The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I tried HA for two different jobs. One, I needed a handyman... and got inundated with calls from plumbers...(and no handyman). Two: I actually ordered, paid for the service, and they sent a yard contractor who did not have a lawn mower! I had to turn him away---I added the extra star, because they did refund my money (after about 3 emails). So, all in all, I have spent a significant amount of time with Home Advisor, and still have no projects done. Go directly to real businesses, with real employees, who listen.
This company cut some trees for me and did a great job. They were reliable, quick, thorough and cleaned up everything when they were done. I would use them again.
Andrew Robertson (salesperson out of K. C. office) called me at 6:20 while I was eating dinner with my family and promised my company a job if I would rejoin there company. I originally stated no but he PROMISED ME A JOB THAT SERVICE MASTER COULDN'T GET TO. So I brought in 3 employees in for that job that costs me $500 and he never called as promised with client information. We called multiple times, sent emails and text messages to no avail. We used Home Advisor in the past and lost lots of money. Very unprofessional company that makes promises and or commitments they do not honor. Customer service didn't do anything but issue original money back in 2-4 weeks.
Tried using HomeAdvisor for a house cleaning project. The contractor called at noon for a 1:00 pm appointment and said they were running late. I spoke to them again around 1:15 and said they were still on their way. At 3:30 when I hadn't heard anything further I sent a text cancelling the job. At 4:00 pm I still had not heard anything so I called HomeAdvisors. The only good news is that I am supposed to get a full refund on my credit card within 3-5 business days. If that doesn't happen I will do some research to see if there is a lower rating than One Star.
Wallet raping owners of service industry companies. Lead fees are so high you can't make any money. You only win 30% of your leads received. If they are creditable leads. Home Advisor is the worst about crediting leads fees for bogus or bad contact leads. Great idea, poor management.
They call it Home Advisor. They should call it Home Harasser. Instead of just giving you reviews and descriptions of the service companies (you know, advising you) they give them your number and let them call you. My policy is not to do business with anyone I didn't contact first, so maybe they are helpful in sending me companies I can scratch off my list. Fortunately, I gave them my throw-away number, so they can just leave voice messages along with the IRS, Nigerian Princes and other fraudsters.
Google created home advisor as just another platform tEo reduce competition and limit searches for legitimate contractors. This monopoly has just gone too far once again. Big
Business has found enough loopholes to not pay any tax on their profits. Greed has become a sickening reality. ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH
This company lied to us and said we wouldnt be charged an annual charge to see "price quotes" for our company. I was charged 289.00. It took me a whole month to get it back and I called them within minutes of noticing the charge... The customer service is next to NONE. You cant get any answers and there are no supervisors they will allow you to talk to. Also, was charged a $22. Fee for a lead which i never even opened or accepted. So if they send you 10 leads. Youll be charged for each one. Whether you accept / or get the job or not. This lead was sent AFTER i requested a CANCEL/REFUND. Businesses beware. This site/company is not all its cracked up to be. And its just a huge frustration after huge frustration! I dont even want to give this company 1 star. But I guess I have to to submit a rating.
They charge way too much for leads. A $49 job cost me $31.48 for the lead. I still have to pay labor and fuel for this job. The only way to get money back would be to up the price for my client. I will not make my clients do that. This happened time and time again with their leads. I went backwards signing up for their services. I do not recommend!
I received a phone call from Home Advisors 3 days before my appointment asking me how I liked their service. Not a good start, I hadn't even met with a professional yet. I received a phone call the day before my appointment reminding me of the appointment and telling me someone would contact me to confirm the appointment. No one called. On the day of the appointment I called the contractor early in the morning to confirm and no one answered. I waited 45 minutes and no one showed. I called Home Advisor and they told me that the appointment had been cancelled the day before.
Twice I requested professionals to provide estimates, once for painting my Barn, second time to pave my driveway. NOBODY CONTACTED ME.
Had a project involving removal of cabinets and shelves from a wall. It's clearly a handyman job. I checked the boxes and HA sent me 7 contractors, no handymen. Of course these "contractors" (some claiming "no job too small") were not interested, but all but one wouldn't admit it. I asked all of them do they actually do the work. All but one said no - they hire somebody. The other one wanted to do some totally unnecessary tearing out of the wall, despite my clear explanation of how that wall would get refinished (way easier, way less mess, way less cost). He balked, and ran.
A contractor sits at a computer and cranks out an estimate, calls up guys to do the work, and, naturally (since he tools around in a $50,000 pick up truck) wants big jobs, preferably for someone who is planning on flipping for a $100,000 profit. It was a waste of my time and a waste of their time.
I finally attacked the job myself despite my physical disability. Took less time than I or any of these guys HA sent thought it would. I saved $1200 at least.
HA is not tuned in to anything except HGTV-style mega remodels, apparently.
I signed up for home advisor and the representative told me several times we'd only be charged for "sold" leads. That was a lie, they charge $60 for EVERY lead. I called to cancel and they wanted to charge me for leads I never saw. I had to get angry and they relented. I then asked for a refund of the subscription fee, they told me I had to wait to 14-30 days! I asked to speak to a supervisor, they said no. I told the operator to refund my money or transfer me to a supervisor and he said no but I was welcome to wait on hold for several hours, then he put me on hold. I've called back several times and have waited on hold a ton. They claim to have no supervisors available to make these decisions. These people are dishonest crooks. Don't give them your money, don't support them by requesting service from their contractors. Waiting 14-30 days for a refund is ridiculous. 3-5 business days max is the most anyone should have to wait for a refund.
Made appointment for a housecleaner on a Sat.@ 1100 Paid in advance. Was the cheapest quote. Homeadvisor texted me the day before to confirm... Great... Sat at 1000 get a text... due to last minute Pro call off my appointment was rescheduled to Monday@ 11 am. Good thing my husband was off work on Monday but OK. My event is not until Tues. SO I was feeling a little uneasy when it was close to 11 am and no one had arrived. Also wasn't worried when the housekeeping "Professional" called to say she was stick in traffic but will be there in 10 mins. An hour and a half later. I had to call HomeAdvisor to be told my Professional had an emergency and couldn't make it. Were they even going to tell me? There response we hire independent contractors and if they don't show up we can only give you your money back as we don't have our own staff just independent contractors. They have flakey contractors that don't show up and the consumer has no recourse for wasting time... Leaving me with no time for me to find a replacement. Go to a real company that has their own staff if you need to get something done in a certain time frame. Or if you want to be sure you can have a real person guarantee the work.
Criminal company, They simply piss on you and your business. And when you try to talk to them they piss to your face. I traveled a lot, worked in a lot of countries, but NEVER IN MY LIFE meet such bastards.
Question to manager: why this leads is credit ineligible? We call him few days, sent tons of messages without answer.
Answer: this lead is ineligible for credit because we also can't talk with him.
Question to manager: what we pay for?
Answer: contact information.
Question: why you block our account?
Answer: In conversation with manager you told that you probably want to close account.
Facepalm!
Burn in hell bastards
HomeAdvisor posted the following five (5) star review using my name -
"Project: Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof
They worked with my insurance and helped me to get my roof replacement covered. They worked fast and were professional. They actually upgraded my roof and gave me a great warranty along with it. My experience with them is one of the best experiences I have had with a contractor. It was easy, fast and everything looks great. They paid close attention to detail and everyone cleaned up very well after everything was completed."
The problem? I did NOT write the review. Five stars for a professional' whose idea of unloading sheeting is to raise the front of the trailer and slamming dozens of 4 x 8 boards into our garage door?
Conclusions: HomeAdvisor does NOT verify reviews!
Any 5 star review of a 'pro' posted on/by HomeAdvisor is most likely a fraud!
Homeadvisor is a money-hungry company with no morals. The value that my company has received has been very little, and yet homeadvisor feels it necessary to charge $1,000-$2,000 per month. Half of the "leads" i receive, if not more, are BS and I am not able to communicate with the "customer" at all. Homeadvisor says that they will compensate you for bad leads, however, when you call them to request a credit they deny the request and charge you anyways. I once had a "lead" tell me to put them on the do not call list, so I called homeadvisor and their representative said "This is not a bad lead so we will not refund your money. That is the name of the game, if the customer is not ready to talk to you then it is not our fault."
I have never been more unsatisfied by a company, Homeadvisor is the worst of the worst.
What is even the point of this site? They send your project out to all these "pros" and none of them reply. So, then you modify your request and try again - and maybe someone will reply once but never again. Try changing your name from a male to female sounding name and then you'll get a bunch more replies (gross but true - I heard this in another article & tried it - it IS true) - however even that still leaves you with unreliable people who do not come through. Why are there commercials for this crappy site on TV nonstop? It is literally the WORST possible recommendation site - just use Yelp!
This website pops up when you ask for someone to do home repairs. Not satisfied at all.One company comes gives estimate and never comes back. Another comes when they want and doesn't do everything their asked to do. Just wants to make enough $ for the week end.And another job I had to have done guess there's lazy landscapers in this area put in for one Monday no call back yet. 4 days later.
If you are a professional stay away from this scam. If a salesman calls you, hang up immediately! This is a company that takes your money and promises al lot and gives nothing. Home Advisor is truly the worst of the worst.
Of all the leads I received, 61% were unreachable. Meaning I paid for leads that I was never able to even talk to. How can you sell a service to someone when you aren't even able to get in touch with them?
The salesman that talked me into this assured me that I would be given credit when this happened. LIE!
So, like I said, if you like having your money stolen from you, join Home Advisor. If you like keeping your hard earned money, stay away. You will be sorry you joined.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
