Ok, since the review I wrote below, things have been cleared up by great service & advise from Ginette at MyUS. I've since updated my feedback & overall rating as indicated above & a much happier MyUSer.
I will as a result abandon looking for alternatives, I doubt I will get better service!

When I did an online quote for the shipping of an item, the quote was between $60 & $100, I then completed the request to ship selecting the "cheapest" carrier option, but it seems that the highest was still selected.
Why don't we see the comparative costs per carrier when we apply for shipping as shown when doing the quotation?
Why was my selection of cheapest carrier not acted upon?
It's also clear that other selections are not adhered to: not to repackage, including smaller packages, including late packaging, etc.
I have been with MyUS for many years now it seems I need to look for an alternative...

Answer: Micaela, it all depends on the rules in Peru. I'm a MyUS customer and one of the reasons I like their service is because they give me a discount on the shipping cost, each time. There's an option in your shipping settings where you can select 'label as gift', usually customs aren't charged on gift items. Maybe you should try that once. Works for me all the time.
