I've been using Grove since Oct. Of 2020. I see a lot of bad reviews here and have to say I've never had an issue with them. I find their products to be on par with any other non-Grove company. The prices have always been reasonable, and I actually like the auto-ship. I get an email and app notification a week before my ship date, reminding me to make sure my cart has what I need. This has been incredibly helpful because there are times when I don't realize I need something and I can add it real quick, or there are times when I find I have a surplus, and I just swipe to push it to the next shipment.
As far as them adding products to the cart without my consent, I will say that the first purchase I made was everything I put in the cart. The second order (aka the FIRST auto ship order), there were things added, but I believe it was because I was brand new and they were making suggestions. I understand how that is definitely not the best way way to "make suggestions", but I guess it didn't bother me because I just removed them. My mom recently signed up for Grove as well, and she had the same thing happen. However, after that initial time, it's never happened since. Once you have your set monthly subscriptions, they don't try to "be helpful" again, that I know of.
If your order is at least $35 on your auto ship, you get to choose a free gift. If you order $55, you can choose between the $35 free gift, or another gift. If you spend over $99, you get another option, and you can choose one of the three.
As far as the free gifts go, I recently had an order ship, and maybe a week later I went to the app and checked my next order because I needed to add something. I selected my gift, however, by the time that next order shipped, I didn't get a free gift because they had changed the gifts and I hadn't selected one of the new ones. The default option when the gifts change, is "no gift", so it's always important to check your cart as soon as you get that notification that it will ship soon.
Because I can understand how the automatic adding of products to your first autoship could easily be missed and someone ends up paying far more than they intended, and because you can miss your free gift if your timing isn't right, I give the company 4 stars. But I have to say, I've never been upset about their products. I still HIGHLY recommend them. Since the auto adding of items on your first shipment seems to be the biggest culprit in their bad reviews, I think if they stopped doing that, they would get much better ratings.
I canceled my membership ship a year ago because they were picking randoms items & charging my card for it. They told me I wouldn't be able to make another account after deleting I said okay cool. Here we are a year later & my card is being charged AGAIN for items I didn't purchase. I am absolutely pissed especially considering the fact that I canceled my membership!
I like the idea behind Grove but at times I just feel like a number not a customer. They offer free trial items when you order a certain amount, which I do and NEVER get the freebie. Definitely disappointing! Shipping takes forever and you can't get ahold of anyone. It is time to up their game as there are other options
The company add products we purchased before on the order form and we have to delete a bunch of items to order what we just need. Not sure if the intention is to be helpful but the pre-deletion order is somewhere like $180 and what we end up ordering is around $70 average. Rather start with an empty cart.
I had a few items in a order that were "Grove" branded products that were defective almost immediately upon their initial use. The only way you can reach this company with any issue is by email. I sent three of these emails over the course of several months and I received zero response. I used to purchase 90% of my household cleaning products from this brand and now have since halted any further purchases. Granted plenty of items I purchased were completely fine but since it's not my responsibility to eat the cost of their poorly designed or poorly manufactured products, I expected in the least the item to be replaced. Heck, a "I'm sorry" email would of been better then what they did to resolve the issue, which is absolutely nothing. Buyer beware. Nothing they sell is so exclusive that you couldn't get somewhere else or at least a very comparable version.
Their toilet tissue was fantastic! Their kleenex was the best I have ever used. I only wish I could have tried Their other products, but they kept pushing the same products on me every month and I didn't want them because I didn't like them for one, two I preferred other products, three there was other products I wanted to try and four, I had no clue it was some kind of a subscription where they send you the same thing every month. I already had what they were trying to send me again. I hadn't even used it. The second month they allowed me to customize my order, the month after that the same, but then they told me I couldn't do it. Then they told me I had to oder what they were sending me. I couldn't choose my order unless it was additional items. Well as far as I was concerned they could, well. Anyway, it's been almost a year and I haven't even heard from these people and then I get a charge on my bill for 21.19 from the GROVE. Nothing in my e-mails from them telling me about this or anything. My advice is stay far, far away from this company.
DOes Grove have customer service people? Cant find a phone number anywhere! What is wrong w companies anymore, no one wants to get on the phone to answer questions or resolve issues! Horrible!
Was a fan of them early on, but the whole scheduled automatic shipments is really shady and confusing. Its very hard to tell what you're actually getting in an order, and if you're signing up for a one time order or subscription.
Since Grove went public and now there is no way to reach customer service after business hours EST. The text number doesn't work either. My box arrived damaged and soaked with an unsecured bleach based product which damaged not only the merchandise, but my clothing as well. After years of monthly orders, I am cancelling.
I tried Grove because I am looking for a one-stop place for environmentally friendly cleaning and personal hygiene products. The products are expensive (more expensive than in other places). The freebies the throw in level it out to where the overall cost equals or is slightly less than in other places. I was happy. Placed my order. I noticed when the order confirmation was emailed that 2/3 of the freebies in the cart were not included. I thought it might be a mistake. Went back to look at my order online... it simply said it is being packaged. It did not list the products. The products with most of the freebies missing arrived. If you don't want to give out "free stuff" (that really is not free in the first place bc the cost is folded into higher prices), that is ok. Just don't scam customers by saying you will send items that you won't. Also, in the order history, include the actual order (ALL items that were in the cart), not just an order process status. Not ordering here again.
Had an order that never showed up because lost in USPS. Grove said they will reship and the shipment is still sitting at "waiting for USPS to pickup" it has been 21 days. Customer service says I have to wait 24 hours for supervisor to respond? I asked what am I waiting a response on, catch you just ship me the producet that I paid for almost a month ago. She says no. I ask her if there is anyway to get ahold of a supervisor now instead of waiting 24 hours (already been waiting 21 days for my product) and they go completely silent and ignore the chats.
The products I received have been wonderful but automatically making them a subscription is misleading. Automatically putting things in a cart that are free but then turn into a subscription is misleading. I take full responsibility for not reading the fine print but to be fair it is not that clear. Why do concentrate cleaners need to be a monthly subscription? I don't know anyone that would go through that much cleaner in a month. It's a shame because I would have continued to be a customer but this is a turn off.
I ordered something when it all first came out. I later cancelled my subscription and a year after canceling I am still being charged and received nothing in the mail, I have not been on their website, I have no made any order and I have had to disputed claims with my bank, PayPal, and the company yet still being charged. I have tried to reach out to the company SEVERAL times via phone, email, live chat, etc and no one has gotten back to me! STAY AWAY FROM THEM!
I just now tried to use their website. I tapped on 1 item then back arrowed. It put 13 items in my cart! I managed to X out of 7 items but it kept saying 6 items were still in my cart so I decided maybe if I go to check out I can delete the rest. Nope. It said I had a zero balance but. You guessed it. I still have 6 items in my cart. SOOO then I tried to go back to the page to the section I wanted "pets" and it wouldn't open. I'm SOOO glad all that happened cuz it made me come here to read reviews. Most of which are bad and they only have a 2.64 rating out 5 indicating that most people aren't happy with them, customer service, billing, shipping etc. I'm never going to their website again and will be blocking them when they send me emails I stupidly signed up for. My suggestion to them is clean up your act if you REALLY care about the environment the way you claim too, and Instead of making people sign up for auto ship "I NEVER do that btw cuz its impossible to get companies to stop without a fight & I always get over charged" just offer the free gifts after a customer has purchased a certain dollar amount of products from you and make sure whoevers handling your orders is legit not some cutthroat outfit from China or wherever. And make sure you have live representatives to help people, you'll be creating jobs.
Tried to edit my cart, as they showed 18 items. I only wanted 4/5. Trying to adjust it caused a double order being placed. There is apparently no live people to talk to, and trying to find out where to send concerns/complaints is hard to do. Many of the spray bottles do not work, and the paper products are poor quality.
Honestly I don't know what the fuss is about on here. And why there's so many negative reviews. Seems like a lot of customer error.
Yes there's a 20 dollar annual fee that you will see if you explore your profile settings like you should be doing anyways. But let's be honest. Normal shipping without that fee is 4.99+ and if you are like me who orders monthly to ever 2 months or so, your saving 10-20+ dollars a year just on shipping. Plus they send you free items with every purchase of orders of like 35 or more. And the more you spend the more expensive your gift is. And I dont know about you but if you are a clean freak and buy what you need you will likely spend that on cleaning products every 2 months anyways. And all the free SAMPLES they give! I'm IN LOVE. I've ordered twice but already have gotten over 50 dollars in freebies so why anyone is complaining about a measly 20 dollar annual fee when you will get, if not A 100 to hundreds worth of free samples and products, I have no idea.
Secondly, yes they set the preferences of what you might order next month and if you don't cancel that, they ship it. But I find it helpful and as if they are kindly setting you up based on what you buy! All you have to do is change it or delete the items after you purchase and hit unsubscribe item so they don't ship it. It's not hard to do either. I didn't receive hidden fees. I didn't get unwanted items because I clicked un subscribe to all of those options. And then a month later when I needed what I wanted, I got it with in 2 Business days. TWO DAYS! Each order, They are fast! Who's complaining about slow shipping? Let me talk to you. This is some quality delivery.
Lastly, each product I've gotten has been quality products, store prices or cheaper, the packaging is beautiful and the sents of the products make my house smell heavenly. And importantly, they clean great! I don't feel like I'm breathing in bleach or toxic poisons like most cleaners. Plus with gas being so freaking high, i don't have to waste my time or money driving 7 miles to the nearest grocery store. It's conveniently shipped to me with sweet messages hand written by Grove and waiting for me when I get home from work.
So again you just have to explore the app and use that beautiful brain you were given so you can figure out the app. There's no hidden fees, there's no random orders, the products are great and you are in control you just have figure that out. Because I don't see a reason to complain or leave anything but a glowing review.
I had cancelled my subscription and months later I get hit with another fee. Do no sign up for this service because they will continue charging you even once you have gone through and cancelled everything.
I really am disgusted by their entire mission to rope people into buying and buying and buying. Buying is consuming. Consuming without boundaries leads to over-consumption. This is the opposite of being good to the planet. And tricking (yes... I was totally tricked by their "auto-subscription") you to buy this so you get this and then discovering that you are now subscribed to not just ONE subscription, but also the "VIP" level of quarterly payments. This VIP totally sucks people into trying to buy enough stuff to justify their membership fees.
But what is really troubling is how hard it is to get clear of the whole site. CANCELLATION should be a single button somewhere on a site. Period.
I want them to CANCEL my "account". Remove me from their database. I told them to send me ONE final email confirming I will never have their ads in my inbox again. EVER. Hope that will happen.
Although I like the chemical free products, most of which work well, they are still packaged in plastic and other non bio degradable products. I think all the companies in this group could do better and until that happens I will shop elsewhere.
