Genuine People

I, like so many here, trusted the high end look of the website. Since the prices weren't dirt cheap and the site wasn't fraught with grammatical errors, I figured the fact that they are affiliated with Shang Hai wasn't a big deal especially since they also have a presence in California. The shoes I purchased were so cheaply made. Exposed surfaces with glue, the buckle was sewn differently from one shoe to the other. I swear I could've purchased this shoe for 20$ instead of 198$... I'm so pissed. I could've used that money on a legitimate product. I would qualify for an exchange but God only knows what the quality of the other products are. Don't do it.

I bought 2 sweaters on sale (at $90-100 range) because the material description say wool-acrylic-mohair blend. I was suspicious of sizing so I chose the oversized style. Took 3 weeks for them to arrive, which I expected as they came from China.

The sweaters were warm, but definitely not as stylish as the photos. They were also HORRIBLY itchy and smelled SUPER WEIRD (like gasoline!). The itchiness went away after I soaked them for 3 times. For the smell, I had to use up a bottle of cheap vodka to neutralize, then sprayed them with perfume over and over again until the sweeter scent stuck.

I bought a knit set and knit sweater with extra 40% off, which is cheaper than other brands. The design looks lux. The knit material keep you warm but it is not really soft. I think it might be itchy to some. I would give 5 stars for the value.

However, I would give 1 stars for the shipping and customer service. My order took more than a half month to be deleveried. Moreover, they havent replied my email for a week. Aditionally, discounted clothes are not refundable.

Beware to decide your size because their clothes are smaller than other brands, and it takes about 7$ to return. If you want to exchange, the only way is to return then process a new order, which might miss promotion.

I ordered a purse. Before I ordered, I read their "About" page, and it said they're in California. I'm in California, so I felt safe ordering. Imagine my surprise when I received a notification that my handbag was being shipped from Hong Kong. It probably took 2 weeks to receive, so shipping wasn't too bad, but that does present a problem for returns. Returns would be to Hong Kong instead of California. Also, the handbag looks CHEAP. It says it's leather, so I guess it is, but the leather is thin and fairly flimsy. I've purchased much nicer handbags from Yoox for less. Never again! They shouldn't say "Genuine People," because their website makes it look like they are a higher quality company than they actually are.

I ordered the black round leather bag with shoulder strap and a white dress. I love the bag but I realized that in the picture on the website it has a silver zipper and hardware and it zips in the middle. The one I received has a GOLD zipper and it opens differently than the one shown. It opens like the silver metallic round purse that is on the site. I really love the bag and am going to keep it despite not being a gold person.

The white chiffon dress is made strangely... the seam is in the middle from instead of the back. Also the neck tie that it came with looks nothing like it does in the picture. They look like little flags. I want to return the dress but seeing as I bought it on sale and there is a restocking fee and I can only get store credit, I am on the fence.

I wouldn't order from them again because the clothes seems cheaply made and you might not get what you ordered.

Genuine People ships very slow. Clothing quality varies, I bought a $400 dollar coat and the material was very unflattering-lots of static, itchy feeling.

And most important- Customer service is REALLY BAD! It takes forever for them to reply, saying things that do not follow up. They will not refund if you buy discounted clothes- and most of their clothes are discounted. You have to write to them again and again begging for a refund, and they will only refund credits. I bought second time buy using credits and cash, they will not refund any store credits or to my original payment. I have been emailing them for more than two months. Very DISAPPOINTED service, a waste of my money, energy, and time. WILL NOT SPEND ANY MORE on this site. Will call everyday if not refunded.

I was a little nervous because I read a few bad reviews but I am so happy with my experience with Genuine People! My order was quickly received and I couldn't be happier with the pieces I got! It's hard for me to find clothes that fit into my style, body and budget. I prefer high end style but with a little edge and more gender neutral appeal but I am "ballin on a budget" so it's always a little tricky. I bought a couple really cool staples and the fit and quality are both commendable!

I see a lot of negative reviews below about customer service, but I had a very pleasant/prompt interaction with an employee. Perhaps they've stepped it up since they just started out.

I discovered genuine people through Spring and was delighted with their styles of clothing and their website's design. But now, if I could give them 0 stars, I would. It took 6 days for them to process my order at which time I received an email explaining how the one item I purchased sold out in the meantime. Their recommendations for substitutes did not leave me wanting. It's been 15 business days and I still haven't received my purchase which I paid $150 for. ( It was a 5-10 day shipping time frame and they didn't ship the items for 4 whole business days) They keep saying just give it time and the USPS has it in their possession. I am not sure what bottom of the barrel arrangement they have with USPS, but it hasn't come in 15 days and I'm currently out that money since their policy states they are not responsible for shipping mishaps. USPS cannot tell me where the package is even if I wanted to pick it up from one of their facilities. My last hope is to file loss with my credit card company and hopefully get reimbursed through them. I was consoled with a $25 store credit, which essentially will do me no good if I have no hope of receiving the items I purchased. Why would I EVER shop at a place that screws me over $150? P.S. This was graduation money I used. Way to go me!

I found this site through an instagram ad, but I regret giving in and making a purchase. I was suspicious of this site as soon as I saw that they ship from China, but it looked legitimate enough to be safe, so I made a purchase anyway. The item looked as pictured, but literally all the buttons came unstitched when I tried the item on (and I definitely didn't overstretch it or anything). It was bizarre, I'm not sure how no one in quality control caught that -- or perhaps there is no quality control. I emailed immediately and explained the situation, and they were only able to offer me store credit in exchange for the bad item. As I'm looking for something to use the store credit on, the site looks more and more sketchy to me. They have exact knock offs of items from other retailers (i. E. Free People trapeze slip -- also the fact that they're called "Genuine People" is weird), which I would think wouldn't be allowed, but perhaps it hasn't been caught yet. The lack of reviews for items is a red flag as well. Shipping is slow, as mentioned by others, but I wouldn't mind this if the items were of high quality. Overall, I wouldn't bother with this site, better safe than sorry.

I needed an blue denim overall since I am pregnant and I thought it was a cute maternity outfit for my photoshooting. I loved it! So cute and comfortable. Highly recommended!

I would avoid ordering from this company as the other reviews have stated- wish I had seen these sooner. I had to contact them twice as the "processing" took double the time quoted on my order confirmation: "Thank you so much for your order! One of us will get your items boxed up and shipped in the next 1-3 Working Days. Once it ships, you will receive a second email with your shipping details"- for reference, none the statements/promises made in the aforementioned quote were fulfilled, accurate or honest. I took multiple attempts to even get a response. Ironic, considering it says their customer service is available to help from 9-6 PST. It was not until I told them I would be flagging the charges via my bank, that I heard back at all and was told "good news! You're item has been shipped". No explanation for the time lag. I still have not received my product and am skeptical that it will arrive in the now extremely pushed back delivery window. Its a domestic shipment so the fact that I have received international items in less time is beyond sketchy and extremely disappointing given the price-point of their products and labels they carry. It is quite clear that they never bothered to even prep the order or respond until I offered to stop payment. Mind you I had already been charged on day 1 of my order being placed. The shipping label literally was not even created until yesterday. Genuine People did nothing to remedy the situation and feels they need to supply no explanation or communication to their patrons. For high end clothing or just general customer respect, I would look to alternative retailers.
