I bought the $. 99 sim but could not make or receive calls about half the time (although the data worked well). A few days after I downgraded to the free plan (and put a different company's sim into my phone) sure enough, I saw a $5 charge on my card. I don't remember seeing this mentioned anywhere in the contract (but perhaps it was in the fine print), and hopefully it's a one-time deal. Since the phone service stinks and I don't plan to use their sim again, I plan to contact my bank to block them in the future. Remember the adage: "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is."? I don't mind paying for phone service, but to be given the impression that a service is free, only to sneak in hidden fees, is dishonest. Fortunately it was only 5 bucks, but it looks like Freedom pop is playing the math game and counting on uninformed customers (suckers) to make their money. Stay away from them!
AVOID Freedompop AS HELL! Misleading advertising & malicious charges!
I ordered ONE sim card from them, and there were one phone line with another so called "data" without number charge me another $32.98. More over, when I close this error account. It charge me another $10!
FreedomPop refuse to refund me a penny!
They called it "free" service but you still have to pay $10. And yes, you will never get that $10 back.
Don't even mention the suck coverage. Hell.
AVOID Freedompop AS HELL!
I called Freedompop and was assured that they had service in my zip code. I purchased a phone and had absolutely zero service on the device. I had numerous emails and calls to their customer service personnel and simply got nowhere. When speaking to customer service staff, it was obvious that none of them spoke English fluently. Emailing them always resulted in a 4 to 5 day wait until a response was sent and then, the response did nothing to address the problem. I have had many cell phones over the years and have had numerous providers, Freedompop is by far the worst. If you need service, go elsewhere.
Freedompop, even if you are on the so-called "free" plan, will charge you out of the blue, seemingly randomly. Be sure to use a credit card that sends you alert when someone charges you. The best (really, the only) way to reliably contact Freedompop "customer service" is via twitter. Attempting to contact them via everything else is just an exercise in futility.
FreedomPop is loaded with hidden charges - even if your billing shows $0 due you may still be charged. They have a variety of hidden "services" that are also billed but aren't considered part of your 'Plan' since they fall under services. Ignore the next payment amount due on their home page and make sure you look at ALL their pages to see what other charges you will incur. It takes a lot of work to get their "free" service to be free. Also note that once you navigate through their maze of hidden charges and get to actually not paying them anything, they will throttle your speed.
I have called the company several times at different times of the day and have had to wait at least 45minutes to a 1hour on hold. I also had to wait 24-48hours to speak to someone for escalating my call for help. Which mint I had to call back & wait on hold again.
The service in the Seattle area barely works on a good day even though the "map" shows that it is. I purchased the Groupon offered by Freedompop to purchase a phone for their service. We tried it for 3 days the service doesn't work in our area. I requested my refund. Groupon said it comes from Freedompop. Freedompop refuses to give a refund & will just exchange the phone. That would be great if it worked in this area. The phone though a Sprint phone can be used by other carrier, but Freedompop will not Fully Release it allowing it to be reprogrammed/activated by another carrier.
I've been a freedompop customer for 2 years. Nobody else can match their absolutely free world wide Cell phone service. If yu are planning a trip abroad invest in a freedompop sim card, you will not regret it!
I am not saying that you should never use this service... what I'm saying is that you pay $20/mo... and you'll get what you are putting into it. If all you can afford is what they can provide for cell service then subscribe but don't expect their customer service to do anything. Expect to spend hours on the phone, only to get somebody who will hang up on you, or just transfer you. I work in a call center for a bank, so I know how the game works.
I have been using Fp for many months without problems. Their connection is really good and also their service too. What's more, they gibe you free data and voice which is super cool! I love this company
Freedompop is the way forward in Telecommunications. It's great is you are a heavy or light user. You can get what you want at an affordable price or free. Sign up and you won't be disappointed. The support is amazing. Whether it be on social media or by phone. These people are seriously excellent. Need I say more? Nope. They are THE best.
This company has been taking of $7.99 from my account fraudulently after i signed up to their free monthly service. Don't become a victim. I had the 39 days trial then downgraded to the free service. They deducted $7.99 X 2 from my account within one month. Reaching them has been impossible. However, they are available to new customers. Avoid this scam if you can!
FreedomPop is the perfect solution for those who are looking for 4G wireless service for free or on a budget. The reviews online are mixed due to the the limited customer service and the hassle of downgrading all the trial plans and services. So it's worth mentioning that FreedomPop supports on Facebook and Twitter are great. ******* MB of free data every month suits fairly well for the needs of browsing the Internet, checking your emails, and using most social media sites. Plus, FreedomPop offers unlimited free calling and texting between FreedomPop users and does not charge additional fees for international calls.
Nightmare, government should involve to investigate this company
They sell you sim card and charge you hidden fees, a lot, i mean a lot, and suddenly remove your service without any reason, you have no way to get money back, be aware
Our daughter gave us her old i-Phone 5s that was coded for Sprint. We wanted to port over our T-Mobile number to use on the Freedom Pop service. After four days of phone calls and e-mails it seemed no one we talked to or who wrote to us had a clue about how to do this. We were charged a total of $109.97, $9.99 of which was promptly refunded. We were sent a package of unknown contents (opened it to see but there were 2 boxes of indeterminate contents which we left unopened and the outer shipping box re-sealed). Disappointed, dismayed and disgusted, we cancelled everything and got an e-mail acknowledging the cancellation. I am now writing a postal letter to the company requesting a full refund for services not rendered.
After service was established on November 2,2016 under the 100% free service they assured me I was participating in was actually a 72 hour frenzy on my credit card that totaled 88$ and unable to get my refund for something never received or authorized, be aware; of thier piggyback billing system they have implemented; it eats the funds to the bare bone unknown pending charges that haunt you.
Impossible to cancel. They keep charging your account even after you've put in a cancellation request. They have no customer service or billing department to talk with regarding booking issues. I've left messages with their Sales and Technical Support, but never got a call back. The micro card they mailed me wouldn't even for in my Moto-X cell phone. Worst. Customer. Service. Ever!
I signed up for a free account because I wanted to try it out but they charged me a "Top Off" credit without my consent! This was before I even started using it. I knew from there it was a bogus service designed to rope people in but make it hard to leave and charge erroneous fees in a shoot first ask questions later type of deal. Now I'm trying to cancel my account and I already tried on multiple devices but it won't let me. When I click on the button, it does nothing. Super shady! Stay away. Sprint has a free 1 year offer that I might try, otherwise I'll stick to MintSIM for $15/mo.
I was originally a bit scared with the all the negative reviews but I bit the bullet and ordered this product with the lightening deal sale. So far it has been working quite well in areas where 4G coverage is available. You can also check to see if your area is covered by doing a Google search on "Freedompop coverage map".
As some other reviewers have also shared, we would need to be careful with setting up the billing option in order to avoid charges due to over-usage. This could be done by going to the billing setting and disabling the automatic top-up option. And also make sure that the device has WEP password enabled so that other unauthorized users cannot get to it.
First, the hotspot I purchased for $20 didn't get any service at our vacation spot (even though the map says there should be service). So I downgraded to the free 500MB well before the trial ended. Nope, to downgrade they say they need to have $5 in my account. Ok, fine. I'm out $25. Nope, now they take $9.99 out because I also had a free trial of "premier" service that ended, and then they automatically charge me. Apparently this is separate from the data plan. Oh yeah, and to downgrade or cancel, they make the links incredibly small and hard to find. I had to google search to find the link they buried in many pages. Then it asks you like 5 times if you're sure you want to downgrade. This is a scam/fraud company with unethical business tactics.
I had a great experience, they absolutely went out of thier way to help me. I was having trouble porting my number but they worked with me and made it work. It took a little time but it's to be expected in some cases. This is a great new company and this IS worth it, no contracts, no bs just good service.
Answer: I know of three telephone #s for "Freedompop": 800-228-9207 888-743-8107 855-703-5785 If you can't reach a representative at any of these #s (I very recently had success with 888-743-8107 and they helped me with my billing issue), GO TO FREEDOMPOP.COM AND LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT (hope you remember your password!). THEN, CLICK ON (or, just hover over) "MY ACCOUNT" ATOP PAGE From its drop-down list, THEN CHOOSE "ACCOUNT SETTINGS" At the bottom of that page, you should see "DEACTIVATE ACCOUNT." (Click on it and follow subsequent instructions)
Answer: Because they rip you of with small amounts (on a monthly basis), so many don't realize, once you do it's too late, and for the last charge you dispute it, but you don't care wasting time to report this... And those who are really on top and make sure not to be overbilled, they make sure to tell you that they are selling all their to a new carrier, so they get rid of you!
Answer: No you cant, they are garbage, not worth wasting your time on
Answer: Get away from these people soon as possible! You are going to have to change your credit card soon.

We apologize if this was your experience, Stone R. We do our best to be as transparent as possible with any potential charges by disclosing them prior to checkout and reiterated them in a follow-up confirmation email. You can also check any associated charges by logging into my.freedompop.com. We certainly will not throttle you for not being on a paid plan.
