“Leather Failure”

Don E.
10/23/23

Whatever you do stay away from Lazyboy! I bought a leather recliner along with a $300 dollar warranty package. Total cost was over $3800 dollars. The leather is failing and Lazyboy says they can't get the replacement panel so there is nothing they can do, NOTHING! I've spent hours being bounced between them and the warranty company. Totally unethical company that I would never deal with again. Buy from the cheapest company you can find. It will be a better experience for you.

Sub par quality products with defects, at inflated prices.
I tried to return the product and get a refund in the first week of ownership to which they refused. They have taken the sofa on two seperate occassions, for months at a time and despite initially agreeing there was an issue, they're now refusing to fix it.
Currently a year down the line and I still have a damaged seat sat in my house.

In less than 2 years the leather is flaking off. Worse quality than bonded leather. Purchased an extended warranty but they won't cover because it's a manufacturer defect. Lazboy will not help because it's only warranted for one year. Awful quality, waste of $3,000.

My lazyboy recliner which we had for just over a year but really only used for four months as we are snow birds and are only in Florida for four months out of the year. When lazyboy was contacted for are concern they did nothing but give us a run around and shuffled from person to person. Please don't buy a lazyboy as the quality and service is no longer anywhere what it use to be. We will not be buying another product.

The quality of La-Z-Boy furniture has really gone by the wayside. Recliners are flimsy and lack the precision to even hold themselves upright. We are not happy with this overpriced "furniture". It belongs in an RV. After speaking with salespeople about a refund or replacement with something better, I do not feel like we have been represented well and do not feel like a valued customers as they claim we were outside of the 36 hour return window. Only got a chance to sit in the Trouper sectional once in 3 days to realize it's quality issues. Spent $6,500 on a terrible excuse for a couch that La-Z-Boy will not stand behind. I will report back with any positive resolution.
I DO NOT recommend this furniture or this company. It is stunning that they still exist. This furniture is overpriced junk.
Extreme buyers remorse. I will never Buy another La-Z-Boy and will do all I can to help others not make the same mistake that I have.

We had to wait 9 months for our custom purchase order in March 2022. We also purchased the extended warranty. They never told us we were outside of the area where the techs come. On delivery the couch had huge flaws in the leather and the back was not straight. We requested it be taken back/ we were told we had to call customer service to have it fix. We did. They came and picked up the piece - leaving us with nothing to sit in for 90 days. Now a spring has popped out. I called and they said someone need to come pick it up for repair as the techs do not service our location. I asked that we have our warranty of $600 returned if they're was no point since it couldn't be serviced in out home. I was told we already used it the first time. She stated that the minute it was dropped at our house it was not they're coverage. It was under our warranty.
All she said was that is how it is SOL. I'm furious. It's been only 5 months since we've had it and I've spent more time with this piece of crap.
Don't even think about this company. Poor customer service after you spend 8K with them.

I purchased a recliner 4 years ago from La-Z-Boy. I just realized that areas of the fabric are fading and pilling. I contacted them, and was informed that their warranty only lasts one year. I had purchased the extended, 5 year warranty, but that does not cover any wear over time. I paid over $2,000 for that recliner!

Run DO NOT Walk from Lazy Boy! I purchased a "leather" sectional sofa in 04/2019, with all the bells and whistle warranties available. My sofa started peeling after only being 4 years and 5 months old! Leather doesn't peel. The sales person sold it as a leather sofa. This is fraud. The sales people say how wonderful the warranties are. They are NOT. The warranty will not cover anything that is not "accidental". Meaning if you don't sit down on your piece of furniture with a very sharp object that would puncture the material then it will not be covered. I followed their service request form and filled it out in Sept of 2023 heard nothing. I followed up with Lazy Boy 11/27/23 only to be told that it was not a manufacturer defect. They have their telephone representative read from a script that the issue is not a manufacturer defect. They will give you another phone number to call. You sit on hold only to be hung up on!
I would never give a 1 star to Lazy Boy but you had to give a star to be able to review.
Bottom line...find another furniture store with better warranties and a company that will stand behind their product. Lazy Boy does not!

$1,500 recliner had not lasted two years. Problem with fabric within month of purchase. Took 6 months for a service call and another 2 months for repairman. Now frame broken, and my significant other could have been seriously injured. Phone call: over 2 weeks for service and exorbitant costs to repair. Vanessa did seem to want to make it right, but I understand she had to follow your antiquated rules. Was able to have new chair delivered same day as purchase. NOT lazboy. Salesman said you were not the same company you used to be. We asked what brands they carried because we would not even look at lazboy. We know a lot of people we have, and will continue, to tell about your bad workmanship and even worse customer service. You can only last so long on past reputation

Let me explain the service policy.
You take l literally hours or days on the phone to schedule a repair call you can describe in detail along with photos what the problem is it's a total waste of time because no matter what you show them. They have to send the rep out weeks later to look at it himself he will then say Yep it's broke, and then have to order the parts that will take several more weeks when you receive those. Then the process begins all over again then you have to call La-Z-Boy again to schedule a Repair, you get the picture it's like buying a car making payments and not being able to drive it for months at a time. It would be a good idea if La-Z-Boy allowed you to defer payments while you wait for their service department to do their job they truly without a doubt live up to their name. Lazy is perfect stay away.

Terrible product. Terrible Service. We spent a lot of money on our furniture and even purchased additional protection. The seams are ripping out of the furniture that has been barely used. La-Z-Boy refuses to correct the issue because we are just outside the 1 year warranty and the additional protection won't cover it because it is a "manufacturing" defect. They had the audacity to ask if we wanted to schedule an appointment to pay almost $200 / hour for repairs. And the first hour was just a fee to look at the furniture and quote the overall price to repair. HA! Are they serious?

I paid $449.99 for 5 years of protection on my purchases prior to the expiration of my warranty I called the La- Z- Boy warranty company and filed a claim. As instructed I sent pictures via email. They informed me they would get back to me in two or three days. About 10 days later I never heard from them so I called them gave them the claim number. They said my claim was not covered and they were going to get back to me in in the order they received my claim. Guess they have a lot of furniture complaints. I called the store explained everything including what the sales person told me when I bought all the furniture which was and I quote. " Anything that goes wrong in five years is covered free.
Their response was "We don't do upholstery anymore" I thank them for their time and took them off my list of furniture stores. I would advise everyone to do the same. My sales order # is *******.

Outcome:
Since we posted online, Corporate Headquarters contacted us and said THE "La- Z -BOY Store " in New Port Richey was a franchise, and they would call the store and have them get back to us.

Today, March, 9th, 2023 the store manager from New Port Richey location called and said we could buy a new cushion at our expense. Informed him the sales person who sold me the furniture said everything was covered for 5 years.

I think they call that an implied contract. I told him I would be happy with on of three solutions
1. Fix the chair
2. Give me my $449.99 back since the warranty wasn't honored.
3. Give me a new chair.

He said sorry that wasn't going to happen and abruptly just hung up.

So let me sum up my experience:

The franchised store takes no responsibility.
The independent warranty company didn't even get back to me.
Corporate headquarters says it's not their problem because the store is a franchise even though they profited from selling the franchise.

Remember when you buy from the
"La- Z -BOY Store " you're buying from all corporate independent entities that don't honor their customers.

The worst part for me is I had to post this review because another corporation just didn't care.

I was interested in looking at the sale items in a flyer I received in my mailbox. The website left me feeling very frustrated.

I was trying to find a sofa bed that was on sale. There's no easy way to get to it. It's like the store is so desperate to sell you everything you're not looking for that they won't let you find what you're looking for without wasting a lot of time looking.

Also, the prices in the flyer were different by about $500.

I finally found what I was looking for by Googling it. But the website didn't provide a clear picture of the article.

Your website looks fancy but is not at all useful.

I wonder how much business you have lost because of that.

Recently took delivery of 2 La-Z-Boy recliners(took 6 months to get them). Looking at them they are nice. Once you sit in them the problems begins. The seat on one is not level. In actually looking at the chair, it can be seen that the seat is slanted from right to left. Called customer service, sure they will be glad to send out a serviceman in about 4 months. So now I have a chair ($1000. 00) that is useless. The serviceman will come out and state that the chair has to go back in to be repaired. Probably be more than a year after purchase date that we will see the chair back again. If it is repaired properly. Which at this point I have my doubts
Sorry I did not look at it more closely upon delivery, I would have refused delivery. But look at it this way La-Z-Boy got there money. 50% down and the remainder 10 days before the delivery. La-Z-Boy would not set up the delivery until they had there money.

Purchased a Lazy Boy rocker recliner January 2023. Salesman said they were the best most dependable durable furniture out there. Lifetime parts warranty to original owner. February 2nd 2024 a spring broke in the backrest. Called Godwin's (where I purchased it) and told them about the issue. They said it would cost 75.00 for them to come inspect it. Then 75.00 to come back and repair it PLUS the cost of the parts. Salesman lied his $#*! off to sell me the chair. 13 months for an 800.00 chair? WTF. My Big Lotts chairs cost me 250-300.00 and last 3-4 years before a spring goes. Lazy boy are the most over rated piece of crap out there. You've been warned. They aren't made like they use to be. Customer service is worse than ever. Never buy Lazy Boy. You'll regret it

I am 60 years old my father, my son and I have always bought lazy boy chairs because of its guarantees and quality. We just spent $6000 on two recliners in 2021, the sales guy said the mechanism has a lifetime guarantee along with other guarantees. All was great when they were trying to sell me the recliners, but a year later the chair was having issues and parts falling out from under the chair. I call lazy boy about the warrantee and only the parts are guaranteed, and they wanted $160 a chair plus other labor charges to fix it. The salesman made it sound like it would be free for repairs if needed (never mentioned buying a warranty), said the chair had a lifetime warrantee on the mechanism. So, I turn the recliner over to look to see if I could fix it myself. I was surprised to see the chair was very cheaply made and it said made in China all over the parts. Lazy boy sells cheap crap these days, don't waste your money. Lazy boy is not what they use to be years ago. You can get a recliner like this at any furniture store for $250 to $500. Wish I had not trusted lazy boy junk. They are just riding out the last customers like me who didn't know the chairs are cheap junk and will not last before they go out of business. Don't let a fast-talking salesperson talk you out of your money.

This is an update from my previous review. I had purchased a sectional which was horrible, so LazBoy gave me the option to either order the same sectional again, only to be told that it may come out the same way again or order something else, which I did. I ordered an individual recliner and a couch even though my heart was set on a sectional. So once again I had to wait months for my order but I was allowed to keep the sectional in the mean time. When I finally got my order, I tried the recliner but wasn't too impressed with it. But then I tried my couch. The couch came with two end recliners. Each recliner failed to operate properly. They would only open a quarter of the way and then stop. "SO HERE WE GO AGAIN!, I thought. So I notified LazBoy about it, they sent out a repair person, who tested it out only to tell me that they'll have to order parts. These parts were then shipped to my house weeks later. And then I had to make an appointment to have these parts replaced. And that's what happened today. My couch was in several parts after the repair person dismantled it. He put the new parts on, put everything back together only to see that one side wasn't working properly. He told me that LazBoy will be notified of this and it'll be up to them what happens next. Like I said before, "There is no more quality control in the industry business in this country." NO ONE TAKES PRIDE IN THEIR WORK ANYMORE! It's all about the MONEY. This whole incident is so frustrating, that I'm so sorry I made this mistake in dealing with LazBoy. I hope this complaint saves other consumers from the same headaches! Plus, a bad scratch was made on one side of the recliner.

BIG MISTAKE

I went with Lazboy because it used to have a good reputation, but not anymore. In December 2021, I ordered a leather recliner and a sectional. Nearly 8 months later, they were finally delivered. The leather recliner had a horrible odor. It smelled like a horse! I was told that the smell will eventually go away. It only took six months to do so. As for the sectional, it looked like amateurs made this piece of furniture. It had so many mistakes, I wondered where was the quality control which I now know no longer exists. The center section sits lower than the rest of it on both sides. And the back framing is off and uneven. The two loveseat sections have seat pillows where one sits further out than the other. It's just a cheap looking piece of expensive junk. Customer care told me that I could have it redone, but there's a chance that it may end up the same way. So what does that tell you?

The company advertises leather that retains its vibrant colors for the life of the leather which they describe as 15 to 20 years. The leather not only fades in 6 months from a medium brown to a washed out cream color, they refuse to honor a warranty that does not exclude fading. https://lazyboylies.com/preview/

Dear La-Z-Boy,

Back in July when I went to you home gallery shop here in Hoover, AL. I went there because your company is a name synonymous with quality furniture and customer service. To be around as long as you have those two things have had to have some consistency over the years, right?. It's proudly displayed on the walls in pictures behind the register. So I purchased two recliners, my sales person, Scott, told me if I didn't special order the fabric or get the leather ones I should have my chairs delivered to my home in September (about 8 weeks). So I ordered what was on the showroom floor and paid my 50% down and left excited.

Well 8 weeks came and went. So I contacted the 800 # provided had to leave a message because no one was available to speak to me. The person who called me back left a message that said it would be October or November before I would receive my shipment, no apology for the delay, just the facts and hung up. So I contacted the Hoover store, spoke to a salesman who treated me as if I had ordered them a week ago and was being impossible, so I asked to speak to my salesperson. He wasn't available so I left a message. No call back. Fast forward to this past week. I called the Hoover store again, another annoyed salesperson who spoke rudely to me and said they had one chair in the warehouse and "guess they could schedule delivery in 2 weeks, on the 16th" also stated the other chair would arrive on the 9th and they would call me later to set up that delivery. When I asked about the time, again, rudely was told they would call with a 2 hour time frame the night before.

Now, I'm not sure why I would need 2 delivery dates when both chairs will be in the warehouse on delivery day, but I refuse to call back and be spoken to like a child again.

After 50+ years, I would think you would be the leader in customer service, that you would set the bar for others. Imagine what just a simple apology for the inconvenience, the misinformation, no communication, etc., would have done. Is this no longer taught in your stores? As customers are we just lucky to purchase from you? Is the quality of your product going to be as disappointing as the people I've dealt with?

Do better La-Z-Boy. Teach your team that while the name may suggest it's okay to be Lazy, that's for the customer to do...while enjoying the furniture and not the customer service.

I bought the best recliner Lay Z Boy had in Murfreesboro, TN 2 and a half years ago. Ordered it and it was finally delivered. Just after 2 years had problems with it. Found out that the frame was coming away from the base. So they fixed it. Now the recliner goes back so far that the back goes 12" from touching the floor. About to flip over. They have been here 4 more times and they can't find the problem. Customer care will not answer the phone. You have to leave a message and maybe they will call back. They have said I'm too tall and to heavy for the chair which I'm not, but I told them there was NO DISCLAIMER for height or weight. So I Spent alot of money on crap. Will never go back. If your looking to go there STOP. DON'T walk away RUN!

Lazboys have been a part of my family for over 60 years. Got a reclining loveseat with a center sofa 8 years ago. Within 5 years, the right side arm rest section was detaching from the frame and one of the cushions was bottoming out- they got serviced, replaced. It was a big deal just to get it done because unlike other retailers, lazboy retailers are not all the same. Some are not considered part of the company and so the warranty is not handled well or equally, they also use third party service providers. None have responsibility to provide high quality materials and none are vested to ensure you are a happy camper. So 1 yr later, both cushions are bottoming out, yeah even the one that was replaced. They send the insert to the cushions that smell like they were dipped into some sort of very smelly chemical petroleum product- the kind that gives you an instant migraine. Even after waiting for two weeks for them to off gas, they smelled as foul as the day they were received. Needless to say, they were returned after several very long phone calls. They offered a solution- let them sit somewhere to off gas for two months or so and then call to have the service guy come out again to install. Or, you need to pay again to have the cushions off gas in some warehouse for two months, upon which they will remember about your item, while keeping it safe from any sort of filth or mishandling, and will send to you. None of these solutions were acceptable. Also, they charge for the replacement and the cost of someone coming out to install the items. Mind you, you must have a service person come out to assess whether the issue you complain of is actually what they experience when they come out- they take lots of pics of your item. That is the only way to even have any service or replacement done for your furniture. I was able to get the cushions returned and $ refunded after several more calls, stressing my displeasure at the entire experience. Throughout the year, it was during pandemic, it was impossible to get in touch with anyone, no one answered the phones. Even an email for someone to contact me via the corporate office went unanswered. It was like the entire company went on vacation. So, another year later, I decided to see if I can get some resolution to this issue because now, I had to buy some cushions to place on top of my seats because the metal in them, I presume some sort of coils, are now pushing up into me and causing me pain and giving me a backache. I finally got to speak to someone after waiting on the phone for an hour or so, called three times. Talked to several people from the corporate office, and after a long discussion with the rep, asked for a "supervisor" who only offered to send me to the local service provider to get the cushions sent out to me. Yeah, they tell me that when the cushions were returned a year ago, they didn't smell anything from them. Not a surprise to me that they would say that. Of course, with this next order, there are no assurances that I won't get the same stinky cushion inserts. The sofa is in excellent shape, the fabric cover has no issues, it is only the insides- the cushions. They require that I pay in advance for the cushions, and when she quoted me the price, it was way more than a year ago. Then she realizes that she put in the price for a "premium" cushion insert and it was in error, because she can only offer me the exact item that came with the sofa, which was a less costly insert- if I have to pay for them, why is it such a big deal? And it is obvious to me, they are only offering me a far inferior product. Eight years ago, lazboy did not have the variety of cushion material they do now and there was absolutely no choice as to what I wanted installed. Of course since the lazboy that I purchased from is not an "official" lazboy gallery, even though the store's name seems to indicate so, as well as the business cards I received from the sales person. She would not offer me an upgraded cushion. If you wanted a long time customer to be happy with your products and you know that they have a history of being mistreated by your company, wouldn't you just give the upgrade to them so that they will be happy with what they will receive? And then they will more likely to stay a loyal customer? Well that is my thought. But it is not the thought of the people who work at lazboy. I guess the name is confirmation of the way they do business. They are definitely LAZY. And they do not care at all that they need to do things the right way, treat the customer the right way all along all of their lines of business. They should not be misleading customers with their willy nilly labeling of the third party stores they work with. They should disclose the relationships they have with the various third parties, in their verbal discussions, in their contracts you sign with them, throughout labelling of their retailers. They are in the process of opening more brick and mortar stores with all the aggressive advertising they are doing. Yet, they have not changed their business model. The retail guy, TJ Linz is leaving his post in April 2023 and a new person is taking his place. I doubt they know anything about how their various entities are conducting such a subpar business. Unless they truly upgrade that and overhaul their cheap furniture, they will keep losing business from formerly loyal customers. Next time I am looking for comfortable lounging furniture, I am steering clear away from this awful company. I'm even afraid of trying to have the sides/arms of the sofa be fixed as they are wobbling even though we don't put weight on them because I can just hear them say that the item is now out of warranty, you didn't buy it from an "official" lazboy, and we won't help you there. I can just hear it. Ugh, don't want to have to deal with people who tell me that they can't do anything more for me and that there is no one else I can go to in their company to resolve this issue. Yeah, no on else that they can refer me to in corporate to resolve this. Well, TJ Linz, I know who you are, but I don't have any confidence that you will do anything about this. This company has a long history, but it is old and tired and has lost its way because they don't care about the customer at all. No one takes responsibility for anything.

Tip for consumers:
make sure you are dealing with an official lazyboy, not an unregistered retailer for which you will be required to deal with third party servicers. Make sure your contract describes who you will be dealing with if there are issues with your furniture, and you will have them because they are subpar products.
Better yet, steer clear away from this company and its brand. They are poorly made and they do not know the meaning of the term "customer service", and I am not going to try to define it.

Old fashioned snub! Comes early just for the show! The furniture are outdated and colors a drab. The chair falls flat when you sit on it more like the ones which have nothing much underneath! The two males changes their body language just as soon as they have gotten what they wanted and you will be sure to be snub at if you happen to look out of the window?

If La-Z-Boy sucked any harder, they would create a black hole and drag all of humanity into oblivion. My La-Z-Boy store card was opened four years ago when my wife & purchased numerous items. I have an exceptionally high FICO easily qualifying for the La-Z-Boy store card. But a year after issuing this card and several months AFTER paying it off, La-Z-Boy reduced the card's limit 50% without reason. I shrugged it off. Then today I went to check on and to request the original limit be reinstated because we are nearing completion of a home remodel, and the old furniture doesn't work anymore. Guess what? La-Z-Boy closed the account. No notice given…if I hadn't logged in, I would not have known. Here's the best part…their reason for this was "inactivity." I had the card for 4 years. So basically, La-Z-Boy doesn't expect their overpriced furnishings to last you 5 years and penalize you if you wait 4 years before repurchasing furniture. Well…I suppose that's about right cuz I notice my recliner was losing the wood finish several months ago and was not reclining or staying reclined like normal. The sofa is uncomfortable as well.

My wife is heading out to replace pretty much all the furniture in the house except for the beds as the new flooring and paint makes the existing furniture all wrong. Guess who WON'T be getting our business? That's right…LazyBlackHole Furniture Galleries! Don't shop here…and definitely don't open a charge account here. The bovine excrement justifications they use to change your card status will harm your FICO and if you are OCD about protecting your credit rating like I am…La-Z-Boy's policies will eventually damage your score. Funny thing is…two years ago I was shopping for 8 dining room chairs and they didn't have any black dining chairs! OMG! How weak is that? You'd think B&W would always be available. I'm more upset with the lack of proper notice than I am anything else, zero communication! La-Z-Boy sets the customer care bar so low you need a backhoe to see it. Check their dismal bbb.org rating, reviews and complaints.

Fell apart after 2 years. Will never buy from them again. Bought really nice couch with recliners on both sides and a heavy duty recliner. All has fallen apart at the frames.
