Terrific site. Great information. Let's always keep politics and religion to a minimum. I enjoy the site and know
North Ridge even better
I have difficulty maneuvering through it. I don't seem to see all the posts. I don't understand why Pine Ridge is so divided. I like the recommendations but don't like the arguments or nasty comments some people make.
I enjoy reading the comments, for sale and free items, and breaking news plus lost and found animals.
We started Next Door soon after we organized Neighborhood Watch-- as a way to easily keep in touch. It's very good for returning stray dogs to their owners or finding competent service people to hire. We were annoyed that we could not get access for our sheriff's dept liaison so that he would be aware of anything we observed amiss. He's not a resident here, but even when we tried using one of our addresses he was excluded.
I am super happy with Next Door. I have started a community garden and crafting group through the site. I love that it helps my neighbors stay informed and get to know each other.
Great help also for pets in need.
I love Nextdoor.com. It is a valuable resource. I have found many businesses and friends on there.
Good for general information about lost dogs, gardening and searches for repair and services. Weak on discussions about local governance such as school districts, municipalities, special taxing jurisdictions, and HOAs.
Talk to your neighbors about whatever is going on in your neighborhood. Offer items for sale. Connect with your neighbors, quickly and efficiently.
I have asked for advice and referrals and I have given advice and referrals. It has been a wonderful way to share resources with others by those who have had the experience before. I trust it much more than Yelp or Google reviews which can be biased and fake.
This is the 2nd time I need to report Nextdoor. The site will go down just randomly for days to a week at a time. Changing passwords never works. Their replies offer useless help, despite my stating the specific error code. They just care about your data to sell; the site itself is a mere way to get your data.
Someone posted a picture of a cat that wandered onto their property. Did not respond to any neighbors inquiring for more information, suggestions for no-kill rescues, speculating that they may know the owner...
Silence of 24 hours. Then the jerk posted an update that "the issues was closed" because it was taken to the pound to the prior day and was to be euthanized within 24 hours.
I call the person out for being a "$#*!". I am banned.
The person that discards the lives of neighbor's pets without any due diligence? Valued member of the Nextdoor community.
I am simply trying to activate my account with my address which I live on the borderline of San Leon and $#*!inson off of Bayshore right across from the saloon and my address doesn't work nor my debit cards address which is to this address so it won't let me verify my address for some reason and it's really aggravating me
UPDATE: Nextdoor saw my review on here and unfroze my account as a consequence. Glad to get that resolved.
At first, I thought it was a good way to communicate with your neighbors without the nonsense you see on Facebook until 15 months ago when a mentally deranged person in another development (she was even a lead in her subdivision) about two miles away from me started smarting off, name calling, and provoked a fight. The fight was over trash pick-up that didn't occur, and she insulted me esssentially saying I should have known and should have known who to contact. (Apparently, most people didn't know because they had set their trash out.) She called my husband names too, and he had nothing to do with the discussion.
So, my account was locked simply because I responded back in-kind over a fight this person I didn't know started. I was told that I could contact them after two weeks and have it reinstated. I was told that all posts are viewed independently regardless of who was wrong. Considering we lived in a highly redneck area at the time, our neighbors overall weren't friendly towards us, and there were several other (far less extreme) incidents of this sort of thing in the past, I decided reestablishing the account wasn't worth it if people were just going to fight with each other.
Fast forward 15 months later, I have moved over 200 miles away. Someone during a homeowner's meeting asked if we were all on Facebook as a means of communicating with each other and about development business. Few were on Facebook. I proposed the idea of Nextdoor. I contact Nextdoor to get them to unfreeze my account. What I've gotten is them asking me at least three times now if I agree to abide by the Community Guidelines and belaboring what previously happened even though it was over a year ago and I no longer live there. Each time I have said "Yes", but they continue to ask in emails that are at least 24 hours apart. I feel like they are purposely trying to antagonize me.
They have no phone number to call them to discuss.
We have hired Superior 1 Contracting LLC twice now and both times have been over the top happy with their work. They are professional and get the job done on-time. No fuss, down to business, great clean-up, and terrific final product.
I've contacted them once a day for 5 days and not a single response. They apparently think it's funny to manipulate someone's account without them knowing.
I was a member of my local NextDoor for a number of years both without issue AND with an appreciation of how it allowed neighbors who are rarely SEEN to actually get to know each other and communicate regarding relevant issues. I actually preferred over Facebook for local events and sale items. However, last November, just prior to the state election, I posted (just to my subdivision only) that my mailbox had been tampered with and posted a picture of what had been put in it. Within eight hours, the thread took on a life of its own with neighbors sniping at each other regarding their political beliefs on MY post without any other input from me! When I saw all this, I immediately asked people to STOP, reiterated that it was a crime to tamper with a federally owned mailbox and was going to close the discussion (and probably just delete the whole thing). Minutes later I started getting personal attacks in my Inbox for closing the comments section! I then took pictures of the entire thread and the comments I received for before deleting the Original post. The next day, I went to get on Next Door and found I could not open the app at all. A few days later, I received a response from NextDoor corporate stating that my account had been suspended for violating their Community Standards regarding Political Discussions! I then sent them the snaps of the thread and only got a response asking if I was "willing to promise not to ever violate Community Standards again" and if I did, I would have my account reactivated. Needless to say, I was OVER being a member of NextDoor and the Orwellian/Gestapo-like feel that now goes with it. Such a sad way to run a website that had so many positive possibilities.
Terrible the amount of adverts you must endure. I wish there was another way as you cannot hide sponsor ads. If this was a TV program there would be 5 minutes of program and 25 minutes of sponsor ads. Miserable!
I do not believe that the site is even monitored properly. Instead of bringing neighbors and communities together, this website actually creates an open forum that contributes greatly to any existing chaos. I had hoped to obrain useful and reliable information from the local government departments as well as from the community association... but, it has become a forum for selling items and gossiping causing tension among peole. Living in a very violent and vindictive city where harassment and retaliation is real, this may not be the website to bring people together. I am quiet in the community and I am not into foolishness. Nextdoor or someone associated with the website sent letters to residents that included MY NAME (making it appear as though it was from me). This letter directed the receiver to the website and encouraged them to join. THIS WAS DONE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR PERMISSION... Thank goodness for a good neighbor that brought the letter to my attention. I attempted to contact the website and there was no phone number available. Everything had to be done by computer. I guess the reason seems obvious... I unsubscribed and deactivated my account. I also requested that they remove my name as I want absolutely NOTHING to do with this website.
This website is beyond creepy and I recommend thinking twice before joining and definitely doing your research. I cant help but to believe that the creators of this site like drama and "Reality" topics dealing with crime and violence... This website has created issues for me by sending out those letters. That WILL be addressed properly... I would ai dont know many folks in my community. I would add photos of the letter and envelope sent to neighbors but, it would be inappropriate at this time. If I had a neighbor like "Nextdoor", I would put up the highest privacy fence available and treat them like a nutcase.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
When neighbors start talking, good things happen.
