The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I have been using Magic Touch for two years and I am pleased with their services. They are professional and reliable and are terrific problem solvers with solutions to your Landscaping ideas. They are a great group of hard workers.
This company cut some trees for me and did a great job. They were reliable, quick, thorough and cleaned up everything when they were done. I would use them again.
Andrew Robertson (salesperson out of K. C. office) called me at 6:20 while I was eating dinner with my family and promised my company a job if I would rejoin there company. I originally stated no but he PROMISED ME A JOB THAT SERVICE MASTER COULDN'T GET TO. So I brought in 3 employees in for that job that costs me $500 and he never called as promised with client information. We called multiple times, sent emails and text messages to no avail. We used Home Advisor in the past and lost lots of money. Very unprofessional company that makes promises and or commitments they do not honor. Customer service didn't do anything but issue original money back in 2-4 weeks.
Tried using HomeAdvisor for a house cleaning project. The contractor called at noon for a 1:00 pm appointment and said they were running late. I spoke to them again around 1:15 and said they were still on their way. At 3:30 when I hadn't heard anything further I sent a text cancelling the job. At 4:00 pm I still had not heard anything so I called HomeAdvisors. The only good news is that I am supposed to get a full refund on my credit card within 3-5 business days. If that doesn't happen I will do some research to see if there is a lower rating than One Star.
If you are a contractor, do NOT go through Home Advisor. The leads they provide you never answer the phone and if they do it is to yell at you to stop calling them. They give the same lead to over 15 other contractors and they almost never credit back your money when they give you a bad lead. You will spend all of your money and make almost nothing. The people who use this to find a contractor only want the cheapest service and don't care about quality. I would strongly recommend to stay far away and pursue any other way to find quality leads.
Do NOT Home Advisors to find a contractor! Dennis Torres of Exact Contracting in Warwick, RI was hired through the Home Advisors website. He painted my mom's house after a torrential rainstorm and her house is completely covered in bubbling/blistering paint. I have numerous photos documenting how he damaged her home. My mom is a senior citizen on a fixed income and Dennis Torres took advantage of her. He took full payment and refuses to stand by his work which continues to deteriorate to this day. His work is horrible and now we are filing a complaint with the Ma State Attorney General and Better Business Bureau. Do yourself a favor and do not hire this sub par company and do NOT use Home Advisors website. They are useless if the contractor is horrible. They are merely an advertising website. My mom thought he came recommended, but this is NOT the case.
Tried several times to hire a lawn care company and they never sent or had people call us. Very disappointed and will tell all of my friends of this review.
After a worrisome early morning with kitchen sinks backed up, I called Atomic Plumbing and spoke with a gentleman named Bill. He was most kind and patient with a frantic homeowner, in a mess, and assured me he would have someone here between 11:30 and 12:30. After our conversation, he made a call to one of his workers and within 1/2 hour, the plumber was here and at work in my kitchen and bath. Price was reasonable for the time put in. I will recommend them to my HOA and friends.
I was with them as a pro contractor for 5 + years, trying to work with them as I had seen glimpses of the system working, and this service exists as a way to milk money from contractors and take advantage of them using unauthorized bank charges without permission. I would not recommend joining. Their customer services lies to me repeatedly and will do anything to keep from losing a customer so I had to leave finally.
I tried to reschedule a tv mounting through home advisor bc my mount had not arrived, and couldn't get in touch with ANYONE. The pro came to my home and obviously couldn't do job. I still cannot get in touch with anyone- the customer service number they gave me is bogus.
We started when they were ServiceMagic and they were good. Now, under HomeAdvisor it's really bad...
The contractor they referred to us took our money and refused to finish the job. I could never offer a positive statement about hone advisor. They "promised" to resolve this problem. That was months ago.
Home advisor is extremely poor by any standard!
Wallet raping owners of service industry companies. Lead fees are so high you can't make any money. You only win 30% of your leads received. If they are creditable leads. Home Advisor is the worst about crediting leads fees for bogus or bad contact leads. Great idea, poor management.
I went on to homeadvisor to look at general pricing for some home improvement projects and to get the numbers of some pros in our area.
I kid you not, 5 minutes later my phone started blowing up with call from businesses that I never requested quotes from! I got phone calls. I got voicemails. I got texts. Over, and over, and over for THREE STRAIGHT DAYS!
I am beyond annoyed at this point. I will never, EVER go on homeadvisor again!
Got a call from Josh Matzinger from CJE Restoration company based in Grandview/Lewis Center Ohio. He came out right away and identified my chimney problem. I had to remove a large flowering vine growing up the chimney. He came back and sealed the leaking parts of the chimney for free! He was very professional and honest. When I need my roof replaced in a couple of years he will be the one I call. Please call him for any roof, siding, trim, gutter, insulation work you need at *******014. He is awesome!
This is a FRAUD company! Sign for $287 per phone for all the service, when the money were taken, they suddenly started to take extra $29 per referred customer without any notice, without any information in advance! Referred customer does not mean contract or work for you! They can say no thank you, but you will still going to pay to Home Adviser!
Do not use this service as a professional they sure know how to take your money.
Automatic renewals and automatic leads cost you a small fortune, even when you tell them to keep leads off they turn them on without notice. Never again.
They sell leads. They charge you to receive job leads which is fine, but they lead you to believe that you won't pay for the leads unless you follow up and take the job...
I'm a contractor who was contacted by home advisor when i started my business. The rep lead me to believe that the leads I would receive would be charged to me if I followed up on them. I was very clear with him that I do not need leads right away but will in a couple months. He said we could pause the leads. I paused the leads not realizing that I would pay for leads regardless of whether I ever talked to the customers. They ended up taking me for $500. Good job guys. There is a sucker born every minute. When I realized what I had gotten into I was incensed at myself for not understanding what was going on.
Contractor beware, I only want to help others in the future not to be deceived by a sales rep. Adam Corolla the joke was on me.
I am a contractor who has used Homeadvisor for about 13 years. When I first started using them they were called Service Magic. The leads that came in were plenty enough and most of the leads were bonafide. The company was sold at least one time, maybe two. Eventually they became Homeadvisor and the same company who owns Angieslist owns Homeadvisor. Nowadays the leads are plenty but the bonafide leads are very few. I have had a fake lead from "Mario Super" with an obviously fake number sent to me three times in one year even after I had complained about it the first time.
I wanted to increase leads and grow my business. I thought Home Advisor could help. They were helpful in setting up my business, but things turned ugly when the leads started coming in. The very first lead was someone that claimed they were on the Home Depot website, not home advisor. The second wasn't a lead at all the phone number wasn't any good. They charged $240 for these two leads. I called and talked to them about the poor leads and they agreed to refund me for one. They still charged me for both leads and when I disputed the charges they sent a letter threatening to take me to collections. I'm fortunate that I cancelled within the 72 hour period and that I turned the leads off right away. These people will take your money and will give you nothing in return. Find a different way to grow your business.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
