to "consider how my words might be perceived", not the actual words, but "the feelings they may invoke". Yet they deleted my post on death threats.
Nextdoor promotes itself as a place to meet and interact with neighbors. It is a place of shaming, bullying, suspensions/banning, and suppression of logic. It is a place where very young people show overt disrespect and lecture members on their liberal agenda.
You can pick your friends, but never your neighbors. Take your chances if you join.
First bulled/ harrased by one neighbor for passing on information from the police department. Then the lead says Im curious what youre doing to draw such nagitive attention... lol Your answer I moved into ghetto land thats what. How do they pick the ones that run your area? Some of theses people shouldnt be running anything that aquires tact or people skills. Your on a site to help each other and you ask the neighbor thats having a hard time because of the area and ask what they are doing? Then they add the trouble makers they are trying to warn people about. Just plain CRAZY. My advice stay away from this app it basically lets the bad people know where you are and what your doing.
We have NextDoor.com in my neighborhood and I find it GREAT.
Needed help... got it. Found a lost dog. Returned the happy owner within an hour.
Asked for recommendation for a plumber... now have someone close to call and he is terrific. Asked if I could help with shopping for an older citizen... now make trip for myself and 2 others and feel really good helping someone without worrying about strangers. Needed dog walker for a week and met a dozen people asking if they could help out... I could go on but my first question to those having so much negativity and even nasty comments about their neighbors. Maybe you should think about moving somewhere safer and far more pleasant.
So many of you answered complaining and you became one of THEM, complaining about such dumb stuff.
Many use places like Craigslist and other totally anonymous sites buying, selling, giving personal info to complete strangers and you worry about your neighbor nextdoor or around the corner?
So sad. What happened to "know your neighbor" "help your neighbor"?
Many times your neighbors are just a reflection of yourself. You choose to live there telling more about you than THEM.
During a discussion of missing cats, someone from a nearby neighborhood stated that maybe these cats were the ones who had gone through her yard. I questioned her on what she meant and she said that "people sometimes trap and poison cats because they don't like them pooping in their yard". I did make multiple posts trying to get her to state what she knew about people killing cats, ad this is illegal in Indiana, and needed to be turned over to law enforcement. She then stated she felt I was "bullying" her and reported me to Nextdoor, who banned me for "overposting" and not being "neighborly". Now I am not able to contact anyone through Nextdoor to tell them that people in this neighborhood are talking about people killing and poisoning pets. Yes, I have screenshots.
I reside in the Columbia Heights NW section of Washington DC and signed on to NEXTDOOR.COM in June or July. Since then I have been frequently posting about CRIME AND SAFETY issues of suspicious activity on my street and around my apartment building as well as OUTRIGHT CRIMINAL activity that I have witnessed! IRONICALLY, though SOME of the CRIMES involved the VICTIMS reporting the incidents to the police, MY POSTINGS aroused INTENSE animosity from certain "neighbor hoods" that objected to it as being "EXAGGERATED", "DELUSIONAL", "PARANOID", and even "BIGOTED"! After several such responses I have apparently been BLOCKED/BANNED WITHOUT any notice from signing into the site with EITHER of my email addresses with which I registered!
I would NOT recommend a "community" website that caters to the PERPS in the hoods! ALL the site is is a local version of FACEBOOK enticing you to reveal more about yourself to those around you whom you don't even know than you normally would. As I advise about FACEBOOK and all those other social interaction websites, STAY AWAY AND STAY OFF!
Signed up and posted a simple ad and it was removed for no reason. Stupid site. Had to close my account after trying it only for 20 minutes. Too bad they got all my private information!
Received an invite to join the app which purported to have come from my neighbour, as did the rest of the village. I spoke to this elderly gentleman this morning who knows nothing about them, is not signed up, and definitely did not give his permission, and in his words 'I would not know how to use an app', this is outrageous and sharp practice in my opinion. Steer clear.
Just a place to publicly harass your neighbor who looked at you funny. Vigilante justice while turning neighbor against neighbor. No supervision, no guidelines enforced. The wild west of social media.
Go ahead and enter your full name, home address, and profile photo! What's the worse that can happen? It's not like you'll get bullied by HOA members and uptight losers with no lives that have nothing better to do than report you! Sign right up for a great way to build "community" with your neighbors! Invasion of your privacy and personal life? Ammunition used by your hoa against you? Naahhhh! That'll never happen! Come on! Just give us your home address, a photo of what you look like, and your full name! It'll be great! ;)
I am very happy with my individual account and seeing what is going on currently and who has what it looking for what. I am all about helping the community. I love how broad or how narrow you can make your area.
But for a self employed person who is looking for word of mouth business this app sucks. You are constantly attacked to not post it on your individual account and to open a business account. I opened a business account after I was yelled at enough and have yet to have one person respond to that account in 6 months. But when I posted on my individual account I had many responses. Also I have never looked anything up in the business accounts. I look for the individual who is trying to make a go of it.
This is a free app. If people don't want to see info visuals looking for clientele then they shouldn't be on here or there needs to be a charge to restrict those type of postings.
I do not recommend this app to anyone who wants to earn a buck.
We have been fortunate to have great monitors so far. Our local law enforcement and city leaders use to answer questions, neighbors help each other by reporting suspicious activity in their area, leads have been gracious. We have helped each other diffuse angry neighbors by getting them information to help them out.
Sometimes there are stupid and mean statements but so far neighbors and city officials have managed to nip it in the bud.
SO far good. I hope it continues.
I joined Nextdoor a while back because I liked the general concept. Since joining I've realized that it is a site/tool that more often than not is abused by the Leads and users.
For instance, our neighborhoood site is run by a lead that is beholden to our Home Owners Association. Anything that is critical of the HOA or that suggests that our neighborhood is anything less than idyllic is deleted. It's clear that this person and HOA buddies are running the local Nextdoor site for the benefit of the HOA. Nextdoor customer support does nothing in response to complaints.
Racism: We recently had a long thread in our area concerning an address owned by an Islamic school. Much discussion was made of the suspiciousness of the fact that the Islamic school was doing renovations (with a building permit). The talk then veered to Sharia law. I watched the thread for a month before I reported it and none of our local Leads raised a finger
Overall, bad site that brings out the worst in those who are entrusted with its' administration.
Thanks for being there! I get and share invaluable info. I was see the other post. Totally inaccurate!
How sad, something that should be an awesome app is nothing more than a harvesting of personal info disguised as something "good" - I'd really like to know more about this company. How do they make their money - because it's not by helping neighbors. Aside from the few politicos the rest of the posts were canned. Canned because my sister across the country told me about this great website when I moved. It seems the same Fido was lost and then found in her state... seriously, I don't have time for this but I'm pissed enough that I will find out what they're up to and it's not very "neighborly" - at this point they have a low BBB rate and the few articles where from 4 to 5 years ago. Once I unpack, I will investigate.
It's a total joke. So many people there use only their first name and last initial. I got my account suspended after only my second post to the site and I had been on it inactively for YEARS. Apparently I annoyed someone. I wish to keep the peace in my neighborhood and would hate to be doxxed or harassed should some busy body find my other social media accounts and disagree with me politically or otherwise. I LIVE here and I want it to remain peaceful for my family and everyone in the community. It's outrageous that I was singled out by someone who felt annoyed by a post and then banned for not having my entire last name on the site. I set my account up that way for a reason.
Bunch of bickering and fighting among neighbors. The same topic has been up for several days with poor comments one person took up for the company and the ones bad mouthing attacked her like vultures.
Dont like volunteer driven social networks. Biased and nosy volunteers, I hate them. Rather, as others suggested, meneighbour.com may be better. Looks nice and promising though. Will try it out.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
When neighbors start talking, good things happen.
