Best site for ease of use, organization, and presentation. 99% of what I did required no help; but when I did need assistance a smiling knowledgeable staff person was there to provide information.
With this site I was able to reconnect with family in Europe that World Wars and the subsequent Iron Curtain had prevented for multiple decades. So, wonderful was my experience it prompted the best attended Family Reunion we ever had with attendees from both sides of the Atlantic. So successful was my research it cleared confusion of how branches were connected. It gave true reason why we held each other so dear. Our family was even published in a US national newspaper for our European heritage.
If you have created a family tree at this site make sure you check search engine results of yourself now. A few weeks ago I received an email notice of the myheritage.com security breach. Checked search engines and now they have changed user setting / preferences so that previously private information about family trees is public! Really?
Useless scam. Doesn't really work at all. Very expensive and they charge 179,50€ a year from your Paypal account without notice, and it's impossible to get someone to answer your emails. Seems that their only goal is to cheat elderly people.
MyHeritage is an excellent heritage preservation application. This user-friendly tool that helps you record and manage all the knowledge you have about your family history. You can store, present and access different types of media for hundreds of family members. The application presents the family ties in a very clear, useful format (which you can customize to meet your specific needs).
It also constantly offers exciting discoveries about existing family members and potential relations in other family trees - helping you fill in the blanks.
I would also like to point out the excellent service I received from customer support, troubleshooting some tricky technical issue. Melissa A went out of her way to find creative solutions and her professional, kind service made a huge difference.
Almost useless search engine - you have to do the searching yourself.
Will let subscription run out, will probably have to change credit card so they will not be able to charge me again in I year.
Rip Off.
Deleted the account, feel better already. $180- lesson.
Add: Check the answer from MyHeritage - Looks like you never get rid of them and have to keep paying even though they are aware that you have deleted the account and do not wish to keep paying for a closed account.
My personal opinion is that: My Heritage should be looked at by relevant authorities and be forced to clean up their act and (if proven) be prevented from stealing from people who are no longer receiving a service / product.
Dear Ron,
I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. The search feature offers customers the ability to search according to what information that currently have to be able to find more information. If the information that you are looking for is not currently there, it could be added in time as we are rapidly expanding the data sets and plan to grow SuperSearch over time to become the largest international collection of historical documents available online. Around 200 million additional records added on average every month.
Please be advised that deleting your account would not stop the annual recurring charge, that would have had to have been stopped before deleting the account. Should you get charged, you are welcome to contact support via support@myheritage.com for assistance.
Kind regards,
Barry, MyHeritage Team
Lisa helped me with setting up my profile and family tree. She also clearly explained how to track my order as they are christmas presents. I am so glad I purchased a product that gives good after care. She obviously has great knowledge of the product and website. Thanks for the assistance.
I have subscribed to MyHeritage for a couple of years and have tried a few of the others too. I find that Myheritage is a great source of family history data; their Smart matches works well and provides access to other trees with matching info. I am not keen on the automatic subscription renewal that so many sites include as the default option when signing up. However I sent an email to the My heritage support team requesting an update to my profile that I could not do via the web site, and requested removal from the automatic renewal system. I received a prompt response from Judit and she organised everything that I requested. My experience with MyHeritage has been a very positive one.
I´m a heavy user of MyHeritage for more than ten years. Technical support is very expedite when I have required. I highly recommend MyHeritage to all who wants manage their family history in a secure way.
Huge mistake signing up for the "free trial" my card was charged for a full year subscription. Tried multiple days to call there support line, which went straight to a recorded message saying they were closed despite the fact that it was within the hours they claim to be open on their own website. When I finally was able to get someone on the line, after being on hold for half and hour, they still refused to refund the amount charged, spitting out all the standard lines about what a wonderful service they are providing and flat out refusing to transfer to anyone with more authority.
MyHeritage is a professional site and handles its search challenges well. However two way guidance and patience is needed by all. It has mapped out my maternal side family history back to the early 1700's and this has provided valuable ancestral tracking closure for me. I am very grateful for this
Brilliant customer support. I was concerned that my sample may have been lost in the post. Basically told me to give it a bit more time and not to worry to much because if it doesn't arrive at the lab they'll send a replacement free of charge.
Started to put together a family tree quite a few years ago, I could not get my head round how various member of long distance relatives were related to me. Easy to use and manage including creating complicated family links. Highly recommended
It was definitely worth the experience. Having my DNA tested revealed ethnicities that I never knew I had. Part of my dads side family always took pride in being Italian, little to find out our direct ancestors just lived in Italy- they were actually Greek! As well as I had no idea my mothers side had Finnish and Nigerian! And now that my family members have started their testing we are linking our family origins. Its been a wonderfully eye opening experience and has encouraged me to dig deeper into my family history.
Be very careful with this company. The MyHeritage website is not that bad but once you want to stop your subscription it is very hard. They respond with an email but next year they just take money from your credit-card and keep your subscription. I have a bunch of emails where I confirmed that I really want to stop my subscription but again they took 189.01 euro. Be warned, do NEVER take a subscription at MyHeritage, they are scammers.
Dear Peter,
It was never our intention to cause you such a bad experience and I would like to assist you on a direct basis.
I must clarify that one may view the status or cancel an annual subscription at any time when logging in to MyHeritage from the My Purchases page and incur no annual charge.
Your member experience is very important to us and we really do value the satisfaction of all of our members. This is why our terms and conditions read that If you are not satisfied with your purchased plan you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within thirty (30) days of the initial purchase date of the subscription.
Please send me a message from your registered e-mail address at kayleigh.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may assist you with this as soon as possible.
Kind Regards,
Kayleigh MyHeritage Team.
You have an excellent program to help people who are doing research about their family. Unfortunately we cannot continue using it because of lack of finances and of time presently.
Thank you for the work.

Having several Family Trees on the go, I needed clarification of subscriptions. A lady called Eve was very helpful, very pleasant and supplied all the information I required.
My only complaint (and it is NOT against Eve!) is the length of time I waited on the 'phone - even though a disembodied voice told me more than 25 times that I was "first in the queue" and would be answered by the next available operator. I also agree with other commentators that the "whistling muzak" is so annoying!
However, at the end of the day, I got the information requested and I'll just try not to call for help or support too often!
This was a first time for my husband and me and we were confused by the results, since they contradicted our assumptions. At first it was hard to get through to them, but eventually they had an expert phone us at a prearranged convenient time. He did an excellent job of explaining their model and our results. The beauty of this process is learning about that deep background, beyond the grandparent stories. What seemed contradictory now makes perfect sense. You must keep an open mind! We totally recommend MyHeritage.
I am finding instances of information taken from my documented genealogical research being changed, particularly with individual names, and there seems to be no way to correct this. Makes me think MyHeritage sites are more about cut and paste to build huge family trees than interest in genealogical research and documentation.
Your former option re duplication of a person was great - why did you delete this aspect.
The assistance that I have just received from Nir appears to answer my query but I will not know until I attempt this long-winded solution.
Please bring back the previous option.
Dear Graeme,
If you have many duplicates, it may be frustrating to delete all of your duplicates manually and I sympathize with your efforts.
I will do all I can to help and I hereby give you two more options other than manually that may be useful to you.
1.) *You can export all the single information into one separate GEDCOM file by using the export branch feature on the FTB program. Please note that this workaround will create a new tree that you can upload to your online site and will most likely re-calculate your matches so if you do not care about your approved matches this would work.
For more information on doing this, please copy this FAQ link into your browser:
http://helpcenter.myheritage.com/31004184
2.) *Try restoring a backup of your tree from before this may have happened.
In any case, feedback such as yours is always appreciated and is always forwarded to our web developers to consider a better and easier method for the millions of our members.
If you need any further assistance please feel free to e-mail me directly at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com. I'd be happy to help you with high priority.
Sincerely
Rafael

Thank you very much for the DNA kits that you have sent to my sister at no charge when something went wrong and her results were not able to be processed. That is what I call a great company. Thanks for caring.
Answer: My issue was the automatic renewal without any kind of courtesy reminder prior to the effective date, as other businesses do. Advising one year in advance is a poor business practice. When I contacted them immediately on the renewal effective date, they refused to cancel and offered me a 25% discount. They eventually gave me the full refund but it was due to me turning it over to AMEX to resolve. I do however agree with the advice to base your renewal on your own personal experience.
Answer: You can find your site subscriptions via MyHeritage homepage - pull-down menu on the right upper corner button "Settings". Then click on "My purchases", and button "Site subscriptions". Click "View details". The details contain section "Cancel subscription". Maybe you can get advice by mail from MyHeritage support team (support@myheritage.com).
Answer: If you are looking to get as many connections to your tree that you can, use My Heritage. If you want flexibility in who is added to your tree, use Ancestry.
Answer: Dear Jonathan, Yes I have the same problem, I wrote to My Heritage and they have still not responded to my request for assistance. They are highly Sloppy and unprofessional in responding to customer request for assistance. Even though they have and excellent Technical Team. Fortunately I have another Computer with Windows 8 as a result of which I am able to continue working with my Website. But recently a few problems have cropped up with the recent upgrade of the My Heritage Program and have sent in a request for assistance and till today 3-5 months later I have no response. Apparently the company believes that they can play games with the customers. I firmly believe that they have somehow gone into self destructive mode.

Answer: I believe a direct ancestor is someone without whom you would not be here. All your other ancestors are indirect.

Answer: Hi After posting my complaint about MyHeritage on here I got a very quick response from some one called Dave at the company. He told me to send an email to support@myheritage.com and add the subject Dave: sitejabber. He responded a couple of days later - I emailed on a Saturday - and the auto repeat on my subscription was cancelled and my money refunded within days. Hope this helps.
MyHeritage is generally well-regarded for its user-friendly platform and extensive database, which many customers find invaluable for tracing their ancestry and connecting with relatives. Users appreciate the regular updates and the powerful search capabilities that facilitate discoveries. However, concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly related to billing issues and the difficulty of reaching support. Some users have reported feeling overwhelmed by the volume of information and have encountered challenges in verifying data. Overall, while the service is praised for its features, improvements in customer support and communication are necessary to enhance user satisfaction.

Dear Xavier,
I'm sorry to read your low star review.
Your privacy concern is well understood but I would like to clarify that this issue did not make any private trees public.
This intrusion was limited to only MyHeritage user's email addresses and hashed passwords (not the actual password itself). There is no reason to believe that any other MyHeritage data was compromised.
Credit card information, family trees, and DNA data are stored by MyHeritage on segregated systems that are separate from where email addresses are stored. Privacy and security have always been paramount to us and this was done for added layers of security. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that information has been compromised.
Although no passwords were leaked but only hashed versions of the passwords, we have encouraged our users to update their passwords as soon as possible. For the sake of maximum security for our members, we have already started the process of expiring all user passwords and to prompt members affected to update their passwords as soon as possible.
We have also begun giving the option of two-step verification to ensure an added layer of maximum security for your information. Please follow this URL for more information on setting this up:
