Rip off prices preying on a young student

Awful service. Charged my student daughter, hundreds of pounds more for parts that literally cost £120-150. They charged her much more than that, even with the hourly rate on top, which for something that would have took them literally 1 hour.

It's a VW not a lambo! They certainly preyed on the nativity of a young woman……

She will never take it there again……..

So I ordered a pair of safety boots online waited way over the due date, wasted hours on the phone talking to incompetent advisers who just pass you around, with no exact resolution to the issue, I called 12 times in the space of three days just to be told my order wasn't even picked, then got told I couldn't cancel the order over the phone by one advisor. Then I rang back and the other adviser let me cancel it's just a complete shambles of a company! They promise emails will be sent to you only to get no response or help at all! I'll never be using this $#*! show of a business again that's for sure!

Halfords isn't all bad, and I am sure not all of them are dodgy, however the ones I have visited seem to be. I was looking for a set of front wiper blades for my car. They told me £35 for the set and £8 to fit them. This was the price for the Halfords brand, Now I went to their competitor and purchased a set of Bosch Aero 2 blades for £22.50 and they fitted them for free. Most other things can be had elsewhere for a cheaper price. Beware of them saying you need repairs. Get a second opinion. Many times the repair isn't needed and they always overprice the work and parts. I don't bother with them anymore. Also, A friend brought a car in to have two tyres fitted and then have an MOT. Why would Halfords do the MOT first, knowing it was there for two tyres, put the tyres down as an advisory, then fit the tyres? So now, he has advisories for the tyres on his MOT. The tyres should have been fitted first, then the MOT done so there would be no advisories. Dodgy!

Halfords are well known for many good products and services but this review relates solely to their car MOT service
My grandson put his car in for MOT. They failed it, did £300 work, failed it again and said it needed £400 of bodywork. The same thing happened to a friend in Northampton.
Come on Halfords! That's not fair on students!

No show and stolen money
February 10, 2023

Booked a mobile battery fitting for my car. Paid £120. Technician did not show. Phoned Halfords to be told no job order on their system, yet I have an email for proof of order. Then told it was a system malfunction and I need to phone the bank to challenge the payment as they could not see that on their system either. The payment is is on statement! They wasted 3 hours of my time and no refund as of yet! Will NEVER use again

Less than useless
October 25, 2017

I have been dealing with Halfords for the past four years now. I will never go there again after yesterdays debacle. "Again" I was subjected to "I dont know; maybe; not sure; hold on etc". Calls, emails, promises, broken promises etc etc.
To add insult to injury I asked the guys name. John he said and them said "They call me storm". He hadn't hands to wipe his $#*!, didn't help in the least but felt it important to inform me of his nick name. Beggars belief!

Unreliable at best. Ordered wiperblades, available in store for Click and Collect. Add a couple of odds and ends to the order, and pay. Got confirmation message, waited 45 mins. Checked order status, 3 items ready for collection, but, the wiperlades, we'll have those in 6 days time. Tried to cancel via website "unable to collect within timeframe". Can't cancel. Phoned the Customer service. They phoned the store, no answer. Cancelled the whole order. Another two hours of my life I won't get back.

Avoid Halfords garages
December 14, 2023

The worst place ever for mechanics. AVOID. They say you have free MOT with a membership and when you go there, they try create problems and silly things in your car and will charge you a fortune with stupid bills, so you end up paying so much more than if you didn't have a membership or went to a different mechanic, the store staff are ok, but The garage staff is really rude and without experience and they look as if they hate their own jobs for some reason. Go to any other mechanics other than Halfords

Excellent Service
May 17, 2021

Visited the Widnes store today to purchase wiper blades for my daughter's new car. Tyler was so helpful with the purchase and gave me lots of information about the car. It's was a pleasure to do business and many thanks you are a good employee.

Ordered a turbo trainer online during the January sales. Waited two weeks for the trainer to arrive so I could collect it. On the day of arrival I was called and told they couldn't honour the price they had put up on the site. I can't comment about the store itself but I would not buy anything online from them again

I bought this ebike arfter loosing my driving license du to a heart condition which the shop was aware of. It broke down multiple times I took the bike back and they just left in in the shop for 3 weeks to make it look like they was fixing it but they wasn't I rang them and they just gave me the run around in the end I had no choice but to give up du to ill health this problem was causing me the manager Wayne did not help either. Please don't waste your time and money with this company its just not worth it

I purchased a leisure battery from Halfords for a caravan which we store in Devon. The first weekend this Easter we stayed in the caravan and the 12v system went down. We had to call an engineer to check the problem and he found that the new battery was not holding the charge. We had to buy a new one from the caravan engineer. On returning to Cornwall with the old battery (only 3 months old) we took it to Halfords. They do not have a refund policy on batteries. They charged the battery up and said it was at 12.5 v. I asked if they have tried a load on it and their response was they do not have the equipment to do this. They were not interested in the proof we had with the readings etc from the engineer. This total episode has cost us nearly £300 now. Please campers be very aware if you are away from home and nowhere near a Halfords you may find yourselves in a similar situation.

Do not repeat do not get a electric bike from here! The bike care is rubbish even though you pay £100 for the care you can't have because they are fully booked for 10 days! Got a vegeance e bike 2.0 battery the bike care doesn't cover it also be careful if you buy one mine was a refurbished one! Fact of the matter is if your using the bike once a month your fine everyday use it's rubbish value for money! Ben Rice

Tried telephoning my local Halfords store at Brislington Bristol on Thursday. Each time the call was answered by an automated service with options to press for different departments. No matter which option you chose no one would actually answer the call After calling eight or nine times throughout the day and trying the following day i ended up calling customer services. Eventually after a long wait they answered and i explained i was trying to speak to the store to book a test ride on one of their bikes. They said they would put me through but after 10 mins on hold i was just cut off.
I rang customer services again explaining what happened and they took my details and oromised a call back. As you may have guessed this never happened either. I will now be spending my money elsewhere. Halfords are a joke. Just reading the other reviews should be enough to make you avoid this place.

Went to Ilkeston store to buy a couple of fuses as wanted immediately. Price was already expensive compared to online retailers at 2 fuses for £2. To add insult to injury, staff tried to charge me £3.47 for two 10A mini fuses. Staff member not interested that online price different. Tried to put review of experience on Halfords website - Not accepted by moderating team.

I booked my car in for 3 new tyres for Friday 28th May. Before booking I had checked with Halfords chat line that the tyres I purchased would fit my vehicle (I have a transcript of the conversation). When I arrived at the garage I was told that the tyres are commercial and would be illegal if fitted to my car. The chat line assistant had made no mention of this. The person at the garage said he would attempt to book my tyres and fitting at Croydon Halfords. I've just received a phone call from Halfords to say that they cannot fit my tyres until Tuesday at the earliest. This has really badly let me down. We were hoping to travel to visit relatives this weekend but cannot do this now. I wish I spent time making arrangements at a reliable tyres centre. Instead my time has been wasted at Halfords. I'm really appalled.

Avoid Halfords!

Booked an Ebike trial at Southend, with a view to ordering a bike on the same day. Halfords then cancel the booking THREE time's including on the day I was due to pick it up, even after numerous confirmation emails. I hate to think what service they offer after you give them your money!

Electric bike repair
September 16, 2020

I brought my electric bike in September 19. May 20 started to go wrong and say it was hot. I took it back to Halfords July 19th for repair. The motor had to be sent of to manufacture. Which was in Germany. 2 weeks later still not heard from them so I gave them a call. They said it could take a few months. I was shocked and asked if they loan bikes in this situation. No was the reply. So I called customer service and they said the same thing. So September still waiting for my electric bike to be repaired. So I pay so much money for a nice bike. But it takes to long to repair. So I hope they extend my warranty. So anyone looking to buy an electric bike. Please ask about repairs. As I have struggled to get to work with out a bike.
